Dean Ackels has a few problems. A few big, life-shattering, complicated kind of problems. Problem number one, he's recently found out that he's not entirely... human. A shapeshifter, in fact, and consequently thrown into the secret world of monsters and things you've only seen in your dreams. Number two, he's just now seventeen and getting ready to be a senior in high school; which means somehow he has to hide his identity. Number three, there is a century long war going on between Vampires, Werwolves and Shapeshifters. Number four, Luna Silver, Dean's best friend, is the prophesied 'wild power' said to bring an end to the war.

CAUGHT UP IN CIRCLES, CONFUSION IS NOTHING NEW.

But that's not all. Luna is completely unaware of her so called 'fate.' The Vampires and Shapeshifters, and Werwolves are all after her, though for very different reasons. The Werwolves believe that Luna's power will end not only their war between Vampires, Shapeshifters and werwolves, but also their secret lifestyle. Basically, they want to rule the world. Vampires on the other hand, are fighting to keep the world from falling under the Werwolves's command. They look for the 'wild power' to help to destroy all Werwolves. The Shapeshifters are more neutral. They search for Luna to keep their world secret and to keep the 'wild power' safe from the war and to eventually end it. That's where Dean's life is turned upside down, inside out, and every other direction imaginable.

FLASHBACKS, WARM NIGHTS, ALMOST LEFT BEHIND.

The Vampires have managed to find Luna first, however, until her eighteenth birthday, her powers are inactive. She is to live a normal life, guarded in secret at all times. When the Shapeshifters decide to side with the Vampires, they realize something crucial: Dean, Luna's very best friend, is in fact just celebrated his seventeenth birthday, meaning he will soon transition into his true wolf self. Over the Summer after Junior year he leaves on 'vacation' with his 'uncle', which was code for being trained and taught all about what was to be his new life as the protector. He left a lanky young boy, and now back in time for the school year to start,Dean shocks everyone. He's grown four inches, and put on at least thirty pounds of muscle. Perfect bodyguard material. Luna's bodyguard, to be precise.

IF YOU FALL, I WILL CATCH YOU, I'LL BE WAITING.

    So now, Dean has a few more problems. First, there's man kind's fate in the hands of an inexperienced, newborn shapeshifter. He has to somehow manage to keep Luna alive (with the help of various vampires and other shapeshifters) yet in the dark about the situation. He has to go on with life as if everything were normal, but remain on guard and ready to strike at all times. Homework, football games, school dances, the whole nine yards. All the while he is to remain covert and completely composed. And as if life isn't difficult enough, he has another problem;

    TIME AFTER TIME.

Dean thinks he might be in love...
    with his best friend.

    |Luna Silver*Hope*|

It was midnight but Luna was still awake, sitting on her bed, leaning against the window right next to it and staring at the full moon outside and the patterns it’s reflection made in the lake she could see from there. The distorted vision of the moon and stars in the waves captivated her tired eyes, but unfortunately let her mind wander. Maybe it was just nerves for her first year of high school, or the strange dreams that seemed to attack her mind every night for the past few nights that kept her awake now. But deep down she knew it was more than that, she was nervous about going to school again tomorrow and seeing him again. Dean hadn‘t written to her all summer! Not since that last week of school when he was acting so strangely. He was being so distant and he always looked on edge, like something was bothering him. That wasn‘t like him and it had worried her a lot. She remembered trying to ask him what was wrong but he seldom answered her calls at the time. Then, there was that last day of school. He walked her home from school, like usual. Usually, the two of them would have talked the whole way home about just about anything. Luna had hoped that the last day of school would raise Dean spirits just a little bit but he was still the same. He had tried to smile at her attempts at light hearted humor but it hadn‘t helped any. Then, when they got to the house, he stopped at the porch and told her that he would be gone all summer and that he probably wouldn‘t be able to keep in touch with her. She tried to get him to spill about where he was going but all she got was vague answers and awkward silences. And then, he was just gone.

The next morning, he wasn’t at the beach where the two usually met to hang out on their free weekends. His cell phone had been disconnected and he wouldn’t answer any of her emails. At first, she was a bit upset about the absence of her friend. He was pretty much the only person in their smallish senior class that she got along with that well. She was hurt that he didn’t trust her enough to let her know where he was going. And she always wondered if he was in some kind of danger. She tried to make excuses for herself to explain where on earth he could have gone on such short notice. Maybe he was just trying to be a pain and make her worry, if so then he would have texted her and let her know he was ok eventually… right? Or maybe he was in real danger, like he was in the witness protection program or had done something really stupid, like joined the CIA or something.
Despite how hard she had tried to reason with herself why Dean was acting so strangely, nothing was making any sense and her emotions toward Dean had turned into annoyance and confusion. What could he have possibly done that would make him in big enough trouble that he would just up and leave without telling even her where he was going?! Dean was a bit of a trouble maker sometimes but he was smarter than that at least. Was he just screening her calls because he was tired of her? Maybe she just smelled weird or acted too clingy. That would explain his absent attitude just before the random disappearance.

The fact that her arm was freezing from the cold window pulled her back to the present. She shivered and shifted her weight away from the window, now leaning on the wall behind her and rubbing her numb arm to bring back circulation. With a sigh, she thought about school tomorrow. What would happen if she actually did see her long departed best friend tomorrow at school? Would he even care?

She wasn’t sure when she had actually fallen asleep amidst her wandering thoughts but it seemed like she had only just barely closed her eyes for a second before she heard a strangely familiar sound pulling her back out of the deep. As she gained more consciousness, she realized it was the radio that she had set to turn on at six o’ clock in the morning as her alarm. She opened her eyes, her back ached from sleeping still leaning against the wall behind her. With a light yawn, Luna reached out her hand and hit the power button on the alarm before she stood up from her bed. She could hear her dad already up downstairs, he would probably be gone before she could have time to get down the steps though. He had to be at work at seven and he really never did wait to say goodbye to her in the mornings save for special occasions.
Luna was ready for school in no time at all. She pulled her hair back into a ponytail and tried her best to do her eye makeup in a way to hide the bags under her eyes that were a dead giveaway that she hadn’t slept much at all last night. Just as she had predicted, Luna heard the front door to the house close and then complete silence again as her dad left home and drove away in his old truck. But she wasn’t very far behind her dad. She pulled her bag over her shoulder, it was pretty light for now seeing as she didn’t have any school books yet. All she had in there was her pencil, her portfolio of drawings she made when she was bored, and a few notebooks.

After taking one last look in the mirror and being at least slightly ok with her appearance, Luna opened the door and headed downstairs and out the front door. It was a bit chilly outside but not too bad. As she walked to the school, Luna tried to occupy her mind with other things besides BOY and her worries about what she would do if she saw him today. But normal cliche girl thoughts like, ‘I wonder if that one guy will like my hair today’, or thoughts about her love for the latest boy band didn’t come easy for her. ‘Ugh! I’m such a spaz!’ she thought to herself as she got to the end of the final block between her house and the school and then crossed the street and then entered the school yard.

It was already packed with students, most of them people she recognized from the year before but she noticed a few new faces. That wasn't exactly surprising, though. Their city was gradually growing over the years and consequently, so was their school. After two years of new students, Luna was pretty much use to the new faces on the first day of school. For a while, she just stood there trying to look around for a familiar face… anyone really, to walk up to so she wouldn't look COMPLETELY oblivious. Though she wasn't finding anyone she would like to talk to. With a reluctant shrug, Thea walked straight up the sidewalk toward the front doors. She was still maybe twenty minutes early for her first class to start but she could at least find her locker and stuff like that so she could occupy herself with something besides standing around here looking like a daft creep while staring everyone down looking for B- Anyone she recognized.

Meanwhile she was thinking to herself that if she did in fact see Dean today, nothing would change. She would act normal around him, though of course she would demand to know what his problem was and give him a piece of her mind for stupidly not calling her all summer.

She had just gotten up the second step in front of the double doors of the school when someone coming down the steps, who obviously hadn't been watching where he was going either, bumped shoulders with her. The contact with the other person was surprisingly painful and strong, like she had run into a boulder or something! And at the speed she had been walking without realizing it, the impact had caused quite a reaction. With a startled gasp, Luna dropped her bag. Her pencil, portfolio, and notebooks fell out and her portfolio fell open, her drawings scattering across the steps.
Luna quickly snatched up her drawings and portfolio before standing up and drawing a breath to snap at the person who had bumped into her. Her breath was cut short when she found herself face to face with a ghost from the past. The surprise caused her to drop her things yet again, and again they were scattered across the pavement but she wasn't in as much of a rush to pick them up this time. She was a bit too distracted by the person in front of her. He had gotten a lot taller since she had last seen him. He had also gotten a lot bigger than her memory gave him credit for. Had she been seeing him from a longer distance, she probably wouldn't have even recognized him. Heck she barely recognized him right now! But there was no mistaking his eyes or that slightly crooked smile. All the things she thought she would have told him all melted and blended in with her surprise. “Dean!?” she gasped.

    |Dean Ackels*Kairu*|

Dean stood there, a door had never looked so menacing before. But it wasn't the door that sent chills down his spine. It was the thought of the reaction he would get from the person behind it. Luna Silver. Dean one and only best friend. He hadn't seen her all summer, and he had left without a proper explanation. But the worst part was he hadn't contacted her at all. She had every right to be annoyed or angry at him. And he would fully understand if she didn't want to be friends with him any longer.

I guess ill leave it until tomorrow he thought. Dean then sighed and walked away from the house. After he arrived home he checked his emails again. There was plenty of unopened messages from Luna. Dean spent most of the night reading different emails of little situations Luna had gotten herself into in his absence. And at the end of every message was a little piece from her saying that she hopes he is doing well and hopes to hear from him soon. Dean's eyes grew sore from looking at the screen in a dark room for a extended period of time. He checked the time on the computer. "3.43am" he said aloud. Dean closed his mail and shut-down the computer. "Dang" Dean said as he looked as to why the computer hadn't shut down. Installing updates... 6 of 29. "Obnoxious machine" Dean said to himself. "I guess that's what I get for not using you all summer" HE laughed to himself.

Dean walked into the kitchen to look for something small to eat. Empty. Dean grabbed his wallet from his bag that he had still to unpack and walked out the door. Dean was busy thinking of excuses that could justify him going out at near four am to go to a shop. Thinking of nothing Dean decided he would handle the situation if and when it presented itself. Dean arrived at the 24 hour shop that wasn't to far away from his house. At least he didn't think it was that far but he had never actually walked to it.

"Picking up some last minute things for school?" The cashier asked as Dean walked into the store. "Last minute school stuff?" Dean repeated. "Yeah, doesn't school start again tomorrow?". "Oh, yeah. To be honest id completely forgotten about school" Dean said dumbly. "Haha" The cashier laughed. "That good of a summer huh?" "Yeah, something like that" Dean said with a smile before walking off to get some food and some notebooks and pens.

Dean arrived home and opened up the closet were he would always leave his bag when he got home from school. "Still there" He said with a smile. After Dean had emptied the lasts years books onto the table be began flicking through them. He picked one up that he remembered he and Luna had been doodling in. He smiled as he read the small messages that she would write in his book and then get annoyed when he would try to write a response in hers.

"Dean is that you?" Dean heard sleepily from up stairs. "Yeah Mom. Its me" He answered. "What are you doing at this flipping hour of the morning. Have you been to sleep yet?" "Yeah I just woke up. I guess im a little nervous for school" he lied. "Well try and go back to sleep. There's another two hours before school starts" "Ok Mom. Sleep well" Dean heard the footsteps of his mom walking back into her room. I guess I should get a little sleep Dean thought to himself. "Thank heavens that computers off" Dean joked to himself as he lay down on his bed. He thought of her one last time. Her smiling face been the last image he saw before he fell into a light sleep.

Beep..Beep. "Ah damned alarm" Dean said as he threw it against the wall to make it stop. You see he used to have a regular alarm that you hit the off or snooze button, but when he broke it by throwing it against the wall his mother thought it would be wiser to get him an alarm that can't break. Dean was laying on his stomach and pushed himself up with his arms. That training really did pay off Dean smiled to himself. Dean got himself ready in a red t-shirt with a blue line the went down each hem of the shirt and a pair of jeans. After he had put his socks and shoes on he walked into the kitchen to see that his mother had set the books he had thrown out into a neat pile on the table. It wasn't strange that someone's mother wanted the house to be neat, but was strange was that everything had to be in perfect order. Smaller books on the top with the bigger ones on the bottom. Although since Dean had grown up with it he didn't take much notice to it.

"I'm heading to school now Mom" Dean called to her from the table while putting the newly bought notepads and pens into his bag. "Have a good day hun" Deans mom said as she came to give him a hug. "My you certainly have grown over the summer haven't you" Dean gave one of his crooked smiles. "I remember you used to be able to put your arms fully around me" Dean joked. "And I also used to be able to look you in the eyes without straining my neck" She laughed. "Ill see you later mom" Dean said as he hugged her again and walked out the front door.
I wonder if anyone will recognize me Dean thought to himself. He had changed quite abit since they had last seen him. And he was pretty sure there would be some new faces around. But of course they wouldn't recognize him. Well we'll soon find out Dean thought as he saw the school gates come into view.

"Mister Ackels" Dean was brought back to reality from an unfamiliar voice. "You are to leave your bag at the front hall and report to the principals office upon arrival." "But I haven't arrived yet" Dean said noting that he was still outside of school property. "Don't get funny with me young man, Just do as your told" "Yes sir" Dean said jokingly as he saluted to the man. Dean walked upto the school gates and could feel eyes watching him. He figured it was because of the strange encounter he had just had. Dean climbed several sets of stairs to get to the principals office. He was on the floor were the principals office was located. He just needed to go down a corridor and then.... "Rahh!" Dean suddenly heard an attacker rushing him from behind. Instinctively Dean turned around hands already reaching out to grab his attacker. But the attacker was faster than Dean had anticipated and he was caught slightly by surprise, His attacker threw his fists down towards Dean head. Dean grabbed the man's fists with one hand directing them even further away from himself and drove his other hand into the attackers kidney. It didn't do much damage in the long run of things but it hurt a hell of alot in that instant that the attacker fell to the floor with his hands on his side. Dean heard another set of steps behind. Dean turned ready for another fight. "Well done, my student" Dean heard his teacher say. "Master?" Dean said surprise in his voice. "I did tell you I would be testing you to make sure you were up for the job" His master reminded him. "Then he is..." "The same man who told you to meet your principal. I was a little disappointed that you didn't see him for what he truly was, but you seem to be able to handle yourself well in a fight."" I was taught by the best" Dean smiled. "That you were." His master smiled. "But you haven't forgotten why you were trained do you?" "No, I know full well why I was trained." "Good, you must insure the protection of the Wild Power and..." "Her name is Luna" Dean said annoyed. "What?.. Oh, very well, It is your job to protect 'Luna' and make sure that she does not fall into the hands of the.." "Does not fall into the hands of the Werwolves, I know". Dean's master just smiled. "Well then good luck Dean, I'm sure ill be seeing you again." And just as quickly as they had come the man and his master were gone. "So I'm guessing that the principal didn't really want to see me?" Dean said sarcasticly.
"Well, I guess ill go get my bag then" Dean said as he began descending all the stairs again.

Dean was thinking about what his master had just said to him. He knew he had to protect Luna, Even if it meant giving up his life for her. And of course he was more than willing to do so. But what if she wouldn't forgive him for not contacting her all summer. It would be alot harder to protect her if she wanted nothing to do with him. But in any case..
Deans thoughts were interrupted when someone knocked into him. At first he didn't see who it had been as they were already picking up there papers and it hadn't crossed his mind to see who it was. And since the person was almost done picking up the papers he figured he would apologize to them when they stood up again. Luna! Dean's mind shouted as he saw her face, and her papers fell once again. "Let me get those for you" Dean said with his crooked smile as he bent down to pick up her papers and folders. "I see your still doing your drawings" he said admiring some of her latest work.

    ****

Luna nodded, quickly getting over her surprise and her original feelings were back. "Yes." she realized which picture he was holding in particular was one of a dream she recently had, the one that she kept having that kept her awake. It was an illustration of what appeared to be a war. She stood directly under a wall of a cliff that lead stories up above her head. On top of the cliff were what seemed to be hundreds of very large wolves that were watching her from above. On her other side, on the same level as her were what appeared to be people but there were wolves among them. Behind her were bats in the sky, just by the moon which was extremely huge. The strangest in the picture was the menace on the faces of the bats, wolves, and wolf-like people. All looked at each other with such hate that it looked like they were going to jump across the paper and attack each other. But Luna just stood in the middle, hugging her books against her chest with a very innocent look on her face. She didn't even notice the war that was about to break that she was directly in the path of in all three different directions. Her shadow which stretched across the ground before her was in a different shape than the girl that stood above it. Her shadow had wings. There was a person standing next to Luna in the picture. It was Dean. He was standing next to her. He didn't look near as frightening as those that surrounded them but he didn't look quite as oblivious as Luna. The dream had been a really confusing one that Luna didn't remember very well. She remembered flashes of sights like blood, people who were extremely pale and terrifying but beautiful at the same time. Dean was in the dream as well. He looked angry about something one moment and she also remembered him looking scared, confused, or in pain. The dream was like being in the center of a war but not knowing how she got there or what she was supposed to do. She didn't know what Dean had to do with it either she had originally just passed it off as worry for school to start. Now that Dean was looking at it she got a lot embarrassed and pulled it away from him, closing her folder "Yes and you know how I don't like them looked at before they are completed." it was partially a lie but she didn't care. She felt like slapping him but she hugged him instead "Where the heck were you all summer anyway?"

"Oh..." Was all Dean could say as Luna hugged him. He had gone through this scenario in his mind several times, and even though this was one of the situations he thought up, it was the one that he felt most unlikely to happen. Coming back to reality Dean returned the hug Luna was giving him.

"My uncle had taken me to his house up in the mountains for the summer" Dean lied. "There wasn't any reception out there and the old coot doesn't have internet. Sorry I couldn't keep in contact" He apologized to her.

It wasn't all a lie, there was no reception, and his 'uncle' didn't have the internet. But Dean could have easily used his powers to go somewhere that did have reception or internet. And Dean had originally planned to do that, even against the warning from his master. On the very first night Dean prepared to leave when his Master had fallen asleep to write an email to Luna explaining were he was and apologizing for leaving it on such short notice to tell her. As Dean stepped outside his tent a rope gripped his ankle and flung him into the air, leaving him hanging upside down.

"Crazy old coot" Dean said as he cut himself down. Landing on his feet Dean continued forward looking for more traps his master may have set. He saw a trip wire and examined were it went. It lead to a lever that when the wire was pulled it would release the lever dropping a...tree on top of him? Damn he's crazy Dean thought to himself as he stepped over it only to realize a second to late that there was a second wire. Dean barely escaped the tree.

"And that is why you need training" Deans master spoke to him from inside his tent.

Dean then returned to his tent reluctantly laying down in bed he could hear the muffled chuckle of his master.

Dean snapped out of the memory and released Luna. "Are we good?" He asked her giving one of his crooked smiles.

Luna sighed a bit reluctantly. "Wait just a sec." she said as she put her books back in her bag and placed it back in it's original place on her shoulder. Then she hit Dean, not really all that hard at all mostly just to let out her frustrations but she was pretty sure he didn't even feel it he was a lot stronger than her that was obvious. "I really couldn't resist that." she said with a slight smile. Dean was her best friend he pretty much knew she couldn't stay mad at him it was rather impossible for her, one of her fatal flaws.
"So you spent all summer up in the mountains with your grandfather?" she said skeptically "Must've been sooomme camping trip." she wasn't sure if she sounded sarcastic or smart alek so she decided to assume she sounded like both.

"I don't blame you" Dean said smiling. He was glad that he had gotten off so lightly. "And no it was my uncle." He said sticking his tongue out at her. It was an extremely childish gesture but Dean couldn't help acting that way when he was around Luna. She seemed to emit happiness from her very bean.

"And yeah it was quite eventful. We went hunting and fishing. And because I was such a good boy he let me collect wood for the camp fire." He joked again.

Dean wasn't really messing about the fire wood part. His master had let him get it. But instead of a couple of logs it would be a small tree. He would then have to cut it up using a blunt axe. It was a hell of alot of work but Dean was happy with the results.

"Should we head to assembly together?" Dean asked Luna.

Luna frowned, not remembering anything about an assembly. Then she realized it was the first day of school so of course there was going to be an assembly. Feeling a bit stupid, she was glad she hadn't said anything about it. "Sure." she said with a shrug as she noticed that students were already starting to walk back inside. She wondered if the school bell had rang, she hadn't heard it. She noticed a few girls walking past them on their way into the school the blonde one leading the group checked Dean out on her way in. Luna gave her a strange look, this girl's name was Stacy and she had been one to mock Luna on a daily basis. The two didn't get a long at all and even since grade school Stacy had been known to publicly embarrass Luna or say mean things to her and also to Dean by default because of his friendship with her. Luna wondered if Dean had noticed but the blonde and her little group of friends all just walked inside after that giggling loudly. Luna sighed, deciding not to say anything. "Let's go." she said with a shrug "We don't want to be late on the first day." she said a bit sarcastically "So do you care to explain to me this change.." she said as they walked "You know steroids are bad for you right?" she joked.

She didn't notice one of her drawings that she hadn't seen when she was picking up her things. It was a very simple one, just a simple attempt where she drew a child's hand held in the hands of some adult's. It was for an assignment last year for her art class but she liked it a little so she kept it until now. As it lay in the grass in the now abandoned front yard of the school, the edges singed as though on fire burning through until it outlined the child's hand and that's all that was left and then that too became ash. Luna's artwork blew away with the morning wind in that state, scattering through the grass and across the street, forgotten.

Unknown to Luna Dean had seen Stacy looking at him. His training had taught him to know about other peoples movements without having to look directly at them. He smiled at her sarcastic comment about being late and then said "Oh I know but have you seen these results?!" He said jokingly flexing his arm. Something suddenly caught Dean's attention and he began looking around, unsure of what he was looking for he began to look for anything that was amiss.

"Hurry along you two" a teacher called to Luna and Dean. Dean took one last look around before turning around to Luna who he noticed was giving him a strange look, "I thought I saw something" He said with a smile.

As Dean and Luna walked into the assembly hall it was already packed with students chatting away as they discussed what they had done during the summer. Dean saw to free seats about four rows away from the front. Luna seemed to walk past the people effortlessly without disrupting another student. Dean on the other hand stood on a couple of toes and nearly fell onto one guy. Once he had finally sat down next to Luna he was about to talk to her when the principal stood up and asked for everyone's attention.

"First off I would like to welcome you all back, I'm sure you all enjoyed your summers" The principal began. Dean wasn't really listening because the chatter of Stacy and her friends had caught his attention. They were talking about Luna. No no normal human would be able to hear there conversation unless they were right next to them but well, Dean was no normal human. What they were saying about Luna wasn't very nice and that annoyed Dean. One of the girls then pulled something out of there back and pored some water from a bottle on it. Dean realized what they were planning on doing so he put his arm around Luna's shoulder and when Stacy threw the ball he pulled her closer to him and acted as if he was going to whisper something to her. The ball of tissue flew past Luna's head hitting the back of a guys chair two rows ahead.

"Wow, talk about good timing" Dean whispered to her. He could hear Stacy muttering something under her breath.

"I hope you all enjoy your year here and thank you" The principal finished. Dean decided to wait for the majority of the crowd to leave before getting up so he sat there waiting to see what Luna would do.

Luna was listening quietly to the principal speaking. She didn't really mind sitting through this assembly but the principal was such a nervous man. She could swear it was almost like he was going to faint every time he had to get up in front of the students. Of course that was just the vibe she got from him, a lot of people wouldn't notice that but Luna had an odd way of thinking sometimes. She was pretty much spacing out when all the sudden she felt something hard wrap around her shoulders. With a stunned gasp she was pulled closer to Dean and she looked over at him with a 'What the hell' kind of look on her face. They were just friends weren't they? Then she heard something fly through the air.... wait... heard? She looked over just in time to see a piece of wet paper fly past her face and hit a couple of annoyed boys a few rows behind her. She blinked a couple times. That was bizarre partly because Dean still had her in a partial hug and partly because she had heard, almost felt, that object fly through the air. She shook her head and tried to pass that off as her being just tired and then she looked back at Dean and gave him a grateful smile. She was fairly sure she could feel Stacy's rays of spirit hate just radiating from her eyes, like if she stared hard enough at Luna with that look she could melt her. Luna just laughed and stuck her tongue out at Stacy. Then the assembly was over. Luna looked at Dean "Thanks for the help, reflexes." she said as she stood up "Gosh, first day of school and I would have a maskera run and that would just not due." she said sarcastically as Stacy walked past, just to get the last laugh for the stunt. Stacy just shrugged "It probably would have made your face better loser." she said annoyed. She looked at Dean and smiled. "But that was a nice save Dean." she winked "I'll see you around." she ignored a strange look she was getting from Luna as she walked away.
Luna scoffed "I think you have a new girlfriend." she said jokingly.

Dean was a little surprised. "A new girlfriend?" he said sarcasticly. "And since when did Stacy have a heart to have feelings with?" He said making a dopey face. He began laughing along with Luna. Suddenly something caught his attention. He suddenly stopped laughing and his face became expressionless. He smelt something, something abnormal. When Dean was first getting used to his new life he had difficulty with his heightened sense of smell. His master had taught him to ignore most smells, such as when someone wears to much perfume, or fail to take a shower for quite sometime. But this smell wasn't...how would it be put, a human smell. The problem was Dean couldn't focus on it. There were to many students around for him to be able to pinpoint it.

"Everyone make your way out of the hall please" Dean heard a nervous voice over the crowd. He probably wouldn't have heard it except his heightened sense of hearing. Dean would have preferred to stay and find the source of the strange smell. But if Luna was in danger he needed to get her out of here.

"Hey lets go" he said looking back to Luna with a smile on his face. She was giving him a strange look but he ignored it and put his arm around her shoulders and began walking her out. "Its almost break now isn't it?. Not much point in going to class if its only for a few minutes. You want to head out and get something to eat?" He asked her.

There was that odd face again. Did he realize he was doing that? 'Great I just got him back and now he's acting all psycho.' she thought to herself. Realizing that getting him out of the school and getting him alone for a while might be a good chance for her to ask why he was acting so weird. "Sure." she said, smiling. "Where do you want to go?"

    ***

Dean and Luna had gone out to lunch and had a good talk. Dean however avoided most of the questions Luna asked him. When they got back to school Luna not satisfied with Deans answers told him they have to hang out after school. She made him promise they would since she wasn't sure yet if he was sticking around or not. Dean promised and true to his word he met up with her at the school gates. He walked her home so she could drop off her things and then brought her to his place so he could do the same. After that Dean offered to take her to a movie with the hopes that if they went it would stop Luna from asking so many questions. Unfortunately for him Luna was as stubborn as ever and refused to go, so instead they ended up going to the park. They had been there for awhile and it was pretty late. Luna had dropped the subject for awhile at least and they had been talking about other things.

"So, are you ever going to tell me what you did that stopped you from contacting me all summer?"

Dean sighed. "What would you say if I told you I was kidnapped by aliens?" He said jokingly.

"Well that would explain the new look you have going there, that or steroids" Luna said, The two of them laughed.

"Wait your telling me you think the only way I can look like this is if aliens did it or I was a steroid freak?. Haha, thanks" he said giving her a little nudge.

Dean suddenly went rigid and was unmoving. He smelt something, something off. "Dean?. You ok?" Luna asked a little unnerved by his sudden change in the way he acted. "Come on we've got to go" Dean said taking Luna's hand. He began walking her out of the park. "Dean what's going on!?" Luna asked. "I don't have time to explain, just come with me." "No Dean!" Luna said pulling her hand from his. "I'm not going anywhere with you until you tell me what's going on!" Dean was becoming frustrated. Not because Luna was asking questions, she had every right to know what was happening. But right now she was in danger and if she suddenly found out like this he wasn't sure how she would handle it. "Listen, I can't explain this.." "Dean!" "Luna! let me finish. Please." He could tell Luna was frustrated with him, and him taking a tone like that probably wasn't helping any. "I can't explain this now, but we have to leave, now." Luna wasn't happy about going without any answers but she heard the urgency? in Deans voice. What was he so worried about. Dean took Luna's hand again and they began to walk briskly for the exit of the park. There was a rustling and it seemed to rush by them in an instant. "Damn it!" Dean said. He suddenly turned around so he was facing Luna, "We have to use a different exit." Dean said turning Luna around. "What's wrong with that one?" Luna asked more annoyed. "Ill explain later." Dean said turning Luna around.

A low strong growl is head coming from were the gate is. "Damn it" Dean said. "Dean! What's wrong?!" Luna demanded. The grow got louder and Luna heard it. She looked over Dean's shoulder. "What's that?" Luna asked in a soft whisper of surprise. Dean turned around and stood in front of Luna blocking her view from the creature. "That is the reason we have to go" Dean told Luna. The creature jumped at the two of them. Dean sidestepped knocking Luna to the ground and punched the creature in the rib area. It was very slight but he heard a few cracks. "Run!" Dean said helping Luna up and grabbing her arm the two took off for another exit.

"What was that thing?" Luna said as they ran. "All you need to know right now is its very, very dangerous. We have to get out of here." Dean could hear that the creature was still following them and it had been joined by two others. There was no way he could stop them all unless he transformed but he couldn't do that in front of Luna. Dean and Luna arrived in the middle of the park. There were two other paths meeting the one they had just come off of to make a Y pattern.Trying to decide which one to take Dean looked behind him. There it was, standing there staring. "Dean." Luna said. Dean turned and looked to were she was pointing there, in the second path was another one. She tugged on his shirt sleeve and pointed again. And there in the third path was another. "Great" Dean said under his breath. There were completely surrounded, there was only one thing he could do. A low growling noise could be heard, but it wasn't coming from the creatures. It was coming from..Dean?

Luna was scared. What on earth were these things and how did Dean seem to know that they were coming! There was no way out they were there blocking all paths. Luna wanted to close her eyes, this all had to be a dream. Some strange nightmare just like before. But it didn't feel like a dream this time. In fact, it was very real. It was like her dreams were real and right before her eyes. The huge creatures were closing in and Luna wasn't sure if they were going to die or she was going to weak up and realize it had all been a dream after all. Just then, she heard something she hadn't been expecting. A growl, just like the other three were doing but it didn't come from one of the creatures. It came from Dean!

Luna let go of her friend's arm and looked at his face. "Dean!?"

"Luna, I don't have time to explain right now" Dean said, but something was wrong with his voice. Some parts of what he said came out with a growl like he had an extremely bad throat, but his words could be heard perfectly fused with them. "You may want to look away" Dean said as he began to transform "Araghh" Dean shouted as he transformed and were a human once stood there was a large wolf. Dean was bigger than the average wolf, but the beasts attacking them were slightly bigger. Dean didn't let this intimidate him at all, he was baring his teeth, ears back and was in an extremely defensive position just in front of Luna. The werewolves, obviously a little surprised by Deans sudden transformation huddled closer together in the middle making it easier for Dean to watch them all. Due to his training he could tell by the muscle tension in the werewolves that they were getting ready to attack. Then they jumped. Dean stood on his two back legs swiping with his front two and biting with his mouth. He managed to hit one werewolf in the eye hard enough that it sent its head smashing into the ground causing it to howl out in pain. The one in the middle was unlucky enough to get bitten on the ear, Dean had torn a chunk of it off. This made it back away and whimper while checking its wound. This left the one to the right of Dean and Luna. For a second it was unsure what to do, weather it should check on its comrades of continue attacking by itself. Dean had stayed in his defensive position in front of Luna, Growling with his teeth baring. This was obviously enough to provoke the animal into attacking and it swung with its large paw aiming at Dean. Dean jumped back to avoid the swing but ended up hitting into Luna which caused her to fall. Dean turned to look to see if she was ok. There was a loud thump and a short whimper sound as Dean was sent flying into a tree. Dean was dazed from the hit and fell when he tried to get back up. Satisfied with this the animal turned to face Luna who was still on the ground. The other two had recovered enough to begin slowly come up behind the one. Luna backed away on her arms and legs while watching the beasts at all times. The werewolves stalked her, taking one long step at a time. Luna.. "Dean?" Luna said looking over at the wolf slumped in a heap at the trunk of the tree. Luna, I'm speaking to you in your mind. I can't vocalize words in this form, but because of who you are I can talk to you this way. Dean couldn't look at Luna but he was sure she was confused. I'll explain everything to you later...I promise. Dean said to her. But now I need you to listen to me very carefully. I need you to stand up, turn to your right and fall. "What!" Dean heard Luna shout. Trust me. Dean said to her reassuringly. I won't let anything happen to you. Luna stood up and turned right as Dean has asked her, she hesitated about falling. Now! She head Dean shout in her mind. She closed her eyes, spread her arms and fell. However, she didn't hit the cold hard ground like she was expecting to. She still had her eyes closed, and it felt like she was...flying?. She looked beneath her and was surprised to see she was on top of Dean. She quickly grabbed around his neck with her arms and gripped his side tight with her legs. This is a smooth ride considering She thought to herself. Glad your enjoying it, but were not out of danger just yet Dean said back to her mind. "You can read my thoughts!?" Luna shouted above the wind that was passing by as Dean ran. They must have been going pretty fast because Luna found herself watching objects go by in a blur. "Awoooooo" She suddenly heard behind them. She looked back to see the three werewolves in pursuit. They were quite some distance away, but it looked like they were gaining, little by little.

"Dean they are catching up to us." Luna said trying to speak loudly over the wind rushing past her ears and through her hair. "We need to think of something else to lose them. They are just plain faster than you. No offence." she said after a growl from him in response. She looked back behind them and noticed they were gaining faster than Luna had thought not that she was superseded. They were a lot bigger than Dean. They only had to take one step for every three of Dean's.
Luna looked forward again, already trying to think of ways to outsmart the creatures most of the times she thought up a plan Dean would interrupt her thoughts with corrections like 'They can still track you under a tunnel.' or 'That's so cliche of course they can swim'. Getting a bit annoyed with Dean being in her head but also glad she didn't have to suggest all these ideas to him and waste time.
She heard another howl, this one astonishingly close. Luna heard its body falling through the air before she would have been able to see it and it's bone chilling vicious growl. She looked up just in time to see one of the bigger wolf creatures jumping from the top of a nearby building straight at Luna and Dean, its teeth flashing brightly against the streetlights in the dark.

"Dean!" Luna practically screamed. Time seemed to slow down for Luna after that moment. Her hand seemed to move against her will or knowledge. She placed her hand, palm toward the wolf which was falling through the air staring at her and Dean with death in it's gaze. The movement had originally supposed to be just a natural reaction in the bodies 'fight-or-flight' instinct but something totally astonishing happened. From the palm of her hand was a flash of light blue light that spread from her palm and formed a large disk in the air between her and dean, and the attacker. When the wolf touched the beam of light it grew radiantly light for only a fraction of a second but there was a loud bang as it diminished into thin air and the enemy wolf was knocked back by the blast several yards before it crashed against the ground.
Luna stared at her hand like it was radioactive "Did... I...?" she said, the oddness of this entire situation began to settle on Luna. She began to wonder if this was just another one of her way too vivid dreams about wars and wolves and Dean.

What was that? Dean asked Luna after she had sent the werewolf flying. Luna was silent, she was staring at her hand like it was a foreign object. The werewolves have stopped chasing us Dean said to Luna. Luna still looking at her hand in bewilderment still didn't answer. Dean slowly came to a stop and began calling Luna. Getting frustrated when she didn't respond Dean sat down causing Luna to fall of his back and land with a small thud on the path. When Luna looked up she saw that Dean was back in his human form. "What did you do that for!?" Luna said a little annoyed. "You weren't listening to me" Dean said as he helped Luna to her feet. "Well don't do it again" Luna said giving Dean a playful slap on the arm while laughing. Dean smiled at her, "Come on, we need to get out of here." Dean said taking here by the arm. "Were?" Luna asked. "I'm going to take you to my masters house. He will explain everything to you." Luna just looked at him. After a brief silence Luna asked "Well, wouldn't it be faster to go there in your wolf form?" Dean was a little taken back by the question. Only Luna could have all this happen and be so calm he thought. "It would be yes" He replied with a smile, "But normal people would have a heart attack if they saw a big would running through town. And just imagine the looks we'd get if they saw you sitting on my back" Dean said with a playful smile on his face. Luna playfully slapped him again and they went on there way.
    **
Dean and Luna were now walking through some woods. Dean seemed to be able to navigate his way through the forest flawlessly. Luna, unfortunately was having a more difficult time. She had slipped twice on wet logs and come fairly close to falling flat on her face a couple of time. Dean head what he could only assume was Luna falling followed by, "Damn it!". Dean turned around to see Luna sitting in the foliage holding her ankle. "You ok?" Dean said making his way back to her. "It's my ankle. I twisted it." "Let me have a look." Dean said kneeling down to look at it. "Oh man, this is bad" Dean said looking at Luna. Luna's face had abit of worry on it. "We may need to amputate it" Dean said with a laugh. "Everyone's a comedian" Luna said rolling her eyes while smiling. "Here help me up." She said putting her hand out. Dean took her and helped her up. "Can you put any weight on it?" He asked her. Luna put her foot down experimentally. "Ouch"Luna said picking it up off the ground. Dean thought for a minute. "Well, were almost there, climb on to my back and ill carry you there." "You sure?" Luna asked. "Yeah climb on." Luna climbed onto Deans back. Dean shrugged once throwing Luna up a little and catching her legs with his arms so she wouldn't slip. Dean seemed to be going just as fast as he was before, if not a little faster, and still he managed to keep his footing and dodge all the over hanging branches. "I guess being a wolf comes in handy in your... well you form as well." She said. Dean laughed a little, "Shape shifter." Dean said. "What?" Luna asked. "I'm a shape shifter, not a wolf." "Oh." Luna said, a hundred questions flying through her head. "You can't hear my thoughts right now can you?" Luna thought to ask Dean. "No, not when I'm like this" Dean said. There was silence between the two for awhile. "Here we are" Dean said finally breaking the silence. They had come into a clearing in the woods. There was a double storied wooden house with smoke coming out of a chimney. Dean and Luna walked inside. It was a very clean house, considering they were in the middle of no where. It was well lit and there were various decorations hanging on the wall. Luna said at the kitchen table while Dean was fussing about in the kitchen. Luna began to think about what had happened only hours ago, She played the event out in her head, over and over and each time she finished she had more questions. She jumped slightly when she heard a high pitch whistle, but then realized it was just a kettle. She watched as Dean took the kettle from a wood burning stove and poured hot liquid into a glass. He then took the glass and a plate of food from the counter and brought them over to her. "You must be hungry" Dean said putting a plate of egg and bacon in front of her. Only when the smell of the food hit her did Luna realize how hungry she was. She hadn't eaten since lunch and it was getting pretty late. After she had finished eating and had drunk what she assumed was green tea, she sat back and looked at Dean with a questioning look. Dean just looked at the floor.

Dean stood up suddenly and faced the door. "Dean?. What are you doing here?" a figure asked as he entered the door. Dean didn't even answer, he just looked at Luna. "Ah, I suspect you have some questions my dear."

Luna looked between Dean and the Newcomer, trying to decide what she thought of him. Dean seemed to act strangely around him, keeping silent and standing when he entered the room. Who was he for Dean to respect? Luna had never seen him before in her life but he looked to and spoke to her like he knew exactly who she was. "Um... yes uh... sir. A few." she answered after an awkward silence that felt like an eternity to her. She felt embarrassed and unsure how to act. She stood up as well.

"It's getting rather late" Dean's master said to Luna as he finished answering the last of her questions. She still had a look about her that told she still didn't fully understand what was happening. "Dean take her home won't you" He said to Dean who was standing leaning against a wall behind him. Dean walked over to were Luna was sitting and knelt down on one knee with his back to her. "I..I can walk" She said to them. "My ankle is fine now" She said moving it as if they needed proof. It was a little stiff but other than that it was fine. "No doubt my dear. But with Dean carrying you, you will get home a lot faster." Luna felt she should probably be offended by this comment but knew it was true. She put her arms around Dean's neck and let them hang in front of his chest. Dean stood up and hooked her legs with his arms. Without a word to his master who had told Luna to just call him 'Uncle' (Luna had avoided calling him at all) Dean walked to the door. "Good night" was called after them as they began heading for the woods. "What's his real name?" Luna asked once they had been walking for abit. "I haven't a clue" Dean said instantly. "He wanted to me to call him 'Uncle when he was training me. I, like you avoided using his name whenever I could" he said with a slight smile. Luna was glad that Dean couldn't see her face as she was blushing slightly. Was it really that obvious she hadn't wanted to call him uncle?. "What time is it?" Luna asked with a yawn. "Its twenty past twelve." Dean said checking his watch. "We'll probably be at your place a half hour." There wasn't a response. Luna had fallen asleep resting her head on his shoulder and her arm.
    * * *
"Luna." There was a small grumble in response. "Luna, your home" Dean said. Luna's eyes slowly opened. She blinked a couple of times to get the sleep out of them. She was looking Dean in the face, his rather close to hers. She then realized that he was holding her in by her legs and back the way guys do with there newly married wives. She realized how awkward she felt and tried to stand up. The sudden movement made Dean drop her legs but he caught her with his arm still on her back and his other hand holding her waist. Luna had grabbed Dean's jumper stretching it a bit. "Sorry." Luna said standing up full and she began fiddling with her hair. Luna took a few steps to the door and turned around to see Dean was still standing on the side walk. "Aren't you coming in?" Luna asked. "No, no. I have to get home. Mom would kill me if I didn't come home. She'll probably kill me anyway" Dean said with a laugh. Luna didn't want Dean to go, she still had loads she wanted to ask him and a lot she didn't understand. She silently cursed herself for falling asleep. "You should probably get some more sleep." Dean said turning to walk away. "Don't stay out to long. Its cold out." Luna hadn't noticed it before but it was rather chilli out. "Dean" Luna called after him. Dean turned around to face her. "Thanks" She said smiling. "No worries" Dean said turning around again. "I'll see you tomorrow." He said as he began walking away. "Good night" She said to him as he was fading in the darkness. She was almost sure he hadn't heard her but he then turned around again and waved.

Dean arrived home and closed the door quietly behind him. "Dean!?" He heard a voice calling from up stairs. "Is that you?". "Yes mom its me." Dean said. He heard her coming down stairs and she switched on the light. "Were the heck were you?" She asked slightly annoyed. "Its nearly ten past one. And its a school night!" she said exaggerating the school night bit. "I'm sorry mom. I was out with Luna." "Luna?" She repeated. "Yes, I hadn't seen her all summer and time got away from us." he said to her. "And is she home now?" She asked him. "Yes, I brought her home before I came home." "Good." She said talking a little lighter than she had been. "Listen hun, I know your excited seeing her again and everything but you still both need your sleep. And what about your homework? Have you any of that done?." "I didn't get any" Dean said defending himself. "It was the first day." "Even so, don't make a habit of this" she said folding her arms. "I'm sorry" Dean simply said. There was a small silence in which Deans mom looked him up and down. "I know your big and strong now, but I still worry about you" She told him smiling. "Your still my baby boy" She said jokingly as she reached up to brush some of his hair back like she was when he was younger. Dean didn't say anything he just gave her one of his crooked smiles. "Good night hun, go get some sleep" She said giving him a hug. "Good night mom." Dean replied walking into his room and without turning on the light he got changed and climbed into bed. Dean was lying with his hands behind his head on his pillow. He thought of Luna and smiled. Then he sighed. His feelings for her were getting stronger.

(OOC: That's where we left off. Sorry it's a really long read. xD)

Luna walked in the front door as Dean walked away down the street. Her heart was still racing, she wasn't sure if it was because of the excitement from earlier, or something else. As she ascended the dark stair way to her bedroom- as quietly as she could in attempt to not wake her parents- she ran through the day's events again in her mind. She was confused to say the least, afraid at the most.

As she entered her bedroom and closed the door, she finally deemed it safe to turn on the light. She flipped the switch to the left of her bedroom door, taking a few moments to blink until her eyes adjusted the the sudden light. Then, she crossed the room to her bed, pulling a mid sized blue book from under her bed and flipping through it to the first unmarked page. She took a pen from her bedside table and write:

Well Today was an adventure to say the least. It was my first day of school. Dean is finally back, and we spoke today. He looks and acts a little different, but he's still the same Dean. He told me he was camping with his Uncle all summer... but that wasn't true. After school we went to the park and, eh, gosh I don't even know what happened. Everything was fine and then we got attacked by a pack of really big dogs. He says they are werwolves but I'm not sure what to think of that. I'm not sure what to think of any of this. Dean turned into a dog too and he fought some of them off but then we had to run.
Something happened to me too. I don't know how to explain it, but when we were being attacked one of the dogs jumped at us. I don't know how I did it... but somehow I stopped it. Dean took me to an old cabin outside of town. He told me he's a shapeshifter, which is 'like a wervolf but cooler' in his words. In the cabin, there was a man. He said the things that attacked us are werwolves and that they not nice, and that they are looking for me. Something about a war. I know all of this sounds crazy. But somehow, I feel like some part of me was ready for all of this. I mean, some of the things that happened tonight were so similar to the things I've been seeing in my dreams. I don't know... maybe this is a dream too. Anyway, if it is I guess this entry won't be in my journal when I wake up in the morning. Until then, we'll see.

She yawned as she put her journal back under her mattress. She then dressed for bed, and shut off her bedroom light. But as she walked to her bed, she noticed a shadow outside of her window. It was large, blocking off some of the moonlight from entering her bedroom. Round, gold colored eyes glowered at her from just a thin sheet of glass away.

Luna stared back at the creature, standing midway between the door and her bedroom, too paralyzed to even breathe. How long has it been there? she thought to herself. She tried to inch backward, and heard a muffled growl from the creature outside, a noise low enough to slightly vibrate the glass. Before Luna could react, the creature stood, and walked away. For moments after, Luna stood, still afraid to move. It was only the realization that she was still holding her breath that made her break her statue like stance to exhale. It was then that the weight of everything, and realization of the danger sunk in. Luna took a quick step across her room, closing the blinds to her window.

She sat there, in the silence of her room feeling overwhelmed but exhausted from the day's events. It didn't take long before she fell into a troubled sleep.

Meanwhile, outside, the wolf that had been looking in Luna's window bound across the yard, over the fence, and down the street keeping to the shadows. It didn't make it far before it saw a figure in it's path. The person in his way was a young woman, she was small in stature. She was dressed in trendy, tight fitting clothing. Her long brown hair was in lose curls. She appeared to be very beautiful, and innocent enough though she didn't really seem to fear the wolf. It was her scent that caused the creature to take a defensive stance, back arched, teeth bared with a low threatening growl.

The girl only smiled in response, bowing her head politely to the creature. "Good evening." she said as the creature stalked toward her continue to growl and snap. The wolf launched itself at her. She had to take a few quick steps back to avoid the attack. Though she did so still very calmly. "Okay, I get it. Let's not waste time then." she said, her eyes darkened in color and sunk in slightly as the veins in her face and neck darkened, creating a face as frightening as it was once beautiful. Her smile faded into a an open mouthed snarl, showing her canines growing into fangs. As the creature advanced on her again, the woman stepped forward, pulling a silver knife from it's hiding place under her jacket and stabbing it into the wolf's chest as it was in the air, unable to escape the surprise attack.

The dog fell to the ground, whimpering and biting at the weapon. The mysterious woman didn't waste any time, rushing to the animal and going in for the kill in the only effective way she knew: The heart. The growling and whimpering stopped instantly as the girl stood up, her face returning to normal as she flicked her hand to the ground, getting rid of excess blood before she pulled a rag from her pocket to finish cleaning herself. How reckless, Dean didn't realize he was being followed. she mused, reaching down to the body get it out of the open. She slung it over her shoulder Poor creature must have been on it's way to report to it's pack. She thought to herself, pulling a cellphone from her pocket. She opened her contacts list and opened a text conversation with Dean Ackels: "Be careful about being followed in the future. I cleaned up your mess this time. Don't get use to it though. - Beth" She allowed herself to smile for a brief moment, placing the phone back in her pocket before she broke into a run, her image became a blur as she disappeared with her prey into the night.

    NEW CHARACTER PIC AND INFO:
    Name: Elisabeth (Beth) Foster
    Age: 200-ish
    Race: Vampire
    Appearance:[IMG][IMG]
Role/Bio: Beth's history is way too long to get into. She's a ranking member of the Vampire's hierarchy and assisted somewhat with Dean's training. Her job was to make sure he didn't hurt anyone on accident while learning to control his wolf side. Her methods were questionable, but it only took a few weeks before she was no longer needed, and returned home. Recently she's returned with other Vampires tracking a pack of werwolves in the area. Presumably they are after Luna but it hasn't yet been confirmed.

"There's still some blood here" Dean said standing up from his kneeling position. He could smell that Beth had been there, Not just the perfume she wore, but the smell of a vampire hung on the wind. The stink of blood was the strongest smell though. It had been a clean kill. It was obvious for two reasons, firstly how little blood was left behind, and secondly. Well, it was Beth who did the killing.

Elisabeth Foster, Dean thought to himself. He shuddered a little as a chill went down his spine. He tried not to think of the training exercises that the two of them had. He zipped up his hoodie the rest of the way, and put the hood up coving his head. How could he have been so foolish?. They had been attacked and followed not hours before, why would he leave Luna unattended an unwatched?. The fact that Beth was the one to protect her and chastise him made matters worse. He had been caught up in the events of the day he told himself. He hadn't seen Luna all summer, And then she finds out he isn't human?. He tried over and over to make it OK in his head, but he couldn't. He should have been protecting her.

Deans life had changed a lot over the summer. Not only was he taller and stronger, but he was no longer human. Was he ever human?, he thought to himself. Its a lot to take in, realising your life isn't what you thought it was. Werewolves? Vampires?, they were fairy tales and scary stories told to him when he was a child. And the fact that he was a shapeshifter... well it took him awhile to adjust.

"Dean?" a voice called snapping him back to reality. "Sir?" Dean answered as he recognised the voice. Dean's master stepped into the light from beneath the trees. " I heard what happened. It's a good thing Elisabeth was around." Dean looked at the ground again, " Please, the last thing I want is a lecture". No one was more upset about this than he was. " And the last thing I want to do is lecture you, but you should have known better. How could you leave the wild power defenceless like that?" "She isn't just the wild power!" Dean said raising his voice slightly. "She is my best friend" "I understand that, and all the more reason you should have been here to protect her" Dean opened his mouth to argue, but had second thoughts about it.

"Listen Dean. Things aren't the same as they were last year. Your not a normal person. You have responsibility, the life of the wild power" Dean glared at his master. "The life of Luna, is in your hands" his master corrected himself. "I'm sorry" is all Dean could say in response.

Dean could hear the faint sound of Luna's alarm clock sounding from her bedroom window marking six am. He had stayed outside Luna's house all night. He stood up from the tree he had been leaning against, stretched his legs and back and checked his watch. 06:15 he read. As if like clock work Dean heard the front door open and Luna's father made his way to his truck and headed off to work. Dean stretched again, grabbed his bag, slung it on his shoulders and made his way to the front door. *knock* *knock* Dean wrapped his knuckles on the door and took a step back from the door. Time to go back to school and be normal, Dean thought as he waited for Luna.

Luna was startled back from her world of dreams by the sound of her alarm clock playing some random old blue grass song chosen from the radio. The second morning with very little, but troubled, sleep wore on her unpleasantly. Her eyes hurt from the thin streaks of sunlight coming through her closed blinds. She sat up, trying to rub the pain in her pupils as she yawned. There was a faint tap at her door and she heard her father's voice outside her door. "Luna, are you awake?"

"Yeah dad." She shifted her feet to the edge of the bed, trying to sort out what from last night was a dream and what was reality.

"I'm coming in, make sure you're decent. We need to talk." her father waited a moment before he opened her bedroom door. Luna remained in her position sitting on the edge of her bed. "Good morning. What's up?"

"You were out pretty late last night. Your mother and I were worried." he commented as he sat next to her on the edge of the bed "That's not like you. Care to explain what happened?"

Luna thought for a moment At least I know he and I were for sure really out that late... she thought to herself before she answered, deciding to go with a vague answer. "I'm sorry to have worried you. Dean's finally back. We got caught up after school and lost track of time. I would have called but my phone died." she explained.

"Dean huh." her dad paused, clearly trying to find a decent way to say what was on his mind. "Still pretty late to just be out with a boy, friend or not. Was it just the two of you?"
    "Yep."
Her dad checked the clock, "Well, I have to go to work. I know you missed your friend so I'll let you off easy this time. Just don't let it happen again. I don't like the idea of you out that late anyway but with the strange things going on around town right now, It's just foolish."

    "What strange things?"

"Those missing hikers we saw on the news last week were found yesterday. Their bodies weren't too far from town. The had been mauled to death. Whatever animal did it was pretty big."

He stood up, "You should get ready for school. Make sure you give your mom a call if you decide to hang out with friends again today." he waved and walked out the door.

Luna finished getting ready for school, it took her about a half an hour. When she was all ready, she reached for her journal, hoping it would sort out her messy memories of what happened last night. Before she could open it, she heard her mom downstairs "Luna! Dean's here. Hurry you're going to be late for school."

"Be right down!" She called back, cursing the bad timing. She put the journal in her back pack before descending the stairway to the front door.

Meanwhile, deeper into the woods outside town, Beth arrived back at her camp. She saw other vampires in her troupe dodging every which way under the cover of the thick canopy of trees above their heads, protecting them from the majority harsh rays of sun as they went about their responsibilities. One of these vampires was her second in command on her current mission, a handsome man about her same age in both years and appearance. "Welcome back Beth, how did your hunt go?"

"We've finally caught up to the pack, but there are more of them than we thought. And they are getting careless. The town is crawling with dogs, and they left prey in the open. The towns authorities are involved."

"Well that's not good." he remarked, taking in her appearance. "I'm guessing you ran into one? You smell awful."

"Yes, I considered following it to the pack, but it knew the location of the Wild Power. I didn't want to risk giving away her position."

"It's unfortunate but you were probably right. We'll just have to keep an eye out for another opportunity."

"I agree. It might be worth considering moving the wild power away from this town until she comes to power. The pack is clearly suspicious of her."

"If you truly believe that's what's best, I'll take your suggestion to the council. But they have chosen Dean to protect her. It's more his call than ours."

Beth sighed "I know you're right. I just hope they know what they are doing, resting the fate of all of us on someone so young."

"Hi Dean" Luna said as she opened the front door. Dean looked her up and down, he could tell she hadn't slept much. But could he blame her? Her entire world had been turned upside down in the space of a day. "How are you?" Dean asked as they began walking to school. Luna thought about it a little bit. "I'm fine. Didn't get much sleep last night." She said rubbing her eye. "I had a really weird dream last night"

"A dream?" Dean asked perplexed. "What happened in the dream?" He asked as he continued to walk with Luna. He had stopped walking out of pure shock. Did she really think all of yesterdays events had been a dream? Luna had noticed the shock on Deans face. "Yeah a dream.. one of those things people have when they sleep" she said pushing him playfully. "It was a very vivid dream mind you"

Luna went on to tell Dean about her dream as they walked to school. They had arrived early and neither of them had eaten any breakfast. So they both went to the school cafeteria and got some breakfast. "You OK?" Luna asked noticing Dean hadn't touched any of the food on his plate. He had been acting odd all morning. Not saying much, and he'd seemed distant since he'd gotten back from the summer with his uncle. Then Luna had a thought... had it been real? She was about to ask when the school bell went off. "We should get to class" Dean said picking up his bag and standing up. Luna still wanted to ask. But surely it couldn't have been real. Things like that don't happen in real life. She decided against it, picked up her bag and walked with Dean to class.

Dean and Luna shared most of the same classes together. They sat beside each other in all of them, but something still seemed off about Dean. He wasn't talking much, and any attempt at joking with him was put down with a friendly smile from Dean and then him turning to his notepad. Which he hadn't written anything in. Have I done something to annoy him? Luna thought as she finally gave up and turned to doodling in her own notepad. If she had why wouldn't he talk to her about it? They're friends aren't they? And friends don't keep stuff from each other.

The bell had gone and it was the final class before lunch. "I'll talk to you at lunch" Dean said to Luna before she had a chance to ask him what was wrong. "But..." "I have to go for abit" Dean said cutting Luna off mind sentence. And with that he was gone. Dean felt bad leaving Luna like that, but he had to talk to his master. He had messaged him earlier, and was told to meet him in the forest area behind the school.

"She doesn't remember it" Dean said to what seemed to himself. His master stood out from behind a tree. "Doesn't remember?" he asked slightly surprised. "She thinks it was a dream". "What should I do?" Dean asked. "Nothing" his master replied. "The plan was to keep her in the dark for as long as possible. If she thinks its a dream, it will be easier to keep her safe. Dean had heard all of this before. But he wanted nothing more than to tell Luna what he was, who she is and the real reason he had been away all summer. It was almost a relief to him that she had found out so soon. He was almost grateful for the attack. He knew their lives had been in danger, but he wouldn't have to keep anything from her.

"Dean" his master said sounding almost sad. "I understand this is hard for you. Before summer you were a normal kid, you went to school, you stayed out of trouble, mostly." the last part made Dean smile. "This isn't something I would wish on anyone. But it is your job to protect her." Dean and his master went on to chat for awhile. It felt good to get things off of his chest.

Dean had gone back to school, he had missed the entire period. Dean saw Luna sitting at a table by herself. She was poking at some food on her plate with a fork. Dean made his way through all the students and sat opposite her.

"Hey" he said with with a half smile. "Sorry for earlier. I didn't get much sleep last night either." He told her.

Luna didn't look to impressed with his excuse.

Luna almost wasn't surprised when Dean took off before their 4th period class. She sighed, Oh he has some explaining to do. she thought to herself. She had a difficult time focusing during that class. Exhaustion from the night before was catching up to her and she couldn't get the images from the dream out of her head. As a result, she ended up doodling some of the images she saw in her book. In the back of her mind, she could hear her English teacher's lecture about metaphors as she drew herself and Dean. They were in the woods, he was carrying her on his back. They were smiling and slightly messed up from the events that took place previously.

A nagging curiosity still lingered for her to check her journal to see if it said anything about what happened the night before that would have triggered such a vivid dream. Even more ridiculously, she wondered if maybe there was some truth to it... she brushed the thought off instantly. It couldn't be. Regardless, she couldn't check. She had left her journal in her locker.

She lost track of time when the bell finally rang, alerting students of the end of 4th period and the beginning of Lunch hour. Luna quickly shut her note pad and made her way out of the classroom, being delayed briefly by some visiting students in the way of the door. The halls were a buzz with chatty students, giving a sleep-deprived Luna a dull headache. She considered getting her journal when she put her notepad back in her locker but changed her mind. It would be better probably, to not tell Dean she had a dream about her best friend being half wolf... in spite of how cool he would probably think that would be.

She was disappointed to see that Dean was still nowhere to be seen as she entered the cafeteria. She purchased the day's usual meal, some suspicious looking mystery pasta and mixed vegetables. Finding a place to sit, she cursed herself for not bringing her journal with her. The sleep loss wasn't helping her lack of appetite, nor was the complete lack of appeal of the mush on her plate. She resorted to simply playing with her food, mixing portions of mush and mixed veggies with liquid from her drink before Dean finally showed up. As she expected, she was given a half assed excuse as to why he had been acting so unusually. She smiled though,

"Dean, last year you and I stayed up 48 hours straight working on an end of the year project. You handled it extremely well. One night of bad sleep does not explain your zombie behavior today." she flicked some of her veggie/mush mixture at him with her spoon, not enough to do any real damage though. "Spill." she demanded.

Dean wiped the food off of him. Luna had pretty good aim and it had smacked him right in between the eyes. He smiled at her as he wiped it off. "You know me to well" Dean said still smiling. "I just have a lot on my mind is all" he said looking at the table. He could tell without looking at her that Luna was giving him the look. Luna was about to say something when she was interrupted by the school bell. "This isn't over" Luna said simply as she moved her tray of food to the bin. Dean walked with Luna to her locker. His was on the way to class, so he figured he would walk her to hers first.

"You realise your not getting out of this right?" Luna said as she started putting in the combination for her locker. "I know. Believe me, I do want to tell you. I just don't know how to put it" Dean said leaning against the lockers beside her. "I've known you forever Dean, we tell each other everything. At least I thought we did." Dean felt hurt. Not because of Luna's comment. She was right, they do tell each other everything. And she had a right to know. " The truth is" Dean was cut off by some students screaming. Both he an Luna looked in the way the shouts had come from. Next thing they knew the hall was filled with running, terrified looking students. Luna looked at Dean with confusion on her face. But her expression changed to worry once she saw his face. She had never seen him look like that. Actually, she had once..... but she dreamt all that right?

Dean had a look of pure rage on his face. It was almost as if he was snarling. Then Luna heard it. Growling..... But it wasn't coming from Dean as she had originally thought. She turned to face the end of the hall and that's when she saw it. It stood nearly as tall as a horse. It looked...it looked like a humanoid wolf... Luna thought mesmerised by the way it walked on its hind legs. It was sniffing around, as if it was looking for something....or someone.

Luna was startled by Dean grabbing her by her shoulder and turning her around. "We have to go" Dean said in a whisper. He had noticed Luna was in a trance like state staring at the wolf. "We have to go!" He said giving her a bit of a shake. "Come on!" he said with a bit more urgency. Luna wasn't sure what to think. Surely this was a dream? There must have been something in the food she got today. This couldn't be real. "Luna?!" Dean said again. The werewolf was slowly making its way up the hallway still sniffing. "OK" Luna said looking at Dean. She quickly scanned her locker, she grabbed her journal and shoved it into her bag. Throwing it over her shoulder both her and Dean started running down the hall. The werewolf only seemed to notice them as they began running, it began growling and with that started chasing after them. It was gaining on them fast. They were no match for it in their human form. Dean could hear it catching up to them. He pulled Luna in front of him, "Keep running!" he shouted. "Run to the classroom over there!" Luna nodded to Dean. She wasn't sure what he was planning on doing. Is he going to turn? She thought as she carried on running.

Dean had thought about transforming. He would be able to hold off a lone werewolf. He wasn't as strong or as big. But he had speed on his side. Even so, there were still far to many students running around for that to even be plausible. Dean turned to face the werewolf. It was approaching fast. Here goes nothing Dean thought. He started to run towards the werewolf, just as they were about to meet Dean clenched his fist and punched the werewolf square in the nose. It stunned the animal enough to make it stop running. It was pawing at its face. When suddenly it sneezed. It would have been almost comical had it not been for the fact that the werewolf looked at Dean with death in its eyes. It swiped at Dean knocking him into the wall. Dean groaned in pain clutching his abdomen. Standing back up Dean noticed a fire extinguisher on the wall. Nothing else for it Dean thought taking the extinguisher, pulling the pin and aiming it at the werewolf. Squeezing the handles together the foam shot out at the werewolf. It had the desired effect. The werewolf yelped in shock and began to swipe wildly in its blinded state.

The extinguisher had just run out when one of the werewolves swings caught Deans arm ripping into it with his claws. Dean screamed in pain. Without much thought Dean flung the extinguisher at the wolf. He wasn't sure were it had hit, but the werewolves yelp confirmed it had. Dean ran towards the classroom. He was glad to see that all the students had managed to get away, he had made it to the door and tried turning the handle but the room was locked. "Let me in!" Dean shouted banging on the door. He could hear the lock been tuned and then a door opened. Not a second to late as Dean ran into the room the werewolf had jumped at him had missed by inches. Slamming the door behind him Dean locked the door again and was then pulled back from the door. People began to barricade the door with desks and chairs. Dean turned to see who had pulled him. "Dean!" Luna said sounding relived. She hugged him for about a minute before she noticed his arm. His shirt was ripped and covered in blood. "Are you OK?" she asked him in a panic. She began trying to take the soaked shreds of t shirt away from his arm. "I'm fine" Dean said as Luna fussed at him.

The werewolf could be heard scratching and ramming the door. The students didn't know how to react. Some were adding more chairs and desks to the barricade. Others were sat down in groups. Not really talking, but just sitting together. Some of the more precious people were crying in the back corner of the class saying how they were to young and beautiful to die. Luna had finally managed to peel back the t shirt. "There's no cut?" Luna said surprised. She was sure his arm would be nearly cut off with the way the blood had smeared all over. But all she could see were four faint lines that she though must have been from the werewolves claws. Then it hit her. It wasn't a dream. Was it? It had all been real. Luna had so many different thoughts running through her mind. "Luna?" Dean asked growing concerned. Luna didn't answer but instead grabbed her bag, dug through it and found the last page she had made an entry in. Luna gasped. She didn't remember sitting down but next thing she knew Dean was kneeling beside her asking if she was OK.

Luna thought she heard gun shots. A howl of pain. And then she isn't to sure what was going on. Dean heard the gun shots loud and clear. Someone had phoned the police. They had arrived and must have shot and hit the werewolf. It wouldn't do any permanent damage. But it was enough to scare the creature away. He could hear it running down the hall, and head the footsteps of the police as the started chasing it. "Luna?" Dean said again. "Luna are you OK?"

A pair of vampires from Beth's coven stood on top of the school building. They appeared astonished "A dog transformed during the day. How is that possible!" one said.
"It doesn't matter. We'll worry about that later. Right now, we need to put it down before it can hurt anyone."
"We got here too late. The human authorities are involved. We can't intervene." one, a male that could have passed as a human child, said to the other. "Not without risking exposure."
The other sighed, she appeared to be in her middle ages. "She's going to be mad. But you're right. We'll have to track the creature and take it out when it's lost their trail."

"It shouldn't be too hard. It stinks, someone must have injured it." the younger looking one made a snarl.

"You could also be smelling the half-blood." the woman suggested.

The boy laughed a little "Not even shape shifters smell THAT bad. Report to Beth and let's track that wolf."

    "What about the wild power?"

"The Shapeshifter is clearly qualified to take care of her." the two then jumped off and ran after the police and the wolf, making sure to keep hidden.

Luna wasn't sure what to think of everything. She just stared at the page of her journal, remembering the things that happened last night fully. Knowing that it was all real... Dean wasn't Human. She had odd powers. That creature was after her and Dean. She saw one outside her window last night. Suddenly the weight of it all finally occurred to her.

"Luna are you OK?" she heard Dean speak to her.

Trying to be strong, she took a deep breath and exhaled before responding, closing her journal. "No.... I'm scared." she whispered. She bit her lip, "We need to get out of this school, if there are more of those things, and they are tracking us, we're putting these people in danger."

"Luna" Dean said handing her a cup of tea. Luna took the cup and went to put it to the side on the table. "No, drink some" Dean said going back to the kitchen to get some for himself. "It won't be the nicest things your ever had to drink, but it will help settle your nerves a bit". Luna sniffed at the cup and once again went to put it on the side. "I'm serious Luna" Dean said taking a sip from the cup he had poured himself. Luna took a sip, and then another. Looked at Dean as if to say is that enough. And when he didn't say anything she put the cup down. Luna hadn't said anything past getting away from the school. Dean had figured the shock of the situation finally hit her. But it had been so long since she had said anything he was beginning to worry.

It wasn't difficult for them to leave the school. They had decided that it best to close for the rest of the day, and chances were that it would be closed for the next few days. No one had been seriously injured in the panic of the 'wolf' attack. Most students had gotten away with bruises in the rush to get away from and block the doors so the wolf couldn't get in. One student had managed to knock herself unconscious, and possibly give herself a concussion. Dean and Luna found out it was Stacy. In her panicked state she had managed to run flat out into a open door. Dean smiled to himself thinking of her been taken away in the ambulance rambling about her near death experience. The paramedics had wanted to take Dean to the hospital as well, as they thought his shoulder had been seriously injured. It took Dean nearly ten minutes of arguing and eventually taking his torn t-shirt off to prove he wasn't hurt. The paramedics asked him where the blood had come from and Dean simply said he didn't know.

They had made their way to Deans masters cabin in the woods. Dean knew that his master was away. And he wouldn't be back for a few days, he hadn't told Dean what he was doing, or where he was going, simply that it was important. Dean moved a chair in front of Luna, sat down, picked up her cup, handed it to her and said "Drink some more. Seriously, it will help". Luna took the cup and downed the vile concoction that was inside. "Well done." Dean said taking the cup to go and get a refill for her.

"What is going on?" Luna said finally.

Dean remained silent in response to Luna's question for several minutes, which bothered her somewhat in spite of the odd tea now entering her system. She figured he was simply trying to decide where to begin but she couldn't help herself from pushing him again for information.

"I'm serious Dean. What do those things want with us? I know you told me about the.... the war.... last night but what is it about? How am I supposed to help anyone with it I'm just a teenage girl. I'm not even a good member of a sports team let alone some psycho supernatural army. And you're..." she paused, a darker expression crossing her face, she sighed before standing up "...Dean, how long have you known about all of this?" she was suddenly much more cautious. Memories of how they met, and the time they spent together over the years came to her attention. Was he ever really her friend or was it all about the war all along? Maybe their meeting wasn't chance at all.

"Luna" Dean went to put his hand in her knee but she pulled away and stared him straight in the eye. "How long Dean?!". Dean was silent for another while' taking a sip of he he was about to answer. "HOW LONG?!" Luna said slamming her hand on the table causing both glasses to fall over. It was abnormal for Luna to express her anger, the sight of it would have almost been comical if the issue wasn't so serious. "That tea is supposed to have calming qualitys"

"How long Dean?" Luna said calmer than her previous outburst. Her hand hurt from hitting the table so hard, she was sure it was bleeding, but a quick look at it showed it wasn't. It would defiantly bruise. "How long?" Luna said again, tears welling in her eyes. "Not as long as you think" Dean replied. He went to put his hand on her knee again, Luna made no effort to pull away. Dean could see the tears starting to roll down her cheeks. "I'm sorry Luna" he said. The apology only made her cry harder. "Look at me" Dean said moving closer to Luna, "Luna, please." Luna looked up at him, she wasn't sure what to think. Dean wiped a tear away from her cheek with his thumb. "I'll tell you what I can"
