    Moonless Night

    23 February 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    pale moon shows but a sliver on this night,
    and you, seem as remote as all those stars,
    that girdle all night's black as milky way,
    so far, so many light year distant you;

    ¿but what can heart do when it glances up,
    searching to fill an absence that's unfilled?
    yearning for traces that filled yesterday,
    knowing that time's mark cannot be reversed,—

    and, anguish to know that every habit,
    as irritating as they had become,
    became the basis of our heart's routine,
    and leaving, now have emptied out our sky.

    Spice Voyage Wish

    24 February 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    I wish that ruby gem was close to heart,
    So distant voyage would not needed be,
    O'er waves that break in rhythms with night's moon,
    Or paths that errant feet have trod to dirt,—

    I wish that somehow soul could keep all stars,
    Inside black velvet bag full of delight,
    That close to home would open as firebugs,
    To light heart's way when lost inside soul's mind;

    I wish that all these wishes that extend,
    Past all the limits that constrain short life,
    Could like a clear spring rivulet run free,
    To find their fate in a wide ocean's blue;

    I wish a wish that may never come true,
    That cannot be released by prayer's song,
    That must in patience wait to bloom its Spring,
    When in some far exotic East it seeds;

    I wish that kisses could bud on spice trees,
    In clusters rich in possibilities,
    With tastes that make all feelings quick succumb,—
    For there soul knows that heart has found its home.

    When Words All Fail

    28 February 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    If only heart and soul could talk as one,
    If only all that's dreamed was life's real truth,
    If only rainbows came when despair struck,
    If only life weren't the end of life,

    ¿What things could one soul tell another soul?

    Of moonbeams, which Hope, rides to reach through night,
    Of star songs twinkling softly melodies,
    Of brown cinnamon kiss and heart's delight,
    And, orchids white blooming in winter mists;

    ¿What tales one heart could tell another heart?

    Of patience and devotion eternal,
    Of faith unsaid that needs no words to live,
    Of silences filled with another's joy,
    And, glory to be close at hand again;

    If only sun did not evaporate,
    Early morn's clouds filled with bright orange dyes;
    And, if only my heart was strong enough,
    To have breath to tell Thee dear what love means,—

    Then moonbeams would not fade when morning came,
    Or heart stop beating when your presence left,
    And, all Hope's dreams that dreamed of dreams unsaid,—
    Would be fulfilled with Thee wrapped in my arms.

    Finis

    12 March 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    love's end,—heart's memories fast tumble down,

    red raging, frothing cataract of thoughts,

    once formed sure core of our soul's illusion,

    now stormed and battered by black knights of hate,

    heart's sanctuary crumbles in despair,

    becoming hope's last home and sepulcher,

    for faith can no more abandon its hearth,

    than we would love forget our life did give.

    Love's Xanadu

    13 March 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Somewhere, under jungle canopy hides,
    A Xanadu of gold impressions fair,
    Between green Eden and blue Paradise,
    A mortal construct of red heart's wish true;

    There, in clear innocence can all love's lives,
    Succumb to fantasies in a safe lair,—
    Form unions ethereal and arise,
    Out of life's shadows and never love rue;

    That Other lost to words and deeds and lies,
    For soul had found that one that was true pair,—
    Sweet subtle cinnamon did heart entice,
    With aromatic kisses cast voodoo;

    But now harsh age of Jaguar arrives,
    Soft soul of care and peace dare not self bare,
    For all that's sacred must be sacrifice;
    And; only in mist dreams,—Heart,—Love pursue.

    A Quartet of Quatrains

    20 March 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    —1—

    In a far place where unrevealed lives heart,
    Without pretense or falsely contrived art,
    With a bare simplicity some call dull,
    In that Eden can love's bloom ground its start.

    —2—

    Without any preconceptions yet formed
    Errant lust true love's citadel hard stormed,
    Fierce its trebuchet all barriers broke,—
    ¿But, will Victory keep heart long conformed?

    —3—

    Undoubtedly heart knew what it longed for,—
    On pedestal a beauty to adore,—
    A gorgeous figure with a sparkling smile,—
    Now,—transformed Gorgon,—still remains a bore.

    —4—

    It started out without even a hope,
    Of course, a man is always quite a dope,
    Not realizing what could or should be,—
    Now that her fairy touch is gone,—just mope.

    Spring Tropism

    21 March 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Bound up in heart's desire to love and care,
    We stand in awe at life's dire storms and stare,
    ¿Did not our soul its toll pay in full fare,
    When vulnerable we gave all to share?

    ¿How came we to this heart rending affair,
    When we alone our peace to this compare?
    ¿What led us to our deepest thought raw bare,—
    To words so sharp as knives that cut and pare?

    Yet, we are richer for those moments dear,
    That brought us harmony beyond mind's fear,
    With nights when moon hid and all stars shone clear,
    While cold Autumn zephyrs blew golden sere,

    Past horizons that our bonfire could peer,
    Past group's cozy gossip with eyes that leer,
    Past into vast darkness with no seer,
    Where only death does life rend and love shear.

    Seasonal Shifts

    22 March 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    ¿How can we live with pretense we don't care?
    For knowing love's a chemical mixture,
    Does not absolve our heart's true feelings felt,
    Those daggers piercing with sharp agony,

    Care not about atomic reasoning,
    But whether heart with heart can bond in joy,
    That momentary lifts dark veils of life,
    Forgetting doom of short mortality,

    As clouds disperse to welcome bright sun's rays,
    So all our doubts and hesitations fade,
    At even the remotest hint of Spring,
    For our soul's sails unfurl with those fresh winds,

    Abandoning our old protected ports,
    Where months of winter held us frozen fast,
    Awaiting signs of change and turning tides,—
    To venture forth upon love's ocean vast.

    Those Mountains Mark a Love

    23 March 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Those days now past that form geology,
    Where heart lies stratified and mountains form,
    Upheavals marking fracture lines of pain,

    Of shock where continental forces met,
    With crazy jagged intersectioned lock,
    Shearing down to volcanic lava flow,

    To blow explosive and disrupt clear air,
    As your words sank into my heart that day,
    As my words pierced your frail and pale beliefs,—

    ¿What greater force could nature have than this,—
    That tore our love asunder forcefully;
    And, left heart landmarks showing this great rift?

    Heart's Wish

    24 March 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    ¿How could I guess?
    That beneath cool lay hidden warmth,—
    A mantle covering soul's depth.

    ¿How could I know?
    That nesting was a way of life,—
    A mother's instinct,—primal love.

    ¿How could I see?
    That man's desire is so short lived,—
    A pleasure whose purpose is life.

    ¿How could I think?
    That daily strains would diverse be,—
    A change of venue morphing things.

    ¿And what of now?
    Easy to dream of geisha dolls,—
    Trained to perceive and love deceive.

    ¿Is that,—heart's wish?

    Telluride

    26 March 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    before literature,
    heart was strict dictate of our life,
    hearth was our small confine,
    and family was all soul's care,—

    but modern freedom sure,
    has opened up wide world for wife,
    yet still inside we chafe,
    old atavisms cause us strife,—

    and golden mean so wise,
    seems just another slick device,—
    for shredded all inside,
    heart would give up honor and pride;

    our hands are cold as ice,
    held prisoner by mind's strict vice,
    and as in black we stride,
    we cannot gainsay or deride;

    soul knows moon brings new tides,
    for those that patiently reside,
    upon broad ocean's side,—
    where heart can form its telluride.

    Blinded by the Light

    26 March 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    ¿Is it me,—or, is it,—us?
    Crazy humanity's love,
    Bright blazing sun high on sky,
    Burning into retinal sight,—

    Intensity forbidding eyes,
    To see but circle's white domain,
    Where blended every color blinds,
    Leaving us helpless to see far,—

    O,—I think, it's not unique Dear,—
    Strange fallacies fair love brings on,
    For convex lens it focuses,
    Every ray bent to heart's purpose,—

    Where collected it can burn through,
    For its intent is only this,—
    Leaving mind in daze after gaze,
    Upon strong orb of fusion light.

    No,—Don't

    30 March 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    ¿And if you left,—how empty life would be?
    Gray days prolonged into stretched misery,
    With never sunshine for reprieve to feel,—
    ¿Would not existence be a hollow shell?

    So fragile to collapse upon a breath,
    That once a kiss in prelude to heart's storm,
    As lightning electric ignited soul,
    Past bliss and joy or mortal emotion,—

    ¿Is not this ennui life's punishment,—
    Forever to endure your presence felt,
    But never to again feel your soft skin,
    Or lip-to-lip embellish salt with gloss?

    So into this thin cup of glass I pour,
    Purple desire that brings me memory,
    For Lethe surely is a dream remote;
    And I, my tears cannot console for loss.

    Four Quatrains,—Love's Fights

    30 March 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    —1—

    We went to war without realizing,
    Each our enemy,—or their soul's sizing,
    But when heart torn into pieces red bleeds,—
    All know that we ate our cake and icing.

    —2—

    Your tears and my screams make an odd sonic,
    Bitter and unresolved this dark tonic,
    Emetic for our struggling souls and hearts,—
    ¿In the end,—don't we both sound moronic?

    —3—

    There was no warning label for this choice,
    No little devil with false thoughts to voice,
    And of our guardian,—no angel was,
    So now, lost love, takes with it all our poise.

    —4—

    There was just a moment to hesitate,
    But, action asks us to precipitate,
    With boldness and with flair to move forwards;
    Then,—many days,—to sad thoughts dedicate.

    Love's Air

    4 April 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Poor heart confounded by air's clarity,
    That feels, but cannot see its essence near,
    An oxygen that fills each breath's deep needs,
    In sweet aroma couched like flower clouds,—
    A motion sensed, but rarely thought about;

    How much we take for granted what is near,
    The very essence of what is most dear,
    Seems oft the very thing that we least fear,
    To lose when heart or soul are not quite clear,
    Until that moment when fate will love shear;

    Then, we despair of breath as drowning men,—
    With gasping, yelling in a frenzied state,
    Declare with force that we would hold to life,
    When previously it had surrounded us,
    But, we failed to discern translucent heart.

    Lost Even Memory

    5 April 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    ¿What name had she that was my love?
    I can't perceive;

    ¿What dream shared we so long ago?
    I can't believe;

    ¿Where is that hot pleasure of kiss?
    I can't conceive;

    ¿How faded both our lust so fierce?
    I can't deceive;

    ¿Why are gone now all those sweet words?
    I can't receive;

    For time and chance havoc have wreaked,
    Since old illusions never peaked;

    And, destiny is just small steps we take,—
    Forgotten when we decide to love fake.

    Tinker Bell

    13 April 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    In that trajectory that flung white moon,
    Upon her circles waning and waxing,
    Diverse and changing with sun's reflection,
    I often go and look for heart's answers;

    Tonight she's full and sets close to sun's rise,
    A synchronicity that moves and shifts,
    As days evolve into short weeks and months,
    To find anew the source of its old start;

    In this I ponder how soul's red heart moves,
    For it's a magic that revolves each night,
    Leaving soul confused with hopes of newness,
    When it seems eternal cycles bind all;

    To rules of gravity that heart contain,
    While hopes and wishes don't seem to pertain,—
    Heart's longings for pure Tinker Bell maintain,
    Joy crests in series in ocean's domain.

    Maybe Just a Whisper

    14 April 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    For lack of words we suffer lifetime search,
    Looking for One that can mend broken hearts,
    How close despair accompanies our quest,
    As brief illusions fade before light's sun;

    It did not seem so far that first step out,
    As we so proudly left our little home,
    Our heart of youth no mortal fears beheld,
    For time had no suzerainty on us;

    And love, that sweetest of all summer grapes,
    Was endless in its inspiration's hale,
    A certainty arising every day,
    That no gray cloud or storm could ere occult;

    Now soul's brown autumn with white hairs draws near,
    While all heart's foundlings have migrated South,—
    Thus we in thought and work approach life's end,
    Looking for words that never were once said.

    You are my Every Thing

    16 April 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    She, a Helen and each household's mother,
    Beauty that draws One man to his life's fate,
    "Baby, sweetheart, sugar pie,—Sweet Desire,"
    Eternal She,—Mother Earth reifies,
    With red lips and skin that makes man's lust fire;

    Honey kisses all other thoughts smother,
    And He a slave until all passions sate,
    For She with cunning device does conspire,
    Until He with blind eye,—She deifies,
    Or, from deep Hades would bring out with lyre;

    So no mortal cares will his love bother,
    He, alabaster pedestal builds mate,
    Where He can daily see Her and inspire,
    Sweet perfume fragrances angst satisfies,
    A form of bliss,—anesthetizing pyre;

    So, even when advice comes from brother,
    That this woman is full of spite and hate,
    He'll say, "Get Thee away from me young Sire!"
    And while his heart with vile slow ossifies,
    He, of his proud Goddess,—will never tire.

    Two Words

    20 April 2006
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Glaciers ripping up and tearing down,
    Leveling all without a small frown,
    Of this our love would make a gold crown,
    While in our sorrows we in salt drown,—

    Warm sweetness of Thy kiss burns brightly,
    ¿How then could poor soul behave knightly,
    When torn by its doubts and fears nightly?
    Yearning for Thy touch given sprightly,—

    ¿Is it Fate or Nature this affair,
    That enticement should require such flair;
    And that screams from us should rend clear air?
    When all that we long for is,—"I care."
