(Ok, for those of you who are not aware, I love to write stories. This is the first one that I have decided to share with others. Your comments would be greatly appreciated but please be nice. Anyway, Enjoy :D
    ~Hope)

    Prologue
The city use to be much better than this. You should have seen it in it's glory days. Back when people use to live here and the voices of children's laughter and the sight of normal people filled it. It was beautiful and amazing. The sunlight would bring a glow to the city and people every morning and the moon and stars would make it sparkle at night. And twilight was probably everyone's favorate time of the day. The golden glow would shine down on every little inch of the city, baithing it in it's glorious light and making it look like a city of pure gold. Everyone was happy and together all of the time. But that was before the curse.
Now it is nothing but a few empty, broken down, blood-stained buildings and a few piles of bricks. There are no more laughing children playing in the parks or yards. Only the sound of the whisteling wind and the howls of the forgotten can be heard. The sun never brings that same serene glow to the concrete, glass, and people. The golden light of the twilight was washed away by the blood and tears. Time is frozen and the sun never rises here in this horrific place, frozen in time for an empty eternity. Nobody is happy and together anymore. And it will never be back to it's sunlight and glory again.
Of course, I wasn't born yet to see this city at it's best. It was destroyed nearly 1000 years ago. But I may as well have been because my grandmother told me the story so many times I could have recited it backwards if I wanted to. I can just imagine the terrified looks on the face's of the millions of innocent humans that were brutally murdered by the people of my kind. It puts ice in my veins as I picture the scarlet blood running down the streets like snakes and staining the once sparkling white walls of every building.
And yet here I stand, on the top of the clock tower that hasn't told time since July 7, 2777. I look upon the city that my ancestors helped destroy with a racing heart and excited eyes. My name is Jade. I don't remember my last name because it hasn't been spoken for nearly 900 years. This is my story and the story of my people. We are cursed and for that reason, exiled from human society. We are called the Cavità, or to put it simply: The Children of The Hollow.
We have no place in the real world, nor did we care for many years. It was only until our old ones started turning into the forgotten did we know something must be done. The forgotten are horrible monsters that eventually all children of the hollow will become. We don't want to become those monsters. We don't want to forget. We will become human again no matter what the cost.

*Before we start the next chapter. I want to kind of clarify some of the terms that Jayden will be using:

The Forgotten- The forgotten are monsters that were once normal Children of the hollow just like Jade. Once a Cavità reaches a the age seven hundred and seventy seven, they start showing sights of becomming a Forgotten too. Their blood turns silver, then they become violent and familiy ties die within them, then they slip into a coma where the final transformation takes place within their minds. They forget everything human and good. Their soul desolves and dies away. They don't remember anything but blood and they want nothing but blood and more souls to destroy. The poisen of a Forgotten can turn normal humans into a Cavità.

Family- When she is reffering to her family as a large group, she is talking about her community. The Cavità do not just stick in one large group. Many of them separated and travel alone. Jade's 'Family' is the largest group of Cavità to stay together and there are roughly 70 members in their group/community/family.

Cavità- Like stated earlier, the Cavità are people with a curse set on them that they never age for seven hundred seventy seven years and then they become monsters. They want to be human. Verry few of them want to become a forgotten but there are some out there who see the curse as a blessing.

Lilith- Lilith is Jade's grandmother and the only known Cavità who lived some of her life a a human. She was one of the first of the Cavità on earth and she remembers the day that the curse was put on her people.*

    Any questions so far?
If so feel free to ask :D
    Anyway back to the story...

    :Chapter 1- The Heir:

"Jayden! Jayden! Come On you lazy!" I felt myself briskly shaken and startle awake. I lay there panting in the darkness. It was silent for a moment as I gathered my thoughts. How long had I been sleeping? A few minutes? A few hours maybe? The thought unsettled me. Sleep was a sign of weakness. Weakness meant that you were no better than one of the forgotten. Mindlessly searching for human blood to drink and souls of their former friends and family within the Cavità to absorb.
"...Are you awake?" the rough female voice asked in the darkness, ripping me from my thoughts.
I nodded tiredly but then realized that my attacker couldn't see the motion because of the darkness. "Yes... yes I am awake. What is it?" I asked, stiffening a yawn.
The voice was silent for a moment, hesitating. "Jade... Lilith requested to see to you."
I was suddenly alert in an instant. My heart thudding in my chest so loudly I was sure that even a human would be able to hear it. "...Why?" I finally found my voice to ask.
Bright light filled my room with startling suddenness. I brought up my hand to shield my eyes from the blinding light and when I did, A strong hand wrapped around my wrist and pulled me roughly off of my bed so quickly that I almost tripped and fell on my face. I regained my balance and then looked up to the face of the woman who had woken me up. It was Mary, one of the oldest in my family. She had stopped ageing when she was 37 years old. It was strange to some how many years she had really seen. Seeing that it was Mary who came to get me only made me more fearful. Mary was Lilith's right hand. She was never to leave her side unless it was terribly important.
Mary didn't give me any time at all to ask questions or worry at all. She hadn't let go of my wrist as she walked quickly to my wardrobe, pulling be briskly along with her. She picked out my most simple article of clothing which was a satin black dress that hung down to my knees and had quarter sleeves. She tossed the dress at me and then walked picked out black shoes too. She put the shoes on the foot of my bed, "You have a total of 120 seconds to get dressed and then I'm coming in to get you." she said threateningly as she walked to door. She paused at the doorway and then turned to me again "And if I come back here and you are asleep again I'll hurt you.", she walked out the door closing it loudly behind her.
I stared blankly after the door was closed. Did she really think I was capable of sleeping when Lilith had called. My nerves were shot. I shook my head, two minutes wasn't really a decent amount of time to get myself presentable. With quivering but fast moving hands, I picked up the dress quickly got changed. I then ran over to the bed and put on the shoes that Mary had picked out for me. On any other day, I probably would have picked out a different pair of shoes just to annoy her. I picked up a brush from my bedside table and ran it through my waist leingth dark brown hair. The natural curles frizzed as the brush passed through them but it was better than the tangled mess that it was before.
I had just gotten my hair completely brushed when the door slammed open again and Mary came in. She grabbed my wrist again, not even giving me time to put the brush down again on my bedside table. I was again being pulled roughly behind Mary. This time, I was expecting the urgency of the moment so I was able to keep up with her easily. I walked about a step ahead of her now, so she let go of my wrist and let me walk by myself.
    **********************

The door to Lilith's room was closed as it always was. Mary pulled an old looking silver key out of her pocket and walked past me to the door. She started whispering hushed instructions. "You know how she is sometimes. Don't upset her." she opened the door. It swung open smoothly on it's greased hinges. Not a sound was made as Mary motioned me to follow her and then walked through the door into the dark, smokey room.
I followed Mary cautiously. The room smelled strongly of thick incense smoke. It stung my eyes and nose and I had to work hard not to cough as I walked gracefully but blindly farther into the large space of Lilith's room.
I heard Mary walk out and close the door behind her. With Mary, all light from the hallway was extinguished. The silence that filled the room after Mary left was almost as thick in the air as the misty incense smoke. I tried not to breathe as I waited for something to happen.
Then a familiar, smooth voice sounded from somewhere directly in front of me. "Jade?"
I cleared my throat nervously, "Yes... I am here grandmother."
The soft sound of Lilith's laughter broke the icy fear that had once gripped my heart. I had been so worried that Lilith was not well. Why else would she have called me into her room at such a late hour. But she was laughing so there couldn't be anything wrong... could there?
Lilith continued talking "Oh good. I thought you might have been Mary. She's such a stick in the mud sometimes. Wouldn't you agree?"
I nodded, smiling. "She scared me grandma. In her urgency I thought you were..." I couldn't bring herself to finish the sentence. Lilith was the oldest member of our family at an astounding 900 years old. Usually, we don't live past 777 years old before we become a forgotten. To become a forgotten there are always a few signs that give us a clue. For instance, their blood would turn silver. Their behavior would become extremely violent. Then they would eventually get sick and weak, and once they black out, you know there is no helping them. They would forget completely about everything but death and blood and they would become monsters. The best thing you could do for them is to kill them before they wake up. I siply could not bear to think of my gentle, beautiful grandmother Lilith to become a Forgotten. To see her body being used for so much evil and hate and bloodlust was the worse kind of torture emaginable for me.
Because of her age and wisdom, Lilith was what we call the mother of our family or the leader of our community. But no matter what others called her, she was first and foremost, my biological grandmother and the only living blood relative I had left.
While lost in my thoughts, I hadn't heard my grandmother walk across the room to turn on the light. Once again, I was taken by surprise by blinding light that chased away the empty darkness that was once stopping me from seeing around the room. I looked at Lilith. She was beautiful, with long blonde hair that was naturally curly like mine, and almost silvery blue eyes. She round facial features and a slender figure. She was just as pale as all of us from spending so much time in this city with no sunlight.
I had been told so many times that I looked like her. I didn't believe it though. I was about 6 inches shorter than her with dark brown hair that frizzed so much more easily than hers. I didn't have her hourglass figure or enchanting smile either. She had stopped aging when she was 26 so she appeared to only be 10 years older than me which didn't help my case at all.
Lilith walked with stunning grace back to me, her bright smile was still there but it faded slightly. She finished my sentence for me, "...You thought I was dying?" her smile suddenly faded all the way. "Jade... no I am not dying tonight but death is the reason that I called you here tonight." she admitted silently. "Look, I think we both know that I have really outstayed my welcome with the living for a good two hundred years."
My heart started racing wildly in my chest again. I was hyperventilating a little.
Lilith waited patiently for me to get control of myself again. She led me over to the bed and made me sit down on it. When I could bring myself to speak again I gaped at my grandmother with a worried expression. "What are you saying grandma? Don't tell me you are dying..." my voice rose slowly in pitch the more words I said. I was starting to panic, "...You are the only family I have left! You can't just die! You are completely healthy and you... maybe you are different!..." Lilith put one finger to her lips in a gesture that meant silence. My voice broke off immediately. Stupid Magic! She Muted me!!!!
"Jade, I cannot stop death. It is a natural occurrence. I know it was fate for me to stay longer because you and the others still needed me. But they don't need me anymore because they have you."
I shook my head, "No.... no no no no! I still need you. Doesn't my opinion count?"
Lilith just smiled, it was apparent that there was something "But don't you see Jade. You are my heir There is nobody I would trust more with this family than you."
My mind went blank for a whole three seconds before I possessed what she was saying. When I did, I tried to speak but all that happened was my mouth opening and closing again like a fish out of water. I occasionally made weird squeaking noises when I tried to talk.
    Lilith giggled.
I could have hit her if I didn't love and respect her so much! Here she was telling me that she was going to just go and die and leave her family of over fifty members for me to keep safe and all she could do was smile and laugh!?
Lilith sighed, "I know this isn't easy Jayden. There aren't even any promises that I am going to die I just wanted you to know what's going on in case anything should happen. Do you understand?"
I tried to say something but all that came out was a whimper. I nodded, holding back tears. I don't know why I was being such a baby. She promised she wasn't going to die anytime soon but... why else would she be warning me about it NOW.
I cursed myself in my weakness. Had I been with anyone else, I probably would have gotten scolded or made fun of for crying now but Lilith was different. She was my Lilith. She was compassionate and strong all at once and I loved her more than anything. How would I live without her?
I felt Lilith's arms wrap around me she held me there, with my face pressed against her shoulder, like I use to when I was a child, staining her silk white dress with my childish tears. I felt horrible, it was she who might soon die and yet she was comforting me. It should be the other way around but I couldn't help it. So I cried it out and Lilith stayed there with me all night while my display of weakness and childishness pressed on.

    :Chapter 2- Silver:

Later that night, I was sent back to bed. It was still three o-clock in the morning but I couldn't bring myself to fall back to sleep. I sat on the edge of my bed for almost half an hour, getting control of my emotions again. Then, once I was absolutely sure that I could go back to be with the others without losing a tear or two, I stood up and walked over to the wardrobe to change my cloths. The black dress was thick with the smell of the incense in Mary's room. I hated it as much as Lilith did. I chose a black tank top and blue jeans that were a little faded. That was my favorite pair of clothes because they were so movable. Then I went over to the mirror and did my hair and makeup. The natural curls in my hair were pulled up out of my face with a few clips and I wore my makeup very lightly. I checked the clock, it was five o-clock. There was sure to be a lot of people up by then. I walked out of my room and down the stairs. I would have to keep my meeting with my grandmother a secret as I was told just before leaving her earlier that morning. I walked over to the stairway and walked down one flight to the bottom floor before walking out onto the streets. The outside in the city use to creep me out. I hated going outside when I was a child but I didn't mind it so much anymore. Actually I liked being out on the streets by myself. Nobody really went out there because for fear of the Forgotten so that was one of the only places I could go to be alone. I had a lot to think about now so I didn't mind being on my own. I walked down the dark streets, only a little worried about running into a Forgotten. They didn't really come out during the day very often. Even though there was never any sunlight, the stars were brighter during the day and the moon was never out. The Forgotten gain much of their power from the moon so without it, any old human could probably kill it with little or no problem.
I remembered the first day I met my grandmother. I was a nomad back then. I didn't play well with others nor did I want to. I was running low on supplies and surrounded by some particularly vicious Forgotten. I broke into the sanctuary and was stealing some of the supplies when Mary caught me. It was her vote to have me killed but others noticed how much I looked like Lilith. I was so lost in my thoughts and memories I really wasn't paying attention to where I was going.
I remembered her claiming me as her family and teaching me magic that not even the oldest and wisest of Cavita could figure out. She always told me I was destined for something great one day. She had always believed in me and said she would always be there for me, and now what? She was just going to go and die just like that!? I shook my head, suddenly wondering how far I had been walking. I stopped and looked around to find that I didn't recognise any of the surrounding landmarks. I must have been walking pretty fast because it didn't even seem that I was in the Forgotten City anymore.
I was in some sort of clearing. There were no buildings or trees or anything. Just black sand in every direction I could see.
I decided not to panic. That would get me nowhere but more lost. I turned back to the direction that I had just been traveling and saw nothing. Just more black sand and my own footprints.
"That's strange..." I thought to myself as I took a step forward. I was even more supprised when as I took a step, the sand I stepped in was wet. I looked down to see that I had stepped in a small puddle of sand tainted silver and drenched wet. Forgotten blood, I realized in horror. A forgotten had been here not more than a few minautes or so ago. I took a few quick steps back and looked around, but I saw nothing.
A loud howl erupted through the night no more than a half mile away. I could see something in the distance and knew by the size of it that I had found the creature but worse: It had found me.

    ~:Chapter 3- A Human!?:~
My heart seemed to pick up pace at an increadable speed but it seemed to be the only part of my body that would move, the rest rigid with fear. In a jerky movement I wheeled around quickly and sprinted the way I had come. There was no way I could fight off a Forgotten as tired and weaponless as I was. I could tell it was a high level Forgotten because it had been smart enough to set a trap. The blood that I had stepped in now marked me to the preditor it could catch the scent anyhere. Trying to confuse teh monster I took off my shoe that was covered in the blood of it's last prey and I threw it down an ally to my right and then continued moving forward. My only hope was getting home before it managed to catch up to me. Though it was still a maile away from me I knew that if I wasn't smart that it would catch me in no time and not only that but it's howl must have attracted the attention of other Forgotten as well. I was in very big trouble.
Just as I made it to the center of the forgotten City though I heard it howl again this time maybe no less then ten yards behind me. I quickly dodged around a corner but it was a grave mistake for there was annother one waiting. I had fallen for annother trap. The beast had jumped on me with a low horrible growl. This one was former Cavitia a very young Forgotten I could tell because it still had some vey human like qualities the only change was it's skin color now white and eyes which had turned bright yellow. It pinned me against the ground with one single pounce and held me there struggleing to get away. The older one caught up as well both of the looming over me. The older one's face was pale and twisted with hunger, its teeth about the leingth of my hand bared at me in a low growl. I knew I was deffinately going to die as both of them leaned over me to strike. I closed my eyes tightly, preparing for the pain of death.

Then suddenly I heard something entirely different. A sound I had never expected to hear. A very human-like cry and the two forgotten suddenly were knocked off of me. I opened my eyes quickly to see a man had been the one to help me. He looked no older then twenty or so. Armed with a clumsy looking sword but he seemed to weild it expetly. He had wounded the younger one already as I stood up. The two of them lepped at him as if to kill him right there but when he injured the older one as well the two of them ran away but the leader turned and looked at me furiously before it ran away. I looked at the man who had saved me and my breath caught in my throat. 'It cant be!" i thought to myself with wide eyes. There was no sign of Cavitia or Forgotten on him. He was human the first human I had seen all my life.
