The New Dawn 5: Shadows Awaken

Rai caught the card and looked down at it, she decided to not mention to Voltair what Hunter had said. She was pretty sure he was just being a smart alek but Voltair seemed annoyed enough with him. "Thats weird. He seems to have left us another suprise. I thought we only had two floors left." she handed Voltair the card because she didn't recognise it.

 

Siah looked shocked "Harone... I'm so sorry I should have senced her comming." she said, suprised. "We have to get them back! This darkness has gone to far. We should go see the King. He has always known how to beat the darkness before maybe he will know something about it now."

Rai sighed "This just keeps getting more weird." she said as she walked toward the ladder and climbed up. She looked back at Voltair "We should get going. The sooner we get through these memories the better."

"NO!" Kiba woke up with a gasp. That dream seemed so real. Siah and Calder in danger, Nicole's children growing up to be evil and killing their parents, and Raven and Voltair fighting about something. He shook his head "It couldn't have been real. Raven isn't even alive so if that part isn't true then maybe none of it is." he whispered, trying to stop his hands from shaking.

 

Nicole wanted to help find her son and daughter but she was very tired and in a lot of pain. She didn't argue when Harone helped her to the bed. She looked up at him with worried eyes "Please... bring them home safely." she said to him weakly.

Siah looked at Symm and Calder "Where did we leave the ship when we got here?" this was an odd question but she had just used her own light to save Destiny Island again only a few minutes ago. She honestly didn't remember.

Kiba nodded "Yeah... i'm fine." he said distantly. He looked back at Melody and attempted to smile "Sorry if I woke you up it was just a weird dream."

 

Kiba's cheeks felt hot. He hadn't had a girl kiss him before except Siah and Kairi and those two were related to him. He smiled and stood up "Ok let's go find them."

They were about to walk out when Siah, Calder, Harone, and Symm walked into the ship "Siah?" he said. "Whats going on? Are we going somewhere?"

Siah nodded "Yes. Melody you and Kiba can stay here if you want but Vanquish came and kidnapped Harone's son and daughter. We're going to ask the king what's going on."

Rai nodded "Something makes me think we haven't seen the last of him by a long shot dont worry." she said as they got to the top of the ladder. She started walking toward the door back to the castle as she looked at the two City of Dawn cards. She sighed "I guess we just do random choice on this one." she shrugged and took one card in her hand, putting the other in her pocket.

 

Kiba nodded "Of course I am." he said as he guided Melody over to some of the chairs "Especially if you are."

Rai and Voltair stepped through the door and Rai looked around to find the City of Dawn but not like it was supposed to be. She frowned, "Um... ok I believe you now." she was talking about when he said that the city was destroyed once. Rai seemed totally shocked everything was different, empty and abandoned. She took a step into the street, it was so torn apart she wasn't even sure what part of town they were in but she could see someone in the distance. She glared and walked over to the person almost forgetting she was even with Voltair. She remembered feeling so hopeless seeing her home like this...

...Raven walked through the streets of what was once her home and couldn't help but feel like there was nothing she could do to save it. She pulled the page out of her pocket and looked at it laying in her hand. "Why cant my memories be enough to save them all now?" she said glumly. She shook her head "Dont have time to think about that now."
Amelia and Raven's father (RAVEN"S father. Not the dude from the beginning), appeared in front of her. Both of them were nearly transparent. Raven looked at the two, not exactly suprised that they were here. "Why couldn't you tell me before? I know you were just a memory but you had to have known SOMETHING!" she said, her voice sounded different. She sounded kind of angry and hurt.
Her father sighed "I tried before. I tried to give you and Voltiar both hints about what this world is and what you are but seeing as I could only speak through your own memories that was impossible you didn't know about it then."
Raven nodded, she knew he was right. "There has to be some way around this. There just has to be. I can't just let him die let alone be the one to do it! Besides how do we even know that Voltair is going to believe any of this? Why cant you just tell him?"
Her father shook his head "Because he is dark, Raven. We are the light side of this world. He can't see us. And no one said taking the darkness from all of the worlds would kill him."
Raven sighed "No... it will just make his nightmares reality." she looked away.
Amelia and Raven's dad both looked confused. Raven sighed "This nobody named Jaxx. She's a dream reader there are other names for it but thats the simple one. She was watching Voltair's nightmares on orders from Brakdern. Two years ago Jaxx and I met on Destiny Island. She came to me and told me of a dream Voltair had... he had killed a lot of people and then he and I fought and he had to kill me. She tried to use that story to get me to join the Dark Order as well to try to prevent that dream from happening but dont you see that dream is unraveling before our eyes. If I tell Voltair to take all of the darkness from this world, and in result all worlds, into his heart then that nightmare of his WILL come true."
Raven's father raised an eyebrow "And you're sure you aren't just comming up with this wild story because you are LOOKING to find a different way?"
Raven glared "Well let me ask you this. Would YOU want to be the one to tell mom that she is supposed to take the darkness of all the worlds into her heart oh and then tell her that you have to kill her!"
He fell silent. Unsure how to respond.
There was silence before Raven spoke up again "And what if I fail? Then what? He kills me and the shadows take control of his heart? That isn't fair to either of us."
Amelia sighed "She speaks truth. Raven, there is another way. I'm not sure that it's much better but I've had a long time to think about it."
Raven looked at Amelia "What?"

...Rai's memory blacked out then. She shook her head that was weird. That was a lot different than any memory she had seen so far in the castle. For a brief moment she had actually become Raven from that time. She could feel everything that she had felt then. Partly hoping that Voltiar hadn't seen that memory too she looked around for anything else that she may need to see here.

 

Rai wasn't paying much attention to Voltair. She was thinking about what she had seen when the memory came back at a later time...

...Raven and Amelia were alone now. The city was still in ruins but Raven was use to it by now. She had been back here a few times, looking around and preparing for what was inevitable.
"So, if you're right then after this is over you wont remember any of this?" Raven was saying.
Amelia nodded "No one from the City of Dawn will."
Raven was silent for a while and then she said "What about that last thing it said on that page I showed you?"
Amelia smiled a little "I dont know. I guess you have to figure that part out on your own."
Raven made an unaproving face and then stood up "I have to go back home. Next time I come back will probably be..." she didn't finish taht sentence because Amelia was already gone.
Raven took out the page that she had torn from the book and looked over it once more.
"Funny, I'm trying to get my memories to tell me something I never knew." she said out loud. She read the last paragraph from the page out loud: "To cost one life to save the rest is a sacrifice higher than many others. For this it does not go unrewarded... or punished."
She frowned having read this paragraph so many times it was engraved in her memory yet she still couldn't understand what it could mean! Frustrated she shook her head and then tore the page in half setting both sides on fire and leaving them on the stone ground to burn.

...Rai looked down at the ground knowing this was where the page that Raven had been carrying around for months had burned. She frowned "Last time I checked I never had a habit of talking to myself. That is strange she did so so much in this memory."
Trying to get my memories to tell me something I never knew... Rai remembered those words being said but she didn't remember the thoughts behind them.
