    The World of Infinity

PRELUDE (Not completely necessary to read)

    The Cavern of Senses

D'amiens Laurent awoke from dreams of flying, and falling. Of pain and torment. He opened his eyes, one final time...darkness...only darkness remained. He spoke:

"If something were different...maybe I wouldn't feel such a need for slumber." To D'amiens surprise, his now weakened voice prompted a change in his surroundings. A hint of red now touched the black slate. It grew...danced in a rhythmic way...ah, a flame. His eyes were blurry, but he reached for the flame, it felt warm on his hand. As he caught a glimpse of his right forearm, his vision intensified. He could now see the flame was not without reason, not without purpose.

"A candle!" The words seemed to pour out of him as he picked it up. It was the first time he'd seen anything in a very long time. His muscles strained under the weight of his new friend, and he brought the flame to his face. It cast shadows onto the walls, and for the first time D'amiens could see he was in a cave. A few of his hairs burned due to their proximity to the flame, and that foul burning smell filled D'amiens nostrils. The candle now felt a lot lighter, and he tried to rise to his feet.

"Hello?" "Hello?" "Hello?" The sound of his voice echoed off of the cave walls, but there was no response. He began to walk through the cave heading toward the sound of his echo. It was not long until he found a body of water, and his thirst took over. He could swear the water tasted sweet, but reason told him otherwise, he was more than likely just parched. It was at this point that he noticed someone was watching him.

"You...you look so familiar..." But he did not speak. "What do you want?" But the stranger did not respond. "I'm looking for a way out of here..." and yet he still refused to speak. So he reached out to touch his apparition, and the apparition reached back.

It's a mirror... he thought. He touched his reflection and it felt cold and wet...it was his reflection cast on the water. My own reflection...how foolish. He dove into the water and felt sunlight on his face...he was outside! His head emerged from a hole in the planet's surface.

"How did I wind up outside? What a dreadful place...I certainly would not like to be in there again."

    --------------------------------------

The Beginning (feel free to jump in any time!)

    The Planet Aleph

D'amiens Laurent climbed out of the hole that kept him captive for so long and dusted himself off. It would seem he had developed Stockholm Syndrome...he missed the cave and was overwhelmed by how huge the outside world was. His first encounter was not with a human being, but instead with a mechanical entity known to the people of Aleph as a Hound; a being of eight legs, resembling an ordinary household spider (whom also find residence on Infinity).

Image - H.O.U.N.D. (Harvesting Offensive UNderground Digger)

No one knew who created the hounds (or any other mechanical beings). Some took it as evidence of life on Aleph prior to the Infinitian domination, while others believed it was a rogue digger who wished to monopolize the mining industry.

None of that mattered now, because this Hound certainly put the O in H.O.U.N.D. The large spider-like creature swiped at D'amiens with one of its front legs, forcing D'amiens to take a defensive stance and dive to his left.

"Just my luck..." he muttered. He felt too hungry and weak to use any sort of magic to combat his foe, and so resorted to some good clean rocks he had on the ground beside him. He cast a stone at the Hound but that simply aggravated it.

I'm going to need a bit of help with this one... he thought to himself.

Something shined in the distance: The scope of a rifle. It's owner was rather large and bulky, with his blue and white scales, and a dust mask with sniper goggles was over his face. The gun fired - the bullet reached it's target before the sound was heard by D'amiens, causing the Hound's head to explode in a rather violent blast the size of an SUV. The metal monstrosity seemed down for the moment, and the being stepped towards D'amiens and threw the other creature over his shoulder - but not before placing a tracker device on the body of the Hound. He began running, taking large strides with the immensely powerful muscles in his legs, before he reached a type of fighter, modified for simply just cruising in an atmosphere as opposed to Space. He place D'amiens in the back seat and took off. . . .

D'amiens was confused, but did not mind the attention given to him by his host. After all, anything beats being back in that cave.

"Excuse me? Where are we going? Do you speak Infinitian? Parlez Infinitienne? Hablos Infinitione?"

The being finally pulled down his mask and goggles, revealing his great maw and three eyes. (Five if you count all three mini eyes as a separate unit.) After what seemed like an hour, he finally spoke.

"A Human out in Junas territory. . . . With no mask. . . . Tell me, who are you? And why didn't you have a mask?" He asked, hardly giving D'amiens a notice as he steered the ship. His massive hands touched a dial, and a hologram radar came up. A voice, Infinitian, came up, asking for clearance to travel the pipeline when he did so. The 'Aleph' native punched a few buttons on his console, and he began flying straight upwards. . . .

"A mask?" D'amiens was confused...but it was at this point that he realized his captor was indeed, a better friend than he had found in the now devastated HOUND.

"I am D'amiens Laurent...and I am a ..." D'amiens stops himself from saying 'murderer' as he has no ill-intent toward his blue acquaintance and would not like to stir up any trouble. " ... er ... suffering from a bit of an amnesic episode. I awoke in a cave beneath the planet's crust near our encounter with the mechanical spider."

The driver seemed to take a while to respond... I like this guy... D'amiens thought. We share that characteristic Stoicism.

"Do you have a name, burly captor?"

OOC: Sorry to sort of 'piggyback' on your RPing, I'm just not sure where you're headed :) (and thanks for playing into the mask thing!)

(Well, I can't just ignore the big details, now can I? Oh, and if you don't understand what he means, Junas is the Baroka name for the HOUND)

"Kura'to. If you can't remember, then maybe someone from the other end of the Pipeline will. . . . I am no captor. I am a scrapper. . . . Those Junas make for good money."

As he spoke, they flew out of Aleph's atmosphere and into the open space of the Infinity Pipeline. It was truly amazing technology, being able to fuse together two planets like so. But, Kura'to didn't speak of it. He only got straight to the important things. . .

OOC: (Please let me know if I've interpolated Kura'to's dialogue incorrectly...I'll go back and edit it :) And again, thanks for playing into the mask bit, I can finally rectify it here...also let me know if you have a different idea in mind, but I figured we would head to a capital city kind of deal on Beth (The nice planet)...we can backtrack if you necessary :) Do Barokas have different names for Infinitian cities on Aleph? Or just those on Beth?)

D'amiens looked around and saw the black, 'spacey' environment of the infinity pipeline. The heavy metals from the Aleph atmosphere began to fade from his sinuses as they began to enter the Infinity Pipeline.

"I feel better already," he said. "There is a lot of dust in the atmosphere. It obstructed my concentration...that is likely why I was so helpless against the...Junas you called it? You spoke of the other end of the pipeline?"

"I suppose anything is possible." Kura'to's words were powerfully stern, yet oddly reassuring at the same time. "We should make for the planet Beth. I believe you Infinitians refer to the capital as 'Daventry.'"

    "Yes, I remember Daventry's geography...but I don't suppose I remember much about its residents."

Kura'to punched more buttons into his command console as they penetrated the other end of the Infinity Pipeline.

"I never did thank you for your help sir. If you hadn't come along, I may have been in a fair bit of trouble. I..."

Then their vessal shifted into a rapid descent which startled D'amiens, and it wasn't long before they touched base in Daventry.

OOC: You got him right. Unfortunately, I have a mental incapability for RPing other people's characters, so don't expect ME do do much with D'amiens. And Daverty is fine - backtracking would be unnecessary for the moment. The Baroka wouldn't rename cities already named by others. However, they already have names for the reigons and whatnot.

A holographic figure of a greasy Endorian popped up for a moment, and he and Kura'to conversed for about 10 seconds on the recent H.O.U.N.D. kill, ending with the Endorian nodding and saying that he'd send a 'Junker'.

"Come. We must hurry, if we are to find anything about you." The Barokan said, pressing a button that caused the cockpit to open up for their exit. "The Gatherers do not stay open very late. . ."

Where better to ask than the local tavern? D'amiens thought. A popular hangout for Enelorian and Infinitian alike, I'm bound to meet some interesting characters. So D'amiens asked his companion:

"Would you be willing to accompany me to a tavern in Daventry? Or must we wait for the Junker first? I'm hoping to see something that will jog my memory."

The Barokan shook his head, responding to the Infinitian, "The Junker is heading towards the Junas I killed. . . . You Humans call it a 'Hound', I believe. . ."

The great beast walked D'amiens out of the hangar the ship hand landed in, and pressed a button on the outside, causing a large door to close.

"A tavern may be a good choice. . . The nearest one is. . . 7 'blocks', as you Humans call them, from here."

D'amiens and Kura'to set course for the tavern, admirably refered to as '1280.' (1280 Main St. is its street address)

Calm...calm would be the best way to describe it. Yep...the tavern was the exact opposite of 'calm.' It seems as though the townspeoples' spirits were restless, and not a single eye was on them.

"Something is wrong with the townspeople..." Kura'to inferred. "We should be cautious."

"I'm getting that same vibe...I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask the bartender." D'amiens approached the bartender and began to inquire. "Excuse me, do I...look familiar to you...by any chance?"

The bartender was amused. "Look buddy, I dunno how much you had to drink, but if it was enough to get thrown outta the bar down the street, I can't serve ya no more."

"I'm not looking for alcohol, I'm simply..." D'amiens brushes against a large drunkard sitting at the tavern's counter.

"HEY." The drunkard's large chest and full stomach belowed with rage. "WHAT'RE YOU LOOKING AT?"

The drunkard took a swing at D'amiens. D'amiens reacted almost instantly and dodged to the right, avoiding the madman's fist. His momentum carried him directly into another patron's alcoholic beverage. The mug toppled to the floor with a crash, shattering all hope of drinking said beverage.

"I PAID GOOD MONEY FOR THAT DRINK!"

The two men began to wrestle, and fell onto a table sending various hors d'oeuvres and beverages flying. Almost immediately, a riot broke out.

OOC: I think this (or shortly after) might be a good time for some others to join in. :)

OOC: Now would be a good time to just recreate an OOC thread and get some NON nooby roleplayers. . . The kind that generally joined about half a year ago or more. I've been chewing off my tongue lately looking at grammar mistakes and the like.

"And now, we either depart or fight. I prefer the former." Kura'to sighed as a mug flew at his head. He caught the mug's handle with one finger, the thing spinning from the force, and slammed it on the counter. "Humans are curious creatures. . . . I still don't understand how they can drink this fermented swill."

Another glass flew at D'amiens, which Kura'to caught and and set down next to the first glass.

Tom was sitting down in a corner booth in the tavern. He had a drink in his hand. He was wearing his mining suit, except he had taken off the helmet to drink. He had been watching the two newcomers ever since the riot broke out. Somebody threw something, and it was heading straight towards Tom. He lifted up his right arm. It looked like he had a cannon for an arm. He pointed it at the object and fired a single blast. It hit the object, causing it to explode. Tom pressed a button on his right arm, and his helmet folded over his head.

Xen had been sleeping in a room he had rented in the tavern when a fight broke out downstairs.
Annoyed that he was once again deprived of sleeping Xen put on his armour and attached his sword.

Walking down stairs he saw that the entire tavern was in shambles. People were throwing random projectiles and smacking each other senseless. Xen saw a human and what appeared to be a large beast standing around. Thinking they may have been the cause of the trouble he began heading towards them when a large drunken man took a swing at him.

Blocking it with his right arm he punched him in the gut then using the momentum from the punch he lifted the man into the air and threw him over the bar into the rows of bottles of drink behind the bar tender.

"Im really not in the mood for the crap!" Xen said before he continued aproching the men

OOC: I'll try not to make decisions for your characters, but I'd like to predict some of their dialogue to make for more interesting dialogue (feel free to do the same with my character(s)!) As always, if I interpolate your characters' dialogue incorrectly, please correct me :)

D'amiens reacts to the blast and catches a glimpse of the man in the mining suit. I've seen that before... He completely neglects the man approaching him for a moment, oblivious to his threats.

"I'm really not in the mood for this crap!" Xen draws his blade as he and D'amiens approach each other. "Stop before I make you stop." D'amiens could no longer ignore the threats of this irritated individual.

"Pleeeeease...if I came to cause trouble, I would have come with a weapon, or at least some sort of protection."

"How do I know your body guard here isn't your means of protection?" Xen makes a quick gesture toward the heavy-set Kura'to.

"This here is Kura'to, and I am D'amiens Laurent. I would like to tell you more, but I have just met Kura'to, and I know little of myself. I would not come stir up trouble sir, I had simply hoped someone in this tavern would recognize my visage and tell me a little about myself." He paused for a moment and exchanged stern looks with Xen. "I have told you of myself...now what of you?"

Xen looked at D'amiens as if deep in thought, deciding whether D'amiens' answer was acceptable.

A glass flew and hit the back of Kura'to's head, shattering into pieces. Yet, the being hardly reacted. He just raised one of his hands up and down, parallel to the ground, breathing deeply.

Calmness is the essence of life. . . brashness is the essence of destruction. He thought, before leaving his seat and joining D'amiens. He then commented, "I do not know about you, but it is getting too busy in here. I suggest we leave before more trouble comes our way."

Listening carefully to what D'amiens had just said, Xen decided to hear him out. "Very well" says Xan re-sheathing his sword. Just then he grabbed D'amiens by the scruff of his shirt pulling him forward letting him go when he past him.

Xen suddenly with his hand on the hilt of his sword turned around knocking out a man who had in his hand what appeared to be a broken bottle. Seeing D'amiens catch himself before he fell Xen grabbed his forearm saying "My apologies for the brashness of my actions, but im really not in the mood for this".

Xen still holding on to D'amiens arm led him out of the tavern. Once the two were outside they waited for D'amiens friend.

Tom watched Xen take D'amiens out of the tavern. Since he had his helmet on, Tom's suit was scanning everything. It recorded trajectory motions of objects thrown, the force of somebody's attack, even people's heart rate. His suit also managed to get a history of whomever was scanned. But before Tom could learn anything about D'amiens, he was already out of the building. Tom got out of his booth and walked towards the front door to follow D'amiens.

OOC: Sorry for the 'power play' on Kura'to, but I'm fairly certain you'd walk outside if you posted again lol

Before long, the large Kura'to and the slender, mechanized Tom joined Xen and D'amiens outside the tavern. D'amiens was the first to speak.

"I'm glad to see we have some company now, Kura'to. I will re-introduce myself, for our armoured friend here: I am D'amiens Laurent, and I can't remember too much about myself...infact, I pretty much just remember waking up, experimenting with my senses a little bit, and escaping. That's when Kura'to here, helped me as I was incapacitated by the climate on Aleph." D'amiens gestures at Xen, "I don't believe you've said your name," D'amiens gestures at Tom, "And I don't believe we've met yet."

"I'm Tom." He answered. He tried scanning D'amiens to learn more. But for some reason, nothing showed up. Like D'amiens had never before exsisted. "Hmm... That's strange." Tom muttered to himself.
