Things were pretty quiet in the middle of a brisk cold morning. A few birds were already awake filling the treetops with their cheerful songs and a silver fox padded it's way silently along the earth floor, hardly making any sounds as it cleaverly hunted through the trees, its yellow eyes unmoving from a black rabbit across the clearing. Its mouth opened ever so slightly, almost like in a grin as it zeroed in on it's prey. The rabbit totally oblivious.
"NOOO!!!!" the scream came from above, so frightened and alarmed that the rabbits sensitive ears heard it immediately and took off in alarm as well as the fox in the opposite direction. Idasha, who had been asleep on one of the branches of the tree just above the fox and the rabit, was the sourse of the noise. She wasn't paying attention to the fox or the rabbit who'se life she had just saved though. She sat up so quickly she nearly fell off the branch she had been laying on. She had been dreaming again about the past. She could still see the images and faces plainly in her mind. She shook her head and tried to blink the faces out of her memory unsuccessfully. She sat there for a few more minutes before she put her hands down on the branch and pushed herself off, landing lightly on her feet on the ground. She looked around. She saw a very annoyed looking fox a few leagues away and wondered if it had anything to do with her loud awakening that caused it to glare at her so. She laughed a little and said something in her native language that meant basicly "Hello Mr. Fox." before she picked up her bow and arrows, sword, and her pack of belongings and put them over her sholder before she took off walking toward the spring nearby to fill up her water skin and clean herself off a little before continuing on to her destination which was a city called Irift.

Merric was asleep on a pile of animal furs that the merchants had provided to him for being successful in the arena. In his right had sat the hilt of his three inch blade that he constantly had while sleeping. Merric awoke at the sound of footsteps approaching.

Not moving a single muscle except in his had to tighten his grip around the hilt of his dagger Merric lay in wait. Merric saw the shadow of a rather large looking man approach closer and closer to him.
A hand reached over towards Merric's shoulder, In one smooth movement Merric had the intruder pinned to the floor with the dagger laying against his throat.

"Hahaha, As good as ever young Aquila" The man said and he smiled up at Merric.

"Gid?" Merric said standing up and pulling the old gladiator to his feet.

"Gid!, How are you?" Merric said hugging him.

Gidgidgadonhi or Gid for short was the top gladiator when Merric was first sold to the merchants, and therefore he had the responsibility to train the new 'recruits'. Gid was the only man that Merric trusted on the face of the earth to this date.

"I am well young Aquila" The old gladiator told him as he returned his hug.

"What news have you?" Merric said releasing him and holding him an arms length away.

"The merchant leader, he wishes to speak to you"

"What of?" Merric asked. When the Merchant leader asked for a gladiator it either meant that he had done something severely wrong or was been sold on. Merric had been performing exceptionally well recently so it puzzled him as to why he would be called on.

"Worry not my friend, I am sure you will be pleased" Gid said patting Merric on the back and then leading him out of his private quarters.

As wind would whistle through the trees, a lone barbarian girl would travel along her wood, singing a song she had once learned. A barbarian, one could call her - Proof of it would be from her clothes, her wild manner, and her speech, but she was just as smart as the next person. And so, the barbarian named Sumi wandered, singing her song.

    "Ila vec, Ila vec,
    Kurimula sho,
    Ila vec, Ila vec,
    Sumari to!

    Mon ja, Mon ja,
    Ghimari sho,
    Mon ja, Mon ja,
    Ilsamari go!
    "

The meaning of the song was lost to civilization - but then and again, Sumi wasn't civilization. And the girl kept on traveling, singing her tune.

Idasha splashed quite a few handfuls of the cold springwater on her face, trying to wake herself up. She sighed and sat back on the ground as she allowed her now wet hair to cling to the clothes on her back and sides of her face. She had been to the city Irift so many times before it was hard to walk through the streets without being recognised by Empire spies who were still on the lookout for her. But this time she was sure that she knew the location of Irift's temple and the other spirits temples were either too far away, still lost, or places that Idasha didn't want to have to explore any time soon (Cassi. The city she and Merrik tried to escape from). Just the thought of having to go back to one of the main sorces of her nightmares didn't bring Idasha an easy feeling. She shook her head and filled her waterskin before she stood up again and looked to the east, sheilding her eyes against the rising sun with her hand. Irift wasn't that much farther away from here. It would be only a half days walk from here without stoping to rest of eat. She tightened her hand on the strap of her pack and made sure her sword was secure on the strap across her back before she started walking again, humming softly to herself a song she didnt remember where she had heard it before.

Within the trees, jumping from tree to tree with a force of strength unlike many others that the world knew, another was making his way through the forest. Everything about this man, his physique, his facial expressions, his clothing, and most obviously the was he moved through the trees, was of a primal nature; one that had been, for the most part, untainted by the effects of the cities, and smaller towns. His bulked muscle structure enhanced the appearance, and to the untrained eyes, he may have looked like an ape-man. But he was not an ape-man. He was not an ape. He was a man, and despite his monkey-like motions, he was a man of pride.

For Kouken Yochi, such travels were somewhat routine to daily life. In his homeland, he had practiced the same habit in his hunting. By now, he was able to jump from tree to tree without even using both hands to grip the next branch that came. This was a relief to him, as he was now, and always had been, traveling in the company of a spear, made off of the land, using cut rocks, that his people had managed to sharpen into effective weapons. The spearhead had then been lashed onto the end of a sturdy, cleanly shaven, wooden pole. Primitive, yes, but efficient in hunting, and as he hoped, combat.

From somewhere behind him, he could here the sound of another person, which he had not expected in these parts in the least. Whoever they were, they close by, otherwise, he would not have been able to pick up on the sound of their humming.

Looking down from his branch, some twenty feet up from the ground, he found that the humming noise was in fact right next to him. It was a young woman, and by her looks, one of the city women, or at least, one of the village women. Upon her person was a travel pack, sword, and a bow and a set of arrows. She too, must have been a on a quest to some place or another. But was she one of them? Or was she just another random wanderer? There was only one way for Yochi to find out.

Reaching into his garments, into a small pocket upon his pants, he pulled out a tube, about half a foot long, made of wood, with a small hole in one end, and a large one one the other. Reaching into another pocket, he took out a a dart. Loading the dart into the tube, he pressed his mouth against the smaller hole, and drew in a deep breath. Quickly, he exhaled, and the dart skimmed through the air, missing the young woman's head by about five feet, in a shot not meant to hurt, but to alert. As soon as he had fired his shot, he jumped down from the branch, landing bent kneed on the soft forest ground, hoping that his signal had worked the way he had wanted.

"That is correct young gladiator, we are offering you your freedom" the old merchant told a confused looking Merric.

Merric had heard that if a gladiator lived to be to old or not as popular as he once was he was offered freedom in exchange for a 'small' favour.

"But I am not old?, and I am as popular as the next gladiator if not more so" Merric began to protest

Merric had dreamed of the day when his freedom would come, but he had grown accustomed to this lifestyle of his.

"We offer you your freedom for neither of these reasons" Gid told him, "We have a request that we feel only you can fulfil" He said smiling to him.

Gid had been one of those gladiators who had grown accustomed to the lifestyle and as a result when he grew to old to fight any more the merchant offered him a position on his team training new gladiators.

"So, I gain my freedom for a favour?"

    "Exactly" Gid said simply

"And what is this favour" Merric asked with suspicion in his voice

"Have you heard of young woman called Idasha?"

Idasha abruptly stopped humming as she heard a soft sound she knew only too well was the sound of an arrow or some other weapon like it. She had her sword out just as the dart and the man who had shot it hit the ground. She was immediately on the alert, her carefree innocent expresson she had had before the arrow shot was changed to blank, cautious, and untrusting. She took in the appearence of her attacker and was confused He obviously isn't with the Empire... she thought to herself but there are others who would want to attack her alone in the forest. Bounty Hunters, Thieves, People who wanted to prove themselves worthy of being an empire soldier, murderers, pirates, the list goes on. Any of those could be a very good reason to attack a lone girl in the woods wether or not they knew her identity. She slowly lowered her sword after a hard but quick decision and then took a cautious step toward her attacker "Hello sir." she said cautiously but with the attempt at a carefree, almost childlike smile as was a habit of hers "I dont want any trouble... do you mind telling me why you attacked me?"

The merchant lord had just finished explaining his proposal to Merric, It sounded simple enough. All Merric had to do was capture the woman known as Idasha.

"And what becomes of my one and only possession?" Merric asked

"Possession?" The merchant said with surprise in both his facial expression and tone of voice.

"His sword my lord" Gid said to the merchant. "Do we still have it?" The merchant asked Gid in a whisper.
"Yes my lord, it is the one with the dragons eye. It was sold along with him when we first bought him" Gid told him. "I suggest we hand it over to him, that way we show we trust him and may convince him not to betray us" The old gladiator suggested to his Boss. "That is a wise choice, but I feel I have a better insurance." The merchant said smiling to Gid.

"Your sword will be given to you when the job is done" The merchant told Merric.

"In that case no deal" Merric said simply and walked out of the merchants tent.

The merchant shocked at first, took awhile to fully come to terms with what had just happened. When he finally came to terms with it he began shouting orders for Merric to return to his tent or face the consequences. Merric knowing that the worst that would happen to him is having his luxury's removed or a few lashes from a whip returned to his quarters and went to sleep.

Kouken didn't answer the girl right away, as she still need to at least be surveyed, sized up, as it were. It was a much easier task now that he was crouched right in front of her. She was clearly of a sleek, and well to-do build, with a lean, figure, and strong posture. A form build, perhaps more for speed than for strength, and maybe even a fair amount of dexterity. She was the kind of woman that would be bound for a warrior's life, were she up to it in the least. She could have been one of them, but if she had been, she would have attacked much sooner after his dart had she been.

When she has lowered her sword to her side, Yochi agreed that she wasn't of the empire, but simply another wanderer, like himself. He rose himself to a fully erected standing position, inadvertently showing off the entirety of his bulking form. He took his spear in hand, and pushed gently into the soft ground below, letting it stand freely by its head, and approached the girl, close enough to simply whisper what he had to say.

"No. Not attack. Alert. Many an ear adorns the trees in these woods." He paused for brief moment, and closed his eyes to allow his ears to take in the surroundings. There was little to be heard outside of the chirping of birds and, the playing of squirrels. He continued. "Whatever we must say, we must not say here."

Idasha was a little taken aback by the manerism's of this man and felt uncomfortable when he just kept staring at her. When he spoke she was glad the awkward silence was over and she looked around "I agree. Thats why I was on my way to the city as quickly as possible." she said cautiously "I know there are Empire recruters there but I know easy ways to avoid them and these woods are dangerous." she said it though she doubted the stranger would agree. He looked like he lived here all his life. He was very strong and had a hard, wild look in his eye but she felt she could trust him... sort of.

Gerik awoke to sunlight in his eyes. "Huh? Is it this late into the day already?" He yawned. He sat up, checking himself. He reached behind him and grabbed the hilt of his dagger. He pulled it out and looked at it. The blade was completely black, not even reflecting the sunlight. He put the dagger back in it's sheath. He looked down at his waist, seeing a blue vial tied to it. "Good. Everything's here." He stood up, picked up his swords, swung them over his back and cracked his neck. "Where to next? Where is the military located?"

"-And that's why you don't trust villagers." A soldier spoke to his two comrades.
"Huh, you don't say. . . Y'know, I heard that there was an Ogre guarding the temple we're looking for."
"Private, that is a cock-and-bull story fed to you by the Auroran gossipers. Now, if I hear one more word-"
His voice was cut off by the "WHOOSH" of leaves.

"What's going to happen, cap'n? Captain? Hey, where's he go?"
    "I don't know. . . Captain, this isn't funny. . WOAH!"
The soldier dropped straight through the ground, it appeared, into a pit. As the private peered into it, he saw his friend's body pierced by sharp pieces of wood among other skeletons. The moment he realized what had happened, he began running - but it was too late. Only a few seconds after he began running, something heavy hit his head and a collapsed. . .

Merric awoke to a the abnormal sound of quite. There is not tournament today, something is severely wrong Merric said grabbing his blade.

Merric stood up quietly and surveyed his room. Nothing had been touched, No one had come in to clean his room while he slept. Merric decided he had better get dressed before he did anything else. Merric dressed himself in his favourite gear. He put on his favourite breastplate and arm guards (appears as he does in the appearance picture). Merric could hear fast paced footsteps making there way towards him. He readied himself with blade in hand.

"Gid?!" Merric said surprised as he saw his friend burst through the entrance of his quarters.

"There is not much time Aquila, You are in great danger"

Gid had taken Merric to the weapons supply tent and was now telling him how he was in great danger.

"The merchant has ordered to have you killed, you really hit a nerve when you walked out on him"

"Then why didn't he do it while I slept?" Merric asked as he equipped himself with a foreign sword that he favoured (The sword in his right hand in the appearance).

"He wanted to make a lesson of you, for others who would rise up to the position you have. Come we are not safe here, we must escape"

"Not without my sword Gid!" Merric protested.

"I thought you would say that" Gid smiled to him "So I had the honour of stealing it for you this morning, I left it just outside the entrance to the city"

"Thank you Gid" Merric said smiling at his old friend.

"Now we must leave" Gid said and both he and Merric took off into the city.

Idasha heard sounds in the woods and began to get a little uneasy. She looked at the man who had stopped her "I'm sorry but it's still a long way to Irift and if I'm to get there before the sun sets I must be on my way." she said as she picked up her sword and put it away in its strap across her back. She shot Kouken a salute and then turned toward her destination. She was still unsure if she should trust that man... she would have to make a detour to make sure she wasn't being followed. She quickly and silently redirected her plan of destination.

    *Later that night*

The sun was getting lower on the horizon and Idasha knew she had to be quick if she was going to make it to Dartu (a smaller but still very big city than Irift in between where Idasha had been earlier that day and Irift. Very famous for it's Gladiator Arena.) because she had changed her direction and taken an alternate route to throw off just in case she was being followed after her encounter with the forest man, she would have to rest here tonight and arrive at Irift the following day. She got very cautios as she was nearing closer to the city, pulling her hood up over her head to hide her face some but not enough to look suspicios she walked up to the front gate where she was a little suprised to see that there were no guards at the entrance. This just made her more cautios though. There were always empire soldiers at every entrence to every city for as long as Idasha could remember. As she walked, the golden light from the lowering sun shimmered and reflected something on the ground at Idasha's feet. She stopped abruptly and looked down to see, nearly completely concealed in the grass by the city gate there was a sword. Idasha frowned, "That's odd." she muttered as she knelt down, not touching the blade but examining it. She stood up more quicly than it took her to kneel though. There was a strange deja vu feeling to the look of the blade that made Idasha feel uneasy. She looked around for a possible owner but she saw no one.

"Come along young Aquila, The sun is setting and if wait to long it will be to dark to manouver without tourches" Gid said to Merric who was just getting up from his hiding postion to avoid being seen by some passing guards.

"There is alot more guards here than I ever realized the merchant had" He said to Gid as they qucikly took off to hide behind the next set of high stacked boxes.

"These are not all Laybin's men" Gid said as the crouched down to better concel themselvs. "He told the local law enforcers that you have plans to kill the ruler of Ifrit, So there out searching for you"

"Why would I kill the ruler of Ifrit?! Merric asked knowing that the old gladiator had no answer for him.

"Come now, we must make hast"

    * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Gid and Merric had been running for what seemed to be over and hour. They were caught by a clumsy guard who's helmet had fallen of his head and he turned around as the two made a break for it. Fortunatly for Gid Merric was faster than him and he had been ahead of Gid when they began running. Merric knew that he could use this to Gids advantage and make it seem as if Gid was in persuit of the wanted gladiator.

"Turn left!" Gid shouted loaud enough for Merric to hear but soft enough that the other persuing soliders couldn't. As Merric turned the coner his legs on fire he could finaly see the gate. Gid took this as his oppertunity and as he and the soliders rounded the conor he fell spawling onto the ground limbs flayling in the air. The guards been clumsy oafs tripped over Gid and all the could do was watch as ther prisioner ran away.

Thank hevans for that Merric thought as he saw his freedom before him. Gid had told him he had left his sword about three hundred meters away from the main gate in a small patch of grass just off the road. I can rest when i retriev it Merric told himself as he forced his legs to keep moving.

"Almost there" Merric said with smile on his face despite the burning in his legs and the exaustion taking over his body. Merric turned the coner and stoped abrutly almost clapsing. In the grass he saw his sword, like Gid had promised, but there standing over his was a woman. Merrics mind filled with mermories.

Idasha shrugged "Thats odd... it seems a very magnificent blade. Who would forget it?" she stood up "I dont want to take it just in case the owner of the blade returns." she said as she begun to walk away. She didn't feel right about it though. Something just seemed too familiar about it. It was like looking at the face of someone and knowing she should know their name. She shook her head and began to turn to walk away again.

She stopped suddenly very alert when she heard yells and people running. She saw the Empire soldiers inside the streets of the City running toward her. At first she was alarmed thinking that she had been recognised but then she realized that it wasn't her that they were after.

When she first saw the boy she had the same sense of Deja Vu that the sword had given her. He was far ahead of the Soldiers. It was obvious he was going to get away though he was wearing empire clothing. She wasn't sure if she should run or help him. So she just watched, prepared to run at any moment. When he stopped at the sight of her, and the blade at her feet she took a step back. "I appologise." she said cautiously "I was just passing to get into the.." she shook her head, With the soldiers as alert as they seem to be, going into the city would be a bad idea. she thought to herself as she changed her mind and said nothing.

Merric was suddenly brought back to reality when he heard shouting coming closer and closer to him.

"Damn it!" Merric said under his breath. He picked up his sword and admired the craftsmanship.

"We have to go!" Merric said to the young woman who had been standing over his sword.

Merric could tell he met her before, and he remembered that she was the girl his family had given there lives to save. But to Merric's frustration he couldn't remember her name.

"Araghh" Merric heard as a solider who was faster than the others made his way quickly towards them sword raised high.

"Big mistake" Merric said as he sidestepped the man and cut his chest with his sword. The man's limp body fell to the floor.

"I can't hold them all off" Merric said the the woman" We have to run!" Merric said as he grabbed her hand and began running.

Idasha allowed herself to be pulled by the stranger who looked so familiar only for the fact that she had to run too anyway. If the soldiers recognised her from the 'wanted' posters most likely in the City then she would cause a lot of trouble. She recovered from her shock at the sudden change of situation reletively easily and caught up with him. She could hear the soldiers gaining on them behind and she knew they would have to outsmart them if they wanted to get away "so much for my plans to search through this city" she thought to herself. She ran in silence for a while before she caught the opportunity she was looking for. "This way!" she said to the escapee as she grabbed his hand and pulled him with her to the right, dodging by inches around one of the first trees as the forest got thicker. She knew these woods like the back of her hand from hiding in them for a lot of her childhood. If they could just make it a little farther, she knew the perfect way of ditching the soldiers. She just hoped she wouldn't get any back talk from whats-his-name. She looked sideways at him once to be sure he was following.

Merric was abit surprised when the woman had led him into the forest. He was going to object to it and demand they keep following the road but she manoeuvred through the forest with so much ease it was if she knew were each branch of every tree was. Merric imagined what it must look like to anyone observing and thought that anyone who saw who wasn't after his life they would find it rather humorous. A young nimble and beautiful girl making her way through the forest without and trouble. Been followed by a young man who was been smacked with every branch that passed and getting small cuts from the various plant life.

Merric saw her look at him to see if he was following, he was about to make a negative comment but seeing as how she was saving his life he decided not to. After awhile of running they made it to a clearing in the woods. Were they both stopped to rest.

"Were are we?" Merric asked taking his swords and placing them on a tree that had fallen over. He then sat on the tree putting his hands on his knees and tried to catch his breath.

Idasha didn't answer him right away. He looked so familiar but that could be for a number of reasons. For all she knew he was an assasin she has seen before. His clothes were empire made that was for sure. But that wouldn't explain why he was being chased by soldiers. She paused for a moment, trying to listen for anyone that might still be following them before she cautiously answered the person she had just helped. "We're a long ways away from Irift." she said, making her answer vauge on purpose. This way if the situation became bad, she could always make a quick escape. He obviously hadn't spent much time in the woods before.
