The Story Begins​

And so began the first day of school. Or at least, close to it. Danielle was sitting in the back seat of her families car next to the window. Next to her was her brother Will in the middle seat and her older brother Shawn was next to him on the other window seat. Up front, her mom's boyfriend James was driving and her mom was in the passenger seat, the two were holding hands which only annoyed Danni more. Her mom had insisted on driving the three of them to the train station like their father use to do every year with Shawn before he died. It was supposed to be just the four of them but of course James wanted to come so the family had to come up with some lie that the three siblings were going to a private military school in Alaska for the remainder of the year and James butted himself into comming along for the drive. Danni watched out the window as the houses and cars of London hovered through her field of vision and out of sight behind them. She couldn't wait to get to the train station and get away from her mom and her stupid boyfriend. But of course, James was making that time impossibly slow lecturing the three siblings from the front seat as soon as they entered London.
"Now, you three behave yourselves." he was saying "Its obvious why your mom chose to send you to Alaska. You three have no sense of self control."
"James..." Danni heard her mom saying softly but James kept talking anyway. Danni was fighting the urge to use magic to tighten his necktie just a little bit...
She saw a look on Will's face that suggested he was thinking along the same lines but she couldn't see Shawn without leaning forward. She kept quiet though, biting her tongue and let James continue to make a fool of himself in the front seat.
"Shawn, you be sure to keep an eye on your younger siblings. They'll need your example as their older brother."
"William, if I recieve one letter, ONE, that you are misbehaving in Alaska or get any other notification likewise then I myself will come down there. You dont want that happening."
He turned slightly, looking at Danni with the corner of his eye as he continued to watch the road "Danielle like wise goes to you. And for gods sake child, dont embarass your mother and I out there. You do what you're asked, when you're asked to do it no matter what it is. I dont want a repeat of the fiasco yesterday."
Danni just rolled her eyes. She knew what he was talking about. Yesterday, James had come over to help their mom set up an alarm system in the house. He had asked, of all people, Danni to crawl up into the attic to hand a wire down to him. The attic was too short to stand in, so of course Danni had flashbacks and had an anxiety attack caused by clasterphobia and panic. She saw her mother's embarassed expression in the reirvew mirror and Danni felt a bit angry when her mom said nothing in her defence. She just sat there and kept on holding his hand.
She sighed and looked out the window again, she would rather jump out the window than answer to James.​

 

Danni patiently got out of the car though she felt anything but patient. As soon as she was on the parking lot she wanted to know if possibly someone she knew would be there and she could make the excuse of running off before saying goodbye to her mom and future step father. She nodded to Will gratefully when he handed her her trunk and she looked to Shawn, waiting for him before she would follow Will. She wished her brother's got along better. Heck, she wished her FAMILY got along better and that her real dad was still here to make that possible. She felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to see her mother there "No hug goodbye?" she asked Danielle, looking a bit worn out and upset. Danni sighed and gave her mother a hug. She felt her mom push something into her hand as they pulled away again "That is for you and your brothers in case of emergencies." she whispered, Danni looked into her hand and saw a handful of gold coins had been placed there. Her mom quickly closed Danni’s hand around it “Don’t let your father see them.” she whispered.
Danielle nodded, understanding why her mom didn’t want James to see the money in her hand but she glared at her mother “James Gordon is not my father.” she whispered back.
Her mom sighed and helped Danielle put the money in her bag before pushing her gently toward her brothers “Hurry or you’re going to miss the train.” she said. She walked back to James, who was leaning against the car, and took his hand before she waved to her daughter and two sons “I love you three.” she said while waving “Good luck.”
James walked around the car as their mom called, half pulling her along with him and he opened her door. She got in the car and James didn’t say a word to the three siblings as he walked back around the front of the car and got into the drivers seat. Danielle jumped a little when the car started and the car drove away, leaving the three siblings in the parking lot of the London Train station. Danielle sighed and looked at her two brothers “Charming isn’t he.” she said dully before she turned toward the train station “The train doesn’t leave for another few hours. But We may as well go check in."

 

Danielle sighed "Where would you go, Will?" she said, a bit irritably. "James would hunt you down because mom would cry about it. We're both stuck there until eighteen. Unless we decide to live with Shawn when he decides to move out." she shrugged as she fixed her bag over her sholder and the trio approached the entrence to platform 9 3/4. Danielle looked at her two brothers and gestured to the seemingly solid brick wall "All together?" she suggested, trying to brighten the mood a bit.

 

Danielle smiled and caught up with Will. The three siblings ended up getting through the passage all at once. She couldn't help but smile a bit when she saw the train straight ahead of her. Already feeling a little better after her conversation with her mom and James. She looked at Will "Do you think the others are here yet?" she looked around trying to see Cass, Lisa, or Blake and was a bit disapointed when she didn't. She shrugged "They're probably in the train already. Cass and Blake at least try to show up early." she pointed out as she lead the way toward the train.

 

Danielle shrugged "Yeah, I guess you're right. We may as well check the car that we all usually meet at." she saw him twirling his wand around and smiled a bit "And put that away before you poke someones eye out again." she was teasing him about some incident that happened the year before.
Menwhile the siblings entered the train after checking in. The train was beginning to get full of people all reuniting with their friends and helping new first years already before they even reached the school. Prefects probably.
Danielle did a quick check with her eyes for her friends before she started leading the way through the train, through the other students to 'ther car'. She hoped all of them were ok. She had sent letters out to all of her friends durring the summer, but none of them had responded.

 

As Danni and Shawn and Will got to their usual car, Danni slid the door open and took her bag off of her sholder to put it up on the overhead. She paused when she saw her friend Cassidy was already there. She smiled "Cass!" she said, putting her bag down on the bench and giving her friend a hug "What have you been up to all summer? I tried writing to you but never got an answer." she was mocking a bit of acusation playfully but she was sure he had a reasonable explanation. Menwhile she watched Will stay with her in the car and she wasn't sure of Shawn was going to stay with them or not. He had his own friends and Shawn and Will didn't get along much. She smiled a bit at Will though before she started trying to lift her bag again.

 

Danni smiled a bit at Cass's story. She wasn't suprised. She had only met his parents once and she got the very strong feeling that they disapproved of her. And it hadn't helped the situation at all that when she had met them, she and Cass were at the train station where his parents had come to pick them up and Dannis mom had to wait outside the platform because she was muggle and couldn't cross the barrier... not to mention she and Cass had been playing around on the way home so when they ran into Cassidy's mom outside the train, both of them were covered with paint that Danni had gotten for christams that year from Will and she had started a war with on the train ride home. "You know I think your mom seriously needs to lighten up. Yeah my first impression was strange but I thought blue looked good on you." she teased.
When he asked about her home life, her smile faided "Ugh, I would rather not talk about that right but but I'll fill you in on the details after I'm through with the gag reflex James's name brings up." That basically meant that there was something she wanted to say about it but she wanted to wait until Will was out of the car. She was glad about Will changing the subject. She tried to smile a bit "Uh... no thanks Will. I ate a lot this morning, I'm fine." she said though she reached into her pocket "Mom left me some money out of our inheritence. She told me to take care of it but I figured we would split it three ways so while you're out there can you drop by Shawn's car and give him his share." she saw the disapproving look on his face and pouted a little, a look she could usually use to get her brothers to be a little nicer to her. "Dont be such a brat. He's not going to bite you." she said sarcasticly.

 

Danni didn't feel good about taking money from Cass. The first time he tried to help her financially she had yelled at him, it was their first year. Now she was a bit more leniant about it, he was only trying to help and despite her protests she knew he wasn't going to accept it back. She gave him an grateful nod and then pocketed the money, deciding that she would give it back to him in a more sly way that he wouldn't be able to refuse. She smiled "You know how I feel about charity work but It will come in handy WHEN Will gets himself into trouble and I have to bail him out again." she half smiled. She was about to answer his other question but she saw Will comming back already and sighed "It something I would rather my brothers not know about right now so I'll tell you when we're at school, Ok?" she said. She adjusted her jacket over her sholders before she stepped away from the door and allowing Will space to enter the car. She laughed a little and sat down on one of the benches in the car closest to the window on the right side. "Like I said before, I'm fine, but thanks for keeping me in mind." she said to her brother. She looked at Cass "So as you've said you've been getting my letters so you at least know a little about my summer but I havent the foggiest what You've been up to." she pointed out.
