Alrighty then. I decided on a debate that was a much less heavy topic than most of the fo-shizzle here. Point is, do you think that Eragon was a complete ripoff of Star Wars or not?

    GrandShadow I accept your challange.

    no, they're very different.

the Inheritance cycle is my favorite book series and Star Wars is my favorite movie series so i know them in and out. i don't get how you could compare them.
the only similarity i find is that one day some teen finds out he must save the world.

Eragons has dragons while Star Wars has technology. Eragons is medieval while Star Wars is in the future. What's there to debate as to how Eragons is a ripoff?

Read TV Tropes. Eragon is basically a medieval version of Star Wars. The main character can be seen somewhat similar to Luke, etc.

other than what i said, i don't see how.

??? I saw the movie, Eragon and I only read he first book. So what if the heroes acts similar. It doesn't mean that Eragon is a ripoff. There are other heroes who came to realize that they must save the world like them two.

Eragon & Luke: Finds out his father was the assistant to the bad head honcho, gets his father's weapon and uses it (Eventually lost), Teacher was mentor to his father, becomes exceptionally talented in the force/magic, rescues damsel in distress early on, falls in love early on with the damsel in distress (Sorta), Uncle's family is massacred at the farm, and that's all I can remember at the moment.

EDIT: Taken directly from the TVtropes page.

The novels feature the tale of a farmboy who discovers a Plot Coupon sent to a wise old mentor by a captured princess, and has his uncle who raised him killed by the impenetrably cowled servants of the Evil Empire. The two set off for revenge. The mentor is a former knight, who teaches the farmboy how to use his mystical powers in about five days (not that his magic is much use until he becomes stronger) and gives him a magical sword that belonged to his father before buying the farm. Luckily, the farmboy meets up with a Badass Anti Hero, rescues the princess, who is also a major player in the Rebel army, and joins the rebellion, becoming a key member before going to train with a half-mad old hermit in the forest. After this, he discovers that his father was the Empire's right-hand man and he's been betrayed by his own family...

Replace magic with the force, and magical sword with lightsaber, and you have Star Wars.

His brother is Han Solo! (Sorta - fits under Anti-hero and all that jazz)

It has a similar story to Star Wars but it's got a more Lord of the Rings way it was written. It's a good series and Christopher Paolini did use a lot of originality for the most part but you cant help but see the similarities.

    Lord of the Rings:
1.) The Lethrblaka. They are basically the Ringwraiths "fell beasts."
2.) Names. Eragon and Arya for one. Aragorn and Arwen ringing any bells? Not to mention that their story seems to have been snatched from the original King and Elf.
3.) Languages. They are similar in the stories.
4.) Eragon's sword in the third book. It bursts into flames *just like Anduril.*
    5) The Urgals. Very similar to Orcs.

    Star Wars:
    Moogle already covered it.

Similarity wise, it is probably more like LotR. But storyline wise, it is much like a mideval version of Star Wars.

Oh I'm not doubting it. If you combine Lord of the Rings and Star Wars you would see a story very similar if not exactly like Eragon.

Sadly, Star Wars is in outer space and it takes place on many different planets...

Still, the plots are all the same for Star wars and Eragon, and LOTR, i mean big journey with team, you find more along the way, your the key hope for everybody, alot of things from Star wars and LOTR are in Eragon, i think the author just ripped them off and put his own two cents in.

anyway, Star Wars > Eragon. Aint seen Eragon, don't want to. Star wars has a cult following, Eragon has not.

How are you going to debate if you don't read what the people above you post?

And so what? That doesn't change the fact that the plots seem very similar.
