i searched and there wasn't a thread like this so i decided to make one.recently(say since the new millenium began)rap has gone to dust with all these new rappers, and rock has gotten better.i wanna hear your opinions with pros and cons about rap and rock.to me,they have both

    Rap Pros:

You can express how you feel in poetry form
Eminem-he actually writes his own music that comes from the heart

    Rap Cons:

Rappers these days only rap about money, having sex with girls, girls with a big A** and B**bs
    LIL' WAYNE
    SOULJA BOY
most rappers dont care about their fans
most rappers only care about getting money and "p***y"
most rappers can't even write their own songs

    Rock Pros:

    Incredible bands
    amazing guitar and vocal skills
    bands write their own music
    they care about their fans
they never sing about what most rappers sing about
can be very loud(this fits for both)
DragonForce-simply amazing lyrics and the band overall

    Rock Cons:

can be very loud(this fits for both)
    some bands sing about blood...
can sometimes harldy understand what they're saying

as you can see, rock has more pros than cons, and vise-versa for rap.but, this is only my opinion.i want to hear your pros and cons about these 2 music genres

I'll admit that a lot of the more common rap played on the radio is like this, but I don't believe all of it is.

These are just generalizations which show nothing. The same could be said for other kinds of artists, too. And likewise for the pros in the Rock section. Do all rock artists write their own music, for one? I doubt it.

Personally, I prefer (classic) rock. In general I prefer the lyrics and it's just sort of easier to listen to, if that makes sense. I like the beat of rap music (so there's a pro for your list, I suppose), but usually the only exposure I get to rap is on the radio and I don't care for the lyrics (though I tend to sing 'em anyway- damn songs get stuck in my head >_<). But I think every genre of music has its pros and cons. I think that's an individual thing to decide and might even change on a daily basis. I know I personally tend to want to hear different sorts of music depending on my mood and I reckon other people are similar.

I guess I didn't really do what you asked, but I can't really just separate it out like that. Even within just one genre, I can't generalize it enough to make a good pro or con list.

These are two very different genres of music, and to be honest, I love rock and am not into rap so you may notice some bias in this.

    Rap Pros:

Some artist can write some meaninful songs, I used to listen to "Slim Shady" back in the day. Not into his new stuff but hey, what can you do?
Rap is a different style of poetry (most music can be considered as such), therefore it's an expression of oneself, which is always a good thing.

    Rap Cons:

I don't understand the lyrics most of the time. Sounds like gibberish.
Some songs are written about some nasty business, well more like dirty business. But to be honest, how many songs aren't? It just feels more apparent in this genre.
I'm not into the beat of most rap songs, it feels 'awkward' to listen to.
Not into the tone quality of most of the rappers these days, such as Lil Wayne. He sounds raspy.
Side note: Rappers are associated often with a negative persona, since you know, it's that hard to wear a belt?

    Rock Pros:

Some of the best bands out there are rock bands. (Older ones are the better ones)
Amazing guitar solos, special shout out to Slash and Jimi Hendrix. Pure legends.
Songs are easy to listen to, not hard on the ears, and are all a work of art.
Some bands had great vocal talents like Led Zeppelin with Robert Plant and Queen with Freddie Mercury -RIP-.
A lot of 'upbeat' songs, but there's also some slower paced ones which all have there own unique qualities.
I actually understand all of the words/what the artist is saying. The lyrics are also have a lot of soul and meaning to them.
    Great in general to listen to (;

    Rock Cons:

I have issues with raspy voices *cough cough* lead singer of Metallica *cough cough* AC/DC too, I wish they would have auto-tuned them. My ears bleed at the sound of their voices, I never even bothered to look up who the singer are.
    --That's all for me.

  4. Remedy

    Remedy Remnant

Rap Pros: Nice beat, Cool electronic sounds at times.

Rap cons: a lot of foul language and normally promotes drugs and S** (for the younger kids on the site)

Rock Pro's: Cool guitar and vocals can often be cool( i like screaming a tiny bit) the drums definetly define the songs sound. The songs are often written by the bands themselves

Rock Cons: Can get old and repetitive, also talk much about drugs but a lot less then rap talks about S**

  5. Goldfish

    Goldfish Cats in the Cradle

And what about Rap/Rock? Like Rage Against The Machine =P

I'm more of a fan of Rock than rap, but I do listen to both. Like you've mentioned, both have pros and cons. I dislike some a lot of Rock artists/bands and I also dislike a lot of Rap artists/groups. At the same time I like a lot of both.
it really depends on who you are listening to.

    Rap Pros
    Beastie Boys
    Niggers with Attitude attitude
    Jurassic 5
    Cypress Hill
    Chiddy Bang

    Rap Cons
    Souljah Boy
    Lil Wayne
    (lil) Bow Wow

    Rock Pros
    Fleshgod Apocalypse
    The Beatles
    The Doors
    The Ramones
    The Sexpistols
(this list could go on, only because I know a number of great rock bands)

    Rock Cons
    My Chemical Romance
    Panic! at the Disco
    Jonas Brothers
(Again list could go because I know a number of rock bands)

And this is all preference as well. It's impossible to list what's good and what's bad for everyone.

    Rap Pros:
The good songs are easy to bear, and pretty BA, as are the good artists.
Easier to find the groove to it; makes good accompaniment for workouts and such.

    Rap Cons:
Good artists and good songs are generally harder to find.

    Rock Pros:
Wider pool of sub-genres from which to draw interests (classic rock, metal, progressive, etc).
Have the greater propensity for complex music (ie - odd time signature, more advanced progressions).
Has yielded a great number of talented musicians, especially when it comes to instruments.
Has certainly pioneered the most advancement in music in terms of theory and its applications.

    Rock Cons:
Can get a bit hard on the ears after a while
Unfortunately, there are quite a few talented rock singers that opt to scream their lyrics, in effect, compromising their voice (IE - Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch. Great voice, but most of their songs, he screams through).
Progress in the genre seems to have slowed from where it was through the sixties and seventies.
Especially in the rock genre, it seems that industry has taken a large wealth of control over who gets known and who doesn't. Many talented artists go unknown, while those who, at the very least display little talent, get the limelight.
