The New Dawn 5: Shadows Awaken

Melody looked up at the white haired man.
"How do you do sir?" she asked with a curtsy.
"Who could this be?" Riku asked with a smile.
"I'm Melody, sir. I'm...". She was going to say boyfriend but she didn't know this person enough. "Kiba's....uhh..."
Riku grinned as he saw Melody blush.
"You're just like your father, Kiba" he told him, laughing.
He walked away and Melody blushed deeper red, looking at the ocean.

Calder smiled and laid in the sand.
"We'll never forget what Voltair and Symm did...never"

 

"Everything is temporary. Some things just last longer than others. Once their time is up, things then evolve. Go on to a new temporary stage and wait until it evolves again. Funny.... That is actually an alchemist's dream. To constantly evolve something until it becomes perfect. Once it becomes perfect.... Well I suppose it then waits. Waits for everything else to become perfect too."

 

Melody smiled and flicked her hair back behind her ear.
She looked at Kiba's red face.
"So I'm guessing your father was quite the lady's man?" she said. Afterwards, she turned away in embaressment. She was very shy and she'd never say something like that usually. She gave a nervous giggle, wanting to flick her hair back.

Calder grinned.
"I don't know what we're gonna do...maybe going to the dance for the first time?"

 

"I'm actually there right now. I can't leave it yet. This me you're looking at. It is just a spectral form I created to interact with the outer world." Voltair told her. "And everything is temporary. Our love is a good example. It is what it is right now. But it will grow and grow, becoming something greater than it was before." Voltair took a long sigh. "But as for my temporary residence here in the dark.... I've got a long time. Hundreds of years perhaps. All I know is my time will last longer than Siah's life, Calder's life, their children's lives, their children's lives, and maybe even their children's lives."

"So, he's dead. The stubborn bastard. . ." Vale muttered, feeling the cool ocean breeze blow against him. "Even after death, he still couldn't resist having the last word."

"Ya don't need to be mad attim for that! What you might have to be mad about is the-" Kalia started, but was cut off by Ayrie. "Disbandment. Blade of the East is the kids' now, not ours. He passed it not onto an heir, but a friend. . ."

"Then let us make a storage for these weapons of ours. Maybe somebody else will find good use in a future generation." Vale replied. The other two nodded, Ayrie kicking up sand in a perfect rectangle over the water - and moments before it touched, a surge of flame went over and turned the sand to glass. And then, they began to work.

Hours later, the work was finished. The group came out of a hole in the ground, minus weapons, tired and dirty. But they smiled at one another, and with a nod they all departed - the hole sealing itself with a slab of rock, which was covered moments later by sand. It was as if the entrance was never there.

The sunset glimmered into the water and pierced the waves, shining into the deep. Beneath the waves, a strange circular structure made of volcanic rock and other stone with a glass dome for a roof lay, enshrining four pedestals. A glimmer came within from one of them, a flame glowing while a staff floated above it. In another, two small chakrams hung by a delicate and beautiful ice sculpture, and the same with a hammer but with rock. The fourth pedestal lay empty, a hollow wind echoing. And so they would lay, for generations and generations. . .


*Note: They are on Destiny Islands, but away from the others. Thus, they follow a different time schedule.

 

"Doesn't everybody argue with the people they love? I kinda figured it was part of a relationship." Voltair said. "But I suppose it doesn't really matter. You're alive, and that is the important part. We've won. You needn't worry anymore." He looked around. Everything was calm. Serene. The world finally achieved the peace everybody desired.

 

"You're not alone. I'm not lost. And home is where the heart is. So need we worry? So yes, we did win. I may have sacrificed everything, but the price is worth it. Being with you is great. But keeping you save is even better. So I have no regrets."

 

"And we've got all the time you want. I'm free for a while. What about you? Do you have anything in your schedule? Are you seeing anybody right now?" Voltair asked, kinda joking around. "Or are you free for some day in the future? If you're not, I understand."

 

"It must be tough for him." Voltair laughed. "I'm sure he misses you. And no doubt he's the kind who'll do anything to get back to you as soon as possible. But I suppose he wouldn't want you to worry about him. And that if you don't want to wait for him, you don't have to. But I just be a guessin'. Nothing more."

 

"Just remember you have his. No matter how strange a heart it is." Voltair said. "And if you don't want to stay at Destiny Islands, I believe that the City of Dawn is beautiful at this time of day. If, of course, it is still around. But there are so many worlds out there. No matter where you go, he'll find you. If he doesn't, then he'll have to answer to me."

 

Calder smiled.
"Yeah, I think it's possible" he told her.

Melody grinned at Kiba's comment.
"I guess I will. I'm living here now!"
The ocean was sparkling under the bright sunlight and for the first time in many years, Melody felt happy. She was with her best friend and she was now living in paradise. Things were finally getting better. She wasn't being ruled over by the darkness anymore and now she was the complete opposite.
"I can't wait to meet everyone here. I never had friends before. You're my first ever friend. Have I told you that?"

 

"You're a good guy, Kiba" she told him.
Melody kissed Kiba on the lips, smiling. She was blushing but Kiba saved her. She loved him for that. He was her hero.

Calder grinned.
"We never finished that race to the tree. Remember? I wonder if you would go out with me to the dance?" he joked, giving an impression of himself, 6 years ago.
He laughed and held her hand. He started running towards the wooden bridge, that was fixed 5 years ago, holding her hand.
