Reena stood up with a sigh and brushed herself off briefly, and walked back to her tent. She made one more glance up to the sky, which was almost completely dark and where one small star shown. Reena smiled to herself, thinking that the star was kind of like her hopes, small and seemingly alone. But she knew that there had to be more than just that one star out, she just couldn't see them yet.

Aerie followed Reena to their tent (Seeing as she must stick by her side, after all) and began setting up magical wards around it. No use letting themselves get caught off-guard by an ambush, especially after all the trouble the soldiers do to keep them alive.

"Good-night, miss Reena." The sorceress bid before entering the tent herself and got in her bed.

    Chapter I
    War of Two Nations

Keneth awoke to the sun just peeking over the tree's. With a heavy sigh, he got up and stretched. After a few seconds he remembered the bloody work that would be done this day, and almost cried at the thought. More blood on his hands. It was ugly that this time it would be innocent lives.

He walked up to one of the sentries. "Wake the men." He said to the man. "Yes sir." He grabbed a horn and played a quick marching tune to get everyone up. With some grunts, everyone awoke and started to rose themselves.

Reena came out of her tent, taking a moment to remove the wards that Aerie had put on the night before. She looked around to see others begininning to wake and come out of their tents, yawning and stretching. Before too long the watch would be coming back and they would begin to prepare for the coming battle. Reena sighed with a sad ache squeezing her heart. But after a second she shook her head to clear her thoughts and steeled herself for the upcoming fight.

Will stood at the edge of the camp, staring into the forest. He drew his sword, slowly and gracefully but then it changed to a hatred driven speed blur. He was doing his morning warm ups. With just the one sword he could do about anything, but now the second sword was coming out. He started to twirl them in his hands, all around his body. Finally he stopped, slamming the swords into the dirt.

"I see you haven't lost your touch, Will." Keneth said, stopping at a respectful distance. "I just hope you don't lose out to the terrain." Keneth knew that the men they had today would probably not come back, at least not all of them. "We'll split up into two groups. One will be hanging back to provide reinforcements. You will head the reinforcements and I the main force. We leave in a hour." With that, Keneth left to see to his men.

Will turned, wanting to argue but Keneth was already gone. "He just doesn't want to see a mass of bloodshed... Well I'm sorry but I just can't stand by with the reinforcments." He growled, lifting his swords and slamming them home into the sheaths. He went to start into the woods but he wasn't going to get chewed out for disobeying orders.

"Shumthing wrong, m'lady? Aerie yawned as she came up to her mistress. The mage looked quite frazzled, having only woken up a few minutes before. However, miraculously she was fully armored and ready for battle.

"I know this battle weighs heavily on your mind, but there is nothing we can do about it. The most we can hope for is a concise victory, now."

"Ok everyone. Saddle up." Keneth called. Everyone started getting their things together, while four men opted to stay behind to gaurd the camp. That was fine with Keneth. Now for one of the worst parts of a battle. The speech. "I'm sure you all know why we are here. We are here to make a deciding blow to the Sidhe, and to make them withdraw permanently. This entails us killing civilians. I know, it makes me sick, but orders are orders. I won't pretend that we will make it, but if we stay together we can succeed in maybe crippling their armies. If we can make their army fall back, we can push this fight and give our lords an opening to wage all out war on their capital. So, let's move out. Will will take half of our forces and ride in the back so we can have some reinforcements. The rest with me. Move out." He selected his men, then they began riding to the forest. Will would wait for a hour, or for a horn to sound before he could move.

"Yes. As much as i dislike this war, it is still important to protect our homeland and our people," Reena said to Aerie. Reena watched as the watch came back through the forest, the leader breaking away and jogging up to her. "They have begun to move," he said shortly. Reena noded and turned to position herself to be seen and heard by the other Sidhe warriors. "Warriors!" she called, grabbing their attention. "The humans have begun to advance on us, you all know now that we are facing them as the ride upon their horses, we must use the tactics that i have discused with you earlier and also that your comanders have spoken of to you. This is our home that they are entering, they aren't familiar with the forest as we are, since we were born and raised here, so we know it's secrets. Let us go and fight for our home and our people, we must protect what is ours." Reena ended her brief speech by walking back to her tent and grabbing her light and flexible armor, reinforced with spells of protection, strapping her short sword to her side and grabbing her favorite bow made of dark wood. She paused briefly to run her fingers over the leafy engravings that were carved into the side then put it over her shoulder with her arrows. Once she was prepared, the rest of the warriors were gathered in their groups as planned. "Let's go," she stated simply, taking the lead as they disappeared into the forest.

Keneth rode in with his 30 men, feeling rather uneasy. He knew they were out there, but he didn't know were. Because humans couldn't use magic, he couldn't ask anyone to scry for them. At the same time though, he didn't want to sacrifice a man. "Lieutenant." He said to the man next to him after a moments thought. "Take two men and scout ahead. Make sure you are close enough that we can hear you. The second you come in contact with the enemy, shout and flee. You can not hope to match them out here. Have your men squat in there sadles so you don't have any gaps in your armor. Go."
"As you will sir." The man pointed out a few soldiers and relayed Keneth's instructions. With that, they rode off.
"Lets hope we aren't walking into a massacre." Keneth said quietly.

Will sat on his horse, gripping the reins of the harness tightly. He didn't want to wait but he didn't have much armor on and plus he was leading the reinforcements. He wore a chain mail tunic, a cloth shurt over it, and leather gauntlets, along with his green cloak. He kept his armor light to not reduce from his speed much. "Keep watchful men, they could strike us and let the others walk into an ambush." He barked at the battalion.

Reena perched silently in the boughs of a strong and well foliaged maple tree, looking and listening for the signs of the enemy. Other archers were placed throughout the surrounding trees, ranging in positions from high and low, some were even on the ground behind tree trunks to the sides, bows at the ready. Reena was towards the front of where the group of archers were placed so she could see what they were facing and make orders accordingly.

After a short time her ears picked up the soft sound of hooves troding through the grass of the forest, she moved her head slowly to see riders better. Only two. Reena held onto her bow and notched arrow with her left hand and lifted her right hand waiting for the riders to come deeper into the forest. Once they were a few trees past hers, she shot her arm forward and twisted her hand into a fist, focusing her magic beneath the riders. Roots shot out of the ground with a spray of dirt, making the horses squeal in fear along with their riders. The roots rushed in and wrapped the legs of the horses holding them fast as they tried to escape. The riders fell off and were also soon entwined in the snaring roots, the other mages beginning to help. With a high, sharp whistle she alerted the rest of the warriors that the enemy was here.

The remaining rider twisted his horse around and took off. When he got back with the remaining forces he called out to Keneth saying, "Sir, Sidhe magicians ahead."
"Lances at the ready." Keneth called, pulling his own lance out of it's holster. "On my signal, charge." He waited until he saw a few Sidhe approaching. "NOW!" With that, all twenty seven of them charged the Sidhe, taking them off guard. Ten of the lances found their marks, and the riders immediately switched to swords.

Now that the riders were all within the area, the mages knew what to do. Reena and the rest of the mages called up the complicated roots of the surrounding trees, creating treacherous loops and tangles that the horses got caught and tangled in. Riders began falling and jumping from their captured steeds, the horses that remained uncaptured were stuck stationary. Arrows began to shoot from the trees, striking down the fallen riders. Reena continued to help the mages control the roots to snare the rest of the horses and hold them fast.

Keneth knew that he had little option, but to sound the alarm. His men were falling right and left, but he was still hesitant. Finally, he grabbed his horn and released a mighty blast. He drew his sword, blocking an incoming arrow. He could only hope that Will would be in time.

Will heard the horn and grinned, an animalistic look in his eyes as he drew his sword. "Forward men, we are needed!" He barked, starting his horse forward with a kick of his feet. When he got about ten feet from Keneth he leaped from his horse, drawing hiis sword in midair. "I heard the horn, my friend. How many have fallen?" He asked, slicing at an arrow that flew in front of him.

"A lot. I lost half of my men, and almost all of my horses. They were expecting us, that's for sure." Keneth growled, striking a Sidhe down. Around him, a few of his men fell dead. "Will, this was the dumbest idea the council had, sending us in here. We need archers, not spears." Keneth blocked another arrow, and while even more men started falling. "With your blessing, i'll surrender."

Will sliced an arrow out of the air with his left sword, stabbing a Sidhe to a tree with the other. "Not unless we have to... Keneth, it was a stupid idea but we have never surrendered before." He said, kicking the Sidhe off his sword. He then spun his left sword, shoving it through a Sidhe's head. "But if we do not surrender the insanity will continue... I will succumb to the darkness of the abyss..." He breathed to himself, killing Sidhe left and right with blistering speed.

"Will, they have thirty men left. We have what, six now?" The arrows and spells were relentless. While they did have more than six men, that number wasn't far off. "Forget this. It is sometimes wiser to surrender and live, than to fight and die." With that, Keneth shouted. "All men, stop your attack. Leader of the Sidhe, I Keneth of Relendale, surrender to you. I only ask that you kill no more of us this day, and that you treat my men well. If you let us go, i swear by my sword that we will not attack you again. I see now the strength that the Sidhe holds, and it frightens me more than you know. I await your reply." Around him, his men were dropping their weapons, and dropped behind the dead horses for cover against the arrows. "Put your blade down Will. We never had a chance." Keneth said, throwing his sword to the ground, and picking off arrows with his shield.
