Kingdom Hearts 2 has a variety of Disney and Original Worlds in the Kingdom Hearts Universe. Players can explore familiar terrain from their favorite Disney films and interact with their inhabitants. In Kingdom Hearts 2, there are a total of 14 worlds that you can explore ( not including “Dive to the Heart, and Destiny Islands”). You can view all worlds below and a brief synopsis of each one:

100 Acre Wood

Based on “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” (1977), The 100 Acre Wood is an optional world that isn’t needed to progress the storyline. Upon visiting the world, Sora is able to encounter familiar characters such as Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Tiger, Eeyore, Owl, and Roo. Since this world is not needed to progress the story of Kingdom Hearts, it is used to primarily play mini-games. Players have the option of visiting various houses of these characters who each have their own mini-game such as Veggie Panic, Balloon Glider, Tiger’s Jump-A-Thon and more.

Agrabah

From Walt Disney’s Aladdin (1992) and its sequel The Return of Jafar (1994), Agrabah makes a third appearance in Kingdom Hearts 2. It is one of several worlds visited throughout Kingdom Hearts. Sora teams up with Aladdin, Abu, the magic carpet, and Genie here to take on the nefarious royal confidant Jafar and his minion, the parrot Iago, to rescue Agrabah’s princess, Jasmine. Journeys here will bring Sora through the streets and back alleys of the town. A venture out into the desert beyond the town gate will bring Sora into the depths, bounties and perils of the Cave of Wonders.

Atlantica

This sub-aquatic world is based on Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Sora goes under the sea to join Ariel, Sebastian, and Flounder. Unlike how Kingdom Hearts 1 allowed Atlantic to be an explorable world, it was completely redesigned as something completely different in Kingdom Hearts 2. In Kinbdom Hearts 2, Atlantica is another optional world much like 100 Acre Wood. It is primarily used to play many games, more specifically music-related mini-games. Players can use Sora to sing with Ariel to classic songs from “The Little Mermaid” soundtrack

Beast’s Castle

From Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (1991), Beast’s Castle is a large castle or manor belonging to a furious Beast, who was cursed by an enchantress for his arrogance. Characters from this world include Belle, a Princess of Hearts, who contain no darkness within her heart, the Beast, Cogsworth, Lumiere, and more. Players are able to traverse the Beast’s Castle while battling various heartless and players must stop and defeat Organization XIII member, Xaldin, from turning the Beast into a heartless and nobody. Beast’s Castle has a number of wings and a castle courtyard.

Destiny Island

An original world to the Kingdom Hearts games, Destiny Islands is where the story of Sora, Riku and Kairi begins in the series’ first installment. It is also home to Tidus and Wakka (of Final Fantasy X fames) and Selphie (from Final Fantasy VIII). The Destiny Islands is not a playable world in Kingdom Hearts 2. It is used to display cutscenes of Kairi. Kairi was left on Destiny Islands during the conclusion of Kingdom Hearts 1. She waits on Destiny Islands for her friends to return. An unexpected visitor appears to Kairi on Destiny Islands and I doubt that he is friendly.

Disney Castle

Disney Castle is not based on any particular Disney movie, so it is an original world. Disney Castle houses some of the most iconic Disney Characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, and more. Other characters come from this world such as Chip & Dale and Pete. Disney Castle is a place where royalty stays such as King Mickey and Queen Minnie. The castle also houses Royal Guards which Goofy is the captain of and Sorcerers which is Donald’s title there. Disney Castle also contains the Cornerstone of Light which prevents Disney Castle from falling to darkness.

Halloween Town

Halloween Town is based on Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). Sora will be able to ally with Jack Skellington and meet characters such as Sally, Dr. Finkelstein, The Mayor, and Zero. Halloween Town also serves the purpose of harboring another world called Christmas Town, where Santa Claus is the ruler. Sora must risk his life to seal the Keyhole underneath the Oogie Boogie’s Manor, which is owned by the nefarious Oogie Boogie, but before you are able to get to him. You must be able to defeat his minions, Lock, Shock, and Barrel.

Hollow Bastion

Hollow Bastion is making a return as an original world. Hollow Bastion contains a massive castle that used to belong to Ansem the Wise and his six apprentices. Hollow Bastion also contains a portal to Space Paranoids. Hollow Bastion, albeit left in ruin at the time of the first game, was once the home to most of the Final Fantasy characters met throughout the Kingdom Hearts series. Other characters encountered on this world in Kingdom Hearts include Merlin, who is holding onto a peculiar book that leads to Winnie the Pooh’s world, The Hundred Acre Woods.

Olympus Coliseum

Olympus Coliseum is a world based on “Hercules” (1997). Olympus Coliseum is not actually featured in the film, but it’s rather a game creation. On the other hand, Hade’s Underworld is in fact part of the film. In Olympus Coliseum, Sora and company team up with Hercules and compete in various tournaments. Various characters are also seen in this world such as Phil and Hades. Olympus Coliseum also usually introduces Final Fantasy characters into Kingdom Hearts. Here, you’ll find Auron from Final Fantasy X. Also, stop Demyx from causing any additional trouble.

Port Royal

Based on Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Port Royal is one of the few worlds based on a live-action film. Sora is accompanied by the notorious Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann, and Will Turner. Players are able to explore Isla de Muerta, which means Island of Death in Spanish. Various pirates on the vessel, The Black Pearl, have been cursed for stealing Aztec gold. They seek to collect all 882 cursed gold coins and sacrifice Elizabeth Swann in order rid themselves of the curse. Defeat Barbossa and his pirate crew to save Elizabeth from danger.

Pride Lands

From Walt Disney’s Lion King (1994), Sora and company are transformed into animals (Donald and Goofy are transformed into different animals) and venture through the lions’ Pride Lands. Simba, Nala, Timon, Pumbaa, and Rafi, all make an appearance in this world. Players are actually challenged by the hyenas, Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed as well as their leader, Scar. Scar is Simba’s uncle and also the antagonist of the Pride Land. Scar seeks to control the Pride Land and remove Simba has its leader. Scar eventually becomes consumed by his own darkness and becomes a heartless.

Radiant Garden

Radiant Garden is an original world. Radiant Garden is the actual name of Hollow Bastion before the Heartless attacked and the denizen forgot its name. Sora eventually recovers the name of Hollow Bastion and restores it to its former glory. Radiant Garden was also the previous home world of Ansem the Wise and his six apprentices. They conducted experiments of the heart in Radiant Garden’s large castle. They eventually succeeded in their experiments to replicate the Heartless process and branded and created those creatures with a machine thus the artificial Heartless were born, Emblem Heartless.

Space Paranoids

Based on Disney’s Tron (1982), Sora, Donald, and Goofy are accidentally transported into Space Paranoids by Donald. The world is named after the video game created by Kevin Flynn in the movie. Space Paranoids is a world of computer programs and data. Sora and company are accompanied by Tron and are trying to stop Sark and the Master Control Program (MCP). Originally, Sora was wanted to use Ansem the Wise’s computer to learn more about Organization XIII, but ended up transported into the computer. Sora, Donald, and Goofy’s appearances are also changed to camouflage into the world’s surroundings.

The Land of Dragons

Based on Disney’s Mulan (1998), The Land of Dragons is based during the Han dynasty in China. Players will be able to reunite with an old summon, Mushu, Mulan, the Emperor and Li Shang. There are various areas of The Land of Dragons such as the Encampment, which is a training ground and sleeping quarters of China’s army, the Palace, which houses the Emperor of China, and more. Sora must be on the look for Heartless who plague the land. Rapid Thrusters are everywhere and you must defeat the Storm Rider heading for Imperial City. Don’t forget that Shan Yu is also out there.

The World That Never Was

The World That Never Was is an original world in Kingdom Hearts 2. It is the closest world to the Realm of Darkness. Heartless and nobodies are in an abundance here, possibly so, than most worlds. The World That Never Was is also the base of operations for Organization XIII. They have claim this world as their own. The world is modern city-like in structure with large buildings. The most memorable locations are Memory Skyscraper, which the monitor on the building flashes memories of those nearby, and The Castle That Never Was that houses Organization XiII.

Twilight Town

Twilight Town is an original world in Kingdom Hearts 2. It replaces Destiny Islands as an introductory world to the game, giving the player opportunity to improve their familiarity with the game’s controls, as well as stocking up on useful items (such as Potions for healing). Twilight Town has a shopping district, a sandlot, where the denizens of Twilight Town hold their annual Struggle Tournament, and the Clock Tower, where Hayner, Pence, Olette, and Roxas go to eat their sea salt ice cream. Twilight Town has various secrets such as the Old Mansion and the Seven Wonders.
