I plan to see it too!!! just not this weekend, not for a couple weeks actually, I always wait for popular movies to die down a bit before I go see them, that way I can guarantee that there won't be any crowds at the theater

I'm going to see it on Friday next week. I'm really excited, I love Alice in Wonderland and Johnny Depp being in it makes me even more excited because he is one of my favorite actors along with Helena Bonham Carter. ^_^

I just saw it, and I'm not going to spoil it. But the Mad Hatter is, indeed, bloody mad.

The previews bug me. Mainly because they advertise Jonny Depp more than any other character. I don't know the name of the actress that plays Alice.

And from the previews, it doesn't quite seem like Alice in Wonderland either. It looks more like the second book the guy wrote, Through the Looking-Glass.

Most of the stuff from the original Alice movie was attributed to the second book anyways. The previews are annoying, but ignore them. Depp gets less screen time than you think.

Saw the midnight showing and loved it! Without a doubt one my favorite movies now! Since this doesnt really spoil anything, yes,it is basically Through the Looking Glass.Something different for once, you know? I have a Mad Hatter poster too know, though I like March hare more. That guy was funny as hell! But really,it was a good movie,I suggest seeing it in movie theaters atleast once.

    It was disgusting.

When I heard Tim Burton was bringing out his own version of Alice in Wonderland(my favorite children book), i almost pissed myself with excitement.

Then the cast, Helena, Anne and Johnny, my heart melted a bit and the anticipation set in.. Then i read the plot, and died a little inside. If i where Lewis Carroll i would want to come back to life just to kill myself again(i epic phail).

When i saw the movie i was more disappointed then i've ever been(film wise, since The Vampires Apprentice).

The Characters lack any depth. The colours and 3D are bland. The plot/story was disgusting. The Mad Hatter is a love interest. The constant sexual innuendos. Tho Helena Bonham Carter is beautiful. Its mainstream, not Tim Burton.

    Tim, i am dissapoint.

I found this a little bit creepy at times, but it wasn't like love was the focus of the movie.

I just got back from seeing it, and I thought it was pretty good. I will say that it has been years since I read Carroll, and I don't think I ever actually finished Through the Looking Glass, since it was a loan, so I wasn't fixated on mistakes like I usually am in adaptations.

I loved Alice's wardrobe. Her dresses were beautiful. And I thought the actress playing her did a pretty good job, though she seemed a little bland at times.

Johnny Depp as the Hatter wasn't as prominent as I thought he'd be, based on the promotions of the film, which made me glad, since the focus should be on Alice, but I thought he did a nice job with his role as well. This is a stupid thing to comment on, but I found his eyes really distracting. >_< But a plus- he wasn't creepy and annoying like his character in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Everyone else did fine, too, though I thought Anne Hathaway overacted a little. And I thought the locations were beautiful.

I will agree with Answer Man that the plot was a little boring. I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't get into why I thought so right now.

All in all, I didn't feel like I wasted my money or time going to see it (and I had over a half hour drive to the theater, too), but it wasn't nearly as fun as Sherlock Holmes was when I saw that a few weeks ago, and while I'd go back to the theater to see that again, I wouldn't return to see Alice.

edit: Forgot to mention that I saw this in 2D (the 3D makes me feel sick after a while). Of course, that won't fix a boring story, but perhaps seeing it in 3D would make you feel more involved in the movie, or make the backgrounds stand out more.

I think the problem with the movie was that it was just really overhyped. When I heard Tim Burton and Alice In Wonderland, I expected something really epic, and the trailers and images I saw before the release just built on that. I don't think what I got in the end was bad, exactly, I just wanted more out of the movie. I think that if you go into the movie just hoping for a good time, you won't be disappointed. But if you're expecting something that will blow you away with its awesomeness, you're not going to find it with Alice. Just my opinion.

    Her name is Mia Wasikowska.

I really am not a Tim Burton fan. I mean, I like The Nightmare Before Christmas (even though he technically didn't direct that), but I feel he's extremely over-hyped and can be a sort of one-trick pony, especially with his constant recycling of the same actors. It makes all of his films feel astoundingly similar, and it's just a sort of "meh, different plot, (slightly) different characters, but same movie".

Moving on, I really adore Lewis Carroll's original books. The poetry and the complete confusion you feel throughout them are so appealing to people of every age. And I respect the Disney animated movie; even though it was a sort of 'dumbed-down' version for children, I liked it. (I saw the other movies such a long time ago, so I can't really confidently comment on them)

So, that being said, when the movie was announced I had very, very low expectations. And then I learned that Johnny Depp was being cast as the Mad Hatter. I figured "okay, it's Tim Burton. Johnny Depp should have been a given." And then I heard that Alice would not be a child. And that the Mad Hatter would be love interest. (subtle or not)

Compiling all of that with the cult following of Tim Burton's films, I was sickened with the movie months before the first trailer was even put out.

So I'm pretty reluctant to go see this movie, and I keep getting mixed opinions. Some people have said that it was just another "You've seen one Tim Burton movie, you don't need to see this one," while others have said it was wonderful. One thing that really irritated me was that my friend said the plot was confusing (as it should be!), but that they explained everything at the end. I didn't like that. After all, why is a raven like a writing desk?

I do think I'll end up seeing this sooner or later. I hope to be proven wrong in all of my pre-indispositions, but... yeah.

That's just my two cents, though. :]

I don't remember the plot being confusing. It's really a straightforward "Alice has to save Wonderland" story. It reminded me of a Narnia movie in some ways.

Tim Burton can be an excellent director. Big Fish is one of my favourite films and it is also very unique to his other films. It is great from a filmmaker's perspective aswell. I think the reason why he is a one trip pony at times is because that is what Hollywood pressures him to do.

Oh alright. Like I said, this was gathered from the tidbits I've gotten from friends who went to see it.
