Too much Frank Sinatra lately... and NGE...
    anyway...
Here, because I want to improve.
I'm starting to fiddle around with graphics again but can't seem to make them look "finished". Something is always missing from them in my opinion.

From my earlier days (went through cleaning my laptop and only found this one)

And still using Gimp because I'm true nUb.
Photoshop will be coming soon for me =]

I seriously want CnC instead of useless
    comments.
As nice as they are (actually I find them quite mean, you're not helping me out and only saying what one would like to hear) they aren't really helping me.

Thanks in advanced to those who can help me out.

you tend to use more than one focal which is hard to pull off. Stick to using one render or whatnot.
You have the basic idea of flow down which is cool and keep playing with that.
I suggest you play with Depth and Gradients for now. give your work a deeper feel.
Download some newfonts from Dafont, keep them plain and relativly small but merge the text, make them overlap or touch and see how that looks on your next sig.

Generally I like your sigs, show a huge ammount of potential and they are very impressive on gimp.

Made a few before, thought they were much the same as the one on the first post here so I won't be posting them.

One Focal point (I think) and I cut a snippet off the text at the edge of the border. Looks more creative to me =P

You did a nice job with the protruding fist. The colors in the background and text don't fit together well, in my opinion. I find the big red text especially distracting.

What I'd suggest, for both of the sigs you posted recently, is to play around with the text some more and maybe try out some brushes or lighting effects. It would help add some depth.

People complain about the suckiness of GIMP, but I've seen some really good sigs come out of it. So just keep practicing with the various tools.

I don't know why I made three, but I was just trying different things (seemed to explain itself right there).
I said "screw text" for now, it never really fit when I kept trying.

I seem to be using the "smudge" tool a bit more than others.

    I actually..really like this.
But the issue is that the red fragments look a tad LQ, the longer you stare at them. If you could find a way to fix that, that'd be great.

I really like these, too. I think I like the first variation the best. The red fragments do look a little off, though. *shrugs*

I tried, then failed. So I just got rid of them to see how it would turn out for now.

I tried something new today. Using a drawn image. I would like to say I drew it but it was actually a friend of mine who traced it and finished it off with a felt pen.
    [IMG] [IMG]
The drawn image is in the back and I used a render of the exact drawn image.

How did you do that border style? I use photoshop CS4

I'll try my best explaining. (assuming you're asking about the ones which have the render passing over the border)
I make the background thing first, and then place it (the background thing) on a new project which has a bigger height. Place it at the bottom of the new project and place the render on top of it all. Afterwards fiddle around with it all and delete all excess bits that you don't want and should not be.
And all my stuff have been done on Gimp

I figured I liked the way it turned out to be honest. Maybe one too many sparkly things (the one above the L and I) and I'm having trouble getting the render (Nobue one) to fit/blend in (I think). Any tips for that?

Blur the edges of the render and then sharpen the vital parts(face, neck, etc.).

legitimate old bump. Just trying to get into some sort of hobby to pass some time again. I haven't done much graphics in some time so to those who have helpful things to say (negative or positive), please do so. Thanks.

Wondering if I've improved from my old stuff.
I just did this one today quickly. Like this first one, I think I've kind of done the two focal point thing again (I think I like filling up space instead of leaving it empty). It's something kind of new to me, I've never really had one effect overlaying and being behind focal points at the same time. Each time I do, it looks terrible and I always scrap it and start all over.

And I'll also throw this one in. It took me a long time to get it right ever since my absence from graphics.

I enjoy it's simplicity and always seem to find myself looking towards the grenade head man. Wondering if that's just me or if I've really made the focal point the main event of the sig.

I find your text very distracting, moreso on the second signature. The color of the text in the Yuffie sig doesn't mesh well with the cooler shades in the background and render. I also think the fonts are too big. Then again, text is the bane of my sig-making existence- I avoid it whenever possible, and tend to counsel people to do the same.

Not quite. The trouble with your earlier sigs was that you would include more than one image, which can be tricky to pull off well. Here, you have one focal point (or rather, that's your intention), but the background (notably the brightness on the left side) is a little busy and my eye is also drawn to that.

Overall though, I'd say the Yuffie sig is a decent effort. I think you should try adding some depth to your sigs, but I'm unsure how to tell you to go about doing that, because I'm unfamiliar with GIMP.

    On to sig number 2:

Yes, my eye is mostly drawn to the grenade man, but I think it's mostly because of the quality of the image. The bright red and black is hard to ignore. Though the text is competing very hard for my attention.

Aside from that, I don't know. It's a little messy for my liking, but I think that's your style. I also think some depth could be added here, but again, not sure how you'd go about doing that.

I guess that's all I got now. Take from it what you will, keeping in mind this is all just my opinion. Keep practicing and all that. ^_^

One thread is enough for me, bumping this one.

I'll be editing this one again soon for the SOTW. I see mistakes
Anyway, from anyone pro? Just tried doing something a bit new for this SOTW freestyle theme. Is this an effective way to make a sig?
