The Key Bearer's Sleep

Sora slowly woke up still tired. She rubbed out her head from the tiredness and turned towards her right at the wall and opened up the bamboo shutter revealing the open window letting light shine in. She got up looking around her small room. On the floor was a knited rug her mother made right before she had passed away. On the wall hung some more of her mother's crochet and knited blankets and designs. Sora walked over to a curtain drawn closet looking space revealing a small bathroom sort of thing her architural father had designed. She jumped in the tub filled with fresh clean rain water from a few nights ago and she washed off. She finished getting herself ready and threw on her sundress and bamboo sort of flipflops. She stepped back into her room and headed over to another curtain stepping out to an open area. It was a sort of private living room with a ceiling made from wood, bamboo, straw and leaves. There was a wooden table and four chairs. It made her frown. Two of them weren't filled anymore.

Sora's mother grew ill and passed away a year ago, her little sister went missing a week ago. She looked at her little sisters curtain drawn hut sort of room knowing she wouldn't come dragging her feet out of it anymore. She frowned. She heard the curtain draw and looked towards her parent's room, now just her father's room. "Good morning, Sora. You heading down to breakfast?" Her father asked. Her father never left there hut. He was always design some new contraption. That's why their hut was one of the biggest and extraordinary on the island. It was only bigger because nobody else wanted to go to the top of the trees where as Sora's father did and took up 6 tree tops building it.

Sora nodded answering her father. "Yeah, I'll probably go meet up with Ao first." Sora told her father. "Ok have fun today, and Sora... please be safe." Her father said and looked worried saying the last part. It was the samething everyday. Sora nodded and climbed down a ladder to another room below the room she was at. This room was anything special. It was enclosed. There were some chairs and more of her mother's designs. Sora headed towards the door that swung open. She picked up the latch that her father had design to lock the door and she stepped out on to the wooden balcony. Now it was just below the trees and was shaded by the trees. To her right was the tree trunk of the biggest tree supporting the hut with a stone plaque Sora's sister manage to make reading "I'll Hug You Again Mommy" Little would the young girl who made it realise how soon, nor would Sora know that. She frowned and sighed reading that and turned aroudn to her left. There was a wooden bridge connecting to a few neighbors huts that were rather small. Sora walked past one each hearing a neighbor saying goodmorning to her.

She walked past the hut of one of the oldest who spoke a completely different language that Sora learned to pick up on some words. She continued from bridge to bridge, each one decending finally she got to the last bridge. She saw Ao on it and she waved but he turned around and went back inside seeming mad about something. She quickly ran down and knocked on the door. "Ao!" She called out waiting for him to come out.

 

"Dad's still depressed, it's been a week now since Soey has been seen." Sora frowned referring to her sister going missing. "Besides that, pretty good. What about you? You're going to miss breakfast if you don't get up." Sora called to him crossing her arms. 'He always was a sleeper, he could sleep through a tropical ocean storm and he wouldn't know it' Sora thought to herself before letting out a mental sigh. That was one thing about Ao, Ao was sort of like her brother, or at least she always viewed it that way.

 

Ice woke up and looked around his room, a sheet of sunlight invaded the dark that he normally allowed into his room to accompany his sleep. He got out of bed and walked across to the curtains and decided to open them instead of closing. As he opened them he saw the majestic sea, strolling back and forth lapping onto the extravagent beach. He had a quick wash in his bamboo shower, using cold water obviously, before sliding on some shorts and a T-Shirt. He stepped outside and was struck by the warmth of the sun beaming down on him. "Breakfast." He said under his own breath.

He decided to take a detour and walk across the beach towards the breakfast hall, while he was staring out into the sea, a group of young kids threw some small sticks at him, and began to pick up wooden swords to fight him with. He was,after all, known for neber losing a fight. As they charged at him he jumped to the side to dodge thier attacks, he found he had no weapon so scooped up a pile of sand and threw it towards them, creating a dust cloud that temporarily blinded them.

When they could see again, one of them found that their sword was missing, when they looked up, it was in Ice's hands. He dashed towards them hitting every single one of their swords with lighning speed, and disarmed all the children. The children ran away. "Definatley Breakfast."

He came out of the beach when he saw Sora talking to Ao, he walked up to them and simply said, "Hey."

 

Sora nodded. "If you're still in bed by lunch, I'm coming to get you and dragging you out of bed." Sora said crossing her arms before grabbing hold of the rope that hung down. There was a ladder, but Sora always took the "Fun" route over the easy one. She slid to the bottom and stood next to Ice. She shrugged some and started walking on down the street hands behind her back enjoying the morning. Something started to concern her and she stopped. Ao seemed different and concerned, maybe worried or upset about something else. Something he hid well but now that she thought about it, there was definately something up. She stopped on the beach and turned back around.

"Hey Ice hold on a sec, something's up. "She said looking back up at Ao's tree. She quickly ran back. "Hey Ao!" She called back up the tree and quickly climbed up the ladder this time and got up on the deck. "Come on, you're coming to breakfast if you like it or not." She said standing outside his door.

 

"There's something bothering you, I can tell we've only pratically grew up togeather for me to easily tell that something's bother you." Sora said crossing her arms looking him straight in the eye her bright blue eyes pratically scream explain and spill it now. "Come on, do you not want to go to breakfast, would you rather go find you're own fruit around the island, what is it?" Sora asked though she highly doubt it was any of those.

 

'Something's up.' Sora thought to herself crossing her arms. 'I saw him walk outside perfectly normal earlier than he walked back inside.' "Well you need energy in you to fight this, and breakfast is a lot healthier, plus you need fresh air something you don't get in your stuffy old hut. and my mom always said that sunlight is the best thing to fight viruses." Sora told him. 'I will make him spill it if I have to torture him till I do get it out' She thought to herself. She stood there a while longer and mentally sighed.

 

Ice decided to keep out of it, he too had realised that something was wrong with Ao, but sometimes people just need space, especially when they've got some kind of disease or virus. Eventually this thought grabbed him and he empathized with Ao.

He leaned over to Sora and quietly whispered into her ear, "Lay off him Sora, he's just a bit sick and needs some time to get over it."

He leaned back and continued to walk towards the breakfast hall. Wonderful fruity and exotic smells invaded his head and made him feel quite woozy and light headed. A wonderful diamond cut glass caught his eye. Filled with a sparkling light pink rosé wine. He got to the bar and carefully took a glass, searched for the liquid and ladelled some into the glass.

 

"Nnnnngh....." Gryphon groaned, leaning out of his bed in the orphanage. Feeling his way along the walls, Gryphon made his way out of his room and walked towards breakfast. "Another Day....." Gryphon whispered to himself. Finally getting to where he was going by following the familiar voices of the other orphans, Gryphon picked up a plate and felt his way along the rails until he got to the bar. Gryphon had hoped to not attract too much attention to himself, but he stood out in a crowd, and his reputation carried itself around the island. Obviously, Gryphon could not see anyone, but he could definately feel all their eyes on him. "I'm glad I'm blind, I don't have to look at them all staring at me," Gryphon thought, but he only fooled himself, as he desparately wanted to talk to someone, "Why am I so shy?" he asked himself. Getting to the bar, he could hear a diamond-cut glass being set down and a drink of some sort being poured in. Immediatly after hearing this, Gryphon could feel his arm brush up against someone else's. The touch of the person's skin was exceedingly cold, like ice. This could be because Gryphon could not remember the last time he felt another person's touch, but nevertheless it frightened Gryphon and he let out a gasp inaudible to everyone but the person standing next to him and he dropped his plate, which shattered upon contact with the wooden floor. "S-sorry," Gryphon managed to choke out before kneeling down and feeling for the pieces of the plate, being careful not to cut himself.
( OOC: obviously the person next to him is Ice )

 

Ice calmly turned around to see the somewhat small character bend over and collect small pieces of (OOC: What would that be on an island?)

Unmoved by the circumstances, without a word he crouched down and picked up about half the plate, give or take, he noticed the shaul type band around this boys eyes. Immeaditley he clicked as to why he had this wrapped around his head and began to feel awkward. Ice wasn't one to make conversation, but he couldn't help but feel sorry.

"Tis alright." He spoke slowly, just incase there was any other problems that he wasn't aware of, "If you'd like you could come and sit with us?" He extended a hand as he stood up.

 

Gathering what he thought was the last of the plate, Gryphon was taken aback by the person's offer, not sure what to say. "Um.....I.....uh....okay......" Gryphon finally managed to say, taking the young man's hand. The hand felt colder than his arm, but Gryphon tried his best not to jump. Thinking for a minute as the person led him somewhere he asked, "Y-you're Ice, aren't you?"

 

Sora glanced over at Ice.

"Maybe, but face it, he needs energy and out of the stuffy hut, that's one thing for sure." Sora whispered back walking to breakfast.

Sora walked in and began scooping out a bit of the fruit salad with strawberries, bananas, blue berries, and more kinds of fuit. She got some flatbread(not sure if there would be pancakes or not, so making do) and bacon. She watched Ice go towards the wine. she wasn't into that sort of thing, she'd prefer the fresh fruit juice, today she was going to have coconut milk. She walked over to the table and picked up a coconut and cut the top off of it revealing a whole to the center where a fresh coconut milk resided. She started walking towards a table when she heard a loud crash and turned around seeing a small boy and Ice. The small boy had blindfolds over his eyes.

Sora has heard a strange kid who wore blindfolds, but she never truly believed anyone was strange, just people have a reason to be something on some reason and she wouldn't believe other's unless she saw it for herself. She set her stuff down at the table and quickly ran over to them.

"Hey, it looks like you two could use some help." Sora said kneeling down and helping to pick up all the glass.

 

Upon hearing the voice, Gryphon jumped a little, "Oh.....thank you," he said, "Y-your friend invited me to you table.....Is....Is that okay?" Gryphon asked, his arm brushing up against the girl's. Gryphon did not feel the touch of a person's skin often, but when he did, he would know who it was with a small touch, much like how a dog remembers people by smell. Gryphon recognized the touch of the person as Sora. She had run past him some time ago and brushed up against him, and that's how he knew. Of course, he did not know her name, but another orphan told him that her name was Sora, and that she was the most beautiful person on the island. Upon remembering this, Gryphon could feel himself blush uncontrollably, "You're....You're Sora right?" he turned to Ice, "And you're Ice.....right?" asking again to make sure he had gotten it right.

 

"Yeah, that's right."

Ice nudged Sora to take Gryphon to the table, while he went back to collect a plate and some cherries. Along with a flat bread and a few segments of paupo fruit and returned to the table, sipping some wine and happily munching down a couple of cherries.

He turned to Ao, "Not the best of moods today is he?" He thought to himself. He turned back to Gryphon,"And you?" he paused,"Your name?"
