Your manner of elaborating on powers is just fine. You can do that as you like. I personally prefer the way of giving a rundown of my characters' powers' mechanics and examples of what they could do with them, as I find that just listing moves or spells limits potential imagination and ignores that powers have to work in some physically manner.

As for judging, it's optional; if you feel you can trust yours and your opponent's judgement, then there's no need for one, though a third party to make the final call in an even bout or questionable situation always helps keep the battles flowing without argument.

To answer your questions specifically:
Arena battles need not be connected to current RPs. In general, any challenge issued is its own separate story, independent of anything else going on. However, you may choose to stem a battle off from an RP, as an extension of sorts to your character's plot. You can of course have a challenge between a character of yours from an RP, and those of others from the same RP without it being connected to the RP. It's all just a matter of choosing to connect it to a larger plot. And by that note, you may choose to string individual battles into a storyline in themselves. That being said, in battles that you do connect to others, there are consequences, namely in that damage is lasting (lose an arm, then it's gone, die, and it stays that way until some sort of necromancy can be worked out). Granted, there's not much of a continuum around here. Battles don't have to be to death.

If what I'm seeing in your profiles is any indicator, you'll do wonders for the community here. I'll definitely have to block out a chance to RP with you once my travels conclude.
