Somewhat trigger warning. Explicit content briefly touched up on. Don't read if easily offended or bothered or triggered by sexual assault/rape.

I'm sure this movie is old, and yet I am just seeing it recently.

I do not recommend this movie.

It wasn't bad, by all means. It had the good message to send out and it was very effective in giving out this message. But if you are in any way a weak stomach and absolutely cannot stand the sight or sound of sexual assault/rape.

    Don't watch this movie.

I've never been able to watch anything in movies that involve sexual assault without feeling a pit in my stomach, but due to a recent past event in my life, I absolutely wasn't prepared for this scene. It didn't show anything graphic apart from post scene his hand is covered in blood. But just awkwardly sitting there knowing what's going on and it going on for as long as it did. You just basically watch the life drain out of this girl. It's horrible and I was in a state of anxiety for honestly a couple days after that.

If you've been a victim of sexual assault, don't watch this movie. Or at least that scene. I should have listened to my boyfriend when he specifically told me not to watch it alone, but you know me. Stubborn and adamant and I was going to watch this movie.

    Alone.

    Horrible experience.

The ending of the film was however, still the worst gut wrenching thing. It's not the most graphic. But the concept really just makes you feel so uneasy and uncomfortable. It lasts for about 15 minutes I believe. And then the movie is over after that.

By far, the sexual assault scene was the worst to handle. At least for me, it happens about shortly after the 1 hour mark.

If you're curious and want to see this movie, there's plenty of streams who offer it online. It took me a good 3 minutes maybe to find a playable version.

Has any one else seen this movie by any chance? If so, thoughts?

I haven't seen the entire movie (I missed some of the beginning), but I've seen probably most of it, including the last 20-odd minutes. I suppose in theory, I should applaud the movie for trying to warn the world of the dangers of the internet (but should anyone need that warning anymore? Should be common sense that you shouldn't meet up with a stranger alone, even for a young teen back in 2011 when the film was released), but I don't think a good message should excuse an otherwise not very well made movie. The found footage gimmick is ridiculous in most movies because it forces people to film things that no person would bother filming. The acting was not great, to say the least. And the writing- the police in this film are apparently completely incompetent, because one, why wouldn't they have interviewed Amy when Megan first disappeared, when she could have told them about "Josh" back when they might have had a chance to find her alive (and it shouldn't have been that hard to track him down through his IP address or whatever sciencebabble), and two, real cops would never have released the name and image of a minor child who was a witness/informant to the media to broadcast straight to the killer. Police investigations hold back information all of the time, and they wouldn't have put Amy in such a dangerous position. So with all that, I suppose my suspension of disbelief was pushed to the max and I had trouble taking it all seriously.

As far as the ending goes, I found it disturbing only because real people have been in similar situations and I feel empathy for them when thinking about that. I didn't find the actual scenes really all that shocking, probably because I didn't find the acting that convincing and the fact that the killer was filming the whole thing (only to discard the evidence in an easy to find spot) was too ridiculous. I'm not huge on horror films, but I read a lot of crime thrillers, and I've read more realistic and disturbing books that affected me much more than this film did. I agree with Kairi that a sexual assault survivor should be wary, however. That particular scene doesn't show much, but it's clear what's going on and could be triggering.

So overall, I also would not recommend this movie, not because of the violence, but just because it's not a well made film.

Edited to add that because of the sexual content throughout the film, you can't even show it to the preteens or young teens who need the "be careful of the internet, stranger danger" message the most. Fail.
