Scariest games you have played?

Just as the thread title says, what are the scariest games you have played?

For me, hands down Amnesia The Dark Descent has to be the scariest game I've ever played. Other horror games make me jump every now and then, but this one actually had me trembling. The atmosphere and first person perspective make the game's scare tactics get to me. Right now, it's only out for PC, but the developers are considering a release for consoles. If you haven't played this game yet, I highly recommend that you try it. A free demo is out on Steam.
The other thing I like about this game is the playthroughs people have put online on sites like youtube. Look them up, and have a great laugh at grown men crying for their mothers.

Other games are probably Exmortis and Goliath: The Soothsayer.
They're horror point-and-click adventure games. They're free, and I recommend you play these as well, but a warning, they use screamer tactics.

While I myself haven't really played any scary games (I suppose the closest would be Left for Dead, but I didn't find that scary), my step brother played this one game that he's too afraid to ever finish. It is called Metro 2033.

    Doom. Good ol' Doom.
I'm not finding today's games as scary. Perhaps I'm a little older or they just don't have the magic that old horror games used to have. The first Silent Hill on the PS1 still gives me the willies just thinking about it. Perhaps I should play that again just to reassure that I've just grown into a fearless man =]

    Silent Hill.
    Ho-ly-Crap!
That game scares the ever loving mess out of me.
There atmosphere is fantastic, the music actually fits, and the stories are very poetic.
You have to think when you see an ax wielding nurse coming toward you (Combination of two diff enemies) that crap that is scary, but you also find out, there is a psychological reason for it.
That's another thing, they don't over load you with enemies.
You never know when, or where they are, so it is all the more scary.

The atmosphere is almost always dark and bloody, with perfect music.
But, even though they take themselves seriously through out the game, they aren't above throwing humorous endings in for you to go back and find out.

In the end, It scares me to the point where I can only watch walkthroughs of it.
I can't play myself, or I would never get done.

I'd have to say the old silent hills and resident evils. By resident evil I mean 0 through 3. They way they starve you for amm and health and the dark and creepy atmosphere plus all the multitude of deformed and mutated creatures it makes me jumpy every time I play. Another game was F.E.A.R. The whole thing about the first mission your the sole survivor of your team because of some small child ghost. Also I gotta agree about Exmortis and Goliath the Soothsayer. Make me jittery just starting the game.

I don't often play scary video games (mainly because I get scared too easily), but I have had my bad encounters of playing a game my brother recommends that freaked me out. I thought that The Devil May Cry was terrifying, I was just watching the clips before the game starts and there was fake unrealistic blood....but I still screamed. Bioshock was so gory and freaky, definitely had a hard time sleeping at night. Oh and don't get me started on the first appearance of the trolls in Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I always pause the game for atleast an hour before I finally decide to fight it xD

^ Resident Evil scared me too

Strangely enough the first game I ever saw as scary was The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina of Time. Well, the part were you become big Link and those zombie things have over run the town. And the poe things used to frighten me as well... I was young ><

Don't worry about it. Because of that game, I have become traumatized of Wallmasters. When you're young, that game being the first LoZ game you've ever played, and suddenly something falls down and grabs you, you get a permanent scar.
