As a lot of you guys know, Kingdom Hearts has grown to be wildly popular in recent years and hopefully the game will only continue to prosper in the coming years. The thing is I've heard a lot of debates concerning whether or not the first is indeed the best of the series.

Traditionally the arguments range from the storyline to the gameplay to setting, and so on! Personally I feel as though the first of the series was the best purely because I felt the plot was written better overall. If you don't know, I'm the type of guy who chooses story over gameplay any day.

Essentially the story worked out like this, Boy begins dreaming weird stuff, but chalks it up to the fact that him and his friends are seeking new adventures and his mind is imagining new and exciting places for him. So he plans with his friends a way to start their quest for new lands, although it doesn't work out and they end up losing their home in the process.

So far so good right? Not really since the start is so cliche because pretty much every RPG's used that beginning. The story drifts into a more creative one involving space travel and venturing out to see interesting creatures, there Sora learns a thing or two about his powers. The story develops even more as old friends and new friends clash, and eventually betrayal.

In a nutshell the story is very interesting with hardly any filler other than the optional sidequest stuff; every world has relevance to the plot, and that makes traveling a necessity. While in the game's sequel, traveling seems to barely have an impact on the plot and seems more like a big waste of time in most of the worlds; only a few have anything interesting to give to the plot.

It's cute and all, but the disney world feel like a filler for you to properly level up your character as most players would easily get bored grinding their characters in a single setting.

Does anyone else feel like the first was the better of games so far?

Oh yeah, that's a definite. Kingdom Hearts 2 definitely improved the gameplay making the combat system much better, albeit slightly easier than the first. Reaction commands have always been an awesome addition and I've always wondered why they did not make a reaction-based battle for Sora similar to what they did to Roxas.

The twilight thorn has always been my favorite boss for KH2

Well, I'm probably not the best person to comment on this, because I've only played KH, COM, and KH II. But out of those three, I think that the original KH is the best. It's not really even a close competition for me.

I definitely agree with this. I think the story was much more closely knit- by which I mean the stories of the individual worlds fit into the main story of the game very well. In KH II, as you mentioned, some of the worlds just didn't quite seem to belong. The worlds also felt extremely short compared with KH I, and the characters just couldn't touch my heart (that sounds corny, but its the best description I could think up right now XD) as much in KH II.

Story and characters is the most important part of a game for me, but I even liked the gameplay the best in the original game. I enjoyed KH II in its own way, and I liked what I got to experience of COM's story, but to me, both of those games are a little too flawed to beat KH I.

Oh definitely Kingdom Hearts 2 had one of the best gameplay in the series - Reaction command was a really great move to accurately depict Sora's growth as a warrior in the series... except for that moment where he seemingly phased through the building and it fell apart moments later. I don't get why that was even included and what relevance it had to the battle..

It was simply one of those "cool" moments?

Yeah, CoM was a great game, even on the GBA, but honestly I found Axel's serious personality between this game and his lighthearted personality in the second game to be utterly frustrating to the point where I couldn't take the game as serious as I once did.

As I liked the story of Kingdom Hearts(1), I actually prefered Kingdom Hearts 2. At this moment none of us truly realize who Roxas is in the begining and him getting memories of a boy he doesn't even know is kind of a scary thought and just seeing Roxas's reaction in the begining help the story out.

Then after Sora comes back, SE still keeps the game interesting by throwing in many mysteries.

So yes I like the story better in that one.

Now granted I haven't 'played' BBS yet, I have watched most of the Japanese English translated cutscenes and I know a lot of the story from that game.

I'm not going to judge quite yet, but I'm going to say BBS will probably have the better storyline.

Now as for gameplay since you mentioned this and no one else really has, for all the game play(of games I haven't played) I liked how Kingdom Hearts(1) was a bit more dificult, however I did prefer the graphics, appearence, and controls better in Kingdom Hearts 2

See, for the most part, I agree with you; the story of Kingdom Hearts 2 was exceptionally written. However, I found the pacing of the overall story to be tedious at times. Essentially I really did not like how the disney worlds had little to no relevance to the story and only in the original story worlds did the story start up again.

Kingdom Hearts 2 felt like to me, story line, story line, filler, filler, filler, very tedious filler with a cameo character, story line, filler, filler, filler with songs (wtf..? 0.o), story line, story line, filler filler with lions, story line, repeat all the filler worlds for extra EXP, story line, storyline, and finale!

Notice all the filler? I did.. I probably wouldn't have gone through the entire if it was for the interesting storyline. No, really that really was the only thing that kept me going. Oh that and the form drives - those were cool.

It's definitely true that Kingdom Hearts 2 develop the characters well enough to make me curious as to what the keyblade is and who wants it. They did a great job on that.

I myself like CoM's story the best, and the card system for battles wasnt too bad until one of my shoulder buttons decided to not work.

KH II has the best battle system out of the three games Ive played, but KH I does have the better story.I like all three, though the filler,as you say, does get alittle in the way for KH II.

Unlike Shadow,Im just going to say the BBS will most likely be my favortie once I can play it.From what I have seen the battle system is even better as is the story!

What I found frustrating was the gameplay. I tried, but I just could not get into the card system, at all. And it ultimately just ruined the game for me.

With KH II, Raven is right about the story. It was full of fillers. The graphics, controls, and all that was an improvement over KH, but I liked KH's battle system better. I prefered the way MP was used, I prefered the abilities (Strike Raid, Ars Arcanum, and dodge roll), and the bosses just seemed more difficult. I'll admit that I'm a terrible button masher in general- I attack a lot, use magic to cure, and keep on attacking, without always doing a whole lot of strategizing. But in KH II, I felt like I did it even more. The reaction commands were cool, but a little too useful. So even though KH II was far from a shit game, and the original is not perfect, I think KH had more aspects I liked. It wins.

    :D

    Ventus Kickass Keyblader!

The first is by far still the best game of the series in terms of how special it was to me. It was the first video game to make me cry, lol. I was 10 years old when I played it. It was so good I wish someone would erase my memory and I could play it once more, not knowing everything. The gameplay was solid but the story for me was perfect and still is. I think I beat Kingdom Hearts about 30 times. That's how great I thought it was. I played nothing else, lol...well except for Digimon Rumble Arena 2 and the Ratchet and Clank games.

True, dodge roll should have been more then a reaction command for that one bomb enemy.Glad its back for Ven in BBS.I never used magic that much at all in KH or KH II except for Cure and Thunder, though I did use magic for certain things (Fire in KH againt Parasite Cage first time,Fire in KH II for fun,Aero and Stop for secret bosses and FIre/Ice/Thunder since you had too for Phantom, and sometimes Protect in KH II)

One of the reasons I like KH:CoM was probably because I used more magic in that game, even if it was to make my physical attacks better (richoceting keyblade anyone? One of my favorite tactics).Probably a reason I want BBS,magic seems to be really awesome in it,especially with Aqua.

Well, I know this isn't really fair 4 those of u who haven't played BBS yet, but BBS is the best for me. The gameplay is much better, the story is well written, especially with the ending, I just seem to like sad endings (It's what made me like 358 Days). The characters are also more connectable, which is something that not a lot of other KH characters can claim from me. Now, I'll admit, this is probly a little bias considering that even tho I LOVE Roxas, I can't stand Sora.
