I thought I commented on this already, but I guess I didn't actually submit the post or something. o_O

First of all, all three of these sigs are a huge improvement over the original. I think the render could be blended a little better, but the quality looks much higher than it did in the original. I think the colors are more pleasant, as well. The text is mediocre, though. I'd try using some different fonts. And there's still not any real depth, but I'm not sure how to teach that to someone. If you have a Burn/Dodge tool, maybe try experimenting with subtly brightening up some areas of the sig and darkening some others. That can help, sometimes.

And lastly, I really have to comment:

Don't ask for critique if you can't handle it. And you're never going to see any real improvement if you don't keep trying.

To motivate myself to get back into graphics, here's the next sig I'll redo.

I have almost no idea when I made this. It was for a sotw, I know that much. It is closer in age to the Paige sig on the first page than to any of the others I've posted so far, judging by its position in my old photobucket, so it's quite old. It was an attempt at some sort of vector-looking sig. I like the colors I chose, but it's pretty boring, all told.

And because I'm not on my GFX computer, note to self: here's a link to the only decent example I could find of this same image (Link).

Will update this, hopefully tomorrow, with the new sig.

Thanks for the comment- sorry it took me forever to notice it.

Unfortunately, the computer with my graphics software is all unplugged and stacked up in my spare room, so I haven't been able to do anything new in a while. If anyone else here has been doing digital art for a while and would like to post their befores and afters, feel free.

So it only took a year and three months, but I finally got around to redoing this sig:

    Here's the redo:

Don't really have much to say about it. I'm still learning gimp and gathering up resources, but I think it turned out okay.

I did another redo over the weekend, of this sig:

I think this was for some anti-FF SOTW, made around the same time as the last few I've posted. Or maybe it was just me not liking X-2, I dunno. Lots of filter use in this one.

    Here's the redo:

I need to download some fonts so I have some actual options for text. >_< This didn't turn out exactly how I'd wanted, but I still sort of like it, so into the gallery it goes.

I'll give you some critique/advice for the second tag.

This isn't your best tag I've seen from you, my only problem is the text and the render itself.

First I noticed the shadow you used behind the render, I would have actually blended in the render itself with the background by using [Selective color (to give the tag more color)/Level/& overlay for the layer], unless you were trying to go for another look?

The text for the redo looks flat. You could of easily given it some depth by using a text shadow or smudging the 'K' into the tag. Did you use some sort of overlay layer to just make it see-through? Or you could of gave the text some color, maybe a blue or green instead of trying to make it invisible, so it could stand out more then blending it outwards.

Overall I'm asuming your using gimp because it looks like it, keep trying.

Yeah, using gimp, and still trying to figure out how to do things I've known how to do for years in photoshop, so it sucks. It's like they took most of the tools available in photoshop, so that's the good, but then they made them twice as awkward to use. >_<

I've pretty much given up on text; it never looks right no matter what I do. >_<

    Thanks for the comments.

Gonna be redoing this sig next:

Gimp tools are almost like using that rediculous software you can use online (pixlrs).

I'm not gonna lie, I have (rarely) seen good outcomes in tags when it comes to gimp. I think mainly because they were based around smudging. It's kinda abstruct to full off a GOOD basic tag.

It's frustrating. I think if I had never used photoshop, I wouldn't have such a bad time of it, because it really does have many of the same tools. It's just finding them, for one thing, and then just the controls and stuff are so backwards to me.

I've seen some really good gimp tags in the past, though as you say, they aren't as common. I can't say that I was ever astounding at it even with a better program, so I'm still gonna keep at it, at least until I get bored with GFX again, anyway.

Haven't gotten around to doing that FFXII redo yet. Will try and post it over the weekend, maybe.
