Aloof Debates #3

Debate number three will be something I doubt many of you think about.

In my opinion I believe there is one basic drive that forces us forward. It is a realization, an emotion that sends us spiraling in every direction. Now while I say this I must omitted that this drive does not drive everything, how ever I am saying that this drive pushes us to do a vast number of things.

The debate topic is: The basic drive(s) of humans [and possibly all creatures]

I believe that the most powerful emotion that drives us humans is fear. It holds us tightly and never lets us go. Just about every action you make -every thought or idea you have- is because of fear.

    What are your opinions?

i say fear is not the strongest emotion, is't really determination, your dream to do something. it what makes people keep goign, whaat tells them what choices they make.

Fear is not the strongest emotion. Yes, we get scared of something & have doubts about something that let the fear get to us, but the fear can be overcomed by courage & bravery. I think the most powerful emotion that pushes us is either love & endurance (Can't think of any word besides endurance.) they take the pain that is thrown at them & suffer from it & take that pain to get stronger, learn from it, & keep on moving on while love makes people care for one another.

Ah, my friends but with out fear you wouldn't have determination, courage, or bravery. Now here is where I strike my point.

Why do you love? Why do you strive to prove yourselves in this world? Why do you avoid pain as much as possible?

You love out of fear of being alone. Not having anyone by your side to comfort you, to share your ideals, to be there to support you or tell you when you do something wrong.

You strive because you are afraid of being forgotten in an ever changing and ever moving world. You don't want to be left alone as a nameless grain of sand in the desert. You want to be mountains so that all will know you.

You want to be courageous and brave because you realize that without taking chances and doing risky things you won't be able to strive and reach your goals.

EDIT: You avoid pain and things that bring you too much pain because you fear harm, you don't want it and what it does to you. How ever this can be overridden.

ah my friend here, my answers will kill you.

Now, yes with love, you want to be able to share your life with with you and your family, to show them what you have, someone worthy. many people have not been with comfort, then with the other emotion hope, witch is mostly one of the stognest that kill fear, hope make it that you always have something to hold on to, so you can have something warm when you have no one. then the brave part, you be brave sometimes to show that you have no fear, so bravery also kills fear as well, you can strive without bravery but it's hard, so you become courageous, so you can overcome fear, then you bravery in the process. and pain, me i don't like it, but i can take it, pain makes people overcome fear as well, so then when you go up agasnit something that has happened before, you have no fear, you know what pain will be and you don't care, cause you understand that the pain will go away. so yes it can be overridden like you said and that is one way how.

I am not dead. Here is my flesh, there are no wounds. (lol I'm liking this)

To me hope is a bit of an illusion. Those that acknowledge it can tread longer than those who don't, however it does not kill fear as you have suggested. I say this because doubt is another form of fear that can destroy ones hopes. So you see, hope and love do not destroy fear. They merely delay it.

I have do disagree with this statement. No one is without fear. No one. They might not show it, and they might vouch saying they don't, but everyone feels it. Everyone has it. It is always there.

I'm sorry to say but courage by definition is: the quality of being brave. To be brave means to not have fear. Bravery is merely and act.

You don't want it because you don't like it. You may be able to handle some sorts of pain but by instinct you fear pain. However the knowledge of your tolerance to pain is what allows you to bypass that fear.

If we are talking of the most powerful emotion, I think that should be called as rage. Love and fear are not emotions that make us do something that we usually cannot do, but when you're in rage, I mean, really in rage, you'll do almost anything that you think of what you should do.

good, point, but rage isnt that strongest either, really it's....saddenss.

Ah, but why do you get angry?

    quote=answer man]Sadness[/quote]

Ah.. This is the one emotion I cannot link to fear. It in itself is separate from fear because it is a reaction to our fears should they become true.

Oh, a very good question. You should think that one for yourself for few moments, and you'll be sure to get some answer to that one. Because we got really different reasons to get mad at something, and there are several reasons for me.

But you didn't actually tell your opinion for this one, but I personally think that rage is more powerful emotion that fear.

...but if were trying to question that which one of them affects the people at the moment more badly, I.. don't know. And I got a feeling for a moment that I was debating with myself.

I asked you that question to see your opinion. I know why I get anger. Because I fear of losing something is one. Because someone annoys me and I fear losing my peace and quiet (example), or because someone is taking away something of mine and I fear losing it.

    what about happyness.

Basically the same as love. You chase after it because you do not want to live unhappy. It is depressing which is another form of sadness. Something many people avoid.

good comeback, but you dont chase happiness really, most people just want it, so that there sadness is gone.

Nice catch. I should have said something more along the lines of running from the fear of not being happy, or if you'd prefer me to say it: running from the sorrow of not being content.

good one. but if would sorrow be like a big emotion?

  17. Haresuno

    Haresuno KH-3's Übermensch

See I'm not entirely sure myself. Sorrow isn't so much an activating emotion as it is a resulting emotion.

  18. Answer Man

but with saddens and and after fear it's sorrow right?

I'm not sure if I understand your sentence. You might want to try re-wording it or editing it.

sr, ok, sorrow is something that makes you feel bad, so if you fear something and your not brave enough to do what you fear, then you have sorrow.
