Stranded - Rated T for safety

Tom heard a voice crying, "Crap. What is with the horrible timing on my behalf? Why!?" Tom ran towards N as the dragon attacked him. Tom picked up N as he was running, and kept running through the ruins, trying to escape from the dragon, "Don't worry kid, it's all going to be all right."

 

N looked up.

"Prefect" he thought to himself. Little did the guy know he was oldr than him.

"Daddy??" Asked N wiping a tear from his eye.

Pretending to realise it wasnt his father N began hitting Tom

"I WANT MY DADDY!!" He cried

Rick gave a gasp as Life said their names. "Why, so sorry I forgot that to you humans Life and Death are the most important things in the world!" Life chuckled.

"Yet you all fall victim to me in the end" Death said. His voice was cool and crisp, yet implied an underlying malice. It also sounded like he had bad asthma, as he seemed to wheeze.

"I suppose you can hear him can you not ummmm....... Rick!" Life asked.

"Y...yes I can, why?" Rick replied.

"Well usually you would not hear him, as you are stilll alive, in some sense. But right now you hover between us, your guardians, and have a choice."

"How?"

"Well, you may die, or you may live again."

"But of course I would choose to live! So what's the catch?"

"Clever boy." Life looked most saddened. "Indeed there is a catch. You see, the nature of what has happened to you is somewhat, for want of a better word, perculiar. As standard, you could never be deleted and-"

"So that's what happened! The base was partially deleted! I wondered what had happened!"

"Please Rick, do not interrupt." Life said in a very kindly way. "As I was saying, Usually you would live, and then you would die. But because of something not even we understand, you were submitted as data to the computer. When you were deleted, your soul was technically not in the machine, and you did not die. Yet as you may have guessed, you were essentially destroyed, and therefore, are dead."

"But..... wait, what?"

"We do not understand it." Death interjected. "We wish we might help you but we cannot. And," He shot a look at Life from under his cloak. "We should not sidetrack you. The catch to living again, is that I shall not govern you any longer."

"You mean, I won't die?"

"Indeed," Life said. "You will be under my governing forever. Trust me, we do not know why, but by returning you, you shall break the cycle, and Death will not be able to guide you any longer. You will never grow older, and never die. At least not via natural causes. I assure you that a jump into a volcano will render you, and Death will guide you once more. But you will also not be able to take your own life, or be killed by any who do it because you wish it."

"But people seek a way to live forever! They've seeked it for thousands, perhaps millions of years! Why would I not want it!?"

Life looked incredibly sad. "Imagine it. Never able to grow old, to live life with those you love. Not able to die with them. Watching your children, and grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, grow up, then die. We can speak 285,678,454 languages, and I assure you nearly half of the worlds that speak them, wish to live forever. But truly think about it. The weight of knowledge on your shoulders. Would you be able to do it?"

Rick felt empty. He was right. How would he do it? He could never live like that but... he had no choice.

"I.....I have to. Not for me, for my friends, the people I love."

"Very well. We will guide you in physical form for perhaps several minutes, 10 at most. We will not allow you to be sundered during that period, you will still not have received your semi - immortality, and if you die then, we fear you may simply, evaporate into nothingness eternal. Where do you wish to come back? We can put you anywhere in the universe."

Ricks first thought was of course, home. He could see his family again! He could escape, despite the fate which he knew would befall them, and not him. But he didn't say that.

"To my new friends." He whispered. And he was there, a towering figure in front of him. A dragon! He didn't think and the dragon wopuld have crushed him if not for his guardians. Life whisked him up and set him down away from the scene. He turned. Wings had burst out of his shoulder blades, much like an angel. They were HUGE wings. The length of a bus, and as high too!

"Death! Deal with the stupid annoyance whilst I protect these people!" Life flew in front of Tom, and instead of being fried to a crispy mess, the flames the dragon breathed simply moved around Tom, and didn't seem to even effect Life, and his mighty wings.

Death hovered about a foot off the ground, and charged at the dragon. His slashed at it with his scythe. It's huge scaly hide tore open like a warm knife through butter. It roared and swiped at Death, without any luck. Death dodged it's blows as easily as if he was playing a game.

"I pity whoever governs you." Death laughed. "Maybe their Death will not mind so much."

He quickly sliced off the dragons head, though his scythe could never have cut through the whole neck in one slash by any physical means. Before it hit the ground, it seemed to simply vanish. It's body didn't stay long after either.

Life and Death swept over to Rick, and Life said "Our time alloted to us by the universe has expired. We shall see you again in Death. If it ever happens."

Death said something but it was hardly audible. Clearly Rick was fully returning to life now, and Death was too far away. "My companion bids you a good life." Life said. "And hopes you should one day meet us again. Now please excuse us. That girl over there seems to be staring" He pointed at Hope. "Fare thee well Richard!" And he simply dissapeared.

Rick took in that Hope was lying on the ground apparently in pain. "Hope!" He ran over to her. "He looked up at the others. Karia and Jesse were facing each other.

Karia had a look of great shock on his face. "Can't keep me down can you?" Rick taunted. "In fact you are rather bad at killing me. You want to kill me don't you? Well try again!"

Rick pushed Jesse aside, and stood in front of Karia. Karia drew his sword once again, and slashed across Rick's throat. Rather than fall to the ground, Rick just stood there. His throat healed over, and the blood stopped. "Wow, you must really have wanted to kill me, almost no effect at all." He ran a hand over his newly healed skin. "That's pretty neat actually. You see if you had any justifiable reason to kill me you probably would have done just then. Unlucky!" Rick started laughing so hard that he almost started crying.

 

>Umm... Yeah... Tom is far away from Jesse and Hope and Karia. Who is it you want to go to?<

Tom felt N hit him, "Kid, please stop. I will help you find your dad, but first we need to get out of here."

 

Kyuu felt so happy she could dance polka or do the somersaults, she felt she could do anything at the moment. She suddenly had new willpower, so much willpower! She smiled and said, "Rick! Thank god you're alive!"

 

After Tom hit N, he looked up at him thinking

"im going to kill you child!"

Rick looked behind him and realised Tom was no longer there, and that the scenery was completely different. Clearly Life and Death had somehow warped him to all his friends, a clash of some strange reality. He looked up at Karia.

He laughed "By breaking the chain. You see I figure that since you don't have a justifiable reason to kill me, and you just want to, you can't. Maybe there shouldn't be more justice in the world. Otherwise, I'd be dead right now." He gave another sadistic little giggle. "Oh my friend, you're a jackass, now if you'll excuse me." Rick walked over to Kyuu and layed his ahnd on her shoulder. "I'm not leaving you yet!" he winked.

He squatted down beside Hope again, and started humming. He looked back at Karia. The 'all-powerful' leader seemed to be barely restraining himself. He looked as if he wanted nothing better than to stab Rick through the head. Alot. He turned back to Hope.
"Are you ok? Come on, Hope, speak to me! Come on it's ok. It's just a scratch." Rick tried to stem the blood flow by wrapping one of his trouser legs, which he had torn off, around it. The material seemed to be holding for now. He turned back to Karia, though still squatting.

"I'd run now. I don't take kindly to those who hurt the people I lo-" he stopped and caught his tongue then continued very swiftly "-ike." And Karia gave him a look of discust. Rick was almost praying his face wasn't too readable. "Wanna test the person who cheated Death? Twice." Karia looked nervous now. Rick laughed again. "Oh and deletion the second time in fact. Not sure if you knew but most of your base has been deleted mate. Now please excuse me once more." Rick turned away and stood up.

Rick hoped this would work, and hoped some residue still lingered. He wished with all his might to be where Tom was, and shut his eyes. He opened them slowly.

Tom was in front of him, looking the other way. He sneaked up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder. "Heya Tom, do I have a habit of cheating death now?" He gave a cheesy smile.

Tom turned around, suprised to see Rick, "Well, technically we have both cheated death, although your methods are strange." Tom then looked at N, "Hey, could you take this kid? He is in the same predicament we are in. Oh, and if you are going to Jesse and all of them, please don't tell them I am alive. Aurora and I need to do some things and it would work better if everybody thinks I am dead." Tom handed N in Rick's arms. He walked to the nearly dead dragon, seeing the floppy disk that had a fragment of Aurora's power in it's claw, "I will be taking this, thank you very much."

 

Zelgius was wandering around in a mountain range overlooking the abandoned city Tom was in, "It is a shame that beast was too weak. I should find the other monsters."

Rick hefted the kid over his shoulder, not in the habit of making the ride as comfortable as Tom had. He nodded at Tom to show he would not tell and then watched Tom pick up the disc fragment. He still didn't know if he could get back. "Hmmm, Tom I've lost my bow. Do you know if there are any other weapons I might be able to have temporarily?"

 

N looked confused as he was handed to Rick.

perfect, i shall be joining the others. I already have there trust.... but i dont want to hurt them. I just want L and Ruii-Torii back :l

"A-are takeing me to my daddy?" N asked in his Shao-lolita voice.

He shifted positions on Ricks back, making it look like Rick was giving him a shoulder ride. He rested his head on Ricks, and acted asleep.

He cuddled his teddy close to him.

 

Tom looked at Aurora, "Any ideas?" Around Rick started to glow, and then his bow was floating in front of him, a full quiver and everything. She couldn't do much more for Rick, since she wouldn't be able to absorb her power for a little longer.

 

Kyuu crouched again next to Hope. "I'll help you, Hope, don't worry..." she tore a shred on her trousers leg and tied it on Hope's wound by shaking hands. The sight wasn't beautiful.

 

Rick reached out and grabbed his bow. He wasn't quite sure if it was real, but it was better than nothing. He nodded his thanks to Tom, and then to where he guessed Aurora was. He hefted the kid and willed to be back with the others. He opened his eyes and saw them in front of him. Hope was on the ground out cold, and Kyuu was tending to her. He smiled, and set the kid down. He collapsed onto the floor, writhing and screaming. He was clutching his heart.

The strain had been to great, he unwillingly greatly injured himself, he could die! But the pain passed as if it had never been. Although he felt weak as a kitten he was alive, that was something to be thankful for. Clearly this gift was to be used sparingly, and great distances were not something to try. He looked up at Karia.

"Go now, filth! I recovered from a heart attack, in mere seconds, you cannot kill me, as you simply hate me!" he shouted. He said the next as if he was quite tired of the whole thing. "Will you just piss off?"
