  1. How would it offend more people?

By having spray-tanned, it's essentially rubbing it in the faces of actors of another ethnicity.

  3. Yeah, notice how no one says that about other movies.

I think the reason there are so many people pissed about the casting (and they are, it's kinda scary) is because the show has very obvious asian influences. To cast all whites in the lead roles is a bit of a slap in the face to asian actors who could have played the roles. Even people a part of the show are distancing themselves from the casting choices of the movie. I've heard people talking about boycotting it, too, though I don't think that'll happen in a large enough scale to prove the point.

And to cast whites in the roles, then make them up to look asian would be an even larger slap in the face. If you wanted an asian look, why not cast asian actors? Unless you were prejudiced? Even now, with Dev Patel as Zuko, there's a sort of subconscious good guys=white, bad guys=minorities taint to the casting.

I don't really care that much what the actors' ethnicities are, I would just prefer that some of them (Rathbone and Patel, for starters) resemble their characters more.

Duh. No one said that it is an anime.

What I said was that it had strong Asian influences. It uses Chinese martial arts and draws very heavily on East Asian cultures in other areas. Therefore, it makes sense to cast Asian (or Native American, in the case of the water tribesmen) actors and actresses in the roles. But the studio chose not to do so.

Berzerk button: Go and tell some serious anime-person that Avatar is an anime.

    Very much so.

Earthbending is based off a martial arts style that uses the Chinese Zodiac.
Firebending is based off a martial arts style that is more offensive than defensive (I think my cousin knows that style).
And I don't know about Waterbending and Airbending.

And lots of the show is clearly based off of Asian things. Pi-Show (sp?), the music, the outfits, etc.

The types are Ba Gua for Airbending, Hung Gar for Earthbending, Northern Shaolin for Firebending, and Tai Chi for Waterbending. And then there's Toph, who uses the Chu Gar Southern Praying Mantis style to compensate for her blindness.

And all five are forms of Chinese martial arts.

But really, I don't see how anyone, even someone noobish about Asian culture, could look at an episode of Avatar and not see the influences. Which makes the casting for the live action seem even more stupid.

Lol. I'm glad that it is American made, because a lot of American animation, in my opinion, is just crappy to look at and the stories are stupid. And Avatar is different.

I think the movie looks good, but my question is why did they end the series if they were going to make a movie like 2 yearts later. I mean, I think lots of people thought the series had just faded into the shows that are soon forgoten, like I did, but now 2 years later they are making of a movie of it.

^Well, they've been working on the movie for some time, so it's not like the show completely vanished for almost two years and someone randomly decided to make a movie based on it yesterday.

Aang's story was basically over. We saw him master (or come close to it) the four elements, Sozin's comet came, and Aang saved the world. What would be left to tell in a fourth season?

they could tie up some of those loose ends and cliff hangers that they left throughout the seasons, but I doubt that'd be enough to make up an entire 4th season

Idk about that movie... It doesnt look like its going to give the cartoon any justice... it might end up as bad as that dragon ball movie (which we all know FAILED)

In my opinion, movie adaptations rarely do any justice to the source material. I just hope the movie is still enjoyable and doesn't ruin the cartoon too badly.

Unless the movie isn't strictly a part of the main plot, like many (And yes, I am making the relation) anime movies. Naruto, land in snow. Bleach, Memories of Nobody*. Etc.

*Those are the only ones I've seen, other than Pokemon movies. TT_TT
