"Kataang fell to the Overos about two years ago." kairi exclaimed putting her bow and arrow away and looked at the Shynx. "The avatar..." She couldn't believe it. The avatar. She looked at him for a while though confused. 'He's the avatar, he's just a kid about my age!' Kairi thought to herself but stop thinking about herself. She herself was just a kid and wanted to be a warrior, actually wanted to learn to control more elements than water like the avatar, but she knew she wouldn't be able to. "It's getting late, we can talk more at my village." Kairi told him looking around and hopping on a piece of ice floating in the water big enough for both Kairi and Shynx.

Teva sighed as she ate her rice. She was tired of eating dinner alone. Her family was either dead or still in the hospital because of the Overos occupation. She used to hate fighting and was scared of it. But after what happened to her family, Teva stopped being scared of fighting and instead dedicated herself to making sure she would help out in the coming fights. Teva finished her food and walked outside to her patio, gazing into the sky. "When will this whole war be over?"

Shinx backed away from her, holding his head.
    "no....no...NO!!"
He punched through a pillar of ice, causing the debris to fall into the water and one piece of ice slashed across his face. Tears ran down his face and every tear that ran down was as heavy as lead and as it fell to the icy ground, a sharp feeling of remorse stabbed through him, tearing away as to who he was; how his life would be. The Avatar grabbed his staff.
"There's no time for that..." he told her with a hint of anger. He wasn't angry at Kairi; he was angry at himself. It was getting dark but Shinx didn't care. He had to go.

"Wait! Then at least let me help you prepair for your journey, you're in no condition to be going anywhere quite yet." Kairi insisted to him. She jumped over to him and looked at him still holding her arm but it was finally better just revealing a plain huge scratch, but not a broken arm or anything.

Shinx nodded, looking down at the ice below his feet.
"You're right. I'm being reckless. That's what got me here in the first place."
He was thankful for the kind gesture. He thought they'd hate him for failing them. He turned around to her, almost hitting her face and he let his arm slide off her grip. He walked forward and then noticed that he did not know the way to the village, as he stopped at the edge of the ice.
"How about you show me the way?" Shinx told her, with a small smile on his face. Facing horrible truths were better when you have a friend, Shinx thought.

Kairi smiled. "Sure." She said jumping down on the ice. She moved her hand as water came up and broke the piece of ice they were on off. She got down low and used the waves to push them back to the main land.

She jumped off the piece of ice when they reached the land and she smiled at Shinx. "Kairi!" Kairi turned around and saw one of the women from the village run at her. "Where-" She began to say when she saw Kairi's arm and the boy. "Kairi, what happened? And who's he?" The women asked. "I got caught up in the storm, and I'll explain when we head back." Kairi told her. The women nodded and started leading the way back to the village.

Kronos's eyes blazed as brightly as the molten tracks of flame left by his horse as he rode onwards. The desert-like land stretched on for miles and miles as far as the eye could see, but to his left and right, Kronos could see cities overflowing with free peoples. As much as it disgusted him, he had to at least admire their freedom. that was the trade off to being a mercenary such as him. He was always free, but in order to live, he always had to sell his freedom to the highest bidder, and in that view, his life was never his own. He never controlled his own fate because of it. His life was forfeit to the hunger of his belly or the greed of his eyes. He had dreamed of freedom for a long time. The chains of possession had long bound him, and he searched endlessly for a release from it.

As he rode onward, the coarse sand heated by the sun grazed his flesh. It did not bother him, however. He had been under far worse conditions before. As he strode on his steed over another sand dune, a giant wall came into sight in the distance. The wall stretched for miles and miles both ways, and beyond the walls lay one of the greatest cities he had ever seen. It had been a long time since he had a mission in Ba Sing Sei, and the beauty of the magnificent city still amazed him. Many things had changed since the times of old. After fending off many different types of enemies, the Earth Kingdom decided to strengthen its defenses, quadrupling the residential area of Ba Sing Sei and triple reinforcing the walls. Furthermore, There were now three sets of walls before reaching the inner city palace; The exterior wall, the Mid Wall, and the Interior wall. All three appeared to be a mixture of Earth and Metal.

In short, the city was a fortress. It would be able to withstand blockade for centuries if need be... And, having its own marketplace and underground trade route, it could fend for itself without help from outside and easily outlast any attempted seige on the city. Kronos had no idea how Neferius had penetrated this grand construct before, but he was determined to do it again. However, he did not believe that a direct approach was the best route. He felt it needed a more... infiltrating touch. He rode towards the outskirts of the city and stopped about a mile out. He dismounted his horse, knelt down in the sand, and placed his palm against a single area. He pushed down until he found what he was looking for and could feel the hard metal exterior. He knocked twice, and a small trap door opened up in the sand to which he fell through.

The door closed above him as he hit the floor, rose up and looked around. Lucky for him, being a mercenary and a master infiltrator, he knew all the secret merchant passages into Ba Sing Sei. He followed the underground path for what seemed like hours on end until he reached the ending of it. He pushed against the ceiling, and it pushed up revieling the another dark room into which Kronos climbed. Closing the door behind him, he made his way to a small crevice that was leaking light. He pushed against it and it opened into the busy Merchants Quarter of Ba Sing Sei. He pulled his cloak over his face so only the scarlet color of his eyes could be seen. If he remembered correctly, the Earth Kingdom still held a slight grudge towards Fire-Benders, and he was'nt about to go taking on a city full of people who would have his head.

Still, he had his wits about him, and decided to act as reconnassaince to gather more information before Overos' troops arrived. He made his way through the merchant quarter, down past the training areas, and even down through the slums of the city. From what he could tell, the Earth Kingdom had positioned its best warriors, Earth Benders and Metal Benders alike, at each of the cities entrances. The centers of the city appeared to be the least protected... And according to his observations, If Overos' forces were able to breach the cities outer walls, they would still be in for a surprise when they reach the Mid Wall and the Interior wall. Guarded or not, they would be difficult to break down. And through all this, Kronos had not yet even factored in the possibility of rogue benders helping to defend the city.

He made his way back to the merchants quarter and began searching through some of the smaller shops and homes in hopes of finding refugee Benders.

Shinx looked around with widened eyes as he noticed his surroundings. He was at the North Pole! He looked at the ocean and heard it calling to him but as the wind came in, his body shivered and his teeth were vibrating. He was cold because he was only wearing shorts and a shirt, a new fashion, which was invented one hundred years ago.

His clothing was very strange for an airbender. Shinx was a boy who was very relaxed and didn't like to follow tradition as much as his elders. He still followed the beliefs but he didn't think changing the way you look or feel would improve your life; it would hinder it. Now, he was one of the last Airbenders or possibly the only airbender alive.

Neferius slowly got up from his bed. He gave a small look around and smiled at the three women sleeping peacefully on the bed. Neferiu got up and put on his clothes before grabbing his pistol and walking off. As he left his room and saw that one of the women was stirring in her sleep. Neferius quietly shut his door and walked to his war room. It wasn't long before he showed up and he saw that a couple generals were already there and discussing the plans. They saw Neferius walking up and stopped talking. "What can we do for you my lord?"
"Send a servant to bring me my breakfast while you brief me on the current situations." One of the generals waved over a man and gave him the order while Neferius took a seat near the generals. He only sat in the throne of flames when it was an important meeting or he wanted to be particularly menacing. The other general began to explain the current standings of the war to the evil leader.
"Well, our army is suppressing all rebellions in the Earth Kingdom, which are few. The other portion of our army is making slow progress. They told us the mercenary went on ahead after they reached the Earth Kingdom shores. He should be there soon and he'll begin preparations to bring down Ba Sing Sei's metal walls. And finally alpha and beta squads have surrounded both water tribes and should begin their attacks at any moment." A servant brought out a silver plater with a large meal of ham and eggs and laid it before Neferius before bowing and retreating a respectable distance. Neferius took a few bites before he addressed his military minds.

"Just on an off chance, any news about the Avatar?" The generals looked at each other but then shook their heads. "Any strange occurrences? Or is that everything?"
"Well," One general began. He looked around and stopped himself. "No, never mind. It's nothing."
"What were you saying my general?" Neferius asked as one hand went down towards his pistol.
"Well, one of the men we keep posted at the fire sages temple reported that the statue of the Avatar there... well he says it's eyes glowed brightly for a brief period. The sages say the last time this happened was when that famous air avatar returned from his hundred year nap. If this is true, then we should receive a similar message from the Earth and Air temple guards."
"And why did you think this was nothing?" Neferius asked, his hand not leaving his gun as he continued eating.
"Because, my lord, this may be a false alarm. I didn't think it worthy of your attention unless we received conformation soon." The general took a couple steps back. Neferius finished eating and stood up.
"Next time, I'll decide what is worth my attention." Neferius left the room as the general collapsed into the chair.

Kairi walked into the huge cave. She looked as guards opened the gate to go deeper in the cave. Inside the cave was huge. It was surprising it was actually a cave. Different tents were set up as children ran around playing. "There you are Kairi!" Kairi turned as a women called out. "We were worried about you, you're lucky we save some, enough for 2 people, oh and thinking of two people who is this?" The women asked looking at Shinx. "This is Shinx." Kairi told the lady and looked at Shinx. "Do you want to tell them? It's up to you, I can gather everyone if you're willing to." Kairi told Shinx waiting for his answer.

    Shinx shook his head.
"It's fine. Kairi found me around the ice, sleeping and I, like Aang, am the Avatar. I think the spirit of Aang saved me on the night of Kataang's attack."
The woman smiled but then her smile faded, as she saw his face frown at the thought of his loved ones dying by the hand of the Overians.
"Well, you look very young for an Avatar so I guess you do not know waterbending yet?"
    Shinx nodded.
"That's right, maam" he answered. "I found out I was the avatar one day before the attack happened. I do need some help"
    The woman patted Kairi's shoulder.
"Well I'm sure Kairi could help you out a little and also our master could teach you aswell. His name is Nhidir. Anyway, it's getting late so would you like to join us to supper and camp with us."
"That would be nice" Shinx replied. "....but I've had 2 years of sleeping so I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep"

Some time had passed since Kronos had arrived on the outskirts of Ba Sing Sei, even more after he infiltrated it. He knew the armies of Neferius would be arriving at the Southern Gate soon, and Kronos just had to make sure they would not encounter any more than they were bargaining for. He was a powerful fire bender and one of the fiercest warriors.... But even he could not stand alone against an army of rogue benders. He was tough, but not that tough. He had been scouring homes in the Marketplace area for awhile now, looking for said refugee benders. He had to make sure everything went according to plan. He was, after all, getting paid for it.

He was trafficing himself through variuous apartments at a rapid pace, swiftly melting the locks as he passed each door... He would sprint through the apartment, glancing aroud to see any signs of bending or life, then propel himself out a window to the next homestead. As he leapt from another apartment window out to a rooftop, he stopped a moment to survey his surroundings. It was night now, and the moon's glow shined dimly over the city of Ba Sing Sei. Something caught his ear.

"When will this whole war be over?"

He quickly ducked and laid himself back against the rooftop, creeping out only his head to see where the source of the voice had come from. He then laid his eyes upon a young girl standing on the patio outside her apartment. She was gazing up at the sky dreamily. He found himself rather confused that such a young girl was in an apartment all alone. Then, something else caught his attention. He hands were a bit dusty, and he could smell the stench of disheveled earth. Then he realized it. She was a rogue bender! He sensed something else as well, but could not make out what it was.

Instead of making his presence known, he decided to remain slumped on the rooftop in the night, watching the girl tediously waiting for an opening to strike.

Teva was about to go back n when she saw, or rather heard, a young man rushing through the streets screaming something. Teva propelled herself with a short tower of stone and landed in front of him. "Hey, calm down! What's going on? Why are you screaming?"
The man took a moment to catch his breath but then he started speaking fast. "our scouts by Omashu sent a letter. It took a couple days but this is really bad news, and it's a couple days old! They said, they sad a massive Overos army was coming. They said they had tanks the size of buildings! They said they would arrive by the end of the week, and that was a couple days ago! I've gotta get this to all the officials at the palace so they can get our defense ready!" Teva stood aside and let him run on ahead, if what he said was true then it wouldn't be long before Ba Sing Sei was fighting for it's life once again. This time though, Teva planned on being helpful.
"I've gotta warn all the Earthbenders and other refugees." Teva ran back inside to grab her spear but then she was running outside towards the marketplace.

Kronos overheard the conversation the girl had with the young boy. That was all the proof he needed that she was indeed an Earth bender. Kronos followed her as she ran down the streets, he himself leaping from rooftop to rooftop. He had to stop her from warning her comrades. The defenses of Ba Sing Sei were enough, Overos did'nt need any more resistance. After all, this was his job. He jumped again to the next rooftop, and the next, and he finally began closing the distance between them. He leapt high and propelled himself with his fire bending, spiralling forward and landing in a crouched position in front of the girl's path, smoke still pouring from his palms.

Teva had just taken a sharp turn when she found her path blocked by a man crouching in the shadows. Teva could tell he was a Firebender simply because of the smoke coming from his hands and the heat that radiated around him. "Oh good, a Firebender. Listen, go warn your buddies. The Overos army is coming with tanks to take back Ba Sing Sei. I'll get the Earthbenders. You get the Firebenders, we're gonna need all the help we can get." Teva never really liked Firebenders, but she trusted them. After all, they had been allies ever since Avatar Aang ended the great war. Teva didn't know where the Firebenders stayed anyways so she'd never be able to find them without help.

Kronos raised slowly to his full height, smirking slightly. This girl thinks I am her ally... He opened his eyes and stared directly into hers. He slowly made his way towards her, tearing the veil from his face so his full face was now visible.

"Apparently, you dont pay too much attention to the news..." he said slyly as he made his way towards her. "Allow me to introduce myself, I am Kronos, Master of Fire Beding and Mercenary for Hire, Right Hand man to Lord Neferius of Overos... I believe, young earth bender, that you have taken you're last breath... My forces are coming to lay waste to this great city... You can either surrender to me now, or face the same fate of your fellow villagers: Annihilation..."

"What?!" Teva shouted as she jumped back and grabbed her spear from her back. She got into her stance and stared at Kronos. Okay, I'm surrounded by earth so I can bend easily, but he can make fire from nothing so no shortage for him either. But what I need to know is how he got in here. Probably acted like a refugee and was let right in. We're gonna have to step up our security if we want to stay alive. Teva jumped up and tried coming down on Kronos with a slash from her spear.
