While speaking to Tidus, Selphie and Wakka during your "Awakening" the options of "Dawn, Midday and Dusk" alters how your exp system works for you to level up.
Dawn: Less exp needed til level 40 but more exp needed after level 40
Midday: Balanced Exp needed for level ups
Dusk: More exp needed til level 40 but less needed after level 40.
