The Connection between X and VII

Well, I've heard rumors of this for a long time, with people who think it takes place in the same world using arguments such as the similarities in the coastlines of the beach (or some such bull similar to that). Fear not! I have come through with Word of God on the subject!

Remember the character Shinra from the much-hated (apparently, though I liked the game) Final Fantasy X-2? HE'S the link. Here's the quote.

...and there you have it, folks. That should put an end to any debate. If there still was any. Or maybe you all knew this already and I'm just late to the party. Either way, there it is.

If the events of FFVII was on a different planet, then WHOO HOO! Problem solved technically. -___- Still, we have never seen anyone become an unsent in FFVII terms and we have never seen pyreflies flying around. Even if Shinra's name was used, I find it hard to believe that Spira and the land of FFVII are the same. they are modeled very differently.

Well, my hypothesis is that the two different planets operated on entirely different rules. As proof, I offer that whatever planet Spira was on had no lifestream. Therefore, it stands to reason that Gaia's rules allow for no such thing as unsent or pyreflies.

Ugh, I hate that they did that. It was nice having that little cutscene with Shinra talking about using energy from the farplane (and even his name) as a nod to the FF VII fans, but actually tying them together is totally lame, in my opinion. It's not the same sort of link as we have with the character named Cid, or chocobos, or the summon named Ifrit. I dunno, to me, it's just not supposed to be that way. The games should be separate. And to be tied to X-2 of all games! Lol.

I'll just forget that I ever read that quote.

Probably because FF VII came first? How could they possibly have references to X in that game?

I wouldn't exactly call it tying them together. Since they take place on different worlds, it isn't really tying them together. Heck, I kinda figured that each FF game took place in the same universe, but just on a different planet.

Eh, I guess I see your point, but I see it as them making more of a connection between the games than there needs to be. Unless I'm completely misinterpreting the quote up there, it sounds like the people of Gaia (that's what VII's world's called, yes? I always just referred to it as "the planet") are descendents of the people of Spira, after they took off on a rocket ship for some intergalactic adventures. And that's weird.

Though, I wouldn't consider this canon, anyhow, so I don't know why it bothers me. >_< I just like to complain, I suppose.
