    Rose-Red Haiku

    Piano softly plays,
    Life—yellow sun's happiness,
    Smells of pecan pie.

    25 November 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Red roses—run's rain, . . .
Love's perfumed balm lifts life's pain,
    ¡Exaltation's prime!
    (¡Exhalations trine!)

    Rain Storm'd Sakura Renga

    At times, Spring opens
    Deep wounded heart,—year's rebirth
    Passing unnoticed.

    25 November 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Lonely road to town,
    Crushed pink blossoms muddied brown—
    Faltering heart drowns.

    Rain drops sakura
    (Raindrops—sakura)
    Pained heart dry as Sahara,
    (Pained dry heart as Sahara,)
    Blizzard blinded love.
    (Running mascara)
    (Ruins runed máscara)
    (Rouned ruined máscara)

    Grey sky suits dark mood,
    Walking, crushing pink blood bloom,—
    Heart has split in two.
    (¿Heart splitting into?)

    Pink petals stop drops,
    (Heart petals drop stops)
    Uncontainable my heart,
    (Uncontainable pain throes)
    Bleeding into mud.

    Spring's pink storm cast foul,—
    Redemption patiently waits,
    Rain's renewal moist.

    November 2004 Renga

    Cold autumns's imprints,
    They've shifted with time's passage,
    Footsteps fossilized.

    25 November 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Novembris ninth month,
    March started the Roman's year;
    Now, it's eleventh.

    Ninth, then eleventh,
    How man shifts his calendar,
    ¿Cares eternity?

    Entropy is cold,
    Empties soul of its desires,
    All that heart aspires.

    Frozen instances,
    Crystalline clear reflections,
    November's snowfall.

    Frost moon blooms rounded,
    Cool calm clear evening's longings,
    Following azure.

    Bamboo Flute Haiku

    Kurosawa's 'Ran,'
    Tragedy of love unsaid,
    Adapted King Lear,
    Returning to get a flute—
    For bamboo prince loses life.

    Rending night's unknown,
    Stirred emotions,—calm has flown,
    Sakuhachi scowls.

    Warm Mass Haiku

    Group mind doesn't work,
    Ortega y Gasset knew,
    Huddles make puddles.

    26 November 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Mediocrity,
    Huddles in its warm contempt,
    Satiated dumb.

    Randomness Renga

    Unreadable note,
    Unintelligible writ,
    ¿How many meanings?
    Chameleon phrases change,
    ¿What do they really portray?

    26 November 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    When the mind is set,
    All obstacles tumble down,
    ¡E is M C squared!

    Adoration's love's
    Coronation given free,—
    Soul & Heart bondage.

    Futility's whine,
    Bitter lingers like sour wine,
    Dissonant flat chime.

    Antipode Haiku

    There are so many
Fears that steal the heart's calm peace,
    ¿Where's torment's respite?

    26 November 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Afraid of women,
    Dark shadow corners,—lingers,
    ¿Does cold moonlight see?

    Cocoa Cup Storm Haiku

    Hoary white winter,
    Hot cocoa's shining heat.
    Tropic's brown passion.

    26 November 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Bristling storm outside,
    Chocolate hot heart's blanket,—
    ¿Where's winter's cold sting?

    Woven Heart's Haiku

    Receptors control,
    Coordinate and feedback,
    Warn us with pain's touch.

    26 November 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Heart's embrocation,
    Soul's feelings,—fine brocaded,
    ¿Song's gay liniment?

    Kalida's Tanka

    Blind astronomer,
    Poet of the skies,
    Astrological timing.

    29 November 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Cloud messenger sky,—
    Fifteen hundred years gone by
    Kalida sang sly.
When monsoon broke forth her face,
    Tears drench'd parch'd earth's crack'd brown lace.

    Immovable Inside Renga

    There's a pattern laid
    Deep inside all living beings,
    ¿Genetic code, or?
    (¿Genesis's words, or?)

    28 November 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    No one can change you,
Though time and death will try to,—
    Immortal God's soul.

    ¿What is the pattern?
    I recognize that it's me,—
    ¿DNA or Soul?

    I thought love could work,
    That is, to change another,
    ¡Not an iota!

    The man in the boy,
    More experience,—much less coy,
    ¡More expensive toys!

    Ashes to Figs—Renga

    30 November 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Burials at sea,
    Military honors played,
    Inconstant breezes,
Ashes blown back in my face,
None prepared me for your death.

    Acid bitter—parents's death,
    Bile upon my lips,
    Now you are broad leafed,
    Issuing green sprigs and figs.

    Clear azure Spring day,
    All your clothes to charity,
    Male and female both,—
    One set mother imbued lace;
    Dad's suits—permeating trace.

    Through a cycle of seasons,
    Ashes on a fig,
    Your love—still—comes back anew,
    Touches taste as sweet preserves,

    Life's circle perpetual.
    Mahler's D-minor,
I know—Brahms is so much more,
    Catch a falling star.

    Pink Flight

    30 November 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Pink pigs in the sky,—
    Rotundity in light flight
    O, sight of delight.

    Fleeing slaughterhouse,
    Trying to avoid smokehouse,
    Building a straw house.

    Three little piglets,
    Don't want to become giblets,
    Even wolf niblets.

    Cards of Love—Renga

    1 December 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Can't live without them,
    Unbearable every day,—
    So sweet their kisses.

    Thirteen hearts aligned,
    Half the deck's black—other red,
    Luck—stacks against love.

    Four gorgeous Queens,
    Two eyed—symmetric endowed,
    Jack of Heart sly winks.

    Eight—Princes and Kings,
    Yet, ladies say, "Not enough,—
    ¡The Aces out-trump!"

    Of all luck's regents,
    King of Diamonds—Jack of Hearts,—
    Flirt—painted young tarts.
    Clubs and Spades—forgot wile's art,
Filled their souls with bitter dark.

    Love's game—to nice tease,
Which for most is foul dis-ease,—
    Makes it hard—soft squeeze.

    Life After Eden

    30 November 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    In magic Eden,
    Serpent found man—woman,
    Gave them sweet apple,
    Now with eyes open—naked roam,
But, at least they have romance.

    Exhaled then expelled,
    This hardly seemed fair,
    Distraught, together they eld,
    ¿What comfort when mortals sin?
    Life—itself—empty of love.

    Moments brief—passion,
    (Moments—brief passion,)
    Issued forth Cain and Abel,
    One then took a mark.
    ¿Wasn't Earth enough for both?
    Man's heart—vale—deceitful ways.

    Immortal Lethe,—
    ¿Was it sly serpent awoke?
    Little man complains,—
    Says toil is another's fault,
Yet,—each day bright joy full brings.

    Ocean Blood

    1 December 2004
    Corpus Christi

    Ocean—Primal,
    Home,—ancestor's realm,—
    Red dwells and pulses inside,

    Love's veins o'er fill,
    Swollen blue Flames's heat,—
Tidal brine mood swings brash Heart,—

    Splashes through world's brim
    Into ethereal mind,—
    Arching rose petal rainbow.

    Dew Tears—Renga

    1 December 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Mist shrouds our skin cool,
    Tingling dew bells tinkling tulle,
    Heaven's gentle mewl.

    Riding dust pin speck,
Little dew comes for a call,
    Gentle kissing touch.

    Laced upon a web,
    Sparkle spider trapped dew-drops,
    Sun's kaleidoscopes.

    Rolling down seared soul,
Early morn's fog mists wan heart,
    Recalling love's lost.

    Mixed with sienna skin,
    Dewdrops melting musky sweat,—
    Jasmine melody.

    Pine Woods—Renga

    1-2 December 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Turpentine breezes,
    Rusty nails piled,—pine needles
    Crackling underfoot.

    Smooth water's motion.
    Drops or rises as pertains,
    Bushido attains.

    Mother nature's trap,
    Woven silken steel fine threads,
    Capturing man's heart.

    Love's a science old
    Evolutionary trend,
    Propagation's net.

    Love's quiet logic's
    Illogic's quite choleric,—
    Heart-mind-body tricks.

    (Soul-mind-body trick.)

    (Heart-mind-body trips.)

    Echoes in echoes,
    Love bathes echo's soft pathos,
    Drowning song—Echo's.

    Piston-like metre,—
    Measuring life's melody,—
    Basis of our hearts,—

    Pulses of our dreams.

    Smooth water's resting.
    Drops or rises to attain,
    Bushido pertains.

Well, I won't lie and said I've read everything you've posted in this thread, but I do like the ones that I have read. You write like you take the time to think before choosing your words- nothing so far sounds sloppy or amateurish. I like this style- it reads easily and it doesn't feel like you're trying too hard, if that makes sense. >_<

I might come back and pick specific poems to comment on later- kinda brain dead right now.

    Evolution's Game—Renga

    2 December 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Singular queen ant,
    Millions of warriors,
    One unit lays eggs,—
    Billions—human females,
    Billions—male soldiers.

    Man's but woman's form,
    Differentiated some,
    Hormones in the womb,
Think on this and laugh a bit,
More's the same that think not this.

    Extra chromosone,
    But, 'tis not on-off—black-white,—
    Spectrums creating.

    Kipling had it right,
    Subtle, sly and devious.
    "The Female of the Species."

    Ruben Dario—
    They're both like wolves ravaging,—
    "Los Motivos del Lobo."
