Kingdom Hearts Stuff From E3

So as we all got some excitement from E3 Kingdom Hearts related(and E3 isn't officially over until June 17th, so there may be more) As I have been tuning into Game Stop on the live cam tour hoping for some info pick up maybe from the square enix staff on things, but and Mike Hunt has been working hard looking into many different details such as Kingdom Hearts 3DS, and Shadow has been working hard on finding info, we have 3 new things to share with you guys (thanks axel545 for this)

Q. In what ways does KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep differ from the previous KINGDOM HEARTS titles?

A. KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep is set the furthest in the past in the series. You could even call it “KINGDOM HEARTS 0”. Players will unravel mysteries in the KINGDOM HEARTS storyline by playing through the perspectives of each of the three new characters . Also, each installment in the KINGDOM HEARTS series introduces a new system, and in this title we introduce new features such as the “Command Deck,” which all contribute to bring a tense and exciting battle experience.

Q. What, if any, were some challenges you faced in bringing KINGDOM HEARTS to the PSP?

A. Since we included a variety of multiplayer modes, we faced some difficulties in keeping the PSP systems synced during wireless play.

Q. Aside from multiplayer functionality, what special considerations were given to the title to take advantage of the PSP?

A. The visual capability of the PSP enabled us to give the game a finish that is on par with the numbered titles that were released on the PS2.

Q. Why did you decide to let players go through three separate scenarios instead of one scenario incorporating the three main characters’ points of view?

A. Everything is part of one big story, and there is only one final destination. Fans of the series who already know what happens beyond KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep may be able to predict where the three are headed. I thought that separating the story into three perspectives, and having the player choose the order of progression would deepen the mystery, making the journey all the more interesting. Even if you complete one character’s story, you’ll find yourself even more curious as to what happens to the other two, and become eager to see how everything comes to a close.

Q. How are the three main characters’ personalities reflected in their combat styles?

A. Terra is very protective of the other two, so his combat style is all about power. Ven is full of curiosity and mischief, so he’s very fast. Aqua excels at magic, which stems from her inner strength and elegance.

Q. Are there any Disney worlds that you were particularly excited to include in this installment? If so, what aspects of them appealed to you?

A. I was looking forward to introducing the worlds of Cinderella, Princess Aurora, and Snow White. I had always wanted to incorporate them into the series, but wasn’t able to until this entry, which I feel is perfect, story-wise. It definitely is a lot of fun to run around the classic Disney worlds recreated in 3D. I couldn’t help but make these some of the first worlds that players could visit.

Q. The three main characters visit the same Disney worlds, but you see different angles to those worlds’ stories. Can you tell us about how you decided to present different vantage points within the same Disney world?

A. While each of the three characters has a unique personality, you are still playing three separate scenarios, so it wouldn’t be any fun if their stories go down the same path. It should be interesting to see how one’s actions affect the stories of the other two, encouraging players to look forward to visiting the same worlds with each character,

Q. Can you tell us about some of the thoughts behind the addition of new features for the North American release?

A. We try to offer something new because so much time has passed since the Japanese release, and a lot of fans already know all about the Japanese version through the internet. This is something we did for every numbered title in the series, and because we consider KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep an equivalent to a numbered title, we’ve added a few new elements.

Q. What are your thoughts regarding players who are new to the series picking this title up, with this title being set as the prequel to the series?

A. The series has continued so long thanks to the fans, and its story has become very vast and complicated. That is the greatest appeal of this series, but also what may make it difficult for newcomers to jump in. We of course consider first-time players when developing each installment, but the games were always part of a single timeline, and some players couldn’t quite get into the games because they felt out of touch with the rest of the story. Because KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep is positioned at the very beginning of the storyline and introduces all-new characters, I personally felt a sense of freedom much like when I was developing KINGDOM HEARTS . I think this is great timing for those who are looking for a way into the series .

Q. Is there anything you paid attention to in particular when creating the story for KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep, especially in consideration for those who will be new to the series?

A. Nothing in particular. I don’t think that the element of choosing between the three characters differentiates this title too much from the other titles in the series. No matter which installment you decide to play from, the story is headed in the same direction, so deciding which character to start with is essentially the same as choosing which title in the series to start with. The only difference is in the order in which you discover things about the story, and it’s fun to think that there are so many ways to make sense of it all.

Q. What message do you hope that KINGDOM HEARTS fans will take away from the story of KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep?

A. That’s something I would like for players to find out for themselves. The theme shared throughout the series is “heart,” and that’s something intangible. “Connection ” is the theme in KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep, and that’s also something that can’t be seen with your eyes. The connection between people, the connection of destinies; there are many different types, and I hope that players can feel these intangible ideas.

Now something I was watching was the Game Spot Live Cam tour, while on the tour, the camera person started recording a trailer of Coded with exclusive looking Re:Coded game play, but he was kicked out of recording it. I can only hope someone has footage of that trailer that I can find on the web later tonight, but you can definatelt it's something exclusive because it's not part of the other videoes on the E3 Square Enix site. I'll keep you up to date when I get more on that.

As excited as I am for Birth By Sleep... the voice acting is AWFUL. They all sound like they were boringly reading from a script, with zero emotion. That's gonna kill me.

Apparently there's a secret trailer for this new mystery game, but is kept hidden away from the public. Someone attending E3 through IGN has however seen the video, no fotage unfortunately, but here's the article...

Here at E3 2010 there's like a hojillion 3DS titles. Most of them are new titles, though a few seem to be 3D ports of older games. On the third party side, Square Enix was showing off a video for Kingdom Hearts 3D. Sora's back, beyotches!

So it was just a trailer so it's hard to tell, but I think this might be a port of the original PS2 game, or at least a reimagining of it. The trailer starts off with Sora and Riku sitting out by the starfruit tree on Destiny Islands. Then Riku disappears in a swirling flash of light. Sora calls after him and runs around the island (the game switches to gameplay here).

Sora runs through the island a bit, showing off the locale. It looks exactly like it did in the PS2 game. The thing that makes me think it's not a port is that Sora already has the glide ability, which he uses to soar around the island a bit.

The game cuts again and shows Riku waking up Traverse Town (the main hub world of the PS2 game). He goes into a courtyard and is surrounded by a bunch of Heartless. Then he looks up and stuff gets crazy.

The sky starts raining Soras.

No seriously. A dozen unconscious Soras slowly float down from the sky like a cute boy meteor shower.

One of the Soras lands and busts out his Keyblade. The game switches back to gameplay mode here and shows Sora bashing the Heartless. After all the Heartless are defeated a huge soldier Heartless boss rises from the ground. Before Sora can battle him he snaps awake, back on Destiny Islands, sitting with Kairi by the starfruit tree. The camera pans up to the night sky and shows the title screen, Kingdom hearts DS.

Graphically it looks amazing, though it's hard to tell if this is totally legit, or if even the gameplay is really a cutscene. The island, and even Traverse Town look good in 3D, and the possibilities for the game are promising (the Gummi ship levels could finally be cool in 3D).

There are a few screens in the gallery, and we'll get more news on the game as soon as we can.

Hey sorry Bankai didn't realise lol.

I kind of agree, there's not to much emotion, like Aqua's tone doesn't change at all like with the cinderalla scene if I were a voice actor I'd try to make myself sound a little more embarassed because it's obvious the way the artwork is, it was meant to be an emebarasment scene, but the voice actress didn't do much to make it that way.

I don't know maybe the rest of the game will be a little better than the trailer, we can only hope.

Agreed. Most of the actors sound like they're completely devoid of any emotion, at least so far. I'm a little surprised at Terra. IMDB has Christian Bale listed as his voice, and while I'm probably the only person on the planet who hasn't seen The Dark Knight (despite owning it), I thought he did a nice job voicing Howl in Howl's Moving Castle. Here, not so much. And I've mentioned in some other thread that I think Master Xehanort sounds completely terrible. Everyone else was pretty 'meh'.

But, I'm glad to see Mark Hamill as Master Eraqus. He always seems to do such an awesome job- his role as the Joker is acclaimed, and for all that his character was one-dimensional, I thought he did a great job on Avatar: TLA, too.

And this line from the trailer is pure win: "Exactly what I said, idiot." XD

Yeah, I'm VERY dissapointed in Leonard Nemoy as far as xehanort goes. And Christian Bale is terra? really?

^That's according to IMDB, which isn't always accurate, but the voice does sound a lot like I remember Howl's sounding, and I know he voiced him.

Favorite line ever, if I wasn't a hige KH Fan, I'd buy the game just to see that scene, lol.

You know though, that was probably the best scene for it.

coolio info, i hate Master X's voice, i expected to be more dark and deep and evil. KH3d really wats the stroy line there? is it like a coded? or are they just making it? i tried lookin for some info, couldn't find much. I'm okay with vens and aquas voice myself, not the best but they'll do.

Because of the similarities in development concept, performance and design to the PS2, so they feel it would be the perfect platform. So basically they picked a system to which they could use similar design choices to what they did in past titles.

Will you look more into the past of Kingdom Hearts, e.g. The Keyblade War?

They have base concepts for the past, which they look into in BBS, but no plans for a new prequel, or anything about the Keyblade War, at least not at the moment. He's always thinking about the next title while in production of the current one The end of BBS will give players more interest in what will happen next in the story.

Does this mean there will be a sequel to BBS?

He said it was "Difficult to reveal now". So he was basically saying, something is in the works, there is just not announcement now.

What are the Differences between the Japanese and Western version?

He said there were too many changes to list them all now, but there will be exclusive hidden bosses, overall difficultly will be ramped up when compared to the Japanese version along with the addition of a harder difficultly mode 'Critical Mode'. New keyblades and more music for the music mini-game.

Why will the game be harder?

When Japanese play Western games in their point of view our games are far more difficult for them. He says this is because the ration of casual players is much higher in Japan. So they have changed the difficulty to keep up with western expectations. He also goes onto say that the Hidden Boss shown in the English trailer was tested in Japan. Those testing it said afterwards, that they found it so hard they will never try it again.

Is that Hidden Boss a member of Org XIII?

It's a secret. Basically keeping the same mystery all KH hidden bosses have.

Will there be a BBS: Final Mix?

No plans at the moment. Though after seeing the new trailer Japanse fans are arguing about the extras we are getting in the West. But at the same time he isn't sure how many of them could actually stand the difficulty.

This just in or maybe not, but according to gamestop live cam tour, BBS is going to offer more in the North American game, not Japan. In the North America game there will be more bosses, more mini games, and jsut more!

MX's is really... Creepy. Wasn't what I was expecting at all.
And Aqua's was also dissapointing. I expected her to sound younger.

Alright so doing my searches on our new Kingdom Hearts E3 stuff and found a few things you all might be interested in...

This first article from IGN is one of the IGN members just explaining the demo he played at E3 on BBS, he's playing at BBS, and doing further researches(or just simply watching the trailer) you do not surf on a giant keyblade, instead you're just on the old fasion sort of gumi ship thing that isn't a gumi ship. (for better picture those of you that know Code Lyoko and they're little transportation things, Odd I believe it was had a surf board sort of thing and I know in BBS Terra rides on something similar to I think Yumi's transportation thing in Code Lyoko, just to help you picture it)...
E3 2010: Kingdom Hearts Introduces Keyblade Surfing - PlayStation Portable Preview at IGN

My demo of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep took me by surprise. I knew that the Kingdom Hearts series can get a little ridiculous, but immediately after I unpaused the game to start playing, I found my main character surfing on a massive keyblade through the blazing light of subspace. A giant jellyfish creature fought my character as the two hurtled through the depths of oblivion, where I attempted desperately to best my opponent while orienting myself.

When I asked the representative at the kiosk what was happening, he just noted that this was the way I got to the next level. That's an epic way to get to the next level.

During this section of the demo, I was controlling the character Ventus -- one of the new characters in Birth by Sleep. Ventus was traveling to the world called "Deep Space," which I couldn't place at first because it was just that: the vastness of space, and a massive ship drifting through the starry void. Once Ventus entered the ship, however, things started making sense. This was a level inspired by Disney's Lilo & Stitch, as the adorable little alien (Stitch) was being held captive by the race of creatures controlling the ship.

When Stitch and Ventus meet up, the unlikely pair discovers that they have mutual friends in Terra and Aqua (two other new characters to Birth by Sleep), so Ventus attempts to fight through the enemy hordes in an effort to escape.
Getting behind the controls of an English version of Kingdom Hearts was really great. This was only my second time playing Birth by Sleep, and the first time that I could understand the title's somewhat familiar interface.

Players attack by hitting the X button, jump with the Circle button and dodge with the Square button. As was the case with previous Kingdom Hearts games, there's a small menu on the lower left section of the screen with available commands. This time around, however, the attack command is listed below a rotating set of additional techniques, which I assume players can customize at some point in the game. These techniques have a cool down period, but once available, players just hit Triangle to use the selected attack. Once used, it looks like the rotation automatically advances, which means players can easily chain one technique into another.

After a few battles with what are apparently called the Unversed, I discovered that the Attack command is replaced by a "Finish" move when an enemy is weakened. This results in a flashy combo which was a very satisfying way to finish off the baddy in question.

The second level I played in Birth by Sleep took place in the Castle of Dreams, which is the world dedicated to Disney's Cinderella. In this section of the game, players take control of the skilled and admittedly lovely Aqua. Although my time playing as Aqua was brief, I definitely appreciated the flashy nature of her special attacks. Burning Surge caused Aqua to rush forward, encased in a shell of lethal energy. Aerial Slam, another attack, starts with Aqua launching the targeted enemy into the air. Players need to follow-up with a press of the Triangle button to begin an aerial combo.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep feels fantastic and as a hardcore follower of the franchise, I will consume anything with a keyblade. Considering how cool the new characters look and how you surf on giant keys, I'd say Birth by Sleep could be a welcome addition to the PSP's library.

Now next is nothing to much and nothing we don't already know for kingdom hearts, it's just that Square Enix has stated in the future they will be releasing titles on the Nitendo 3DS for Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and of course we all know, Kingdom Hearts.

That's just about it for now, but news isn't stop here, be ready for more incoming news as E3 continues,and remeber tomorrow is the last day of E3.

This kinda made me all upset that the voice acting is bad, but you know at least they tried it.... Im still gonna buy it, I mean the voice doesn't make the game but it will get super annoying have to hear those over and over. lol

Alright I found one last interview/ article you all will be interested in, but sadly it's not the greatest. This is probably all we'll find for this year's E3 at this points I'm finding the samething over and over so here it is

Shortly after the Nintendo 3DS news I met with Tetsuya Nomura, Director of the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Right away, I asked him, “What can you tell us about Kingdom Hearts 3DS?”

Nomura snickered a bit.

“Right now we can’t say much about it,” he replied. “All I can say is that the Kingdom Hearts for 3DS will not be a port, but a new game. “It will probably be developed by the team who was in charge of Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, the Osaka team.”

The Kingdom Hearts games on the Nintendo DS, 358 / 2 Days and Re:coded, were developed by h.a.n.d. who also developed Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales. Kingdom Hearts 3DS will be developed internally at Square Enix.
