A Lost World

"I'm supose to give this to you, General Lee wants the sword. He's one of the highest here in commands, I need to follow his orders before yours, but don't use your cadet team captain skills here." The officer said then walked off. Nicole looked at Will and the sheild.

"Well maybe I'll be lucky and he's going to teach me how to use, but he's holding ontoo it." Nicole said. She always thought positive when she could. She headed down to her room and grabbed the bag by teh door, it contained traveling materials, water, blanket, first aid kit, spare dagger/ knife, pocket knife, and some army/ astranaut freezed dry food snacks. She swung the bag over her shoulder and headed back down the hall to Will.

"I better go report, or I may be in-" Nicole began to say before she heard her leader call.

"Smith!" Her leader yelled, her last name. She headed down the hall to approach her leader.

"I have someone you need to meet." He said. "Hey Will." He called.

 

Will nodded and said. "Sir, I am sorry for what I am about to do." He said, raising his left arm. He was about to put his hand through the glass to put the shield back. It belonged here, not with him. "This shield needs to stay here." He said.

 

"The officer's gone Will, I think I may have a key. Your better off taking that with you, you know you'll need all the help you can get." Nicole's leader said.

"Now Will you remeber General Lee's office correct, could by anychance escort Cadet Smith there, I want to get the rest of my cadet's a nice warm up and run before we set off." The cadet leader said. He unlocked the case and put teh shield away and locked it up.

 

Will nodded. "I will escort her sir." He said, saluting. When the leader left Will said. "I'll teach you how to fight because all the academy's moves are easily stopped or readable." He told her as they walked to the General's office. He knocked and a gruff voice replied. "Who is it?" Will gulped. "It's William Johnson, sir." The voice suddenly changed. " Ah, Will. Enter, enter!" He said. Will led Nicole in.

 

"Well, well, well, is this General Smith's child. I heard she can be a bit fiesty." General Lee said.

"How are you William?" The general asked. "Thanks for escorting her, dismiss." The general said. Nicole walked over to his desk and stood at it. She took off her hat and held it in her hands and looked at him.

"I just finished pollising up this little old thing. Family arloom, did you know that?" The general told her. Nicole shook her head.

"You're about to turnn the age in which people can officially enter teh academy and become leaders and everything, so I thought it be about time you recieve your father's weapon, the very weapon he held to save people, and died for all of us." The General said picking up teh freshly cleaned and poolished sword.

"Permission to speak, sir." Nicole said. The general nodded.

"Smith? You have permission to speak." The general said. Nicole nodded.

"Thank you, sir, but how do you know my father?" Nicole asked him.

"He and I are very great friends, known him since I joined the academy, stood up for me and everything, he's taught me how to fight, I was with him when he died, we were surrounded, teh minute I turned to see a sword stabbed straight through his body he fell to teh ground. I was mad and ran to his side. I then took one of the very last bombs around and used it, escaping, and bring your father back to camp, he was gone though." The general said. Nicole's face was pale.

"I do remeber dragging he told me to take care of her, teach her, make her great... I think he was refering to you, so here you are." The general said. Nicole felt a tear coming she held it back before he said to let it go, he's a man worth crying about. Nicole did just that and attatched the sword to her hip.

"Thank you very much sir." Nicole said.

"Your welcome, Smith, dismiss." HE said. Nicole left his office.

 

Zack was leaning against a tree, talking to his farther on a video unit built into his sun glasses. "But dad, I don't know if I should represent the family in all of this." He exclaimed. Emily had gone off with her friends, so he could have some privacy.
"Zackarias. I know how you feel about all of this, but you are of age now. You are a very smart lad, and you will be a great lord. It's time for you to realize this status, and become Lord Zackarias."
"Emily would laugh. I hate being forced into a position were I am responsible."
"You're president of your schools combat club. Surely that's a responsibility."
Zack knew he was beat, but he would go down fighting at least. On to death and glory. "Thats different. I'm not responsible for peoples lives."
"I'm not asking you to take command. I'm saying that you could make peoples lives a bit easier by giving your tactical input. You are so far the strongest member of our family in your age group. You are no longer a child. Be what you were born to be."
"Fine. I'll do what you ask, father."
"Hey, if it doesn't work out, you could always disguise yourself as a grunt." His dad said with a laugh. "Don't tell your mother, but i did that once or twice."
Zack's interest was piqued. "How'd that go?"
"I got my arm cut up, but if felt good to be a normal guy on the battle field. I have to go. Make us proud, my son."
"Yes father."
"I'll let your commander know about your knew status." The screen went black with a signal lost message pulsing on it.
Zack sighed, but pushed off from the wall. I suppose, I better go track those two down. If their commander is still giving them trouble, i suppose i can do something about it." He began walking down the halls, finally finding Will leaning against a wall next to a door way. "In answer to your earlier question, things just took an odd turn. I'm now a lord." He breathed deeply as he tried to grasp this new responsibility.

 

Will's jaw dropped at Zack's news. "Your kidding! I mean... sorry for lollygagging sir!" He said, saluting. He was a lowly captain, only there because of his grandfather's reputation and his skill.They were going to make him higher but he said no. He would rise by skill, not blood. Then Nicole stepped out with the sword. "Hey, do you want me to teach you to fight?" He asked her.

 

"Oh man, please don't salute. I'm hating this enough as it is. Oh man, Emily will laugh at me for sure." He saw Nicole at the same time. "Haven't i seen you around the school? Names Zack." He extended his hand.
Then he saw the preoccupied expression on her face. "Maybe later." He put his hand in his pocket. "Hey Will, how long till-" He was cut off by a shout. "Zack! Hey Zack!" He turned to see Emily come pelting down the hall. "I heard the news! Whoa." She slipped, and went flying. Zack grabbed her, almost crashing to the floor. "Hey thanks, Lorrrrrrd Zackarias." She laughed. Zack just groaned.

 

Nicole looked at Will.

"I should be ok. I think I got my dad's genes for it." Nicole said. She looked around down and up the halls and looked at zack and Emily.

"Hey listen I got to go find my leader and squad mates." Nicole told them. She walked off down the hall and stopped at a sign explaining the trip info. She looked back at her father's case and saw they were cleaning it out, she then realised why she got the sword someone else just died, they were cleaning out the whole case. She walked over it was the janitor, one of the few people that did talk to her, before the sword came to her.

"Oh hey Nicole." The janitor said. "Would you like this in your room?" The janitor asked. Nicole sighed and nodded.

 

"Come on Will. We should get going, were in the same squad right?" Zack said as he began to walk down the hall after Nicole. "Besides, your friend might need a shoulder to lean on. Her body language was screaming distressed. I'm good at these things."
"Really?" Emily asked. "So what do you read in me?"
"A noisy clutz." He laughed, dodging a right hook.

 

A box was set outside of Will's room. It was the shield that his grandfather had used. They were cleaning out the case and he was the only one to take it. He saw the box and went over to it, opening it slowly. He lifted the blue shield out, staring at the red and gold insignias on it's face. Will lifted the case, set it in his room, and put his mirror shield in it, closing it tightly. He slung his grandfather's shield on his back and strode purposefully to General Lee's office, knocking hard. "Enter." The general said as Will strode in. General Lee was suprised. "Will, what is it? Is that your Granddad's shield?" He asked. Will looked him dead in the eyes. "General, I would like a higher rank. I want to honor my grandfather's wishes and take his position." He said. "But Will, you know that position is suicide!" He said. Will nodded and said. "I know but he wanted me there, so do it." The general nodded and changed something on a few documents. "Ok Will. You shall be the commander of the infantry on the frontline. You shall be working with Lord Zackarias. Also would you like Nicole to be with you?" He said, looking at Will with worry. "Yes, she shall be my second in command." He said. The general nodded, marked it on her record, and said. "Just keep yourself safe, my boy." Will nodded and stepped out of the office. He was ready to take his revenge on the things that killed the last of his family.

 

"So Will. What do you think of all this... Will? Will?" He looked behind him. There was a Will shaped spot without a Will to fill it. "Bloody hell. Where'd he go?"
"He walked off without us." Emily answered.
"And you didn't tell me?"
"I was trying not to laugh." She replied happily.
"Why i oughta-" His glasses beeped. "Oh now what. On."
The general appeared. "Ah! Sir, what can i do for you?"
"I have some interesting news Lord. Will has been promoted."
"Ah. A captain, a nice position."
"No, Commander of the Infantry. Have fun." The general replied to his shocked expression.
"Oi wait! What did he do?" Zack asked in wonder.
"He became stronger. Let your rose be the thorn in their backsides. Good day." The general waved then went off screen.
"Zack what is it?" Emily asked.
"Bloody hell." Was all he said.

 

Nicole was jogging around the field piccolo in hand blowing different commands she knew. She stopped then put her piccolo away and drew out her sword. She finally came to a nice slow stop. She put teh sword away and had her hands on her knees. She looked up to see Will.

"Did you get your grandfather's stuff, the janitor was cleaning out the cases." Nicole rano ver to him saying. She saw the shield and knew it was a yes.

"I wish they would keep it there, but I guess it's ok." Nicole said. "Hey you look surprise, what's up?" She asked him.

 

Will looked at Nicole and said. "I've taken his shield and his position. I'm now commander of the infantry and you are my second in command." He grinned slightly. "I'll make him proud, I hope..." He said, thinking about his grandfather. He decided to finally take his grandfather's rank and position, growing stronger and wiser.

 

"Me? Why me though? I'm only a piccolo caller, I can't do much." She told him. She looked down at her father's sword. Everyone wanted her to take over her father's position as general so second in command was pretty close. She sighed.

"I guess then." Nicole finally said. She looked up then.

"Don't we need an infantry first?" Nicole told him.

 

Will nodded. "True... We need time to recruit... Dang, we have no time!" He said. He looked at her. "Find some people that are going on the trip that have weapons and can fight. They'll be infantry for now until we have time to organize one." He said.

"Nicole is head of infantry?" Zack asked as he walked up to Will and Nicole. "Thats great news. Now I'm not the only one in charge." Zack leaned up against the wall. "If you want some members i would try the school's arcade. Theres a lot of guys that hang out there, and their good at the shooting sims." He pointed towards building C. "I think its over there, but you better hurry. We're leaving in three minutes." With that, he walked away whistling.

 

After getting out of surgery from that morning Kardorious made his way to his dorm room."What is this now!?" Reaching his door he noticed a bright orange piece of paper taped to it. Tearing it off he read it and by the time he had finished he had the biggest grin on his face. This little piece of paper said that he indded had been selected as one of the members to go to the trip. "WOOO~HOOO!!!!" Quickly feeding his cat and making sure that there was someone to take care of Sebastion the days that he was gone he loaded his brief case with all of the neccesities. Stopping to look down at his medical tools he didn't think that he would need them on this trip but also didn't think he could go anywhere wiothout them. He had grown accustom to them being there and using them in the need arrouse. Putting on his normal attiar he said goodbye to the cat and made his way to the transports. Making his way there he looked down at his watch. "Wow, talk about early!" Pulling the paper out of his pocket he read it again. "8:30!" Making his way to the transporters he noticed that no one was there. "Sheesh, talk about a ghost town." Walking over to one of the guards he asked. "Excuse me but I got this piece of paper and just got off work. Is there any possible way I can get on to one of these transits early and wait?" The man not even acknowledging Kardorious's presence pressed a button on his Red Cross military vest and the door to the transit opened in front of him. Nearly having stepped inside the officer said.
" It is an honor to be in your company Dr. Fang!" Turning around Kardorious noticed a giant red cross on the mans vest.
" Your accomplishments are legendary in the medical facilities around the world!" Giving a large bow he did the same. "Well, it is nice to know that there are those who follow my work. Thank you for the compliment." With a final bow from the Officer he returned to his previous post. Finding the clossest seat he sat down. " Time for a little shut eye."
Waking to the sound of a loud thud as the Transit began to move Kardorious looked around to see that he was boxed in by people on every side. Not leaving much room to move,but peeking his head above the croud he looked around to see if any of his friends had happened to get on the same transit as him. Peeking at every face he noticed only one friend. "Reson!!"

Zack sat back on his seat as the transports fired up. Emily was next to him. "What do you think?"
Emily looked over at him. "Huh?"
"What do you think?"
She paused as she tried to figure out the question. "I'm thinking that i don't know the answer."
Zack smiled. "What do you think about this whole trip?"
"Oh." She sat back. "Let me keep on thinking for a while." Before long, she leaned against his arm shoulder, resting her head on his collar bone. "I think it's good for us to have a challenge. Deepen our
trust and our bond."
"Emily." Zack whispered, but she cut him off.
"Lets just sit here for a while. You and me."
Soon she drifted off.
After a while Zack said, "You can come out now...Halja." A cloaked figure with a large scythe came out of the shadows.
"Well, you seem to have gotten a catch." It whispered.
"She is everything i could ever hope to have. So, how long do i have?"
"Many years." It replied in a sibilant voice.
"Then if your not here for me... NO!"
"Indeed. This girls father has a contract with us. His life, for this girl."
Zack thought quickly. "I invoke the right."
"And what right is that?"
"My time for hers. I give her some of my life."
It paused for a while. Finally it said, "Very well. I hope you don't come to regret it." It vanished.
He began pondering what had taken place. "This eye of mine. I never thought i could use it to save a life. Least of all yours. The eagles eye."

 

Will was reparing to leave, mounting his cycle and throttling the engine. He smiled as the deep, guttural roar of the engine echoed through the field near the gate. He had built this bike with his own two hands, with some help from his grandfather long ago. He strapped his sword and shield to the side, placing his mirror shield in a compartment on the back. That had been his grandfather's idea. "You never know how much gear you'll need so it's best to be prepared!" The words echoed familiarly in Will's head, making him smile.
