As this is a chain and some people are getting bitchy with going off topic I bring you this. It has no off topic, if you feel like brining another debate into it feel free to do so.

    I Will start.

Can you win a spar? I always thought not as the aim of spar was to train and not to assert dominance.

    discuss.

That is very thoughtful of you to make this thread. Nice. Now Star, me, or nayone else don't have to worry about anything.

Lol, you made this cause you got pissed about us being pissed. Still, its a great idea and no more debate threads will end up opening I think.

To your question, the point of a spar IS to win. Sparring is using every technique and strength at your disposal to defeat an enemy. The only real difference between a spar and a real battle is that it is done under safer conditions or neither person is actually striving to injure an opponent. Spars generally end when one person calls it off or a participant is placed in a position were they could not survive if it was a real battle, i.e. weapon at persons kneck or something to that extent.

Isn't to spar means to fight, though?

XD I thought spar means to box, but spar can mean to fight though.

To spar is to train in combat, I wouldn't think someone would win in training. As said above you don't aim to injure your opponent. Granted you may be able to get out of a move without death, but if faced with the option of death or try to get out what would you do.

anyway, new topics will still be needed as this is a chain, meaning they have to link.

If faced with an option of death i would say surrender. A blade at your neck is not something you can get out of. Make a false move, and your head rolls. And spars are training battles. Battle being the keyword there, they are technically a fight.

What I am saying is surrender isn't an option. Either Die or move is the most likely situation (war has changed though, highly unlikely a weapon will be at your neck.

Then that would be some kind of Death Match then.

I always thought of Sparring as a "friendly" type of bout/duel.

It is, kind of. Its a training exercise. A winner is decided when someone can't move without dieing in a real life situation.

  11. I figured that sparring was only training between warriors in order for them to improve on their skills. Sure a person can win but the goal of sparring should not be to kill eachother because usualy sparring is between friends.

Now if your in a battle or a fight then it's usualy between enemies so death is an option.

You can win in a spar. It's kinda obvious. I've won and lost a few spars in my time. Spars can be fights for fun, or just practice. But when somebody gives up, they lose. It's like a game of mercy. Whoever says uncle first loses.

    No!
I meant that say if a the opponents sword say was at your neck. Then he wins, because if it was a real battle the guy's head would roll.

Your right all the way Zerieth.
I spar all the time. And I have lost a spar in my lifetime. In a free "shoot", I'd be dead right now. Spars are like simulations almost, a fight that has a winner, but no one gets hurt as bad as they would in a real fight. Its training in a more real life situation sense.
