I do a little bit of music arrangment as a hobby. I hope to get a bit better with it and move on to some composing, but I'm not there yet. I have a couple of pieces uploaded onto a freeweb site so I can share them Both are arrangements of Final Fantasy pieces. One is the Overture to the Dream Oath, the opera from FFVI. The other is an arrangement of various FFVII pieces.

Both pieces were done in Sibelius, so the play back is little better than General MIDI. I appologize for that. They are also unfinished, having little to no percussion. They will also have more music to them. For instance there are three other pices I want to include in the FFVII arrangement and the opera will include not just the overture but the full 23 minute piece. Hopefully, when I finish them, I can get a band to play them, and post up some quality sudio for ya'all to hear. But for now, it's default Sibelius playback, so sorry.

Also, it takes a long time to buffer the music. When I was on a cable connection it took me 15 minutes buffering before it would play to the end. So open up the page, wait a while, and come back to it.

Just click the song you want to listen to and you'll be taken to it. Hope ya'all enjoy them. Let me know what you think.

So, you're into making your own music? If you want some inspiration, try checking out some Evokeone work.

Here's some work, which destroys yours in comparison.

^That's some nice constructive criticism there.

If this is the same one I've listened to before, you already know what I think. Better than anything I could do.

Did you actually ever listen to it? I know I kept bugging you to. And every time I asked you said you hadn't.

Yeah, I did about a month later v_v And I swear I told you what I thought about it. You've pretty much already told me what you thought needed work anyway.

Kind is hardly the word I'd use to describe myself.

The point of people posting their work is to get ideas on things they can do better, not have someone post other works that "destroy" the one that's posted with no comments on what could be done better, or what already sounds good as is. But really, I don't expect anything else out of you.

I think it would sound great with real musicians playing the piece, which is your eventual intent. As it is, you have to deal with the limitations of the programs you're using. I remember you having trouble because the program wouldn't play high enough notes or something like that, which wouldn't be an issue with real people playing.

When I actually have access to a personal computer, I'll take a listen to the opera. For now I've just listened to the FFVII piece, so I'm basing all my comments on that.

Yeah, the opera has some real playback limitations. There are places where instructions for certain instruments on repeated passages are to play "2nd time only" but the program doesn't understand that.

Dynamics are a constant struggle. The program will on;y change dynamics on moving parts, getting louder or softer as it goes to each new note. But it doesn't seem to be able to change volume during a single held not, which is when it's most often supposed to in my music. And even in the newer version that I have, it's troublesome to get it to change to the volume I'd like.

And it was not playing back low notes that I was having problems with, but I think I've eliminated that issue. I can use more instruments in the new version, so my tubas don't have to be pitched down trumpets.

what program do you use to arrange the notes?

I use Sibelius. It's classical notation software.

Oh, well Ive tried that, but as far as playback goes, I usually use Finale Notepad, or Finale Allegro, or some of there other programs, if your looking for a free program, try notepad, but the others you have to pay for. Heres the link

But I do like your style of work, especially the way youve blended the various ff music together.

If all else fails, I can try importing it into Cubase once it's finished, and using the better instrument sounds, though ideally I'd love to be able to have it played by live musicians.

I've used Finale. Started on it in fact. I find I actually like Sibelius better. The playback had the same issues, as I recall. The Sibelius interface is much more user-friendly. I also think I had an issue in Notepad where they had transposing parts but not transposing playback.

Thanks for the comments though. I'm glad you enjoyed it. There's three more parts left to the piece, one of which I've finished. When it's all done, I'll put it up.

If you're into music, throw your hat into the music competitions. We need more participants. Pulse is up for it once he gets some programs to use, and if I have three entries, including my own, I think I've got a good competition, considering how rare it is for people to do this sort of thing.

Id need some help in getting the music up into freewebs, or any other way to share it, but Id give it try, im no where near good, but I like messing around and putting stuff together so I think it would be a fun thing to do.

Unless your file is REALLY big, you won't have to deal with freewebs. Just go to www.box.net. If you find you need to use freewebs, just be sure to open your account and create your site a week in advance. You won't be able to upload your file for 7 days without purchasing one of the buy-up packages.

Defeats the purpose if you think about it. It it's not really a "free"web then is it.

Yeah, well im thinking about it, Ive used freewebs before, id just rather not have to go through all the registration. It does become a hassle. But Ill check out box.net.

Also, wich version of sibelius do you use?

I've got Sibelius 5. But the music you here was actually done with Sibelius 4. I recently upgraded.

The demo version, or did you buy it?

No, it's the full version. Got an educational discount while I was at school on Sibelius 4, and I upgraded to 5 when it came out.
