    Beyond Life and Death

Shuya stood in a corner in the lunch area playing his PSP, hoping to avoid the attention of other people before hearing his name being called, "HEY SHU !" Shuya turned his head to see a group of kids approach him. "Were gonna go to the movies tonight, wanna come ?" Shuya simply shook his head as one of the boy's sighed. "Seriously he's so anti-social... lets leave him alone." As the boys left Shuya sighed and got up, he was going to just skip class and head home.

A young man sat in the waterfall, looking at his reflection.
"... I guess what's gonna happen out there soon? He sighed, and held his katana, Destroyer, as he stood up.
As he reveals his face, he is revealed to be the angel, Minato.

Minato walked near a shop. Minato went there to get a drink.
"Hey, can I get some drink?" Minato sat at a chair.

"Here you go, Young Lord Minato, enjoy your drink." The man said as he gave him a drink.
Minato lets his head down. Then he lets his head up and sips his drink. Minato enjoyed it. He stood up as he finishes his drink and returns it into the man that gave it to him. Minato walked to his home and sat down a chair as he takes a book from his bookcase.

"Bless me, Father, for I have sinned...it has been a day since my last confession, and these are my sins." Before the man had time to begin, the small, hatched window in front of him swung open to reveal an elderly man dressed in a brown habit. His eyes were burning wildly and his small white mustache was bristling like an angry cat, the other man instantly knew he was in for a long 'talk'.

"Victor," the man started, speaking with a thick Italian accent, "You have been coming to me every day, for the past two weeks, confessing things that wouldn't even be considered a venial sin by the most devout of followers! Tell me, son, what is troubling you?"

Victor looked at the small, frustrated monk and let out a slight sigh. "Oh Father, recently I feel as if my life doesn't have purpose, and if it does, I do not know what it is... I am 26 years old, yet I'm not sure what I'm to do!" Victor looked down at his feet, like a little boy who had just been scolded, unsure if he should have told the monk about this development. The monk took off his round, dirty spectacles and rubbed his aging face. He stared at Victor intensely and a slight smile worked it's way onto the man's lips.

"You look and act more and more like your grandfather every day, Victor. As strong as an ox, taller than Michelangelo could have ever envisioned David, and...as dumb as a rock!"

Victor was caught by surprise by this, "Father! And to think you're the children's favorite monk!" The man chuckled quietly to himself, "Children are wiser than their years dictate, Victor...not to mention I always happen to have the best sweets!" The old man grinned sheepishly to himself, then took another look at Victor with a strong gaze of concentration, "Victor...it is normal to not know your place in the world. It is the Lord's way of testing our resolve when faced with dire straits. When these things happen, the best thing to do is pray and ask the Lord for strength, for he shall reveal all that is hidden to you when the time is right."

A soft expression came over Victor, he was right! "I understand, Father. I appreciate your wise words, I think I MIGHT understand why the children like you now." He chuckled as he shook the little monk's hand, "I hope we can keep this a private matter?" The man smiled, "Well, Victor, as they say in the West: 'What happens in the confessional, stays in the confessional.' By the way, tell your mother I would appreciate it if she could make me some of her famous meat loaf! I have not had a decent meal in the past week; I'm little more than skin and bones now!"

The two men shook hands once again before Victor left the confessional. He was greeted by a soft light floating lazily through the small windows and two small children taking refuge from the hot summer sun in the shade of a saint statue. Victor watched as the dust slowly drifted through the sun rays, "He's right, I shouldn't be gloomy. Things will be revealed in time." Quietly mumbling a prayer to himself, he left the building to think of what the monk had told him.

Shuya walked down an alleyway, careful not to be noticed skipping class, he would usually just parkour home but wouldn't be able to this time seeing as he wanted to draw as little attention as possible. He then turned a corner and began to run before bumping into a rather large man with crosses all over himself.

Ryuu made It to the park and sat on the bench as she watched everyone enjoying their day smiling, laughing and playing, She bit down on the stick from the Ice-Cream she had earlier, Ryuu stayed on the bench for awhile listening to some music that she blasted In her ears; She got up then started walking from the park to anywhere her legs take her most likely trying to find another Sea Salt Ice-Cream.

It was hot, almost stiflingly so. Victor still wasn't used to this extreme heat, back in his homeland it was often fairly mild: a sweet, soothing breeze often caressing the faces of the villagers, very often clouds would be littered all over the sky, granting a cool shade over the grassy hills. Here...it was nothing like that! As sweltering as only Dante could imagine and so humid it was practically pointless to take showers as the air was so thick that you were wet as soon as you dried off.

As Victor was reminiscing of his home, he had practically forgotten that in this big city you could easily lose your way. Left became right, right became left and before you knew it you were in the backstreets filled to the brim with graffiti, thugs, and back-alley deals. Vic ran his large hand through his hair, “By the grace of God! Where am I?!” He wasn't usually a nervous man, always prone to calming himself when he wasn't entirely sure what was going on, which unfortunately was a lot, but there was something about the city that made him feel on edge. It was probably the unpredictability of it, where anything and everything can and will happen.

Victor placed his palm heavily to his perspiring forehead; it was hot, he was confused, and he was thinking, none of these usually boded well for him. “Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum...” Victor mumbled a prayer to himself as he slowly crept along the pavement, his limbs heavy from the heat and humidity, “...Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris...” Before he could continue his prayer a young, blonde haired boy ran straight into him. A look of surprise and relief flooded Victor's face, perhaps this kid could tell him where he was?

“Oh, excuse me, little one. I seem to have lost my way, I'm not completely familiar with the city, could you point me in the direction of the nearby town?” Victor asked the boy, a drained smile plastered on his face. He looked at the child intently, he saw a strange expression coming over his face. Was it fear? Was it anger? Victor wasn't entirely sure, but he wasn't about to be misunderstood, “I see you're wary, little one. Excuse my directness, I do not wish to harm you, if you could simply point me in the right direction I'll be on my way.” A thought struck him, this was a fairly dangerous part of town, this boy shouldn't be here! “One other thing, little one: why are you in such a part of the city? This is an especially dangerous area from what I understand, and you are quite young. Perhaps we should walk out of this place together, only till we're out of this God-forsaken alley, however. My name is Victor, who are you?”

Shuya looked the man carefully before answering, "My name is Shuya Takeda, and if you're looking for the nearby town I wouldn't recommend it..." he said with a sigh. "I'm sure you've heard about it with all the news reports but if you haven't... well it would be best if you would just forget about it..." he said dusting himself off.

'Best if I forgot about it?' If Victor wasn't confused before, he certainly was now. He clasped his hand once again to his forehead, he could feel a migraine the size of Goliath coming on and a bit of aspirin and cool water would be the only things to calm this raging beast.

“Lit – er, Shuya...I have not heard these news reports, but surely it can't be as you say? Why I just came from that town no more than four days ago. Nothing serious could have happened that quickly!” A smile crept over Vic's face, not out of humor or happiness, but of disgust from this damned heat! As if that wasn't enough, he was slowly becoming more and more confused from what the boy had said, his temples were throbbing, and this was just making him severely agitated. He wasn't quite seeing red at this point, but all these factors would have left even da Vinci hunched over in a corner nauseated.

“Shuya,” he growled through clenched teeth, “I would appreciate it if you could take me to the nearest convenience store...I – I need to cool down.” The thought of air conditioning shooting out icy cold tendrils of chilled air was almost intoxicating at this point, not to mention the thought of drinking cool, crisp water was enough to have him pass out from joy. Victor placed a hand on Shuya's shoulder, again with his soft, signature smile shining from his dark, sweat drenched face; his mother would always say that his smile was his best feature, grabbing his cheeks and musing that not even angels could say no to his lovely grin.

He looked at Shuya again, his face now softer, “Please, little one, if you could do this one favor for me, I would greatly appreciate it...and if you could explain to me what's going on in that town, well, the Lord will be sure to reward you for assisting one of his flock.”

"Calm down Victor, I got something right here." said Shuya as he pulled out a bottle of cold water. "My mother told me to always prepare for the worst, whether it strikes you or another down." he said handing Victor the water. "There's a CVS about three minutes away from here if you'd follow me." he said with a sigh.

"I need another one! Where are they!?" Ryuu thought to herself as she started running toward the nearest store "I can smell the Sea Salt already!!" She said while dodging most of the objects and people that were In the way; Ryuu stopped to catch her breath for a minute and walked Into the store, She went over to where the Ice-Cream was at then She took a box and went to go buy It.

Victor graciously took the bottle from the boy, downing cool water immediately; at that moment he was in Heaven, Nirvana, and Olympus at the same time. 'Is this what it feels like to drink from a fresh Alaskan river?' He didn't bother answering himself, at this point this young boy could've have been sent to him from the Lord just to give him this water bottle and he wouldn't have bat an eyelid.

Oh Mother of God,” he gasped as he finished the drink, “Thank you, my friend! I fear if I had gone any farther I might have died...or worse!” He patted the young boy on the shoulder, with a grin from ear-to-ear, “I will have to repay you for this somehow! For us to run into each other? It cannot be a coincidence! The Lord works in mysterious ways!”

He swept his hair back from his forehead, wiping the sweat from his hand on a small rag he pulled from his pants pocket. “Your mother is a wise woman, she has my thanks,” Victor grabbed Shuya's hand, albeit rather roughly, and shook it thankfully, “Now then, shall we go? This heat is unmerciful! Surely Lucifer has a hand in this!” Roaring in laughter at his joke, he motioned for Shuya to lead the way.

As they began walking, Victor began thinking to himself, 'Perhaps this is what Father was talking about? The Lord truly does work in mysterious ways!' As they continued in the ungodly heat, Victor noticed a young girl running back and forth, carrying a box of what looked like ice cream. 'Ice cream? Well...that does sound good about now...' He thought as they went on their way, reminding himself to pick one up later.

A girl sat quietly at the front desk of a hospital when she saw a monitor go off.

"You want me to get it, Rose?" An older woman in her mid forties offered. The girl shook her head and shook her head.

"I can get it, it's no real problem, it's Mr. Martin, he probably just needs some more water." The girl said going to the room that had called a need for attention.

"Ah, it's you. Could you perhaps refill my pitcher?" And just like that, that was the everyday life of Rose Hart.

Rose was a very young woman, only just 19 and in a matter of a few weeks would be turning 20. She had no college degree, she was in no relationship, she lived in her childhood home. What separates Rose from others is she is already a mother. No Rose did not have a child herself, she took on the role of a mother to her younger twin sisters, raising them since they were a year old and since their depressed alcoholic father could not care for any of them. It occurred only five years ago.

Rose lived the typical life of a 13 year old, she would spend her days at school with friends, studying hard, every Friday she would go to the movies and be home no later than 10pm. She was the perfect daughter, she held a close relationship with both of her parents, but was very close to her mother. Their relationship as mother and daughter couldn't be stronger than any other out there.

Then it occurred. It was a typical New Years Eve, Rose's parents were invited by coworkers to come to a party to celebrate New Years Eve. Rose's baby sisters were left at home with a sitter and Rose went along with her parents. The party was great, Rose even met kids there her age. Unknowingly to everybody in the house, on the side of the house, the owners late teenage son, a very immature 16 year old were with his friends as they were playing with fireworks. A little too close to the house may one add. A rocket of a firecracker flew towards the house, an all wooden siding. Quickly the house caught flames. It did not spread quickly, but upon realization of what had occurred turned into chaos as the people in the house rushed to find their love ones and get out. Things could only get worst from there. Many people had had too many beers and cocktails as people stumbled around and soon a candle up in the sitting room which was originally planned to be a quiet escape was knocked over causing more of a fire to spread.

Within the chaos, Rose had gotten hurt, pushed over and stepped on, her leg was twisted in ways it shouldn't have. A young innocent early teenage girl said a few words she has never said and never said since. Nobody helped her though. The fire was bad. It spread quickly to the basement where the gas was at, a gas line burst and fortunately for Rose, no explosion was caused but it certainly did spread the fire. In thoughts of dying, Rose said her prayers there unable to stand and walk on her leg a guardian angel revealed itself. Her mother who was outside, ran inside on discovering her daughter was not outside in safety and like any knowingly mother, knew precisely where her child was.

Her mother picked her up quickly despite a size difference and began to take her upstairs. Upstairs Rose was revealed to the worst. The fire had spread quickly as there were flames every where. The door came in sight, everything was going to be ok. So one would think, and if some unworldly curse was thrown onto Rose. The second floor collapsed onto them, her mother with all her might through Rose towards the door. Rose watched in terror as the fire engulfed her mother and collapsed to the basement. The sight she saw permanently etched into her head. Shortly after the fire company arrived and a fireman rushed in and found Rose. She was carried out to safety only for seconds later an explosion occurred within the house.

Rose's mother was dead, and had it not been for her mother running back into to save her, Rose wouldn't have been found in time and she and a fireman would have been killed in that explosion.

Rose parked the car in the parking lot of the apartment she lived with her twin sisters and father. She walked in through the front doors and unto the third floor and inserted the key. It had been a long day at work. She put her stuff down on the kitchen counter.

"Rose!" Rose's tired face turned to that of a happy exhaustion as her two twin sisters ran into the kitchen.

    "Guess what?!" Emily exclaimed.

"We got to go to the park today!" Milly continued.

"I hope you didn't tire Mrs. Ross out too much." Rose said seeing emerge from the living room an elderly woman.

"Of course not dear. These two help keep my energy up. Now go run on you two." The woman, Mrs. Ross instructed. Mrs. Ross watched as the laughing twins ran off leaving the woman to chuckle. "Surely reminds me of when I used to baby sit you." She said smiling. Rose couldn't help but truly smile to that and reached into her pocket pulling out the change from her lunch: $3.57.

"I'm sorry I don't have the full amount." Rose apologized handing the woman the money.

"Apologize, I don't even want this from me. I always told your mother that whenever she couldn't keep an eye on you, I would, I stay true to that promise and my way of doing that is not accepting this money you keep handing me." Mrs. Ross said handing the money back like every day. Rose smiled.

"Well thank you, Mrs. Ross." Rose said smiling.

"Of course dear. I'll be around about 10am tomorrow." Mrs. Ross said.

"Perfect, I leave for work about 10:30. Thank you!" Rose said watching the old woman see herself out. Rose sighed slowly dragging her tired feet to the couch and sitting down. She looked at the time, 5pm. She internally moaned and stood back up to make dinner.

The Life of Rose Hart is nothing like anybody else her age would imagine.

"Uh... sure..." said Shuya as he led the man to the CVS, "Here we are, I'm going to get some ice cream, want some ?" asked Shuya as he walked into the store before his phone rang, "Hello." he said as he picked up only to hear what sounded like distorted breathing. "Odd..." said Shuya as he promptly hung up. Little did he know that on the roof of the store stood a large beast, it had the appearance of a dragon with the wings of a bird, it silently snickered to itself.

I'd never get tired of this!" Ryuu said as she made her way to sodas "Hmm lets see, which one should I get today? Ah I know root beer!" She took out the root beer and looked around to see If she wanted anything else before she left.

Minato red the book. As he read it longer, he took an interest into it. He puts a mark on the page he was reading. He closed the book and took it back to the bookcase/shelf.
"I'll read that book tomorrow, I guess, only if I had time..." Minato thought as he opened the door and walked around in this paradise called Heaven.

Until, he saw a dog that was near the waterfalls. The dog looked familiar, as it was Minato's friend dog, but not really a pet.
Minato ran in front of the dog. "I heard someone to forgive for his sins, bark!" The dog barked. Minato sat down in front of the dog and looked at him.
"I understand. Who do you think it is?" Minato said to the dog looking at him.
"Bark! It's a man, kind of religious." The dog replied. Minato looked pretty a little confused.
"Shall I tell God?" Minato asked the dog, and the dog nodded. Minato stood up and walks near a kingdom. It was God's Kingdom. Minato gives a letter to a guard.
"Someone want's to forgive? Very well, I shall talk to the Lord." The guard replied as he ran to a door in the distance.

"Come on, let's have some drink. You want some, right?" Minato looked at the dog. The dog wagged his tail and followed Minato.

Rose spent a quiet evening for the most part, her and her sisters enjoyed a wonderful meal, at 11pm after her sisters were definitely asleep, she sat awake for the one man to ruin her night. She heard the door slam not even flinching as she casually closed the book and set it n the table. She laid her hands on her lap and listened. She heard the fridge door open as something was put. She heard a cap come off of a glass bottle and a few seconds later she heard a loud crash of shattering glass. She heard the fridge door open again and it was repeat of the last, she'd hear that two more times before she heard another bottle of beer get taken out and she heard footsteps.

"What the hell are you doing he?" A man with a rough voice asked.

"I live here." Rose replied closing her eyes.

"Live here, oh right, my wife sacrificed herself for you to live, you should be dead." the man said.

"Im grateful of mom for this." Rose replied.

"mom? Hmph, she's dead, you shouldn't be here, you shouldnt be here, you're not my daughter you shouldn't be here in my apartment which I pay for."

"Dad, I pay for the apartment the little pay check you get you spend on beer." Rose answered sternly opening her eyes.

"Little?!" And there it went as he threw a glass bottle at her, she watched as if flew past her and shattered against the wall behind her. "I make a god damn ton of money! Hell lot more than what you make, bitch." The insults used to bother her, leaving Rose to cry, but over the years she has grown strong to deal with these insults where they don't even bother her anymore. She's seen depressed patients in the hospital and she knows her fat her is depressed she just can't afford to put him through therapy.

"Dad, I make $800 a month, $300 covers rent, $100 covers food, $300 covers insurance, $100 covers gas, that's just my job at the hospital, I make an additional amount working extra in the pharmacy that covers bills, and some extra. You make $600 at the bar, you spend $600 on alcohol." Rose pointed out. Her father walked off while she was explaining it and grabbed three more beers which he gulped down fast. He glared at her before throwing his empty bottle again towards her.

"wrong..." He said beginning to get woozy. It wouldn't be long before the one thing that did scare Rose would occur. He gulped another one.

"You should work as a slut at the bar, they're all beautiful and can teach you a thing or two." he said tripping a half full bottle as it broke and the content spilled. "God man you." he swore before taking another one he walked over towards Rose smiling at him.

"Lenora, oh how I've missed you. Thank god that bloody child is gone." he said. As Rose had grown older her resemblance to her mother was very strong, after a while the alcohol would get to her fathers head and he'd think hed be seeing her mother.

This involved less violence, compared to what would occur if she told him she wasn't her mother. He walked over and pulled her up and pulled her by the arm to his bedroom. The room was a mess, clothes every where, it smelled, there was broken glass everywhere, beer cans and bottles everywhere. He threw Rose down on to the bed which Rose went to quickly crawl away but her father held her down before climbing on. She watched as her father forced her scrub shirt over her head revealling the white cami underneath. She fought against him with all her might. Her cami was removed as she laid in a bra and her scrub pants.

"Damn are you sexy." He said into her ear in which she could smell the alcohol. She felt him pull her pants down next so she laid under her father in just a bra and underwear. Right when his hand began to struggle with her bra clasp she kicked him off and ran to her bedroom and locked the door. Every night she went through that torturous nightmare, they never changed.

    ...

The very next morning she awoke to her father passed out in his room. She sighed and went in forcing him to his feat and ready to go to work. He worked as an inventory man at a bar. The owner felt bad for her father and thought the job may help him stop drinking because he wouldn't be in the bar but rather working. It didn't instead her father would secretly and slyly be stealing the kegs of beer in bulk storing them in his truck.

She waited for Mrs. Ross to show up. Rose then left and drove her fathers truck right down the street before walking back and grabbing her own car and driving off.

She didn't start work till 1 that day and would work till 8 tonight. So she ran and did errands, her first job on the check list was to go to the pharmacy she worked extra hours at and pick up the Advil. She pulled into the car looking up at the light up sign for the CVS Pharmacy before heading inside.

"Hey Rose!" A man behind the counter waved to her as she waved back heading towards the medication aisle just past the container of icecream. She looked around the store in which only a few other customers were currently in at the moment. There were two young men, one was a few years younger than her about 15 or 17, the other appeared quite a few years old than her about 26 or 27. She glanced down at a young woman next, she too was about 16 or 17. She walked back and without even second guessing or reading she grabbed her typical Advil to relieve her killer migraine. She walked back to the front where the boy's phone rang. He answered it pleasantly but his pleasant face soon turned to one of confusion before hanging up.

"Odd..." the boy said before turning back to his friend.

Rose shrugged as she went to pay but stopped. Those men were looking at icecream, the other girl was eating icecream, it was around high 90's today in Fahrenheit. She signal led to the cashier to wait before she made her way over to the freezer to get herself an icecream.

"Time to go..." said the beast as it brought one of it's claws down upon the roof, tiles shattered as they hit the ground, the creature laughed as it landed on top of one of the cashiers.

"Ahem... lets see... Angels..." it growled as it pointed to Rose and Victor.

"And two Reapers... funny... two for two..." it said before walking towards Rose with it's fangs bared, "You first... I believe you'll be tasty..." it said getting closer.

"What?!" Rose exclaimed before jumping back.

'What... What is that thing?!' Rose thought to herself freaking out some before reaching behind her and throwing a bottle of nail polish remover. The glass bottle shattered as the alcohol covered the strange creatures face. She quickly backed away.

She was afraid but at the same time not, something also felt like it awakened within her. She stopped running to see how the creature reacted to the alcohol and to see how the other customers reacted to the strange monster, alien, creature, beast, thing.

The beast roared in frustration as it tried to scratch the nail polish out of it's eye, the other customers didn't seem to notice the beast but were panicking all the same.

"You little piece of..." the monster eye sockets were now empty as it inched closer to Rose, "I should poke your eyes out... and rip you in half. As it got closer Shuya could only stare at the beast in shock and fright, "The dream...it must be the dream !!!" he said as he began to run towards the beast.
