What?! They may be easy to die but at least it is them that we can at least get rid of enemies who can melt from water like the Wicked Witch of the West. Well, it is just like the gunner class. Who is your favorite black mage. Why? What makes them stand out form the rest. Black magic is what makes them so great anyways with even powerful effects. Which is why the word "Ultima" was able to become a favorite deriviation for the Ultima weapon.

Lulu because she knows how to balance skill and power with it

I love Vivi, but i find Lulu a better black mage. Plus, I'm more familiar with FFX then IX.

    Well...

Vivi: Trance Mode allows him to cast two black spells in succession. Can use Focus to strengthen his spells.
Lulu: Best evasion tied with strong magic. Can also slap her opponents as a counterattack. Overdrives allows her to cast multiple black spells at a weaker force and she can use dolls. Sarcastic and stoic but can also be gentle.
Shantotto: My Favorite rhymer. (In a Dissidia sense) Is Agile, evasive, and speedy unlike other black mages. Though she has a lot of status ailments to inflict, she has a long recovery time and her attacks can be slow. Her Ex Mode allows her to still keep her bravery value and for her to actually "Play Rough". Powers changes depending on bravery.
Black Mage Dressphere: Meh. Think of Lulu but without the overdrive and cannot attack physically. Has abilities to cast black magic faster.
Rydia: A summoner but learns black magic at a slower pace.

Gosh. This is hard. Lulu or Shantotto...

I think Lulu is the best black mage. She had a lot of magic to choose from, and with one MP cost and good stats, she's a useful member of the team. I prefer FF IX, but I didn't have a whole lot of use for Vivi. I'm more into physical attacks in that game. I didn't use the black mage dressphere in X-2 much, except to learn all of the abilities. The rest I don't know.

yea. I decided to choose Lulu over Shantotto. She is great with overpowered magic and to never lose any bravery; She take her time way too much to cast her spells!! Lulu on the other hand, would excel in black magic. To me, she rivals Sorceress Ed... DX OH NO! I went and accidentally left out Sorceress Edea!!!

Why would she be classed as a black mage? When you use her in battle, she doesn't automatically come with magical skills- you have to junction her just like anyone else. And though her limit deals with black magic (ice, anyhow), Selphie has access to even more in hers. And if you're gonna call Edea a black mage, Rinoa should also go into that category, because her Angel Wing limit shoots black magic at the enemies.

There's also a black mage job in V that could have been added to the poll, though I don't recall using it very much.

I still think Lulu is the best example here. At least out of the ones I recognize.

Edea, Selphie and Rinoa were the ones that I forgot. Edea and Rinoa is because they are sorceresses and Selphie because of her limit break. Also, I classified Edea as a black mage because she excels in magic and magical defense but little in anything else, which is really is what a black mage is known for. Think you could add those three to the list Toph?

Except in game, she shows no aptitude for it. If you junction a GF to her and give her strong magic attached to her strength stat, she'll be a hard physical attacker like Squall. Perhaps, with no junctioning on any characters, just looking at base stats, her magic and magic defense is a little higher, but not enough, I think, to make a difference. VIII is all about the junctioning. You can make any character whatever you want them to be.

No, because I personally don't consider any of them as true black mages. XD

XD Meanie. Still, I suppose that it is true. FFVIII game style allows you to have you build up anyone who is lacking in another department but I still think that Edea is a black mage.

As for the FFX-2 black mage... meh. I felt so limited. It is fun to be able to use a spell to damage multiple enemies but still...just bleh.
