A Thought on Cloud

... I suspect this will need to get relocated to the spam section, but...

I ended up talking with co-worker about KH, and came to the following strand of thought:

Sora, in theory, defeats Cloud in Coliseum battles. Relatively easily at that.

But Sora, generally, struggles to beat Sephiroth.

Yet, Cloud fights evenly against Sephiroth (in cutscenes)

Recognizing but disregarding the futility in making logic out of this, I conclude that Cloud goes easy on the player/Sora whenever they battle.

Just an amusing thought that came to me.

    Thoughts, comments, concerns?

Maybe it isn't Cloud going easy on Sora. Instead, maybe it is Sephiroth who is going easy on Cloud.

Here's my reasoning. Cloud is hired to take dispose of Sora. And if Cloud is like me, he will do his best to make the work finish as soon as possible. The sooner it gets done, the sooner he gets paid; and his attitude would suggest he wants to be done with it all quickly. That being said, he wants to make it quick, and would use all his strength to win. But he underestimates Sora and the gang, and has his butt handed to him.

Sephiroth recognizes the power within Sora, and the Keyblade, and therefore also uses his whole strength against Sora, and usually has him beaten in ten seconds (at least, that's how long the battles last when I am playing). And while he also knows the power within Cloud, maybe it is possible he feels sentimental toward Cloud, or some familial bond with him that makes him unable to use his full strength. After all, only a few people from each world are able to travel from planet to planet. Maybe Sephiroth is using Cloud as a sparring partner instead of someone he wants to destroy.

That's what my coworker was saying, with Seph taking it easy on Cloud. But, as I recall, Cloud was hired to kill off Herc, not Sora. He would have only needed to beat Sora enough to remove him from competition, not kill him.
