Hunters

As Vlad watched her leave the room, he sighed and slum back into his chair. He then looked up at the ceiling and said "Mira." "Why does your heart still call out to him? I mean, he was the one that hurt you in the beginning."

Lync layed on the hospital bed, groaning and roaring through the pain the nanos were causing him. He let out a loud roar as the doctors rushed in to check on his condition. "His vitals are going crazy." "We need to stop this."

 

Reo looked up at the outside window that held the infinite void known as space and sighed. He had been thinking a lot lately about what he was doing with Grahl and the others. It was truly having an effect on him because he was remembering what the girl's grandfather had told him long ago. "The decisions we make in life have a profound effect on us and those around us. Whether or not we choose to make these outcomes take hold of who we become later in life is entirely up to us. Never forget this...everything has a consequence. Depending on what you do with the consequence determines what kind of person you are. If you truly want to be a good person, you ask to yourself something, 'Is it good for me?' If you can answer this question honestly shall gain something not many can achieve...understanding of oneself. That is truly what determines what kind of man you are Reo-san..."

He looked up at the stars and ran the saying over and over in his mind. He searched within himself and asked the question that he had the answer to.

"What do you want?"
"I want..."
"Well?"
"I want to leave this place..."
"Why?"
"..."
"Well?"
"I want to be free..."

 

Grahl put on his solid steel bulletproof combat armor. He put his helmet on and slid the visor down, on top of the helmet he put on his black general's berret, He picked up an RPK and loaded a clip into it. "Alright, we're going to Jerina. We'll be there within 30 minutes if we go fast enough. Now anyone who's able to come, get in the dropship and await further orders.

After Wolf was done in the hanger he went into his old room and changed into his D.M.C. military uniform. A black jacket with a white shirt and a black tie under it. He wore gray pants tucked into his boots. He picked up his Petty Officer berret gripped it in his hand. He walked out of his room and up some stairs to the front wall. Some of the lower ranked guards seluted him as he walked by, he walked up to the edge of the wall and looked at the enviornment around him. Few trees and plants on this tiny island, sighing he put his elbows on the wall and looked around. Something caught his eye, something was coming out of the water. He stood up and looked closer, strange creatures were coming out. his eyes widened "Not them..." He turned around and started running, as he passed some of the soldiers he called out to them "Sound the alarm! Put the base on Red alert. We have company!"

 

Leo and Heather's heads shot up at the blaring alarm of the base. They looked at each other and without a word ran to the nearest weapons rack and grabbed their guns. Leo grabbed a M7/Caseless Submachine Gun that could hold 60 rounds/magazine and a M6G pistol that held twelve rounds/magazine and two frag grenades while Heather shouldered a BR55HB SR Battle rifle that held 36 rounds/magazine and a MA5C ICWS assault rifle that could shell out 32 rounds/magazine and looked at Leo as he pocketed two frag grenades and the two ran out to the scene of the commotion.

 

Wolf walked down the hallways of the base with a concerned look on his face. Pulling a Blue Tiger camo Deasert Eagle out of a holster on his side and loaded a mag into it. He walked into the base's main command center and jerked his head to the side, motioning Willy to follow him. "What is it?" Willy asked
"Skral-Lasheen."

"He's still alive? That fish man has to give up someday..."

"Not today apparently." Wolf responed

 

Heather and Leonardo appeared next to Wolf after jogging for some time. Leonardo looked at his team member and sniffed, trying to rid himself of the slight stuffy nose that he had gotten. "Sorry about that, Wolf. It kind of took us awhile to get ready..." He looked onward and gestured forward with his weapon and raised his eyebrow, "So...what's the problem?"

 

"Skral-Lasheen, he's a sea creature that has been attacking this base every month since i was 11 years old. He has a bigger attack force this time, and he looks like he wants something other than just the fun of attacking a base full of Defenders.."

Grahl called in his 4 best fighters when it came to full scale attacks. Sgt. Jacol, a master with the shotgun. Lt. Galgren, he uses a flamethrower when he goes on an attack. Captain Mathol, an expert with explosives, he carries a Grenade launcher and a Deasert Eagle. And Colonel McDallen, a man with a large build and very strong. Always uses a Minigun. "The Dropship is leaving, everyone who's coming, get on. Now!" Grahl said into a large public com that was linked speakers all around the base

 

The doctors were working hard stabilizing the nanobots in Lync's body. They injected certain fluids that would keep the nanos under control as they waited for Mira. "Where in the hell is she?" Asked a doctor as he injected more fluid into Lync. As they kept waiting and working on Lync, a message appeared on the doctor's medical computer. A doctor went to it and read it out loud. "I'm on my way. Don't worry because everrthing is going to be fine. I promise. I will be there in about 30 minutes. Just keep Lync busy. Sincerely, Mira." The head doctor then said "May god help us."

 

Heather tilted her body to the side, showing signs of complete and utter boredom of the events that were set before them. "So what?" she began, shooting Wolf a rather seething glare, "This thing having a party here or is it actually a real threat?" She shouldered her BR55HB SR Battle Rifle and clicked her tongue on the roof of her mouth: she was getting annoyed. "It seriously looks like this things isn't a threat so we don't need to hold back," she said, peering through the scope of the weapon ready to fire.

Leonardo looked over at her and lowered her weapon and spoke rather defiantly and surprised at her sudden showing of aggression, "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Heather...we need to be cautious..."
She cut him off, "Oh shut up already! Now all of a sudden you wanna talk to me?! Take a hike Leo!"
He looked at her in her eyes and said nothing further.
She ignored his gaze and spoke to Wolf again, "We need more firepower then..."

 

Tia, Lora, and Dan ran up behind Wolf, Leo, and Heather. Dan spoke up to Wolf," What's the problem here?" he asked him. He was ready for battle. He had changed into his Indian colt hes, which was a red and white feather band around his head, red and blue shirt, and pants, with feather combat boots. Wasn't really what he called indain, but he had something.

Lora didn't know what the red alram meant, but she and tia and Dan went and found Wolf. With her shotgun loaded she was ichin for a fight. Still she was mad that she couldn't rest. "So, What's the problem today?" she asked

 

Leonardo looked over his shoulder and spoke with conviction, "We have some sort of alien threat coming at us at full force. From what I know, we have to defend the base..." he looked at Heather who didn't even advert her eyes from her scope and he stared at the ground but then his eyes shot back up to them, he didn't have the time to think about her at the moment...even though he wanted to.

 

Lync could hear the alarm blaring from the base. That caused the nanos to go crazy. His eyes were forced at a astonishing speed and he let out a loud roar from his mouth. The head doctor watched what was happening and turned to nurse beside him to say this. "Nurse. Go send Doctor Mira a message saying do not come up here no matter what. No matter what!" She nodded and went to do what she was told. As she sent the letter to Mira on the computer, Lync got up from the bed as the doctor said to the bestial defender "You should lay down. The nanos are going crazy Lync!" Lync ignored and knocked out the doctor with slap from his left hand. He then let out another loud roar.

 

Leonardo wheeled around after he heard the howling of the unmistakeable hybrid, Lycn. "Damn it all, those things that are inside him are stil screwing with his head."
Heather held her ground and continued to wait for the coming enemy.
As the chaos raged on, Leonardo's mind raced. How in the hell are we supposed to fend off two dangerous enemies at once? This is too much.
"Leo..." Heather whispered.
Leonardo turned his head. Heather hadn't turned to face but kept speaking.
"I just want you to know..."
"What is it?" The anxiety was nearly crushing him.
"Forgive me..."
He was unable to answer.
"I never meant to get so mad at you...you seemed so different..."
"I understand..."

 

Grahl's ship landed right outside the base, he got off and greeted Skral-Lasheen "Has the attack started yet?" Grahl asked without even glancing in Skral's direction.

"No...We were waiting for you."

"Fine then," Grahl turned his attention to the Captain "Fire away." He commanded.

The Captain pulled out his grenade launcher and took aim for the guard towers. Firing 5 grenades sky high towards the base's battlements and towers. 3 of them exploded on contact with the towers, killing all but one of the guards inside, the other 2 landed on the wall and blew up before any of the guards on the battlements could move. The guard that survived the blast on one of the guard towers had a large open wound, within minutes he had died.

"Again." Grahl said with a stone cold look on his face.

The captain nodded and fired 5 more grenades, they flew far over the wall and into the base's cortyard, exploding as soon as they hit the ground. Leaving several wounded and a few killed inside.


Wolf heard the explosions and motioned for some of the guards in the command center to follow him. As he walked out to the cortyard his eyes widened, scorch marks on the floor and walls, blood all over the ground and people trying to crawl to safety. "Get these wounded inside the base's underground bunker. And then bring out more to help defend..." The guards obeyed his command and brought as many wounded as they could inside the base. Wolf thought as he looked around "Skral-Lasheen was never modern enough to use grenades or any type of explosive...What's going on?"

He walked up to the guard tower's base and noticed a dead body at the base. It looked like one of the watch guards, but how did he get down there. At closer examination his arm had been blown off. Wolf stared in horror. It was the most human slaughter he had seen in such a short time. After he blinked and walked away from the body, he went through the door on the wall and climbed up the stairs to the battlements, he noticed a light coming from the ceiling, after he got to the light he saw that it was a hole in the battlement floors. He opened the trap door leading up to the battlements and saw nothing but bodies. And one man, badly wounded..Trying to get to Wolf.

"Sgt Major...It's Grahl..He's here..."

The man slowly lowered his head and stopped moving.

Wolf was horrified. He quickly ran down the stairs, only hearing more explosions coming from the battlements, he ran inside the base and motioned for the reinforcments he called for to go back "We can't survive outside! It's too open. Get inside and get all the men who are unable to fight into the bunker! Tell Willy to get out the Mechs and bring all the Hunters into the engineering bay! On the double! Move it!"

This was the start, of the most grousome and bloody fight in the history of the Defender's freedom war against the Shadow Legion

 

Heather's shoulder jerked back as her Battle Rifle fired short, controlled bursts of AP rounds. She heard Leonardo shooting off his SMG in quick succession and got three more soldiers before running back behind a a pair of armored doors. She was never accustomed to regular ground combat, she was more attuned to the air and space so things were getting pretty hard for her as she crouched low to avoid getting ripped apart by a barrage of bullets. She looked over to see a DMC soldier still standing only to be shot straight in the head. She traced the trail of white smoke and concluded the unthinkable: snipers.

"We have sniper fire from unknown enemy contacts! scatter and locate the position befor...!!!" Her communications were cut off by the thundering boom of a Fuel Rod Cannon and peeked out to see an incoming fleet of Phantoms and Banshees. "Oh my God...its an invasion..."

 

Will was in the engineering bay as Willy finished up on his armor. "Sir, a few tweaks have allowed my armor to filter the water but it is still experimental as your brother says. I say I will hold Grahl off and you all head to the lake. I will be down there after I have taken car of this..." Will said, loading his BR55 Battle Rifle. He wanted payback on Grahl, wanted to spill his blood. He would get revenge even if he had to die doing it.

 

"Alright, your mech is over there for when your ready.." Willy responded

Wolf ran down the halls of the base, sweat was rolling down his face from the stress. He passed one of the new recruits. "Hey! Go down the the command center and tell them to put the base in lockdown! On the double!"

The recruit nodded "Yessir!" He ran off. Around 3 minutes later an alarm started blaring, all the windows and doors were locked down. Wolf ran into the engineering bay. He saw Willy and Will "Guys, we have to hold the fort here. Theres an underground passageway here that leads down to the lake if they overrun this place. I have all the wounded in the bunker. All the rest of the able soldiers are defending the base."


Grahl's forces broke down the base's gate. Swarming into the cortyard they noticed the base was on lockdown. "Hmm... Looks like we're in for a bit of a challenge...Good ol' Wolf." Grahl said to himself

 

Lync busted through the hull of the ship. He was sniffing the air of the closed hanger. He could smell Wolf's scent. "Hes here. I have to find him." He then burst through the closed hanger door, charging towards Wolf's direction. As he kept running, someone appeared in front of him. It was Vlad. Lync stopped and said "What is it?" Vlad stern look then turned into a smile. "A gift." He then pulled out a electronic key from his pocket and threw it to Lync. He grabbed it and looked at it. It was black and white with a crescent moon on it. He looked at his "father" and said "What is this too?" Vlad chuckled and said "Its to your mech."

 

Wolf turned around and saw Lync and Vlad "Huh? Did they get the nanobots out of Lync?" Wolf asked to himself

Willy turned around when he heard Wolf. He looked closely at Lync, he seemed really tense. He was shaking and he looked as if he haden't slept for days. He slowly stepped towards Wolf "I don't think they did..He looks like he's almost going insain.." He whispered

 

Lync looked at Vlad with a surprise look on his face. "My mech? Really?" Vlad nodded and said "Its all yours. But there is one thing you have to promise me." Lync then said "What is it?" Then with a stern look on his face, Vlad said "You have to promise me that you won't be a Hunter for about a month." Lync's eyes stilled themselves when he said that. "What?"
