While I was away on vacation visiting family, I saw an interesting news story. Now, you may not be aware of this since FOX is the only news network that was showing this story (Or something like that).

Basically, back in '08 there were members of the new Black Panther group intimidating people from voting. But it gets worse. Now, the Department of Justice has decided to not continue the case against the Black Panthers. And supposedly, the head of the DoJ has ordered for employees to not pursue cases against black people.

    Your oppinion?

If this is true, and members of this organization used scare tactics - or any other sort of tactics - to stop people from voting, there is no reason whatsoever for the DoJ to halt an investigation. Race - if that is what is stopping the DoJ from launching/continuing with this investigation - is not a card you can pull and hide behind when it suits you. Tactics that hinder the election process are an obstruction, and a crime. Meaning the DoJ should be looking into this. There certainly wouldn't be anything stopping them if a group like the KKK did this.

I really hope I'm missing information here, and this is not, in fact, a matter of race or saving face. The point of justice is to make sure laws are upheld to the highest degree, and the people in the DoJ know this - or I hope to god they do. If not, we are seriously screwed, no? If there is any sort of foul play that happened during the elections, it should be looked into. No matter what organization, race, or public appearance. They're job is to make sure the laws run right on track, not to look like the good guys but be the good guys.

Even though my views of justice means it can be twisted to circumstances, my views of those who maintain the laws is straight. They are supposed to be the types who are anal about the laws and their interpretations - otherwise there are no laws. Just guidelines.

This source seems to think Fox is overexaggerating the issue. Which wouldn't surprise me.

Haresuno said it better than I could. If voter intimidation is occuring, it should be investigated, regardless of who is doing it. Though I'm pretty doubtful any such intimidation actually occured.

While it is a possibility, I don't think it is being overexaggerated. The story all started with some guy working in the DoJ who came forward and said about how the DoJ just suddenly dropped this case.

The reason I don't think it is overexaggerrated is because all Fox did was show some videos, interview the president of the New Black Panther Party, and ask why would the DoJ drop this case.

Not to blame people specifically, but some of those people who believe that Fox is fueling some racist fear thingy clearly hasn't watched it at all. And people just shrug it off because it is right-winged. And that makes absolutely no sense to me. No sense, logically at least.

I would guess that something happened- that there was a man or two standing in front of the poll with a club (I think that's what was said happened). But surely if average joes were actually complaining that they were being accosted and intimidated, and sounded legitimate, the incident wouldn't have been dismissed. Or so I would prefer to believe.

I don't know if there's really much that could be done to the organization as a whole. Can an entire organization be held responsible for the actions of one or two? These could just be crazies acting on their own (which I would guess is what the New Black Panthers are claiming).

I'm not gonna claim I know much at all about this case. This is mostly just me rambling here. If there is evidence that people were tampering with a voting, then by all means those men should be punished. If they were not, my guess would be that the DoJ didn't think there was enough evidence to ensure convictions and that pursuing the case would just end up wasting resources. Or hell, maybe the DoJ just doesn't care about white people's rights to vote. I suppose it's possible.

This, if someone actually said it, is complete bullshit. Race should not matter one bit when deciding when to pursue cases and when not to. But I have trouble believing someone in charge would say something so likely to piss people off and create drama. If someone did, I'd bet he or she is now out of a job.

My two cents, for what they're worth. >_<

    edit:
My skepticism makes me wonder why this guy just decided to come forward and tell the story. I doubt it was because of honest outrage over such an injustice. Though again, I suppose anything's possible.
