I just finished Wrath of a Mad God and Small Favor recently.

Overall, rather pleased with the Darkwar. The Serpentwar was meh at best, especially since it moved many of my favorite characters (like Arutha and Pug) out of the main picture (or dead, in Arutha's case). While I feel Miranda was useless through the trilogy, and Tad n' Zane n' Jommy n' Grandy n' Servan n' Whoever were annoying distractions to the plot (Kaspar is where it's at), the last 150 pages of the third book were pure epic.

Kalkin's blunt admission of the Gods' hands in everything during every book so far, as well as the epic logic of "A God of Breaking the Rules is allowed to break the rules placed on Gods," was sheer genius.

Small Favor was excellent as usual, but it's been a while since I've read a Dresden Files novel (and I'm a huge Butcher fan). Perhaps a bit slow through the first half, the second half was (to me) a rather constant ride of thrills and action. And Ivy. For some reason, I find Ivy book-moe. Maybe its the quiet personality + supreme power + loves cute things. I dunno.

Totally, completely missed Harry's absence of his blasting rod, or even his fire in general. I felt dumb when it was pointed out by Micheal. Hmm... favorite moment is a tossup between Harry and Warden Luccio's romance, Ivy pwning, and the Elder Gruff, who was damn well near overpowered. OHAI IMA JUST LAZER YER FALLEN KTHX. The donut was pretty good though, as was Thomas' reaction to it.

RANDOM: The heck...? 'Donut', the singular, is not in my spellchecker. The plural is, though.

A Touch of Dead by Charlaine Harris. A collection of short stories that would have been helpful to know about while I was reading her Stackhouse series the first time, as they fit into the storyline and are just a little bit important.

  7. Almost done with Ragged Dick.

Just finished: Nanny Returns by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus. Not even close to as good as the first in the series (The Nanny Diaries). Would not recommend.

Am currently (re)reading: The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. A very sad but fascinating read.

  12. I finished reading Ragged Dick. Now I'm reading White Fang for the tenth time.

  13. Goldfish

    Goldfish Cats in the Cradle

Finally finished The Laughing Corpse today (yay, first finished book this year, first book finished for a long time). It left me wanting more, seems as if the protagonist has new powers that she could use. Nice short story, might consider getting all the Anita Blake novels see where it all began and see how it all ends if they all connect to each other (also keeping in mind how many there are =P).

Anyway, with that out of the way, I can finally start Parasite Eve by Hideaki Sena. So far, it's left me jumping onto Google frequently to look up a few Medical terms like "Brain Death", it's quite a new style for me as well since it doesn't follow the protagonist in first person but a third person (which is what I usually read before). I'm slowly getting into it, but I don't think I'll enjoy it a lot. Really only got it for the sake of the game, but now that I have it, I must read it.

  14. The Premature Burial by Edgar Allan Poe.

The White Queen by Philippa Gregory. Like most of her books, this one is probably more "fiction" than "historical", but I enjoy her writing style, and the general time period she writes about.

Nightlight by The Harvard Lampoon, as a die hard Twilight fan, I actually find this book extrememly hilarious! :D

  17. The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calvares County.

I read about 30 pages of Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind, couldn't get interested, and tossed it aside. Might go back to it later.

Now I'm reading The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. (They had it at Walmart for about $5). Not bad, so far, but I've only read a few pages.

  19. I'm just now starting Things Fall Apart.
