Xenotransplantation

It sounds cool, but the risks are anything but. Xenotran (too lazy) is putting different animal organs inside us, or other animals for that matter. Either way, the animal has to die but for the life of a human. There has been many protests against this and just as many agreements.

Whose side are you on: your own species or the lives of all beings?

    GrandShadow I accept your challange.

this really seems like sci-fi movie stuff.

personally i don't see anything wrong with it. although i will admit, i wouldn't get it done if i had the choice.

I'm reminded of the movie "The Animal" starring Rob Schneider by this quote and the topic itself..

If there are no negative side effects (At least nothing more negative than transplanting a human organ to another human), then I'm all for it.

My own, in this case. That's not to say that I think animals should be treated with cruelty, but if the technology exists to save human lives, I think we should try. I don't think it's any more wrong to raise animals as organ donors than it is to raise them and slaughter them for food, which we do all the time.

And if I were one of those 10 patients on the organ donor wait list who die each day, I think I'd rather take my chances with xenotransplantation, even though the idea is a little bit icky to me.

You will die sooner or later so I really don't care for xenotransplantation. I would rather die a natural death than to just count on something to stay alive.

I'd rather it be later, and I reckon most people would agree with me.

Are you opposed to organ donation in general? In my opinion, it doesn't matter so much where the organ/cells/whatever come from, as long as they do the job. Though if I needed a transplant, I would prefer to get it from another human, if possible. But if it weren't, hello xenotransplantation.

In general, yes. Sure, I can see that it has it's benefits but seriously, this kind of medications also has risks that can also make you die sooner than you think. If I'm living a long life and I have enjoyed it, then there's no reason for me to try to count on something when I know that there is no way to delay the inevitable.

And if you haven't lived a long life? People of all ages need transplants, for a variety of ailments.

If you get hit by a car, then oh well. You just die at a young age. Can it treat cancer? Can it treat your diabetes; which it causes anyways. What are teh benefits anyways? I really can't trust it and I am not the only one who don't trust it. Besides, if it gets treated on the individual soon enough, then it might save them but if it make the situation worser, oh well.

Well, if you read what Blade wrote, you'd see that yes, they believe that it could help people with diabetes.

    It saves lives.

If you're going to die shortly if you don't take the risk, what harm are you doing yourself by trying out a transplant, whether xeno- or other?
