So, now that the year's over, what were your favorite and least favorite 2010 movie releases? Best and worst made, if you have an opinion? Did the movies you were anticipating live up to your expectations? And so on, just general comparison talk.

    ---
Well, over this past year, I've seen Sherlock Holmes, Shutter Island, Clash of the Titans, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Alice in Wonderland, The Last Airbender, Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Toy Story 3 (twice), Despicable Me, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I, and Megamind.

I can't really narrow the list down to one favorite, but I loved Holmes, Apprentice, Deathly Hallows, and Megamind. The smiling the whole time kind of like. Megamind is the one I've seen most recently, so it's the one that sticks out foremost in my mind, but I liked all four of them at the time. But I was also especially pleased with DH, particularly since it's not my favorite book, and the movies have been so hit and miss for me. They nailed it here, imo.

Least favorite is either The Last Airbender or Eclipse. On the one hand, though I'm one of the few who did like TLA, there was just so much wasted potential. Of the ones I was anticipating, this definitely let me down the most. But then, the source of material was so brilliant that I think I would always see that in the movie (even if it were a lot worse) and give it a thumbs up for it. On the other hand, I think Eclipse was the better made movie, but the story is so damn ridiculous that no amount of decent directing, less cheesy scriptwriting, or whatever could make it good. Eh, I'll give the suckiest award to Eclipse. Gotta hate Twilight.

Best made movie of the ones I've seen is probably Toy Story 3. Worst, The Last Airbender.

I haven't seen Inception or Scott Pilgrim vs the World, or a score of other movies released last year (yet), but anyways, here's my skewed sum up of the year anyhow. What'd you all think of the year in film?

I have seen numerous movies this past year and its hard to narrow it down to one favorite, my least favorite though would definitely be Vampires Suck, I saw this movie the day before I left for college on a kind of spur of the moment thing and some parts were funny since I'm a Twilight fan but as a whole it was pretty bad as most parody movies are. As for my faves of 2010: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Twilight: Eclipse, Deathly Hallows Part 1, and just recently Tron Legacy, I technically saw Tron yesterday but it was released in December so I'll count it as a 2010 movie.

Inception/Toy Story 3/Deathly Hallows by far were my favourite films of 2010. Inception had an epic ending and it really made you think. Toy Story was just brilliant, it beat Shrek 4 for me and it was better than any animation i've seen all year (maybe even all my life). Deathly Hallows I actually got to see twice, once with the fam and a second time with some friends and I'm actually glad I did. The first time I saw it I just childishly hated it because it wasn't set in Hogwarts, too much travelling and etc but then when I saw it the second time I actually started to appreciate it.

I liked the TLA too, why did everyone hate that film? I just don't get it... there were worst films like in my opinion, Sherlock Holmes who butchered the character Sherlock in my opinion, Vampires Suck (suck being the operative word), I can't think of any more but there were worse films.

I saw Toy Story, Tron, Alice in Wonderland. . . and that's about it. I loved all three.

Because everybody compares it to the series, which means everybody would hate it, no matter what.

I liked Sherlock Holmes. And how was his character butchered? He's a narcisstic bastard in the novels. (By the way, didn't Sherlock Holmes come out Christmas of 2009?)

As for myself, saw Sherlock Holmes, Sorceror's Apprentince, Last Airbender, Despicable Me, Iron Man 2, and maybe others that came out during the year. From the list, Iron Man 2 is by far my favorite. I liked all the others, and I found Last Airbender to be bearable as long as I didn't compare it to the actual series.

Skyline was obviously the worst since the story line was all screwed up thanks to the Producers.

Best of 2010. I haven't seen any movies that were to my likings at all. Hmph, maybe it's because I'm very picky, or I just like Oscar Award Winning movies.

I think you're right, but what the hell, I saw it in 2010, so I'm counting it anyhow. XD And personally, I thought they nailed Holmes' character from the books perfectly. He was always kind of eccentric and a bit of an asshole (no doubt why I liked him so much), but he had this bromance going on with Watson which I think the movie also did extremely well. The lethargic fits, followed by the cocaine use and hyperactivity were there, the shooting the walls of the rooms he was renting was even there, and everything.

I've been fortunate enough to miss out on all of the films those two morons wrote/directed, but I've heard Vampires Suck is a real piece of crap. I'd imagine it's at the bottom of everyone's list who has seen it. Which is a shame, because a really good Twilight parody would have done well, and I would have wanted to see it.

Too high expectations, overzealous fans wanting everything their way, and racists offended by the "whitewashed" casting I think were a big part. But there was a disappointing lack of actual bending, the script was really quite terrible, and some of the acting a little hammy (which wasn't helped by some awkward camera work). I think another big problem was that Paramount couldn't decide who they were making the movie for. The series was originally made with younger kids in mind, but I think the most vocal fans are teens and young adults. So they started a darker movie geared to the fans, then seemed to cut out a ton of stuff they'd already filmed and made it shorter for the tiny attention spans of grade schoolers (or to cut the cost of the 3D conversion, I dunno), which just didn't satisfy anyone, really. [/rant]

I just rented and watched Scott Pilgrim last night, and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't quite in the 'smile the whole time I'm watching' class as the few I mentioned above. But it was one of the better movies of 2010 for me, for sure.

Personally I have heard mixed reviews of The Last Airbender, fans of the cartoon series hated the movie adaption, but people who have never seen the cartoon and only watched the film fond it to be enjoyable, as a fan of the cartoon I didn't enjoy the film, I'm all for M.Night taking creative liberties while adapting the movie but somethings I believe he took too far like the mispronunciation of Aang's name just irked my nerves throughout the movie. As for Oscar worthy films I'd have to nominate The Social Network, I can't get enough of how awesome this film is!

Yeah, I think it did come out in 2009, but I watched the DVD release in 2010 so I'm not sure if that still counts :p

As for how was his character butchered I just felt like the Sherlock homes that I knew (yes he is arrogant) but also intellectual, and for me this was not there in the movie. Also, a lot of the mystery that I'm used to from the novels just wasn't there, it was more actiony, turning Holmes into some sort of world saving-wolverine-action hero.

I felt like in the books Sherlock was a little more... (how can I put this?) refined. Its maybe a little unfair to say the character was 'butchered' but it was just a little off for me.

I think I preferred Jeremy Brett's portrayal but that's just me. I just believe I've seen better Sherlock Holmes on BBC or ITV.
