I lose SO much respect for guys when they don't offer their seat to someone who's elderly or disabled. It makes me want to smack them with my bag, in hoping that they fall over.

XD I've said that men was called toys in my post Hope. Mancandy, I did not know that's a name used for terrible, mean guys. It's impossible for anyone to even get robbed on the first date unless you're unlucky. Girlfriend gets their purse stolen, boyfriend chase after the thief, probability that the thief actually have a gun.

Edit: -______- I know guys who do that Autopsy. Want me to give you their names so you can go & smack them too?

Chivalry became common courtesy when males and females earned equal rights (I use this term losely).

It all depends on the upbringing these days, but you cant really complain at men for doing something when women can do it as well and vice-versa.

I'm kinda confused as to what this has to do with the concept of chivalry. And also confused why women are the ones who want to be nasty and force their men into doing terrible things. Surely men can be just as nasty?

I think a lot of those names are not given to women who are "terrible" (whatever the hell that means), but to women that don't fit the conventional idea of woman. I think a lot of the women who are labeled bitches are strong, ambitious women who don't let men (or life, really) boss them around. But this has more to do with gender equality than chivalry.

How is that impossible? You never know what could happen.

A lot of what we call chivalry these days is just general good manners. Men and women could both benefit from using them more often.

    lol

That's my opinion Toph. XD I know one good movie that shows a man who don't use chivalry to women. Notorious.

Some of these values and behaviors (holding a door open for another or pulling out a chair for another to sit) are just generally nice things to do.

I used the door and chair as examples. If you're before someone getting to the door, open it and hold it open at least for the small group or person behind you. It's nice, isn't it? Regardless if you're female or not. The same goes for the chair. If the guy is first, he can pull out a chair for the woman. If the woman is first, she can do it for the guy. How should it matter?

It is due to practice and cultural values that chivalry has emerged. It isn't necessarily bad, it would probably just be nicer if both men and woman and other would do it for each other, rather than just men doing it for women. At least that makes sense to me.

Sex me. You are brilliant. lol

i agree to that times ten, men like that and movies like that can make guys think that they dont have to show chivalry to women.

Summoner, if some jerk stole MY purse (I don't have one, I'm a pockets kind of girl), I would run after them and swear.

Why would women find chivalry as a bad thing. A man does nice things like hold the door open for his a lady or stuff like that to be a gentlemen. It's a polite thing to do, I know I do it for a woman whenever i'm out. Men are supposed to respect women and opening doors and stuff for them is the way we show that repsect.

I was raised to be a gentleman. I was always taught to hold doors open for women, let them go first, not as special treatment or anything but to show that I am a good person and that I am trying to be nice to someone.

I know women around where I live like for men to do stuff like that and if we don't the women get mad at us. I would feel bad if I didn't do stuff like that for women.

true but some women might think your thinking there weak or like they need someone to do it for them like a baby.

You're basing your opinions on a movie which you have seen?

Anyway, I would always do things like that for a girl, and always do give up a seat for the elderly.

And just to give a better example than throwing your coat onto a puddle, how about giving it up if they happened to be cold?

Now that is just stupid. I know I and I assume most guys hold doors open for ladies and other stuff so they wont be offended. It's just being a gentleman.

I follow the law of chivalry pretty well, except for if it's my sister. Lolz.

I have helped old people carry things, gone and fetched forgotten items, spent several minutes holding a door open for people to go through, and always strived to be polite. I have never once been accosted for any of these actions. In fact, one old lady said i was "Raised well." I dunno who would have a problem with it, and if someone does then i say now that no offense is meant. Just being very polite.
Btw, chivalry can't be bad because my gf has always wanted a guy who follows that law. Must be good for me at least. =P

Some people are just like that though, the one sthat won't acept any gifts because they think that makes them charity. It doesn't happen very often, but then again neither does a solar eclipse, it's still important though.
