Has anyone actually watched this? I've been hearing all the hype and box office records being broken, but it still hasn't motivated me to go see it!

I saw it a few weeks back. It was definitely worth it to go and see, in my opinion. Well done, overall, though there were some things that they did that didn't totally enthuse me; but those were vastly outweighed by what I liked. Solid acting; good plot.

I absolutely agree with Become on this one. A few things I didn't like about the film, but overall the characters were really great and well acted, the original series was blended well with the new, and the sheer scope and scale of everything in the film made for some absolutely killer visuals. Definitely worth the watch!

Same. I keep thinking, "Eh, I should see Star Wars", and then I just go see something else instead. The more I hear about how much money it's making and how many people are going to see it, the less motivated I feel to go. I guess I like being contrary. >_<

I've heard that the plot is sort of a rehash of A New Hope. But I suppose if the acting in The Force Awakens is better than the acting in the prequels (which shouldn't be hard), it'll be worth seeing.

So I finally went and saw this movie. I have to say, it was definitely worth seeing. There's an awesome cast of new characters, especially Rey, who I just love, and for the most part, smart use of the old characters. The plot had some similarities to A New Hope, but it definitely wasn't a complete rehash like I'd heard it was, so I was very glad of that. Like others have said, there were a few minor things I didn't care so much for, but overall, I thought it was a good film. Incidentally, it's also the first Star Wars film I've seen in a theater, so that was kind of cool, too. :)

Just my two cents on it, . . . The plot is basically A New Hope retread. ( I'm sorry guys ) The Starkiller ( Death Star III ) base is just filler & not really not needed whatsoever. The action is great, but doesn't have that George Lucas kinetic energy that the old school movies had. Needed way more planets and environments. A little too much in-your-face fan-service. But Kylo Ren was pretty menacing & cool. I like Rey a lot as the heroine.

So overall, still very watchable and entertaining, if not bit overhyped.

I found Kylo Ren to be like a typical, self-absorbed, overly emotional teenager. Comparing the way he walks all slouched over and stomping to Vader's commanding presence just makes him seem like a child playing pretend. But his temper and impulsiveness do make him a dangerous enemy. It'll be interesting to see where they take this character.

I agree that the movie is a little overhyped. I was expecting that, given how many fans of the franchise there are. But you're right that the movie is still very watchable and worth a view.

Yeah, . . . some of that is certainly the point, as this is the ST. I found a lot of his character very similar to a young Anakin Skywalker ( hot headed, bratty, rash, egotistical & now he has a scar as well ).

It's interesting because Anakin / Vader wanted to be the most powerful Jedi ever and felt the Order was holding things back from him & then destroyed them. Kylo obviously distrusted his order, destroyed most of them & wants to be like his granddaddy. So in many ways he's like a child walking with his grandfather's shoes.

That's the interesting themes of the Sequel Trilogy.

The movie did a really nice job of showing this, I thought. For sure there are lots of intentional parallels between those two. I'm hoping they go somewhere different with Kylo Ren's character, though, and not let his story follow too closely to that we've already seen. But I suppose that's my hope for all these sequels.

Oh, for sure . . . . And It did as well. I was glad to see Disney got that right. I do wish they would consult with George more closely for future installments on those repeating & interwoven themes. I don't think GL has the piss & vinegar, nor the interest to ever direct a movie, however, no one is a better creative consultant and idea man, as well as the creator of this fantastic universe.

I'm sure they will, as much as one can anyway. Always more dramatic to have a main character die or sacrifice himself at the end of a trilogy. But yeah, I agree 100% about what your saying.

If you ask me, I think Kylo's got a trick or two up his sleeve in terms of character development.
