Hogwarts Glory Days
This is during the time between the first wizard war and second wizard war, in the late 80's.

Hogwarts is peaceful, not a lot going on, of course it has it's secrets, but it's just your average school of witchcraft and wizardry.

This is the story of starting out at Hogwarts for the first time, discovering secret treasures, forging new connections, and living life. These are the glory days of Hogwarts, make sure their glorious to you. ​

A girl with hair in loose pigtails, grey sweater, black pants, and black shoes. A blue Ravenclaw scarf clung close around her neck, as casual dress. She stopped getting up on her tippy toes as her 5'6" height she reached up another two shelves pulling down a book.

"A Guide to Advanced Transfiguration."

The girl pulled the book off the shelf and looked around the book shop. Having previously finished purchasing her other supplies for her sixth year at Hogwarts, she found a seat and sat down as she began flipping through the book for her transfiguration class, her personal favorite class.

 

Meanwhile, trailing behind.

"I need to get my wand and my books then I have-" The little girl, about 11 years old watched as her older brother ran into the candy store like a little kid.

"Hey!" She yelled after him crossing her arms. She looked to her right before seeing the wand shop and deciding to head on in to get her wand.

As she walked in she was surprised and marveled by the shelves upon shelves of wand cases. She was here once before as they dropped her older brother off when she was 6 to pick out his wand, a task better kept alone. She walked in walking up to the counter hitting a bell on the desk.

"Mr. Ollivander! Are you in?" She called out as a man came from around back.

"Oh hello there, based on those eyes, I'm guessing you're a Vance, I'm assuming you're the younger?" The man, Mr. Ollivander, spoke as the little girl smiled.

"That's right, sir, my name's April, April Vance." She said smiling.

"Pleasure to meet you, April, I'm assuming you're starting at Hogwarts for the first time."

"That's correct! My first year!"

"Well then, let's get started picking out your very first perhaps permanent wand!."

 

Chloe found herself already on chapter 4 of her new text book when suddenly something pulled her from her thoughts. She looked up hearing a loud commotion not too far from where she was sitting. She looked up and saw a boy probably her age on the ground with books messed around.

"Oh my- are you ok?" She got up quickly putting her text book back in the bag as she hurried over to the boy and knelt down to help him up.

She looked at him and recognized him. He was a Hufflepuff, and just by original guessing, this boy, Apollo Vance was a sixth year student like herself. He was the seeker and upcoming team captain for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team. He was also a bit of the class clown, popular funny guy around Hogwarts but usually stuck to the back in class off in his own little world as she sat front and center ready for classes.

"Took a mighty fall, huh?" She said trying to make a small joke out of the manner as she stacked some of the books again that were a mess on the floor around him.


April stepped out of the wand shop as she looked around sighing that chances of meeting up with her brother again were probably when they would be eating dinner at the local pub restaurant. She looked at her list then deciding to go to the book store and probably spend till that time to meet with her parents reading and getting class books.

 

"It is Chloe, you're correct, Chloe York, and you're Apollo Vance, a Hufflepuff, right?" She said as she eyed the books on the shelf that were placed wrong before reaching up and sliding a book out and placing it in the correct order.

She stepped back watching as he leaned beyond the bookshelf to call his little sister, April.

April, a short girl, 5'2" ran over bags galore in her hands.

"Apollo! While you went wondering off without me, I managed to get all of my things, that now everything I need to get is in this store. Have you even gotten your stuff?"

"First year student shopping, I remember those days. Well, I better let you go. It was nice talking to you." Chloe said as she allowed the brother-sister duo take over. She walked over and grabbed her bags heading to check out.

"So who was that?" April asked her older brother.

 

April watched the girl walk off.

"Seems cute." She poked fun at her brother as she went off to find her books.


Chloe stopped at the door glancing back before heading out and walking down the street.

The next day...

"Alright, keep together now, we don't need you getting lost." Kids were all over the place at Kings Cross Train Station in London. Hardly any muggles were mixed within the fairly large but quiet railroad as most trains thanks to the power of the Ministry of Magic, were re-routed to Victoria Station.

"9...10" She stopped at the third pillar before turning around seeing her parents.

"Oh dear! We're so proud of you!" Chloe smiled hearing her father say that for the millionth time that day as he walked up and hugged his daughter.

"Dad, it's just my sixth year, nothing too amazing."

"Oh she's just being humble. From being selected as prefect last year, one of the top students if now the top, I bet this year you'll be the one to let Ravenclaw win the house cup!" Her mother spoke next as they hugged.

"I love you, sweetie."

"I love you, too mum, and love you too, dad." Chloe stepped away from her parents as she smiled at them both.

"I'll be sure to write to you a lot!" She grabbed her cart before running as the column between 9 and 10.


Meanwhile,

"We love you both, very much!" April hugged her parents as she stood with her brother in King Cross Station.

"Now, Apollo, make sure you look after your sister. Make sure you make her at home. If you need anything know you can always write to us!" While her parents ramble April looked out over the train station. That's when she noticed the girl from the day before again, Chloe was who Apollo called him.

"Alright, we get it, Mum, Dad!"

"Be careful, both of you!" Their parents said hugging their kids one last time.

"You ready?" Apollo looked to his younger sister.

"It's that way!" She said hurrying on ahead excited.

"Wait how do you know?" Apollo ran after her as they got to the platform entrance and proceeded to enter.

"I saw that girl yesterday, from the shop enter." She said on the other side as she quickly marveled at the sight of the Hogwarts Express.

"What girl?" Apollo asked not remembering exactly but letting it go as his sister marveled at the train.

"Yo, Apollo!" Apollo looked and saw some of his friends before turning to his sister.

"Hey, you gonna be a'right?" April looked back at him and nodded.

"Alright, I'll see you next time at the Hufflepuff common room." April smiled. The two had it set, just like her brother she was going to be a Hufflepuff, she was sure of it as she boarded the train and watched her brother go off with some friends.

"Alright, listen up!" Chloe sat on the Hogwarts express as the train moved through the countryside.

"We have an exciting year ahead of us all. It's important that we all work together!" A girl, the Head Girl, spoke after the Head Boy brought together their attention. They were an unlikely team, Bill Weasley a boy from Griffindor and a girl from Hufflepuff.

"I know you're all excited as we are. With us all assisting our House's Heads and Professor Dumbledore." The boy, Weasley, spoke.

A loud train whistle was blown and the train curved around the bend, all of the Prefects in the caboose. They glanced out the window as Hogwarts came into view. All the prefects smiling proudly at their beloved school.

Chloe looked at it though wondering what adventure she may find that new year.



Meanwhile,

"Look! There it is!" April sat in a carriage car for the First Years. Three other students occupied it. Some tried to make conversation with her, but as she was preoccupied with her book,they stopped starting to ignore her.

When one of the boys exclaimed she even jumped up shocked and with the three others jumped up to look outside.

"That's it!"

"It's Huge!"

"Hogwarts!" She even exclaimed as the other three students looked at her in shock for her speaking but all smiled evident they would most likely be Griffindors or hopefully like her, a Hufflepuff.



A final train whistle was blow as the massive train pulled into the train station.

"First year students over here!" Chloe stepped out of the train as she heard Hagrid direct first year students. She smiled before following all of the prefects who would be taking the fastest mode of transportation while the rest of their classmates took carriages.

"Are you all ready?" Weasley asked as they all gathered around their own personal broomsticks in hand. "Let's go." The prefects all took off as they soon landed on a landing that led into the prefects' bathroom.

"Alright you have 10 minutes to get ready and be down in the great hall."

Chloe didn't waste time as she changed into her robes and did her hair. All that was missing was her prefect hat.

She looked in the mirror before grabbing her hat and heading out.

She and the other prefects walked into the great hall taking their seats towards the back of each of their house tables just as the other students entered.



Meanwhile, April followed a crowd up the stairs. She was towards the back of the group.

"Are you excited?"

"We're going to be getting sorted next." April answered realizing a girl spoke to her.

"I know, my names Kate, I hope to be a Ravenclaw, how about you?" April smiled at the girl.

"April, hopefully, Hufflepuff with my big brother. He's the team captain of their quidditch team."

"Oh? You're Apollo's sister. My brother is Slytherin's captain, I've heard Apollo's pretty good, I've also heard other things, but I've learned not to trust my brother word for word." The other girl said when suddenly a woman, Minerva McGonagall started to greet the students and explain what would be happening next.

Being in the back, April had a hard time hearing and seeing, but she didn't care, she knew what she wanted and she knew if she could just will it, she'd be able to be a Hufflepuff.

The crowd started moving in.

Chloe turned her attention to the door as Professor McGonagall led the students in. She smiled as they passed.

"There she goes again, Mumma Ravenclaw looking for her new baby's." Another Ravenclaw prefect joked about Chloe.

"I can't help it, it's why I want to be a Professor one day." She said looking at the other prefects before turning her attention back.

"Alright gather along here." Professor McGonagall spoke, "Now before we get started, Professor Albus Dumbledore would like to say a few words."

April watched as the quite well know Hogwarts Headmaster stood up.

"I have a few notices to bring to attention. For first year students, the Dark Forest is strictly forbidden for all students. Also a reminder that the third floor corridor is off limits unless you wish to die a painful death. Thank you."

"Now then, I will call your name, and I will place the sorting hat upon your head and you will be sorted into your houses."

April stood there a nervous wreck. She listened to names be called and students be sorted.

"April Vance." She gasped holding her breath nervous as she made her way to the front and sat down on the stool.

"Oh! You're a bright one, very intelligent, a tad shy. You're very loyal, so it better be," She relaxed hearing loyal and thought of being in Hufflepuff but what came out of the sorting hat's mouth shocked her, "Ravenclaw!" She was utterly shocked as she moved off the stool.

The Ravenclaw table clapped and were excited to welcome their newest member, but Chloe sat there observing the girl, who was the younger sister of Apollo Vance who she met formally for the first time the day before. She glanced over at the Hufflepuff table searching the crowd for the face of Apollo to see his reaction even know the rest of the table clapped as well for the new student.

Her attention was pulled though when she heard a sharp clank.

"Let the feast begin!" Dumbledore announced as the food appeared on all of the tables.

 

April saw her brother and saw him wink. She still didn't like it.

"Hey aren't you eating?" A boy asked April as she looked up at him before getting food for herself.



Chloe finished eating before getting nudged by another prefect.

"You want to do the tour to the tower, we'll go help move their belongings." The other Ravenclaw prefects said.

"Alright, but I'll take night duty then."

"Thanks, Chloe." She watched as all the other prefects left with some of the upperclassmen students also left the Great Hall.



April sat at her seat wanting to run over to her brother and upon seeing confusion with the upperclassmen getting up and going she quickly ran over to where her brother was as.

"Apollo!" She exclaimed, "I don't want to be a Ravenclaw, I want to be with you, where are you going to be at?" April bombarded her brother with a million questions.

 

April stepped away looking at him before going back to the table.

Chloe stood up tapping on her glass.

"Ravenclaw, first year students, if I could just have your attention for a moment. My name is Chloe York, I'm one of Ravenclaw's prefects. If you could gather up. I'm going to show you to the dormitories." Chloe spoke, "Now follow me and stick close."

Chloe led them when they got to the moving stairs.

"Ravenclaw follow me please, keep up!" She exclaimed as she passed Bill Weasley explaining the moving stairwells with Griffindor students. She got down to the landing that led into a hallway.

"Back there you may have noticed, those are the infamous moving staircases. Now follow me."

She led the group as they walked past the Transfiguration courtyard towards another doorway into a tower.

"Keep up now." She walked into the large circular room with spiral staircase as she walked up the staircase that led several stories up. The tower was fairly dark with a few torches on the wall when they got to the top of the stairs there was a door with a golden eagle knocker.

Chloe laid her hand on the knocker and knocked as the Eagle's eyes glowed and a voice spoke.

"First think of the person who lives in disguise,
who deals in secrets and tells naught but lies.
Next, tell me what's always the last thing to mend,
the middle of middle and end of the end?
And finally give me the sound often heard during the search for a hard-to-find word.
Now string them together, and answer me this,
which creature would you be unwilling to kiss?"

"Spy-der." Chloe spoke as the door opened up and Chloe walked into the large circular room with blue and silver furnishings all around. Moonlight shined into the room as it lit the room.

"Gather on in. As you all just witnessed, Ravenclaw tower does not use passwords, but the knocker will ask a riddle. You must solve the riddle in order to be let in. The knocker though will only speak for those who are of Ravenclaw or a professor of Hogwarts." Chloe spoke.

"Back there in that cutout bookshelf space by the statue of our founder, Rowena Ravenclaw, you will find two doors. They lead to the dormitories. Girls take the door on the right, boys on the left. First and Second years are in the last doors at the end of the path. Most of your belongings should be placed in the rooms." Chloe spoke as the students scurried off.

April stood hesitantly looking around in awe. The room was large the domed ceiling above had stairs painted on it like the nighttime sky, meanwhile outside a moon could be seen shining in.

"Come along then, off to your rooms." The other prefects entered as the last lingering students, including April, scurried off.

"Chloe, you alright taking the night rounds?" The prefects asked as Chloe nodded.

"I'm positive, I'm just going to change out of these clothes first." They all nodded as they all went off. The female prefects going to the very first girls room, the prefects girl's room.


April got into the room as the girls also began to get into bed after a long and exhausting night.

"Say, April, isn't it? Aren't you going to bed?" The girl next to April, a second year asked.

"Yes, just going to read some before I turn in." April said as she sat awake observing her surroundings.

The second years and first years were all turned in as April sat awake. She sat there reading for two hours till she knew everybody was asleep.


"Say Chloe, have you been doing more reading up on the animagus?" A girl asked as Chloe began to change.

"I have, I think I should be able to accomplish it this year, I'm going to get help from Professor McGonagall, but I think I may now get it."

"What form is your mind pulling towards?"

"I'm really not honestly certain. Something fur though, I've started to manage to pull off gaining fur, though it's not real pleasant. It's difficult."

"Right on you for doing it, I could never do it."

"I don't know how I'd feel turning into an animal honestly, when McGonagall sits in her classroom staring us all down as a cat, I just find that too creepy for me. Maybe that's why she does it. You though, Miss. Transfiguration Class Expert, you'll pull it off."

"Hopefully so."

Chloe talked with the other prefects before they turned in for bed. She changed into more comfortable clothes, a blue sweater, black pants, black shoes, and her robe. She pulled the braids out of her hair as she ran the brush through her hair, until a noise pulled away her attention.


April snuck down the stairwell as silent as possible until she heard kicked a rock. April stopped as she heard it hit against the prefects door. April worried quickly got to the bottom of the stairs and hid around the Rowena statue.

Chloe moved towards the door putting her ear up against it standing very silently she listened.

April stood there for forever before thinking it safe she headed towards the last door she left closing the door as silently as possible. When she heard it clank shut though silently, she ran down the stairs as fast as possible.

When Chloe heard the clank she quickly grabbed her wand and left the room. She hurried out of the common room carefully shutting it silently when she noticed the other girl, the first year, April Vance, running down the spiral stairs unaware that she was noticed.


April got to the bottom and followed her brother's instruction going to the meeting spot he told her to go.

"Apollo!" She exclaimed in a whisper.

 

April ran over very quickly. She jumped on him giving him a hug.

"Apollo, what am I to do?" She cried into his shoulder. "I want to be a Hufflepuff or go home..."


Chloe Stopped hiding behind a doorway when she heard the student speaking.

"April..." Chloe whispered leaning out past the door frame and looked even further seeing Apollo, her older brother.

 

April listened to him tears in her eyes as she smiled.

Soon though she panicked as he said somebody was there. She stepped to the side as she watched him pull out his wand.

"Relax, I'm not going to turn you in." Chloe stepped out from her hiding spot walking towards the duo.

"Apollo, fancy running into you, second day in a row." She smiled before looking at April.

"I'm so sorry, I'm-"

"April? It's ok..." Chloe said kneeling in front of the girl looking up at her, laying a hand on her shoulder.

"Now what's this about wanting to be a Hufflepuff?"

"My brother's... in the..."

"He's a Hufflepuff, a pretty fantastic Hufflepuff. But you don't want to live in his shadow your entire life, I bet the Sorting Hat saw that, it wants you to forge your own path. Plus you're brilliantly smart being in Ravenclaw, though I do see your loyalty as a Hufflepuff. Ravenclaw though is where you can make your own way." Chloe said to the girl.

"Really? But I don't know anybody."

"Well, then let me introduce myself." Chloe stood up smiling extending your hand. "Chloe York. Sixth year Ravenclaw, Prefect, Chaser, and top of the class."

"April... April Vance!" April said smiling taking her hand.

"I bet you and I will get to be good friends, as I'm sure you'll find more friends here at Hogwarts."
