kay now I'm as hardcore a fan of Avatar as the next guy, so I can spend hours nitpicking at all the hundreds of errors that are gonna be wrong with this movie, but I'm gonna give it some type of chance since the trailer did look pretty epic, but it'll never be as great as it would have been if they had kept 100% true to the cartoon. smh

I was a little disappointed about the arrow. But it doesn't matter. To me this movie will be EPIC! EPIC! EPIC! just like James Cameron movie "Avatar". Katara looks like the girl from The Chronicles of Narnia. Lucy. A little. I didn't like how Sokka looked at all and Zukos scar isn't noticeable. But I still think this movie will be epic.

I am a huge Avatar fangirl. But I've never expected much from the movie, mainly because movie adaptations of series (whether TV or literature) that I love almost always disappoint me. And I have not been happy with the casting choices.

This trailer actually looks not bad, though. The fighting looks good- I was curious to see how bending would translate to live action when I first heard of the movie. Now I wanna see some kickass scenes of Aang in the avatar state.

Katara actually doesn't look as horrible as I thought she would. She has hair loopies, which pleases me to no end, even if they don't look exactly the same, and I think the actress looks similar to Katara, if you ignore skin tone.

I want to punch Jackson Rathbone for agreeing to the Sokka role, though. He looks all wrong, and I keep imagining him with the retarded facial expressions he wore for the entirety of his scenes in Twilight, pretending to be the hilariously sarcastic Sokka.

I also dislike Dev Patel as Zuko. He looks wrong, too, though maybe his acting will be so good that I'll be able to overlook that. And was that supposed to be Uncle Iroh standing next to Zuko, the guy who said something like "Your destinies are tied"?

Hmph. One of the things I loved about Iroh was that looking at him, you wouldn't expect he'd be such a badass fighter. Iroh was this jolly, fat guy who embarrassed Zuko and just seemed to really enjoy life. This actor doesn't have that same loveable sort of feel, at least based on appearances. I dunno.

But, a plus, it looked like the Blue Spirit was there for a second at the beginning of the trailer (around 0:46). That episode is my favorite of season 1, so yay!

RE: Update link posted by Keyblade Master Roxas-

Uh oh, I'm not liking the idea of a more "grounded" Sokka. Sokka is supposed to be slap-sticky, sarcastic, goofy at times. I don't want to see him as Mr. Serious. Though, I expect Rathbone to screw him up anyway, so I suppose making him more serious couldn't hurt any worse.

And good that Appa and Momo will be in the movie. Though seriously, how could they cut Appa? Wish someone could come up with some pics.

I remember first seeing a preview months ago. Forget which movie I was watching.

And from the commercial I saw during the Superbowl, it almost looked like it was the entire series (Or at least from the first episode on to another part).

Iroh's the best character in the entire series. He's the best firebender, managed to be the first person to redirect lightning, kept the dragons alive, is part of the awesome old guy group (I think that Sokka is technically part of that group too), and he's so much wiser than he looks.

Yep, Iroh is awesome. All of the members of the Order of the White Lotus kick ass.

I read a review from a private screening of the movie (a very rough cut) written by someone who was not familiar with the series, and this person said Iroh was the best thing about the movie. So here's hoping that despite the actor not looking at all like Iroh, he won't disappoint the fans.

Anyways, I wonder what the movie will end up leaving out. Hopefully, since it is only covering the first season, they'll be able to fit all of the good (and important) stuff in.

I'm looking forward to the movie but to me, it didn't seem cartoon enough...it seemed too much like Lord of the Rings.

I hate the person who plays Sokka as well. First of all, he's from Twilight. Second, he's from Twilight and thirdly, he's from Twilight. Haha, I'm just kidding but seriously the first reason is true, lol. I really don't like Sokka's appearance though. They could have picked a better person for the role.

i was a fan of avatar, until the end of the third book

because i left my adoptive town of sault ste-marie for 5 years to return to a controling dad

i am disapointed with aang's tatoos, but other than that, its, basicaly, as close to the cartoon as possible

They are only going to show the epic scenes in the trailer, though. I'm hoping some of the light-heartedness and humor from the show still shine through in the movie.

Somehow, I've ended up excited about this movie now.

I know you're kidding, but I agree with you. Though, it's not so much the fact that he was in Twilight (everyone needs a paycheck) but just the idiotic way he looked throughout all of his scenes. He ruined Jasper without even having speaking lines (or very many, anyway), and Jasper was one of the better characters of that series.

I really like all of the Avatar characters, but Sokka is one of my favorites. He's gonna be butchered, I know it. I could already see some of the "Jasper" look during the clip in the trailer when Sokka and Katara are holding each other and crying as their dad sails away to fight in the war.

Just curious, what didn't you like about Book 3? The only thing that irritated me was the deus ex machina of "energy bending" from the finale.

Lol Sora I totally agree with you. D:
To me the boy that's playing Aang is perfect! Though he looks to serious. But the other characters I dislike a lot. Especially Iroh. He's suppose to be funny and fat and awesome. But in the movie he looks like Zukos father with the beard and all that. Gosh D:

    Link

A new interview with Jackson Rathbone, which talks a little about Airbender. He doesn't even know how to pronounce Sokka's name properly. I just died a little.

Could they have chosen anyone worse for this part?

Alright, after seeing that trailer, I have just one main thing to say.

    WHAT THE

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

    And now to my points.

    1. Sokka and Katara aren't white. . . they're supposed to be Eskimo.
    2. I feel that Aang's tatoos make more sense, but still should be a little less painstakingly detailed.
    3. They got Iroh wrong as well. I mean, they got his hair wrong, and that's a major thing. (See end of Book 1)
    4. Zuko looks more or less as angsty as I thought he should be, but they should have made his burn a little more noticeable. I mean, I could hardly catch it.
    5. Katara looks pretty whiney - too much, in fact.
    6. Sokka. . . Not funny? But that's a major part of his character! Or at least, him TRYING to be funny.

And I agree. The idiot who plays Sokka is the wrong idiot.

I agree. People see Zuko out (particularly in Book 2, when he's wandering as an Earth Kingdomer) and pity him, thinking he'd been tortured by the Fire Nation (which is true enough). The scar, as I've seen it in the trailers and promo pics, really doesn't stand out that much, though maybe that's partly the fault of poor lighting. I'm gonna guess that the people responsible didn't want to gross out the audience by covering as large an area on Zuko's face as the show does.

Amen. This worries me a lot. Sokka is generally the comedic relief, often unintentionally. Without him, I think the series would have been too dark and heavy. To take away his sarcasm and the drama he inflicts on himself is to butcher his entire character.

XD How is it that we notice this, and not one of the casting directors or anyone else involved in the film could see it? They should've cast Dev Patel as Sokka and picked someone who actually resembled the character to play Zuko.

And speaking of Zuko's casting, I'm just grateful that Jesse McCartney backed out of the movie. Who would ever think he made a good Zuko? >_<

One good thing I just noticed- Dee Bradley Baker is listed as the voice of Appa and Momo on IMDb, just as he is in the cartoon. And the interview I linked above has Rathbone talking about using a boomerang. You can't have Sokka without his boomerang.

  16. Aang looks too kiddy by the looks of the actor and going off of Moogle's opinion, why the hell are they white

  17. Kitty

Kitty I Survived The BG Massacre Staff Member Administrator

Really? I thought Aang was the best cast of them all. I'm not sure how old Noah Ringer actually is, but if you look at Aang in comparison with Sokka and Katara on the show, he looks quite a bit younger than them. And the character is only 12, and Aang, especially Book 1 Aang, acted like a young 12- he was often goofy.

Because Hollywood hates asians/minorities? The main cast would have been completely white if Jesse McCartney hadn't backed out. Dev Patel was only added, in my opinion, because there's been a huge backlash towards the studio over the seemingly racist casting.

  18. I still think they need to at least give them a tan make-up job or something.

now I have a theory about Zuko's scar being barely noticeable. I think firstly that they are trying to make it appealing to their demographic. It is not disgusting to look at in the cartoon because well...it's a cartoon. In a real life movie, it would "scare" kids.
