Melanie was suprised at how fast things were changing, "Will we ever come back?"

 

"i'm not sure.....probably not."

 

Melanie looked sad, "Where are we going?"

 

"we will have to go some place that they will never find us....an island."

 

Maxwell smiled, " They can run, but they will be found. It is like watching a cat and mouse game. Let the chase begin!" Maxwell laughed.

 

jesse looked at alex, "umm alex? i umm......nevermind."

Hawk sighed. "Sorry, this is all my fault...." Hawk still had his plan in mind for the coming night but for now he would need to make it as subtle as possible.

"If I hadnt been so gullible I wouldnt have said it its just..." He hesitated. He couldnt tell them about his suspicions. If they found the mark they might shunt him, leave him for the Intruders. But then maybe as time went by he wouldn't care. Maybe he'd become like them anyway, a ravenous Soul eating machine.

"I...I think that we should stay put for tonight. It may take some time to russle up any number of Intruders to pose a threat. And we cant move so quickly, it'll be too obvious and he may double his efforts to get some Souls down here. I mean it didnt look like those ones chasing Maxwell were too friendly with him did it? So......anyone agree with me?"

 

Hawk just looked on. He felt so guilty. He was endangering them all just so he could go find out if this intruder would help him. For all he knew he would jst kill him or take him prisoner. But this mark was too dangerous not too know anything about it.

"I...I'll respect your decisions," he said quietly. "We'll move right now if it's a majority vote." He was relying on two things now. That they wouldnt pass the motion, or if they did, that they wouldnt go to far today, so he could still sneak off at night and be back by dawn.

Wait! Hawk suddenly recalled something that Alex had said just a little while ago. Her brother had become an Intruder he knew. But the way she said it, like she feared it. Maybe that was why she so often awoke looking scared. He didnt want to embarass or hurt her. He kept his suspicions to himself and cleared the frown that had grown on his brow.

Jesse walked next to Hope, "We are going to have to stay strong for the others. We are like the leaders."

 

It was growing dark outside. Hawk had been waiting for everyone else to fall asleep. He assumed they had, as everyone was either quiet and still, or snoring.

He walked out, smiling at Alex as he did. The stars were starting to come out. He started to walk toward the museum.
