Welcome to the world of Shendalia. In this world exists a guild of mages who's mission is to protect the citizenry from the terrors of darkness that inhabit the world.

Mages have always existed to some extent, though never organized as they are now. Before the mage guilds older spell casters and crafters taught their arts to the young ones that sought them out. In this way the power and knowledge that is magic was passed down. That all changed when the Dark Mage Criso appeared. He always thought that the world lacked in creatures, and so he used powerful sorcery's to create a whole host of new creatures with a touch of darkness in them. These monsters usually kept to themselves but occasionally went wild and attack real people. In order to counter this the Order of Magic was formed, seven of the greatest mages allying together. They created the Seven Guilds of magic and taught the various peoples the various arts of magic.

This rp calls for about 5 or 6 members and is not advanced. Here are the forms of magic you may choose.

Circle: Circle magic involves inscribing a pentagram to harness the magic of the world into a task. The number of spells this can invoke is nearly limitless and includes the following
    Art of Pyromancy: Fire
Art of Necromancy: Raising the Dead
    Art of Thaumaturgy: Ice
Art of Construction: Creating mechanical constructs or imbuing living creatures with special powers.
Art of Summoning: Summoning various gaurdians from the Aether planes to aid the mage, mainly protecting the mage.
    Art of Storms: Water
    Art of Winds: Air.

Circle magic takes a great amount of time for enacting a spell because the circles vanish after casting a spell. Most circle mages keep sheats of paper on them with the spells already inscribed so they don't have to worry about redoing the spell. A circle that is given the mark "Eternal" will remain until it runs out of power. Circles do have a charge time as they pull in the power of the natural world. Mages haven't noticed anything like fire mana, or water mana, and have still used water spells around vocanic bodies and vice versa. They have noted that for some reason fire spells will be stronger around a Source of fire, and the same goes for other magics with the exception of summoning and construction.

Sorcery: Sorcery invokes the power hidden within ones body, and rarely ever takes power from the world around them. Sorcerers can do spells quickly but need to know the incantations of spells, and must have the power to use them. Most of the time if a sorcerer tries to invoke a spell and they don't have the power to use the spell it only works at half power and they pass out. The powers hidden in sorcery can do all the things circle magic can do.

Specialization: It is not every mage that takes the time to master one element above the others. These mages specialize in one magical art, and can create the most powerful of spells with the minimum amount of trouble. While circle mages can do the same these mages do not need to take the time to prepare the spell. They keep special objects such as gems or sources of the element they use in order to feed their magic. The downside is, of course, that they must forgo their other spells giving them a harder time dealing with situations that require spells outside of their chosen element. Mages that specialize don't need the incantations anymore, but use concentration on an action to work their spells.

Here are descriptions of the various schools you can pick. Specializing mages can only pick one.

Art of Pyromancy: The power of the earth itself. This school of magic involves great power and heat as spell casters send large balls of flame, or set explosions off with a word. This art loses out to Thaumaturgy.
Art of Necromancy: Rasing the dead can somtimes instill fear in the most vile of mages, and with good reason. Necromancers are looked down on as evil slime balls but not all are like this. A Necromancer who asks before reviving can make great friends with the ones he ressurects, though others will question having a skeleton as a friend. Necromancy loses out to construction.
Art of Thaumaturgy: Raining Ice on your foes is a technique that is quite dangerous in and of itself. A good thaumaturge will be able to craft icicls, walls, and freeze the surrounding landscape. They are also quite good on walking on slippery surfaces, and with good reason. Thaumaturgy loses out to necromancy.
Art of Construction: Constructing something is quite easy to do actually. The real art lies in making it move. This sort of power requires high attention to detail. Making a collusus that is just one piece can cause real problems when you want it to move. I hope I don't have to draw a picture. Construction loses out to summoning.
Art of Summoning: The Aether Planes are quite vast and wide, and many strange creatures exist upon it. Summoners specialize in ripping open the very fabric of reality to draw one such creature into this world. The creature can not remain forever, but it can do a vast amount of damage in the time it has. Summoning loses out to Fire.
Art of Storms: Lightening, Hail, and Rain is what awaits those who use this power. Calling up storms to aid farmers, or calling up thunder storms to fry your foes can be quite interesting.
Art of Winds: Some have launched attacks on foes only to discover that they blinked and that foe is gone. Wind users specialize in creating ripping gails, tornadoes, and levitation. Look out below. Wind loses out to Storms.

    Name: Alek Personas
    Age: 19
    Type of Mage: Specialist
    Favorite school of magic: Summoning
Description: Alek is a tall man with short spiky silver hair. His eyes are a deep blue, and his facial features are that of a calm, but loyal and fierce man. He wears a loose shiny blue and gold vest over his black alpacha wool T-Shirt. He wears light grey pants with silver armor protecting the knees.
History: Alek was born Aleksandr Thiiker to his parents 19 years ago. But even as they named him this, they realized they were too poor to take care of him. Strong magical strength ran in there family, however, and after they abandoned him he soon got lucky. At the age of one he stumbled upon a rusty iron bolt. Like any child would do, he began to study it. As he did so, he felt something touch him. As he did so, a minor being of the Aether came through what looked like a spark of golden fire in the center of the bolt. It offered him food, as luck would have it it was a being of maternity. She took care of him for the first ten years of his life. He grew up fascinated by this, and by the age of three he tried to do it again. He tried concentrating on it for ten minutes, a remarkable time for someone his age, but never got it. But as he was ready to give up, he found a circle chalked onto the ground by another spirit summoner. He looked at it in hatred for a second, wishing he could do it again, and suddenly he felt a connection, and light splashed through the circle, a small spirit of the likeness of a winged scorpion floating there. After he asked it to leave it disappeared (as all spirits are forced to, he soon would learn) and he tried again. This time, having just done it recently, he was able to contact the Aether just enough to summon another into the circle. From then on out he always carried his rusty bolt with him on a chain around his neck. Nowadays he uses a circle in the shape of a snake biting it's own head, but it is the same concept. He uses this trinket to specialize in summoning, as the memories of his past summonings that saved his life still burn within circles. He practiced summoning until the age of ten, when the spirit was forced to leave because he had been mad and dismissed her. And because he did not know her name, he could not summon her again. He used the summoning of spirits from the Aether for three more years to survive, but then learned of another thing. He accidentally reached too low when attempting to touch the Aether, and instead contacted the Nether. The Demon he summoned out of there tried to kill him, but he summoned a spirit of water known as Aquarius who defended him. Since then he has studied so many books of memorable spirits that he could have listed more than anyone else. He also experimented himself with summoning new ones. He knows many, many spirits, some of which his good friends with. He has tried to control spirits from the Nether, but always they have ignored what he said and attacked him. At 15 he was finnaly found by the guild of pyromancy, who seeing his talent at summoning, sent him to the guild of summoning, he was by far their best apprentice, but he still gained quite a bit of knowledge by the time he ventured out on his own. His closest friend, a sorcerer named Arden who was just here for a year, helped him with his experiments into the nether. When he arrived, he didn't really know his name, so he combined what little he remembered of his name "Alek" and a particularly powerful spirit of identity "Personas".
Personality: Alek is a loyal friend to all he meets. He is always smiling, even in a fight if he's convinced it will help the world. He is curious about everything he doesn't know, and thus has learned more than the average man. He considers himself a friend to all he summons, and would never keep a spirit in his posession unnesecarily unless it wanted to be there.
I may post Arden soon as well.

    Name: Haru Kenta

    Gender: Male

    Age: 28

    Type of Mage: Sorcery

Favorite School: Art of Summoning (With a secondary being Construction)

Description: Haru is a Broad shouldered man, who constantly wears a very detailed, Black and Silver Cloak. To keep his sleeves from getting in his hands, he wraps a peice of cloth around his wrists, closing off the opening in the sleeve. He has a middle aged face, with a goatee. His hair is Golden brown, with a kind of shine to it. He keeps it combed back, and is wrapped in the back into a short pony tail.

History: Haru joined when he was about 17, and has stuck around since. He has always had problems getting around people, so he, sub-consciously, chose to specialize in Summoning. He has become friends with the monsters he summons, so that they can fight side by side with more ease.

Personality: He is not very outgoing, but he very friendly and ready to learn something new. He doesn't get close to people very well, and often stays to himself, but when there is work to be done, he is reliable enough to get it done without fear of failure.

I hope I'm not to late, the rp sounds very interesting.

Edit: We talked it over, and Gannon was fine with me switching to Sorcery instead of Instant, So I added a secondary as well to the type of school. I hope that is ok.

^ Ughgh... I just chose to specialize in summoning. I would appreciate it if you could choose a different one, but you don't HAVE to.

I'm amazed this got off the ground. Des is accepted.

Gannon circles break after one use. I'll include a more detailed description, sorry I missed it. Otherwise looks great.

Denki you can choose something else but if you really want summoning its yours.

Just so you know summoning a spirit is vastly difficult and requires a vast amount of magical power. Most of the time a summoner can only call one spirit in a day. Maybe two. Spirits leave under three conditions:
    1. As gannon rightly guessed a spirit MUST leave as ordered.
    2. The spirit takes enough damage that it must flee.
    3. Spirits may only remain in the living world for a single week. Some, such as the maternity spirit, can remain for many years but grow weaker as they go. Eventually they die, and others lose their powers. As such if they reach their time limit they must leave.

Oh, I think you forgot something: I'm not a circle mage. I'm a specialized. I don't actually use it like a circle mage does, I just keep it around as the memories help boost my power like the trinkets you mentioned in the descriptions. It was the same with the iron bolt. Also, is it OK if Alek eventually gains the power to summon monsters from the Nether as well as Aether? They aren't more powerful or anything, they just are different. And I didn't guess, I read it.

    Name: Tonmoko

    Age: 13

    Type of Mage: Circle

    Favorite School: Art of Necromancy

Description: A young boy that is 5'2 and weighs less than 100 pounds. Tonmoko has smooth skin except on the area of his right arm where he bears a birth mark resembling a dagger like shard. His hair somewhat spiky and considerably long displays an absent of color (light) that gives the word dark a new meaning. His facial structure is slim but not frail. The boy's lips seem adjusted as if it won't waver to become a frown or a smile. His nose is average like any other and Tonmoko's eyes is a dull grey that emanates a depressing/emotionless vibe. His attire consists of a tight greyish silk undergarments fit for flexibility (apparently the sleeves have been torn and the pants layered with strange designs and pockets), he has black straps placed on his shoulders containing inscribed pentagrams, etc, and a silver mage type cloak that is too short coming down to mid stomach. The boy's shoes are nothing special but are endurable.

History: Tonmoko is a young boy some would think he doesn't have too much of a history but their wrong. His parents were normal people who never fooled in the art of magic. They believed it was the "devil" and in other words "witchcraft". They were loving parents and had great morals. "Key word were". Tonmoko was five when his parents died but they didn't die of natural causes. It was the "shadows" he called them in reality they were Criso's creatures. Young as he was ,in the hour of the night, his parents were brutally slaughtered in cold blood in front of his very eyes. Now as an orphan he traveled and survived on his own depending on no one for help. During his trials and tribulations he discovered magic in an ironic twist was infatuated by its uses and origin. Later on he becomes a circle type mage but truly excels at necromancy. Possibly because of a desperate act of gaining what he has lost.

Personality: Tonmoko is silent and will pay no attention to anyone even when talked too or confronted. He is also cruel and has no sense of justice or morals. This boy is a loner and avoids people in general. While in combat he is calm and open minded truly connected to the essence of magic itself. In addition he has a deep hatred for Criso genuinely to the point of the cost of any life including his own.

Aight, I think I got this:
    Name: Gryphon (No last name)
    Age: 46
    Type of Mage: Sorcery
Favorite School: Summoning, Construction, and Necromancy are his favorites, but as you can guess, he isn't very skilled in the other arts (but can use them to an extent).
    Description: [IMG]
Looks pretty good for his age, doesn't he? ;)
History: Gryphon joined the guild at the age of 35 and is one of the guild's senior members. He doesn't talk about his past, but it is by no means secret. At the impresionable age of 9, his village was destroyed by the creatures Criso summoned. Homeless and an orphan, he was taken in by an old man who also happened to be a member of the guild, and taught him the arts of sorcery (He is dead now). He enjoys the arts of Construction, Necromancy, and Summoning because as a young boy, they gave him company. Now a senior himself, he summons the creatures for their council rather than having a playmate. His most summoned creature is a little ball of fur with two huge eyes, no limbs, and a massive apetite. This ball of fur was affectionately named 'Fuzzly' when he was a child and the name has stuck. Fuzzly is about the size of one's head, brown fur, massive (and cute) black eyes, and when he eats, he has teeth unmatched in their sharpness, and thus he can eat almost anything. When Fuzzly does eat something, it just seems to disappear. Fuzzly is easily Gryphon's best friend.
Personality: Being one of the oldest living members, Gryphon acts something of a father-figure to the others and is also almost always the mediator when an argument arises. Fuzzly is innocent, can get quite angry if pushed far enough, but is kind and caring, often offering to share a meal with someone (usually it is something a human can't eat).

    Second Character:
    Name: Arden Blitzwalker
    Age: 18
    Type of mage: Sorcerer
Favorite school: Pyromancy, but also uses quite a bit of Thaumaturgy.
Description: http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs14/f/2007/098/1/7/Fire_mage_by_devrimkunter.jpg only he wears leather armor.
History: Arden started working across all the magical guilds training as a sorcerer at the age of 8. He started with Pyromancy, in which he nearly failed. He repeated that class 3 times, and finally, on the third, succeeded with outstanding grades. He then took a year in each guild, training in their subject. He had always hated the idea of summoning something that didn't want to be here, so he saved summoning for last. He noticed a natural talent for thaumaturgy, and wished he had just specialized in that. But with just a year of thaumaturgy and 3 of pyromancy (in which he had been taught how to maximize it despite not being able to use it well till the third) he was still better in pyromancy. Then after learning a bit of every form of magic he finally took summoning. He first summoned a spirit common for those with little talent because it lingered on the outside edges of the Aether, known as Itemus, spirit of the earthbound. He quickly dismissed it, hoping it wasn't in pain from the summoning. He eventually progressed to middle lower level Aether beings such as Eltyiala, spirit of motherly love otherwise known as the maternity spirit, but dismissed her as well since he had no use for a mother and didn't want to keep her without a purpose. That was as far as he got. He also ended up good friends with a specialized summoner named Alek Personas (although Arden had actually helped invent that name. All the summoner remembered about his name was Alek. So he suggested trying the spirit of identity, Personas. He had actually meant that he should ask the spirit his name, but instead Alek named himself Alek Personas.)
Personality: Arden is a bit of a rogue, but hates seeing people suffer. He is usually lighthearted if nothing is wrong, and is often playing pranks. He hates those who would harm innocents, and it seems the angrier he gets the more likely he is to thrash out with Pyromancy.

Ohh okay, thanks. Well here's my character:

    Name: Yubel
    Age: 20
    Type of Mage: Specialist
    Favorite School: Art of Necromancy
    Appearance:

Description: Yubel stands at an average height of 5'5 with long black hair trailing down her back which she likes to leave untied. She has a peculiar eye color of which resembles that of a posessed cat and some say that if you look into her eyes long enough, you will indeed end up posessed. She likes wearing a necklace and a bracelet around her left wrist. She has what is often mistaken as a tatto on her left arm but really it is the source of her magical abilities.

History: Yubel was orphaned at the age of 2 and has no recollection of who her parents are or were for that matter and therefore does not possess a family name. She spent 6 years in the orphanage before she was forced to leave. The cause of her forced departure was the sudden activation of her powers. Normally when a youngling awakens his/her power, its a joyous occasion because then the child is later on inducted into a guild of their choosing and the family or institution is looked upon with interest, especially if the youngling goes on to be a powerful Mage. But in this case, it brings utter chaos and shame to the family or institution that housed the the newly awakened. Yubel was constantly and mercilessly picked on for the unusual color of her eyes, the weird birthmark on her left arm and for the fact she stuttered whenever she spoke. It had gotten to a point at which it was so bad that she hid in her room and only came out for meals. One day, walking back from the girls restroom, she was jumped by children who were 2 years older than her, beaten up and then stuffed into a nearby broom closet. As the children began to laugh at her, something within her snapped. Suddenly the door burst open and shattered into what seemed like a thousand pieces, prompty slashing the throats of those who were the closest to the door. Those who survived were then devoured by the undead spirits she conjured. She then immediately started attacking any and everyone who crossed her path, regardless if they played a part in making her life hell or not.
Her rampage went on until the higher ups of the facility brought her down. But by then it was already too late. Yubel had murdered 467 children (out of 1500) and 34 elite guardsmen (out of 300). She doesnt remember what happened after she was knocked unconcious. What she does know is that she was sentenced to death and then abandoned in the most dangerous part of the Monchipaku Forest. She spent 3 months in that forest, defending and ultimately surviving until one day a stranger appeared, asking her if she needed any help but by that point, there was no reasoning with her as she was too fargone in her own animalistic world. The stranger had to then knock her unconscious as Yubel began attacking her. The stranger was more than shocked when she saw the child exhibit such raw power and she clearly had a knack for necromancy even if she didn't know it yet.
When Yubel had woken, she was in a unknown room, laying in a strange bed that was ridiculously soft. A series of events happened as soon as she met the owner of the strange home. The identity of the stranger was revealed. It turned out it was a women in supposedly her late 20's who up till this point, lived by herself. Her name was Charrise Lefevre. Charisse then put Yubel under intensive care, she had to relearn how to read, write, speak and hold a normal conversation, and soon after she was inducted into the guild at the age of 10 in which she was then taught how to control and call upon her powers by Charisse herself. Yubel quickly grasped the lessons brought before her and swiftly rose through the ranks of the guild and has become a very talented and powerful young Mage.
On more than one occasion, Charisse would question Yubel about family and if she wanted to join hers. Charisse made it very clear she'd be very willing to adopt her but Yubel always declined her offer claiming she wasn't ready. So to this day, the two of them live peaceful in a two story cottage on the outskirts of a properous village.

Personality: Yubel can be the sweetest, helpful person in Shandalia one minute but and the most unstable, manipulative and sadistic the next. Charisse noticed that her personality switches to whenever she becomes frustrated, sad or angry. *

    @ Gannon

A circle is a circle. Once used a pentagram breaks and that includes all of them. The easiest and most efficient way to summon a spirit is to use a circle. You can incant it if you want but the incantation is highly complicated. The more powerful the spell, the longer and tougher the incantation must be. Didn't think about Nether much but if you like.

@All accepted. I'll put up a post later.

btw, could you explain the difference between circle and sorcery? I get how circle magic works, and I think I have an understanding of sorcery (hence why I picked it) but I just wanna make sure.

@Zerieth I don't use it as a summoning circle. More as a trinket. I'm a specialized, and according to your description of that, I don't need a circle or incantation and I am very good at it. Obviously the iron bolt I first used as a circle broke, but I kept it with me as the memories attached to it helped me perform. Now I have a new one for that as the memories carry over to any circle for me. And is Arden approved?

@Gannon Arden works. I didn't notice you specialized in that form of magic. In that case I would use something other than a circle. Maybe a special mark on a chain? I dunno. Anyways remember that while you may specialize in something you are still bound by the constraints on that something. Summoning takes a lot of power depending on the medium you choose, and there are limits that you need to follow. Also since you are maining in summoning all your basic techniques will suck. Just wanna make sure you are aware.

@Sae: Nice to have a newby join us. Take a good gander at the RP rules section so you know what your doing friend. Looking forward to rping with ya. That said please look over your character some and tell me why you feel that playing someone who is a tad scytso is a good plan. Playing someone that is emotionally unstable can play havoc on a players ability if they are not prepared. If you are still interested in trying this VM me on my wall and I I'll off some advice. I wrote up a character once that was like that and ultimately went insane. It's a lot of work but a lot of fun.

@All players with younger characters: Mine is looking for an apprentice in a cafe. If you wanna take on that role post that you are waiting for him. Else I can make someone up.
