Why did Square decide to release c.o.m on the gameboy advance platform before the PS2? It didn't really make sense to me. Maybe Square wanted to experiment with other platforms, I don't know.

Nomura wanted everyone to play, especially children so he suggested that CoM to go on a GBA. Or so I heard.
It was to publicise so that more people would get into Kingdom Hearts.

  5. ive got also the Advance version, but i guess its more fun on the PS2

Well considering the time gap between the PS2 version and GBA version (In english) I doubt it was as thought out as that. I heard somewhere that Nintendo approached Sqaure with the possibility, but Nomura didn't think they could get KH gameplay onto a handheld system, but decided to try because there was alot of potential to draw in new (Young) audiences, since the GBA ownership ratio of young children to others was much larger than on the PS2.
Don't quote me on that but I think it's right.

This is what I've heard also. I didn't think there was really a downside to the GBA, other then the lack of VA.

i think it might've been so there was a handheld kh title. I thought it was nice to have it portable.

They made it to get some attentions from Nintendo gamers.
If they liked the game, they will force to buy a PS2 and play KH again.

They did it to make more money and to spread the franchise over a few different systems (that's probably the next few KH games are going to be for the DS and PSP) They also did that with Final Fantasy for probably the same reason

i'm getting it on PS2. i mean, a gameboy version of a kingdom hearts game doesn't sound all too entertaining.

  12. Maybe im a lil late, But I think they did it to the Gameboy for trying out, if it could get more money

Meh, asking that question is just like asking why are the new ones on ds,psp and mobile, it looks like by using multiple platforms, to get all the action players will have to buy all the systems plus games, and i think those systems are fairly cool, the only thing taht would annoy me is if they released the exact same game but on two platforms.

Yeah, I mean, CoM was perfectly fine on the Gameboy - and they were probably unsure of how they'd get the card mechanism to work anywhere else.

I prefer the GBA version to the PS2 version. Also, I think Square was on a Nintendo-craze at that time.

Well I actually Goggled why and on Wikipedia it says that kids really wanted to see KH on Gameboy so they started developing it for it.

Here is an excerpt of the article on Wikipedia: "Nomura was hesitant about releasing a Kingdom Hearts title on the Game Boy Advance, feeling that the 3D graphics of the original game would not translate well into 2D. Nomura changed his position after hearing that children wanted to play Kingdom Hearts on the GBA. After exploring ideas for the gameplay, he felt that a 2D Kingdom Hearts game would be possible, and that it could still feel like and play like what gamers were used to in the original.Meanwhile, Nomura wanted to give the game a "lighter tone" than the PlayStation 2 games."

Whats funny is that the GBA game seemed to have a darker story then KH and KH2.But I digress, doing what the fans want is good buisness for the gaming industry,as evident by this.Plus there were not any other portable systems at the time that could challenge Nintendo,so if they were going to go portable, they had to go Nintendo. Now they can branch out.

  20. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories in my opinion is the best out of the entire saga. I know most people don't like it because it was released on GBA, but CoM offered some really great sprite animation, unique card battle system, and superb dialogue. Someone mentioned it was darker than it's predecessor and Kingdom Hearts 2, and quite frankly they're right. CoM displayed torturous interaction between character, for example the way Larxene slapped Namine around, the way Riku replica eliminates Zexion and all you here is his death cry, Vexen begging for his life, and so on. It's all still my opinion, but I strongly think the GBA offered something that Re:CoM couldn't. That could just be first impressions though. :/
