I think the reason why roleplays have not been doing well is because of these reasons. I suffer through all of these symptoms.

    1) Lack of innovative plot line. We have created Kingdom Hearts-esque scenarios time and time again. We need something fresh. This happens, even in the original roleplays....

    2) Character designs as of late have been weak and mary suing comes to play.

    3) Pure lack of interest of roleplays but that can be expected because of the previous reasons.

Unless my comment fits into reason #3, there is also the fact that people just stop posting in RPs all of the sudden.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, ALL THESE FAWKING STORIES HAVE BEEN DONE BEFORE. Nothing we have EVER done on this site is very original. So, that part about 'innovative plot line' is bull. I can personally guarantee that for each plot that is developed here, there is at least two others on Quizilla. It is the way we make the stories happen that makes them different. And I have no idea as what you mean by character designs.

Well, I've had a few which have been pretty different like Powers?.

It has been a year since the events of the original roleplay. Alex remains in the realm between Earth and Yuleania, looking after both worlds and keeping them in balance but Yuleania is suffering. There is a great social turmoil across the broad magical world. The King, Sulfurus, has been issuing many taxes onto his people and issuing death sentences onto the people who cannot pay. It is unlike him but the population have had enough of what they call a "tyrant". They are looking for other groups or resistances to fight against the king and the one group that has stood out is the Malefestarians, a group who is dedicated to the lord, who was killed on Earth and ofcourse, they are looking for ways of bringing him back. The Malefestarians though do not share their real intentions and tell the people that they are a resistance group who want to overthrow the King. They have gained thousands of soldiers from across the world and they are ready to takeover the King and gain ultimate control of the land. The monarchy is not aware of this and are vulnerable for attack. Our heroes also are not aware of this group.

Leah, Aiden and Alexis have been scowering across Yuleania for a way to get Alex back and they are also royal guards of the King, despite not agreeing with his actions. They think there is something wrong with him. Before Aiden and Leah left, the King was a kind soul and he was also very giving. This has confused the guards for a long time but they go on errends that the King bestows upon them.

On Earth, rips in the air have appeared and these rips have allowed animals from the Earth to enter Yuleania; even humans. The darkness from last year has affected the strength of the boundaries. Alex knows that soon, the worlds would counteract and form together but with that, he knows there will be destruction. Alex still tries to remain in control but he is failing both Yuleania and Earth. He feels himself weaken from time to time and his energy is sapped often. Are the worlds destined to be doomed and will they ever bring back Alex?

That is the plot from Powers II. Let me Tropitize it.

A Continuation of the first Powers, the Guardian Of The Multiverse is failing at his duties, and the time is in a Era of Turmoil. The Evil overlord has been Evil Overlording while the People are searching for a Ragtag Group of Heroes to save the day. A Hidden Threat is a Ragtag Group of Misfits. . .

I could go on. Point is, you people* should stop bitching about "Oh, none of it is ORIGINAL". Like I said, it isn't how things start that defines it, it's how things work as it happens.

*Meaning everybody who has at one point or another done this.

If you're not going to post a valid point, Sora, then don't post at all.

Alex is a normal boy raised up in New York and he goes to Libera High School. It is the first day of school, after the Christmas Holidays. It was supposed to be a usual day at school but as the day goes on, he has acted very strange. Fire appears from his fingers, in random moments and when he sneezes, everyone's tests in the classroom were blown away onto the floor. He doesn't know what is happening and he also doesn't know that his classmates have powers too.
Meanwhile, someone is after these strange powers and would kill anyone, who gets in his/her way, while someone is trying to protect the people who have powers. Will the person protecting the people with the powers come in time or will the villain get to one of them first?

    I'll tropitize this instead.

Anti-Hero as Loser is an Average Joe in Big City USA going to Generic High School. After the holidays, he starts a seemingly usual day when (as an Ass Pull) gains Puberty Superpower! His friends turn out to be the Chosen Many. Then a You Will Be Assimilated Villain shows up. Sylar, anyone? In a race to the finish, blah blah blah.

In the background, there is a Magical Land, and the Power of Friendship will save the day.

Have I made my point, YET?

yes you have...but I think that's when we were the most creative with our posts. Anyway, I'm about to read the rp skillage sheets, lol.

So in essence you're confirming what I've already said. Fan freaking tastic.

And by that, I meant the "Ooooh posts were BETTER"

Like I said, it doesn't matter how "Done" the plot seems, it is how the plot is DONE.

DAAAANG! This what was going on during my absence? NEVER FEAR! SUMMONERBWM WILL BE THERE!! Anyways, you shouldn't worry sorabrawl. I think that some people have to take their creativities up a notch. That's all.

Hey, now both of you stop arguing. Point is...

As nothing is original, not even that second roleplay you pointed out, every idea usually comes from another that comes from another. Stories are sort of like trees with branches branching out everywhere, usually the stump of the tree is based off of some old Human legend story. The best thing I can think of that the super power ideas would have branched off of is the story of Hurculeus.

Very rarely do you find someone who does think outside the box and actually does come up with an original story idea, but what happens then, nobody joins the roleplay, because they don't like it. It's not because they don't like it, it's just they don't recognize the story plot idea, so in human nature, they would feel uncomfortable, mentally not even realising it, joing that roleplay.

Now what makes a roleplay original? The different twists people put on the roleplay with different characters and the such. That's what makes a roleplay original and unique, and THIS is the problem, THIS is why roleplays aren't fun anymore.

Over the past year people have gotten extremely lazy. Now there's going to be that one guy who will argue me about that, but let me put it this way. I've been gone an entire year, left during active time of roleplaying to now a dead time in roleplaying. Now what I'm sure has been happening but when I left I just didn't notice is, after a while we've all gotten lazy. Now why is this? Because most of us are growing up. Now what does this mean? It means we're loosing our creative thinking. If you were to put an adult and say a 6 year old child in a room togeather and give them time to come up with a story, the adult would probably come up with a plain basic boring story, where the child would come up with this huge extraordinary story that would be much more unique.

Now the point of that is a child's creativity is the best key in the world to write stories on, meaning creativity is the key. Now as most of us have gotten older, we're loosing that creative touch. That there is our key, to making roleplays interesting again.

Now moving along the scale to the next point to help with roleplays, something I can guarantee you requem will be the first one to argue me about this. Back when most of us would say roleplaying is interesting is back when Hope or myself were roleplay mods, now what's that got to do with anything? Lots, for one we were more flexible(and more involved which doesn't mean anything). Now more flexible, what do I mean by that? We didn't go posting in roleplays saying, you're breaking the rules that your post should be 6 lines when the post has maybe 5 1/2 lines.

I'm talking flexibility on the rules. Now if we were to be following the rules strictly on everything in the world, the world would be one boring place. There would be no creativity because it would be too strict on what you could and what you couldn't. The one rules that must be broken some and really flexible on is deffinately the ammount of line posts.

I see soooo many people adding things to their posts that are absolutely pointless to their posts to give them more length. By adding that extra stuff it causes people to post next a little more tighter on what they can do in their post. Now let me show you an example...

"Well we need a plan." Ben suggested. He looked up at the sky and back at Bob before an idea suddenly popped into his head. "Hey! Why don't we get everyone on the island in on this? We can invite everyone!"

Now notice how the post above isn't 3 lines. However, the next poster could add much more onto it and add more of a twist and stuff onto it such as...

Bob instantly got excited about the idea. "Yeah, then the minute everyone's in on it, surely we'll suceed on the plan." Bob exclaimed happily.

Now let me show you the same exact posts with stuff added to them to make them the full length...

"Well we need a plan." Ben suggested. He looked up at the sky and he scratched his head. Before he looked back at Bob he sighed and tried thinking again, that's when it hit him. Bob had an idea suddenly pop into his head. "Hey! Why don't we get everyone on the island in on this? We can invite everyone!" He stated excidely before jumping down to the beach and looking around for people to invite.

Now the next poster has much more they must work around on what they are doing.

It's not the greatest example(since I'm so used to adding twists to stories in my plots anyways).

But point is roleplay mods need to be a little less strict on things and learn to be flexible. They need to learn when to step in(places such as power playing and really bad god mods).

Now I can go on continuing to name things to make things much better, but I'm exhausted and the biggest thing was already named. The biggest thing that needs fixed is creativity in posts.

Now to approach the things that sorabrawl has mentioned...

    1. Already mentioned: Not that the basic story needs changed but twists needed add on which can be done by every single individual roleplayer weather you are the creator or not

    2. Again goes with creativity, but even then some mary sue may actually help(as long as you're not going extrordinarily into being a complete mary sue) now and then it helps with coming up with creative ideas if the character is sort of like you. What really should be done to help this is writers put themselves in the character(but beggars can't be choosers)

    3. again this has to do with not so much that but people are just lazy

    That's pretty much it.

Dawn, I respect you as a colleague, but that second to last thing you mentioned is utter bullshit. Mary-sueism is the OPPOSITE of good roleplaying! To top it off, 'writers putting themselves into their character' is EXACTLY the reason we're in this mess. Always seeing the SAME EXACT characters in the same kinds or different kinds of roleplays. Take Sora for example. Recently, he's been enlightened as to this occurrence and is now trying to play other kinds of characters other than the weak-ish goof.

As for the matter of the twists, twists should only be added with the creator's blessing. Otherwise, we would end up with. . . erg. . . "IamyourfatherItwasalljustadreamIamaghostallalong" syndrome. Or a bad M Night movie.

Working backwards onto the matter of the rules, there is a PERFECT way to circumvent that problem of meeting 3 lines without actually breaking the rules! It's called, JOINT POSTING! Basically, two people COLLABORATE on a post via IM or some other means, and they end up with a finished product that is indeed a completely valid post! You kind of said that Dawn, but your meaning wasn't exactly the clearest.

Backwards again, on CREATIVITY! Now, I frequent another forum called Stararmy.com. It is a roleplay site for anyone 16+, and no, it's not because it has dirty things. That I can think of. It has been running for over 10 years. TEN. YEARS. BY ADULTS. So, the main problem isn't that our creativity isn't running low as we get older, it is that you guys limit yourselves too much in that realm. Or something. I don't know, diagnose yourself.

And backwards again, thank you for agreeing with my point. Or at least explaining it better.

No problem, could be clearer(typed most of it while falling asleep last night). For the adult roleplaying site, they're the people who go well and beyond to be creative, I'm talking, as I guess I should have made clearer, stating most of us here are becoming uncreativee because we're lazy to come up with something creative.

  14. GrandShadow

    GrandShadow I accept your challange.

This is the whole deal breaker Ithink. Creative ideas tend to fail here. For example my Tevont RP, that was a very creative idea but so few joined. But now compare it to the Dominion RP, one of the dime-a-dozen, tried and true stories and look how well it's doing. This site seems to be against to much creativity and difference in RPs. Most of the RPers are only bothering with the common ideas or anything KH related.

Another thing is that most people just stop caring mid-RP. Take Land of Magic for example, started great but then came down to only me and Dawn posting. Why is it that some of the greater RPs die out just because people stop posting for no good reason?

  15. Ventus

    Ventus Kickass Keyblader!

I have to admit that Dominion is very common but to be honest guys, RPing to me is just for fun and RPing as someone who I myself do not connect to, is not fun at all. This isn't a job. This is for enjoyment.
