Leon jerked awake. He looked around, very disoriented. The room around him was mostly empty, with a few empty shelves and boxes around him. He felt dizzy, and his neck hurt, like there was a welt there, almost as though someone had stabbed a needle in him. Leon went to get up, and realized that his hands were shackled together. He glanced back behind him, and saw that the man he had just saved was chained to him. He was asleep. “Hey. Hey, wake up.” Leon said.
The stranger jerked awake. He stretched, yawned, then said “Ay-yi-yi… crawl out of one hole, and into another.”. He had nappy, shoulder-length brown hair and was dressed rather nicely, almost as if he were rich.
Leon cautiously asked, “Where are we?”.
The stranger looked up and asked, “Americano, si? Now what brings a bloke like you to this part of the world?”. Leon twisted his hands to reach into his back pocket. In doing so, he pulled the chains around the stranger’s wrists, causing them to dig in. He responded sharply to the pain. “Hey, hey, easy… whoever you are….”.
Leon pulled a picture out of his pocket. “Sorry. Name’s Leon. I came here looking for this girl. Seen her?”. He flipped the picture of Ashley Ghram around so the man could see it.
He glanced down at it. “What, are you some kind of cop or something?” he asked.
“Maybe.” Leon said with no eye contact with the stranger.
The stranger chuckled slightly under his breath and looked up at the ceiling. “Okay, let me guess. She’s the President’s daughter?” he said.
Leon jerked his head back to look at the man. “That’s too good for a guess. Wanna’ start explaining?” he said snappily.
The man paused for a second, then said, “Psychic powers.”. Leon just stared at him. “Nah, I’m just kidding with you, amigo. I overheard one of the villagers talking something about the President’s daughter in the church.” he said, laughing.
Leon sighed, then asked, “So, who are you, anyway?” he asked.
“Me lammo Luis Sera. I used to be a cop in Madrid. But now, I’m just a good for nothing guy, who also happens to be quite the ladies man.”.
“Why’d you quit?” Leon questioned, curious.
Luis answered, “Stupid Policia… you put your life on the line, but nobody really respects you enough for it. Being the hero isn’t what it’s all cracked up to be anymore….”.
Leon laid his head back. “I used to be a cop once. Only for a day, though.”.
Luis slightly glanced back at him. “I thought I was bad.”.
Leon cautiously responded, “Somehow I got caught up in the incident at Raccoon City, on my first day.”.
“That’s the incident with the viral outbreak, right? I think I might’ve saw a sample of the virus back at a lab at the department-” Luis was cut short by the door slamming open. A bloody villager carrying an overly large axe came stumbling through. He slowly started to walk towards Leon and Luis, moaning. Luis, trying to work his way out of the chains, exclaimed, “Do something, cop!”.
Leon snapped back, “After you!”. The villager raised the axe. Leon yelled, “Now!”. Just as the axe swung down, Leon and Luis spread as far away from each other as they could. The axe destroyed the chain, freeing them. The villager focused on Leon. Just as he lunged, Leon used his foot to flip the villager against the wall. His neck broke upon contact. Luis, scared at the near loss of his life, ran as fast as could away from the building. Leon, realizing it was futile to chase after him, he pulled out his radio and contacted Hunnigan.
