this debate is about what music does to people, how it makes them look at the world or how it affects people, anything about it.

Now my thing is how rap is looked at, why because rap makes most black people look like fools or like they a crazy or killers, or that blacks dont care for there kind or women and just want money and love to sell drugs. so what are you guys thoughts>

Rap reflects on different people in different ways. Some people simply listen to it. Others are influenced by it, in milder ways, like how they dress and their vocabulary, and in not-so mild ways, how they see other people, how they act. It can change people completely. It changes their views on other people and the world. They might think that drugs and thievery is right, and that a certain race is stupid or something, just because a popular rap song said so.

But for the most part, I think people just listen to it because that's the kind of music they like. Rap, pop, rock, punk, electric, heavy metal, hip-hop, indie...all of that.

Music in general can influence you in good ways, too. It can make you think more carefully about things, make you look at people who hurt you once before in a new light, make you look in to things with more perspective.

Say, for example, you're one of those dramatic preteens, and you get in an argument with your mom because she wouldn't let you buy something. Listening to a song that talks about a similar issue with more perspective might get you thinking hard.

Or you just rock out in your room. Either one works.

I listen to all kinds of music but I prefer rap and nu-metal.
I can relate to those songs like Down With The Sickness of Disturbed

When Im angry with someone, it gets me pumped up and want to do something dangerous.
Music affects the way you live and your personality (sometimes).

-___- Do not say most blacks because those who goes into the rapping business is not all of what you just said. It's some & not most. Those who do rap express themselves about what they've been going through. Mary J. Blige with I'm going Down expresses her feelings & emotions. Some blacks actually went into R & B instead.

Yes, I think that music has an effect on people. It can influence how people see themselves, and give them an identity or something to relate to. It can affect people's moods. Music can be used to express your emotions. It's a stress reliever for a lot of people. I think some crazy people even use music to torture others. Does music change the world? I dunno that I'd go that far.

In response to the poll choices, does music make people kill? Absolutely not. People choose to do that themselves. Does it help people with life? I suppose. I'm not really sure what is meant by that. v_v I voted the third option- that music affects everyone differently.

I pick the third anyways. I used to listen to rap but I rarely listen to it. I listen to gospel a lot. That's more comforting & keeps me positive.

There's such a thing called Music therapy... i'm not going to go into much detail with it. If you interested in it perhaps google it. But yes, music does change the world, maybe not every single person in it but majority.

We can look at different sides to your question, does music change the world. It forms cultures and brings people together. Shows celebration within tribes, is a type of language or form of communication. It changes alot of people's world.

As for does it kill? I'll automaticly assume this is about the 'emo' stereotype, although your viewing is different. If it is, 'emo' music depending on how you class music does not make people want to commit suicide. Back to your view of rap music, I feel classing 'black' as the only people who listen to rap or create rap is wrong.

Music does have an impact on people, it could be said that some songs to move people or give people false impressions of certain things. Whilst other music advertise other things such as drinking and late nights.

& I'm a black person myself but I'm not even going to get steamed up because there are some white people who be rapping too. "MY NAME IS!! MY NAME IS! MY NAME! STACY!" Whoever did made that song. Rap shouldn't even be stereotyped to blacks because we can say the same to whites with the country & rock music too. "ANGELS DESERVES TO DIEEE!" It's actually not nice to even include race in this Answerman because that can be considered racism in a way in my opinion. Rap also was able to mix in with gospel. Kirk Franklin with Stomp was a great gospel hybrid music. Rap is not always about drinking & going to the clubs. Rap also was able to make up dances like the Tootsie Roll or the Cupid Shuffle.

i'm not putting black in a cagerogty that they only listen to rap, but i;m saying it makes people think what black people are.

    I KNEW you were black.
    lmfaooooooo. Confirmed.

Also, don't be fucking ignorant. "Most blacks" don't listen to rap/hip hop. Even with the genre itself, its only music. Every genre presents a lifestyle that the industry encourages people to assimilate into. That also goes for rock, indie, emo and pop as well.

I swear this thread was made with me in mind.

Music absolutely changes the world. It is such an influential thing that we have. Conveys emotions and whatnot.

Now to look at the poll.

Music cannot make anyone do anything. Perhaps it could influence one to kill, but in no way does it make someone kill.

Absolutely. If only I could list the amount of bands that have helped me get through rough patches in life.

First off, you should learn how to spell different.

But yes, music does not have the same affect on everyone. Everyone has their own different interpretation on music.

Also, summonerBWM, as Autopsy said above, you are ignorant as fuck. For the exact reasons Autopsy stated.

-___- & the two of you are so dumb for not even reading my first post. I SAID SOME BLACKS LISTEN! I wasn't even ignorant in the first place & I STATED SOME THINGS THAT ARE SIMILAR TO WHAT AUTO SAID IN HER LAST SENTENCE so read my posts before you call someone ignorant!! Anyways, it doesn't matter what kind of music makes a type of race think of another, if it is a negative point of view, it is wrong. I also stated R & B thank you. Jazz & Blues I listen to it myself but the problem is that some people thinks that this kind of music is only for that kind of race when there are other people who be singing that same kind of music. In school, at home, with friends, beatboxing, whatever. Music just spins the world no matter what. Music makes people comes up with their own dances, rhythm & sounds.

what about the boy who shot up hsi school like 2 years ago? they said and he said the songs he listened to where saying things about killing and death, i mean he did do what the song said.

Screw that. That's just an idiot, worried now that he got caught, trying to place the blame on anyone (or anything) else except where it belongs (with himself). The music (or lyrics, meh) didn't make him do anything. And if he's so stupid that he thinks it's okay to do anything a song suggests, I hope he stays locked up for good.

I agree with that, but with that alot of ppl blame some people for there songs and how it "influcne" all of us kids, and how metal bands or rapper should stop.

  16. Flash Delirium

    Flash Delirium Indie Rokkers

But the song didn't make him do it. Something in the song may have psychologically influenced the boy to hoot up his school.

What about rap, some guys act like there the ppl in rap videos, they sag, they act all hard or try and be a pimp, or act like they have lots of money or become rappers. So you cant say music cant make ppl do things.

  18. Kitty

Kitty I Survived The BG Massacre Staff Member Administrator

That's ignorant (what you said, not you yourself). If parents taught their kids right from wrong, they wouldn't have to worry about the music influencing them to do bad things.

The music might influence the guys to dress or act in a certain way, but it doesn't make them do so. Those kids still chose to behave and appear like the people they see in those videos. Music is an inspiration, but it doesn't force people to change their behavior. People need to take some responsibility for their own actions.

has anybody heard about the stop the violence movement, it was back in the day where everybody blamed rap for ppl getting shot, or robbed and black on black crime. cuz everybody wanted rapper to go or thought it was making young kids where gold chains or not go to school.
