really sad, even more so because i live there.

this is why we will not have nice things in the future, people should not do this because it does not give them more options for the future, and makes them learn less.

Hmm. I don't approve of this class assignment- it's one thing to assign someone to take a stance in a debate (or in an essay) that is not their own, but making someone sign their name to something they don't believe in, regardless of the topic, and then (I assume) mail the letters isn't cool. But I think this amendment will be abused by students who don't feel like doing work, and I have a lot of feels about religion in public schools (i.e. I don't think it has a place, with a few exceptions).

And I think this could easily lead to discrimination for non-Christians. But I suppose people could still surprise me.

And while I have no problem with schools having a moment of silence for students to use to pray if they wish, I hope they're not reading prayers over the intercoms or anything, 'cause I think that's inappropriate. And I'm sorry, but if 80% of the people in the state are Christians, who exactly is targeting them?

And why is this amendment even needed if the rights it protects are already protected by the Bill of Rights/Constitution?

This amendment doesn't make them learn less. It gives them the opportunity to learn less. Which, by the way, if somebody wants to do so let them. They are only screwing themselves over.

I agree. That kinda seems like an abuse of power on the instructor's side.

I don't think they'd do prayers over the intercom. And as for who is targeting them, probably all the anti-Christians and anti religious people who do target Christians (Nationwide).

Possibly for more detailed protection. This example probably won't come up in schools in Missouri, but I could see Islamic kids using this law so they can pray during those times they're supposed to (As opposed to myself imagining people from stopping them from praying just because it would be interrupting class time).

I think it's ridiculous for the majority to claim being persecuted by the minority.

I still think it seems redundant. If people felt their rights were being violated, they could still appeal to the federal constitution. Even with this new amendment, prayer can still be stopped if people feel it is disturbing the peace.

Somehow I can't see these people really wanting to extend the same courtesy to the Islamic kids and other minorities. Those'll be "disturbing the peace." If you look at the actual amendment, it uses the term "Almighty God", which sounds awfully Christian to me.
